As a type 2 diabetic for over 20 years my most profound realization about the medical profession is their total lack of understanding of nutrition. I proved this to a point that my doctor quit her practice to go back to school to specialize in Diabetes. It took me years of trial, error and an understanding nutrition and portions, losing 150 pounds, walking 2 miles a day and getting my a1c from over 11 to 6.5 and being taken off ALL my diabetes meds, the results are undeniable.
@@sybillc263 I think what I stated in my reply shows what I've learned. What else I learned is that doctors aren't taught a lot of things like nutrition, it's most likely why they call it a "medical practice"...
i wanted to put this to the test. i woke up and had 123 on my blood glucose. i exercised, showered, had 3 scrambled eggs (with sliced tomato, jalapeño and onion) with avocado and a small corn tortilla. i waited 2 hours, took my blood sugar test again and it dropped to 90. i’m so shocked. i’ve never had it anywhere below 109. thank you so much.
@@louisevad6091 Better advice is to test your individual reaction to tomatoes. Even the strict Dr. Bernstein makes an exception to the fruit prohibition for tomatoes (for himself only). No substitute for testing.
When I was diagnosed type 2 5 yrs ago, was surprised my dietician said eat as much eggs, bacon and red meat I wanted. For years we heard these foods were bad. Avoiding carbs (esp sugar products) eating right, snacking on nuts, losing 10 lbs, and daily exercise dropped my A1c from 12 to 5.6 in 3 months with NO insulin.
Had the same experience, my problem is getting bored with the food options that I know are best for me. I do eat something bad once a week just to try to help with that.
Those are bad foods.. for your heart. For your cholesterol levels those are very bad foods. I hate this idea of "eat whatever you want within this particular food group." That is almost never the case. Even leafy greens are bad if you're taking certain medications because they can cause bad side effects. You need an individualized plan. And you have to take into account more than just your diabetes. Understand that your body isn't just dealing with blood sugar levels. You also have to worry about your fat intake and what kind of fat you're taking in. Eggs and avocados have great healthy fats but even the good fats need to be taken in in moderation. Steak is horribly notorious for raising your cholesterol levels which will lead atherosclerosis and heart disease in the long run. Be careful.
@@roselyn132 funny my cholesterol levels have never been an issue and I eat low card high protein. Bacon every morning. One fried egg. Doctor always says my cholesterol is perfect.
I just ate three eggs, 3 bacon strips, 1 whole avocado and glass of water. My blood sugar was 126, 123, and 118. Thank you, this information is fantastic. God bless you.
Dr. Berry, I started listening to you over the winter. While I am now FULL CARNIVORE, I started in February with getting sugar out of my diet. At 57, I had been wearing bifocals for several years, and last years eye exam was my worst. Eyesight was 20/50, and 20/60. I was completely dependent on glasses for every task. After quitting sugar in February 2023, I felt like my eyes were getting better. By mid summer I was not wearing glasses at all. So I made an eye exam appointment for last week. My eyesight is now 20/20, 20/25. The doctor was absolutely amazed, never seen improvement like that. The office was all a buzz. I told her about you, Kelly Hogan, and Dr. Chaffee, and getting sugar out of my diet. If my eyes healed up without sugar, what else may have gotten a foothold in my body that will now heal on the carnivore diet. I am down 17 pounds and I feel fantastic!
hello there congrats on your amazing progress. I too suffer with vision loss from diabetes, im curious were you able to heal your eyes as in blood spots ? I have blurred vision but am saddened to hear from my doctors my vision will never be what it once was and the sad part is i am only 31 .
@@clarissa5585 G'day, I have type 2 diabetes and was short sighted since I was 13. I had a real sweet tooth all my life until I quit sugar and all sweet things 10 yrs ago, same thing happened to me 6 years ago I couldn't wear my glasses and when I had a check up my eyes were both back to normal. I'm 67 now , don't wear glasses anymore and haven't seen spots in my eyes for a few years. Until I read the previous comment I never could explain why and neither could the doctors. Hope this helps.
@@cherylbradbury4875 oh wow thts amazing, great to hear and am so happy for you . I’m on day 3 right now of no sugar and am having terrible headaches but I’m going to push through it and keep on going.
@@clarissa5585Drink lots of water , take a magnesium supplement and you can take Ibuprofen or Panadol. Sugar withdrawal can last from a few days to a few weeks. Maybe you could try weaning yourself off slowly and allow you body to adapt. Sugar is like a drug, your body craves for it. All the best. 😺
I was recently diagnosed with type 2. My Blood sugar was between 300 and 500. I followed this diet and now it is between 109 and 165. Thank you! Love YOU!!!!!!!
@@habibifather7681 I am not sure exactly because of all the changes going on especially with my doctor having me adjust the diet, but No more than 10 days. Also I had eaten some things I should not have in that time frame. But sticking with this diet it should only be around 6 days. I also was prescribed Metformin and Empagliflozin about a week after this, but I dont think these drugs had the impact this diet has.
I tried to go without breakfast and went for a walk only to return and be without energy for the remainder of the day. For me, going without breakfast is courting disaster. Thank you for all the other breakfast ideas!!!
I never eat breakfast. I get up at 6:30 and get my daughter ready for school. After she’s dropped off and I get home around 8:30 I drink my coffee. I will eat eggs for lunch With a side of meat round 12:30-1:00. I gotten slack from my doctors my whole life telling me I am very unhealthy for a diabetic. I come back with my A1C is 5.8 with level sugars 🤷🏻♀️ must be doing something right!
As of Jan 5, 2023, I’m cutting out all breads and sugar including my beloved, Splenda. I’m fasting into 12pm (no breakfast), drinking only water or warm black tea. Gonna stock up on blueberries. I’m starting a low impact exercise regimen. The plan is to drop for 185lbs to 175lbs in four weeks. I’m 5’ 9”. Wish me luck.
UPDATE: As of Feb 13, 2023, I’ve lost 10 lbs. I’m now 175 lbs. I neglected to mention that in addition to eliminating all added sugar, processed foods, milk, grains, artificial sweeteners, and vegetable oils, I have been intermittent fasting every day ranging from 18/6, 21/3 and 24 hour OMAD (one meal a day) fast to eating windows. The next goal is to lose an additional 10 lbs (to reach 165 lbs) by March 30.
Recently been diagnosed with type 2 a1c was 10. Coming from a lifetime of iced coffees, Potatoes, chips and pasta and sweets with milk almost every night to this I'm excited for the weight loss and the chance to reverse this.
I just have just finished my breakfast. I ate 2 eggs (from my own chickens) 1 avocado, 1 slice of steak, 1 bacon and rice for breakfast. I do a very physical job so I feel I need the rice. I stop eating by 2pm until the next day. I feel so much better for doing this and lost a stone this year already.
I love rice but not had any since I "got" diabetes. I have way more energy now that I did. I feel rice is just sugar in a different form. A1c from 11.3 to 5.7 with no meds.
Good Breakfasts Choices 1. Eggs 2. Avacado 3. Bacon 4. Steak 5. Full Fat Greek Yogurt with sprinkled nuts on top. Bad Breakfasts Choices 1. Oatmeal 2. Banana 3. English Muffin 4. Raw Oats 5. Cereal with Skim Milk
My "Breakfast" was at 7pm today. ;) 2 whole eggs, 2 yolks omelette w/ bacon bits, broccoli florets, goat cheese and a little cheddar. Seasoned with turmeric, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt & pepper. With red cabbage as an accompaniment.
To everyone reading this, I sincerely pray for that whatever is causing you pain or stress will pass. May your negative thoughts, excessive worries and doubts disappear, replaced by clarity and understanding. May your life be filled with peace, tranquility and love
I was diagnosed type two when i was 30. I've been saying for years that the low fat, high carb diet is all wrong for most diabetics, but my healthcare team wouldn't listen to me. I fought like hell to get away with not eating breakfast, because I just don't want to eat first thing. I want to eat 2-3 hours after I get up. I'm now 53, and finally turning my life around. Subscribed as soon as you started speaking.
@@hamidab7939 I just ask if they're 'really so arrogant that they won't consider something else? Are we really just machines to you?' That usually stops them and makes them think! (PS I got the arrogant thing from Phoebe in Friends, when she was asking Ross if he was so arrogant that he couldn't consider that evolution might just be a teeny, tiny bit wrong. It's worked very well for me!!).
When I worked in medicine (at a family practice office) one of our patients went to diabetic nutrition counseling and she came back to see us a couple of weeks later. She said, "Look, I know I'm not a medical professional, but this just seems wrong. Their advice is to eat a bunch of carbs and take the medicine. I ate what they told me to eat and my sugar is HIGHER. Wtf?" I of course agreed, but I'm not the doctor. I can't legally say anything that could be construed as medical advice. On her next visit with us 90 days later, her sugar and A1C were in the normal non-diabetic range. When asked what she was doing differently, she said she had been following a pretty strict keto diet. I cheered inwardly that she had discovered this for herself, but of course, the doctor had to give her the canned lecture about fat and cholesterol and all that crap. She went to her diabetic specialist and nutritionist for follow-up and they blew a gasket in rage because she wasn't following their plan. They didn't care that she had amazing results because she wasn't doing what they told her to do. They ejected her from their practice and reported her for medical non-compliance to her insurance company, which threatened to drop her insurance coverage. It was a whole big mess, but I am SO HAPPY that she chose to do what seemed right and achieved amazing results!
I had amazing results eating the way you advise. There are so many opposing views about what a T2D should eat, BUT the advice you gave to closely monitor your own blood glucose after eating is the BEST way to learn the truth. I did this and reduced my HbA1c from 9.9 to 4.9, WITHOUT MEDICATION. I did this at age 62, now 3 years later at age 65, still doing great!
I concur that KETO was great. I did it back in 2017-19 and then the Pandemic and my BF who lectured me for eating "too much cheese" and other that berated me for not eating carbs.... threw me off. I was more concerned with just having food and everyone was making bread and while we ate a lot of fish and vegetables roasted in the oven... The overall stress just was too much. I mean even my DOCTOR saw the results.. and said keep on whatever you are doing... as she had warned me I was prediabetic but then I normalized... I don't know why the mainstream medical is still pushing this bad advice. WHen i was full blown diabetic she pushed the metformin. She even called me.. (which she has never done so she was apparently super concerned!) after my A1C was 7.5....
I don't usually say anything about these videos, but out of all others, Dr. Berry is an excellent speaker with a perfect tone of voice, communication skills and true sincerity. And he certainly confirmed my thoughts about good and bad food. So thank you sir.
I’ve been sharing your videos to all my family. My oldest brother & myself are the only ones who are being careful. I’ve lost 15 & he was already trim. He is just modifying his already great diet. I have my blood sugar down to 113 this morning. It is the lowest since I was diagnosed a few years ago. We appreciate you
I was diagnosed with type 2 today, did blood work 3 days ago...it was a Friday. All they did was hand me a prescription for Metformin and told to try to walk more. Unreal. Learning how to deal with it through UA-cam and Google. Cut all sugar and most of carbs Friday to see what happens. I lost 4.5 lbs in a weekend. Going for a 16 hour fast, high protein diet, with no sugar and few carbs as possible. We'll see how it goes.
I am type 1. Having no carbs would cause me to go low. Bacon and steak is no good for cholesterol. Cereals are fine as long as they aren't one full of added sugar. But I am British and we probably don't do things like the Americans. I would not rely on the sensors 100% for blood glucose readings and also, this all depends on your exercise. We are all very different and what works for one may not work for another. Do what works for you.
I am neither diabetic, nor close to being diabetic. This just made sense to me so I tried it. A couple eggs, a couple strips of bacon, a small hass avocado, a small container of yogurt and my usual herbal tea. I found it to be very filling, provided lots of energy, no heavy bloated feeling, along with a smaller lunch since I am not starving, and I'm shedding pounds fast. All big wins and I am not even diabetic.
That's great, David! A lot of times, I go OMAD! That's one meal a day! I also don't eat breakfast until later in the day. So I basically skip breakfast in the morning. And with these kinds of foods to eat at my first meal of the day, I can definitely have that as my only meal of the day. But at times, I do eat one more meal around 6pm and it's usually a huge salad with all kinds of greens like spinach, bok choy, arugula, green leaf, and I add veggies, mushrooms, chopped pecans & walnuts. I make my own salad dressing with EVOO, Apple Cider Vinegar, a wee bit of lemon juice, seasonings; fresh ground Pink Himalayan salt, fresh ground black pepper, fresh ground garlic, semi-dried basil & oregano. Yummm! If I do eat a smaller meal before that, sometimes I add cold chicken strips to my salad.
Bacon, which is loaded with sodium, is one of the worst things you can eat. The sodium causes you to retain water, which, in turn, can increase blood pressure. The best rule of thumb is, if it tastes good, it’s bad for you.
@@casey4602 Not really Casey..... Eggs have been found to not clog arteries... not the bacon maybe but use Turkey bacon instead of port..... and I substitute Chicken for the Steak....
Hey Doc, On January 6th 2022 I was admitted into the hospital 3 days after diagnosed with Covid. I was given some preventive medications to help with the covid systems B and C vitamins 350 milligram aspirin and a steroid. Three days later I'm in the hospital with my blood sugar at 780. Never being diagnosed a diabetic before this and now in the hospital not knowing why I can't quench my thirst and I've never urinated more in my life. Took three days to get my sugar to the 250 range before each meal, checked out of the hospital now shooting insulin 4 times a day. That's the back story. while in the hospital I started doing doing research on what in my head would be the best thing I could do right now, and I didn't want to do a diet alone. I was in need of a life style change. Came across the primal blue print and I also came across your channel. Well after hour of listening to and following the blueprint I have success. After four weeks, Four weeks mind you, I have lost 37lbs. I work out 4 days a week, 1.5 hours a day. All cardio. I have brought my sugar Level into the normal range and I have not had to use insulin in 5 days. " It is February 5th 2022 mind you" Your videos have put me in the right direction, and I feel that I awe you a great deal of appreciation for putting these videos out there. I with my new life style I feel I will only get stronger. I am a 51 year old male, 5'11 and on January 6th I weighed 251 and today at the gym I was 214. In my book, you saved my life. Now my family will never have to know how diabetes destroyed their farther or husband, because that will not be my destiny. Thank you so much for helping me see the light. It happened for me when you said that dyeing from a heart attach right now would be better than the 12 years on insulin dependency, was the exact wake up call I needed.
Wow I feel like I just read my exact story same thing happened to me 2weeks ago I ended up in the hospital with my blood Sugar 680, endless thirst & peeing all day. Being newly diagnosed I'm trying to find my way as well. I was wondering where you found the primal blueprint you mentioned I would really like to check that out??thanks and congrats to you.
@william allport the steroid will jack up your glucose like that. it can last for a really long time. it revealed your sensitivity! just keep it in mind if you have to take steroids again
I've had half a dozen Dr.'s tell me how bad my type 2 diabetes is, acting as if I set out in life to be that way, no info, no tips, like they don't know much or don't care enough to explain what I should really do, I hate metformin, I struggle to eat properly due to low income, all of this has been so uninformed and frustrating that I have seen it all from getting healthier to not caring and now hearing you explain how it works and where my food intake is the culprit, I have a new point of view to go at this problem again with renewed hope thank you good Dr.😁
I struggled for 8 yrs but have found eating 1 boiled egg in the morning with a piece of whole wheat toast n 2 pieces of turkey bacon or turkey sausage n a 1/2 cup of tangerines or oranges or pears ,peaches is a good breakfast. Blue berries, strawberries with BlackBerry Hills sugar free granola is good also. But just 1 boiled egg in the mornings helps keep your blood sugar down. Remember 1/2 a cup of most things u eat makes a big difference in your bldsgr levels. Stay away from white bread, n white flour. Good luck dear.
Been taking sugarmd supplements and my A1C went from 7.6 to 6.4. Started taking their super berberine and stopped Metformin. It is a struggle and I try hard to follow the right diet as you folks do also but those vitamins and natural products made a huge difference without the side effects. Still on insulin but hope to cut that down very soon. Hang in there, we are all having the same problems but good info is making an improvement!
Im so glad you mentioned low income and the your struggle to eat well. So many dont understand that! The healthy food costs so much more than cheaper food. When you have limited funds the choices are limited. God bless you on your journey.

Excellent. I have breakfast at about 10:00. Mostly scrambled eggs with chopped cherry tomatoes, onions and a little salsa sauce and a healthy portion of grated cheese. Then slice up half an avocado. Sometimes, add bacon or a piece of streak. Some cherries and strawberries on the side, and wash it down with a mimosa. My BMI is normal, and my A1C is now 5.7. Hope to bring it down just a little more soon.
I was just diagnosed as prediabetic a few days ago-6.2 and you’re officially diabetic at 6.5. I already had a feeling I was heading there which was why I ordered the physical but luckily I already watched most of my starchy carbs like not eating potatoes, French fries, cereal, etc. It’s sugar laden coffee and other sweets like condiments that were killing me. I threw out half of the contents of our fridge and cabinets that same night and my husband was ultra-convinced that plain oatmeal and bananas are super safe which I’ve always doubted - SO GLAD I FOUND THIS VIDEO! Now I have receipts!
Also diagnosed pre-diabetic three weeks ago. Did the same thing. Took the food I had in the cupboards such as rice, pasta, spaghetti, sugar and ALL the root vegetables and donated them to the local food bank. I now only eat eggs, bacon, avocado, fatty meats, tins of sardines, butter, cheese, full fat milk, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce and asparagus. My wife thinks I'm crazy but hopefully my next blood test results will prove otherwise.
I've been insulin dependent type two diabetic since 2010. A few years ago, I started gardening to get away from pesticide laden produce, and switched from seed oils to lard and butter. Beef tarrow if I can find it. I also raise chickens for eggs. I either bake my own bread, or purchase from a bakery. No off the shelf bread for me. Needless to say, bacon and eggs is my main go to breakfast. Also I make my own jellies and preserves, no high glucose corn syrup in my diet if I can help it. As a result I've lost in the ballpark of 80 pounds, and cut my insulin dependency by two thirds. I feel more energetic, and am on the way to recovery. It is going to take time to fully get off insulin, but I'll get there. My A1C has improved from a peak of 11.8 to my last test results of 6.3. My diet is not perfect, but it is a lot better. Every month, I eliminate more processed foods as I switch to a whole food diet. That is what is working for me. More and more, the food that I eat comes from Mennonite and Amish recipes, eating pesticide free organically grown food. It is hard to believe, I live in climate zone 7a, and am still growing. I am looking forward to start harvesting broccoli and cauliflower in a week or two. I also have carrots, beets, parsnips, and Swiss Chard still growing. In less than four weeks, I start seed starts for my next gardening season. Yeah!
I ate a big bowl of oatmeal with pecans, walnuts, cinnamon, banana and a pinch of maple syrup. 1 hour later I had a massive headache. After pounding some water and a 20 minute resistance workout I feel better. And I was sooo close to cooking two eggs and bacon with avocado instead. Lesson learned! Thanks for helping me confirm what my body was telling me.
Since I started fasting and eat the things you said my blood sugar gone from 120 to 81. Got my results about two weeks ago and my A1C is 7.20. My sis die four years ago from diabetes, She had all kind of complications. I don't want to ever go through what she when through. Thank God found you. May God continue to bless and and keep you in good health 🙏
I am almost in month 7 on carnivore. My A1C has dropped down to 7 down from double digits . I am hopeful for a great Christmas with my A1C under 6! I am ever so grateful for your videos. These have saved my life.
I love that he’s the first doctor to say that it’s ok to not eat breakfast!!! I never eat breakfast and trust me, I’m better off for it. Whenever I do eat breakfast I feel sluggish and yucky. This really helps keep sugar levels down and overall caloric intake
No, Dr. Ken is NOT the first doctor to say it's ok to not eat breakfast. Dr. Eric Berg, one of the preeminent and best known physiologists/keto specialists in America has been saying it for YEARS! He has a very popular keto advice channel here on YT, and he does hours of research daily to keep up with, and to update, his own knowledge. He and Dr. Berry are the two best sources of keto and carnivore information "out there."
Thank you for the information. I love that this information is offered to the public for free and you are not selling some kind of miracle drink or book.
Dear oh dear, I have been making a banana smoothie with oats, flaxseed and cinnamon made with almond milk every morning for about 2 weeks. Sometimes I use strawberries instead of banana. I have been doing this because I thought oats, lowered your cholesterol and I can tolerate a drink rather than food first thing. To be honest, most of my life, I have never been a breakfast person but I was diagnosed with type 2 about 4 years ago and have been diet controlled since (not sure how). My recent annual tests however, show my Hba1c is now 59, my blood pressure has gone up and my cholesterol is 6.7 Both diabetes and high cholesterol runs in my family. Here in the UK, I have only spoken to a diabetic nurse a few times and there is no support. I have to see my doctor on Friday (3/17/2023) to be put on blood pressure medication. I do however eat lots of eggs though not sure what my limit should be. How can I get some help?
Type 1 diabetic here. I've been without doctor care through the last year and a half due to my doctor moving away and doctors not taking new patients during the pandemic, so I rely a lot on what I can find on the internet. About a month ago I went full keto and while my body protested the changes and had to endure an ER trip after my blood sugar spiked over 300, I've settled into the diet - which includes the foods you listed. I'm also down to 18 units of Insulin a day (down from 24) and have lost 7 pounds so far. My eyesight improved to the point I can wear an old prescription I thankfully held on to, and all of the rashes I had on my body disappeared. I also have more energy than ever. Doctors start taking new patients in July, so I'm hoping I find a good one to go back under their care. Thank you for the great advice and your channel is an absolute wealth of information that I've slowly been working through.
I'm watching this in 2023. I have been dealing with gout for the last four years. Recently, I've been diagnosed as prediabetic. The foods you are suggesting cures one of my symptoms but worsen the other. As a gout sufferer, I'm told I am not supposed to consume red meat, ie, bacon, steak. I've recently started eating eggs again albeit cautiously because the yolk contains arachidonic acid which is highly inflammatory. I've been eating veggies and fruits but have now transitioned to leafy green veggies ie, kale, cabbage, lettuce, etc. I eat a small slice of ripe papaya with my eggs in the morning. I'm lost! I'd appreciate your wisdom or anyone in a similar situation. Lastly, fasting is bad for gout because it raises your uric acid and again it is great for diabetes. Thank you
@RD, try a pescatarian diet (a vegetarian who eats fish and seafood) and follow portions to a "T", it works wonders for me but admittedly not for everyone!
I use to have gout but drank 16 ounces of blue berry juice a day until it was gone then drank 4 to8 ounces a day also substitute black cherry juice for a change ,avoid tomatoes, red wine, or anything red, avoid presweetened juices,I haven't had gout for 10 yrs now,but can tell when it will flare up again, then its back to 16 ounces again until symptoms disappear.Hope this helps.ń
Wonderful advice! I just got into Keto about 6 weeks ago, realizing I'd been eating totally wrong for the past year (oatmeal for breakfast, for example). I'd quit sugar about 2 years ago and the best thing I've noticed is that I no longer get those horrible muscle cramps! I'd had them for 30 years. Now, without the sugar, leg cramps are a thing of the past! If somebody had told me about this, I'd have quit sugar 30 years ago!
I wish I would have quit sugar years ago before the damage was done but I did quit about 3-4 weeks ago and I am getting positive results so maybe with time I can reverse some of the damage!
My sister is in a nursing home because of uncontrolled high blood sugar. I couldn’t believe they gave her a donut for breakfast and spaghetti with garlic bread for dinner. Unbelievable
The did my mom the same when she was recover a stroke. I had to be there and tell them no she’s diabetic... she can’t eat that. And had told their nutritionist the meals where better but still not the healthiest
Been doing this for a year now - mostly, we fast for breakfast but have ‘breakfast for lunch’ with eggs, avocado, and sometimes bacon for lunch. It’s worked wonders for my A1C and general health. Thanks!
You really opened my eyes Doc. I always thought oatmeal was a good breakfast. It’s no wonder I’m over weight and type 2 diabetic too. They told me skim milk was ok now I find out it’s full of hidden sugar.
If your milk is anything like ours, the only difference between skimmed milk and whole milk is milk fats. Sugars (lactose/carbs) are effectively identical. If you are healthy and drink milk in moderation, the fats are good for a balanced diet.
Type 1 here. Breakfast is always the easiest meal choice for me. I have no problem doing low carb for breakfast. It's the rest of the day that normally gets me into trouble because I feel low carb options are more limited, but I'm working on it. I recently had a lengthy hospital/physical rehab stay and bless their hearts they tagged me as diabetic and were both following ADA guidelines.....and basically trying to kill me with carbs. I had to special order every meal and tell them exactly what I would and wouldn't eat. In their defense, they were very accommodating, but if left to their own choices/guidelines it would have been a disaster!
As a type 2 and now 70,Found a lot of this video is on target, Almost 2 to 5 eggs every breakfast since age 25 and no heart problems. I as a kid loved oats but only turns to mush in my system. Subscribed and looking forward to learning more, Thanks
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes this past January with an A1c of 8.9 First, thank you so much for the HOPE you gave me in that I had a sense of having control over my well being. My sister recommended your site as someone recommended it from her hospital to her. I immediately put into practice your suggestions and this was the 1st video I watched. My test results just came back my A1c is 6.6 and NO meds. Fortunately, my Dr. trusted me enough, because the meds she originally prescribed i couldn't keep down and after 1 week of no meds and showing her my blood sugar levels had dropped significantly (245 down to 115) after just 1 week of your "human diet" no insulin was prescribed. After my recent visit, her advice to me was to continue with my "healthy diet".
In January 2021, my a1c was over 11 in a short 9 months eating a very restrictive low carb diet I was able to drop my a1c to 5.5. My doctor took me off two of my meds for type2 diabetes. The next quarter my a1c was 6.2. I was allowing myself a few more carbs, which was a mistake on my part. I know better now!
Thanks so much...I have been eating a big omelette with with cheese and bacon and ham on most mornings and sometimes it is all I eat all day. I’ve been able to eliminate my Novolog and drastically reduce my Levimer! I’m glad I am doing the right thing!
watching your You Tube channel I have reduced my blood sugar from about 230 to the 160 to 175 range the last 30 to 45 days , also using your fasting methods and eating mostly one meal a day, Just wanted to say thanks it has made a big difference in my life !!
I have to admit that I usually have 1/2 of an English muffin for breakfast (otherwise foods that are included in your "good" list). I know it's not great, but it is an indulgence that gives me the strength to maintain my diet through the day. Mental health is important, too.
Maury Povich had a woman on his show that was deathly afraid of pickles. She worked with a mental coach so by the end of the show was able to sit calmly next to a plate of dill pickles without running away and screaming. It’s all just mental tricks and crutches.
You tube has a super fast keto English muffin replacement you could maybe move to. Or continue limiting, from your daily one half to every other day, then one day sundays! Either way, you are right it is the big picture that matters most. Good luck.
Don't let the naysayers get to you. No matter how "bad" half a muffin might be, if it keeps you from ditching the diet and going back to more unhealthy ways, it's worth it. In my opinion the main thing that destroys diets is going at it too hard and essentially, setting yourself up to fail. Good luck and keep up the good work.
I still have some cold cereal hanging around but use it instead to sprinkle in cottage cheese for crunch and flavor. I rarely eat ice cream or yogurt but will crumble a little dry cereal or some crushed nuts for flavor if I do. Once this cereal is gone I won’t buy anymore but as expensive as food is I refuse to waste what I do have. As long as I am eating it only on occasion and not as a steady diet but to add variety to an otherwise bland food it does less harm. Remember many of us are seniors who have dentures or perhaps chewing issues. Some of us go to food pantries who are given food by well intentioned people and much of it is canned goods, cereal, pasta and tuna or peanut butter for protein. In moderation you can make interesting meals with otherwise questionable food items.
Every diabetic Dr or Specialist I’ve had since 1981 advice on my diet was; “eat anything you want just watch your portions.” Post meal glucose 250-400, no matter the size of insulin dosage. 1st meal I ate no bread or crackers it was 90 2hr later so I started Keto. All of your good choices work and bad choices are always bad!
The problem with diabetics is they are always in denial. They eat what ever they want and overdose themselves on insulin.. I saw it on a family member. And I don't see how a doctor can even treat a pts diabetics, when the doctor is giving the Doctor all the wrong information about how they eat. Drink coffee and a toast till late afternoon. Check blood sugar after they eat. Non of those are try readings. It's like weighing yourself after you gourge yourself with food.
I pretty much eat what I want with portion control and for the last almost 3 years my numbers have been outstanding and my A1C level has been down to 6 for the longest..
@@ktcarl Exactly. Keep Bacon (I suggest Turkey Bacon)as a Type 2 Diabetic myself to no more than 1-2 x a week. Plus having eggs up to 4-5 x a week is strongly recommend as well. With that said, other than veggies and fruits, I don't think anyone diabetic or not should *the same meal* every damn day. That also applies to oatmeal which I eat only 1-2 x a week.
I've been a lacto-ovo health-wise vegetarian for 50 years and was shocked to just find out I'm prediabetic! I won't eat the steak or bacon, but I'm going to try cutting out carbs (breads, rice, potatoes) and sugars (mostly agave), and eat more eggs, avocadoes, and full fat yogurt. Thank you Dr. Berry!
You know one thing I discovered after so long is the great taste of black coffee. Almost the majority of people I think have so much junk added to their coffee - it's like drinking a candy bar. I discovered I love the taste of plain black coffee. You get the full taste of the coffee - SO good
I'm T1D - super resistant to insulin in mornings and a hefty spike is unavoidable. Now, my go to breakfast is eggs, avocado and vegan sausages. Perfectly filling and low carb, requiring no bolus. Sometimes I even skip breakfast and take an early lunch at around midday. Both of these options result in a perfectly stable blood glucose.
Great video. The BEST foods you can put in your body are salmon, avocados, berries (all types), nuts and generally any meat including eggs. Its difficult to change mindsets when we have been told that orange juice, cereal, and low fat diets are good for you but its all wrong. I read Dr Atkins book about 25 years ago, before it was mainstream, and now MANY health experts and hospitals will do low carb diets in obese people. Why? It works.
MD's dont have a lot of nutrition education. They also get their information from the ADA and food pyramid. It's our health. It is easy to blame others for something that everyone should take some responsibility. Today, more people are researching their nutrition and health, as are you. So good job!😊
I'm type 2 diabetic and reversed A1C 9.9% down to 5.1% eating keto. Just about every day I eat 3 scrambled eggs, 2 bacon and homemade guacamole. I eat 4oz yogurt for brunch.. homemade with high bacteria count, sweetened only with stevia. So I eat 4 out of the 5 foods you mentioned in the AM :) I eat steak every so often when I can afford it.. usually for lunch.
Hi Doc. I’ve tried everything just about that you’ve suggested and I must admit, they’ve all worked. Thank you for caring enough to share conscious and honest content. 💋😍

This guy makes so much sense! I'm on a keto diet and my husband recently was diagnosed with diabetes -- and the nutrition list given to him was joke. When I read oatmeal and english muffin, I was confused thinking how could those items be diabetes friendly when are chalk full of carbs. Thanks for validating my suspicions, Doc!
And it shows how corrupt our media, medical, and food industries are. They have been promoting "misinformation" for decades. Remember the food pyramid??

Super food for breakfast: Eggs, avocado, bacon, steak, Greek yogurt with nuts. Food to avoid that increase blood sugar: oatmeal, banana, English muffin, muesli with berries, cereal with skim milk. Advice: if one can avoid having breakfast then that’s great.
Berries are low sugar fruit and provide me critical nutrition. I typically eat old fashioned oats with mostly hemp hearts and I actually don't need any sweetener with it, cinnamon on the other hand...🤗
I am not a diabetic and alternate between low sugar oatmeal with MCT Oil, walnuts, cinnamon, creatine, taurine and collagen. It is delicious and filling and I immediately go for a 2-mile walk. On other days I have 3-5 eggs, cheese and occasionally bacon or steak. Oatmeal is a rare carb that I eat on workout days.
I stopped eating oatmeal and I noticed a huge difference in how I feel. I'm not diabetic but I will eat those things you listed. Thanks for the advice Dr. Berry.
I worked 34 years. I never ate breakfast a lot. Just grabbed an apple or banana for work and drank hot black tea. I was diagnosed pre-diabetic for several years. But my job was very active and I was able to keep my A1C under 5.8. But when I retired my body was so tired I was sick a whole year. Slept for days from all the stress of working. Then I ended up with going through 5 years of recovering from 3 surgeries. I still ate what I want. But I had become inactive being laid up. Now 9 years old I was diagnosed as a diabetic with an A1C of 6.7 two months ago. I’ve had hardly any symptoms of diabetes. Just tingling in my right fingers. I will try the breakfast of two eyes, 1 bacon strip and a small steak daily. I need to start walking at least 3 days a week. I need to stop all the snacking, white bread and pasta and all sugar. I went to church and I was prayed for to rebuke diabetes in Jesus name. I need all the help I can get. ❤
Right now I have no gall bladder and because of that I’ve developed fatty liver. I also have hypothyroidism/Hashimoto’s disease. When I used to work I never ate until lunch at 11:30. I went from 160 to 180 and need to lose weight to help myself.
One of the few GP that understands what works. I also add sausage on my breakfast rotation. I am one of the lucky ones, in that strawberries, raspberries, watermelon and Cantaloupe, have no to minimal impact on my blood sugar.

Interesting on the Oatmeal., an NIH study of Oats on Diabetics listed in the conclusion : "the present systematic review has revealed a beneficial effect of oats consumption on glucose and lipid profiles in patients with type 2 diabetes, and could therefore be recommended to patients. Naked oats, having low calories, might provide more benefits and a recommendation of 3 g or more per day of β-glucan might be beneficial."

I went into the hospital feeling like I was dying. I found out I’m diabetic. Had to do the insulin drip along with shots. My breakfast meals where cheerios and skim milk, tatar tots and a sugar free muffin. All i wanted was eggs. 😢 For dinner I got grilled cheese and tomato soup. It’s very confusing. This is my first morning home and all I wanted was eggs. My husband made me eggs cooked with small amount of avocado oil. After I was pulling up videos and saw yours. It was very helpful. Don’t get me wrong, everyone I dealt with at the hospital were great except the food. I’m glad a watched your video. Thank you.
I've been type 1 diabetic for over 25 years. You find out pretty fast that carbohydrates are the enemy and what exactly makes your blood sugar high. I haven't been eating breakfast for over 15 years or so and I take less insulin in the morning and feel fine. With my coffee of course. A1C was 5.9 a few months ago.
@@EleriOnline T1D here too - For me, I just can't avoid a sharp spike in mornings. My dosages are correct because I'm always back in range eventually, it's just that I reach high BG, which doesn't happen for my later meals that have a lower carb-insulin ratio and I can stay in range fully between meals also. This is why I've switched to low-carb/no breakfast and can be 85%+ in range for the day.
For years I suffered from hypoglycemia. My hands would shake, and I’d get a white line around my lips. I remember my mom giving me protein back in grade school when this would happen. She was on the right track. Now by staying away from high carb foods, all of my signs of hypoglycemia have completely disappeared. If I were to have oatmeal now, my heart would pound so hard so I avoid it altogether.

Started working out again. Thought I had a good diet (over 50) and then came to what I thought was an infection, got tested, all good. Also was getting so tired after I would eat. Which leads me down the pre-diabetes rabbit hole. All these bad foods was what I was ingesting for more energy, instead I would get tired. Switching to more meat proteins and cutting all the oatmeal & bread I eat daily. Awesome information, new subscriber.
Thank you! I've been off of insulin since 2012 or 2013. I bought a case of strips and checked my BG before during and after everything I ate. that's how I found out that foods the dr told me "stabilized " my glucose actually jacked it up and kept it high for days. popcorn takes a week for BG to normalize. legumes 3 days. grapes and bananas are out! but a tiny piece of candy or berries it went up but back down. everything they encouraged me to eat increased my need for insulin and the closer I filled their instructions the more insulin I was on. my monthly insulin bill in 2012 was $1500.00 per month! I found out I'm allergic to grains, dairy, eggs and several other foods. when I stopped all things I'm sensitive too and started a supplement called HCA made from garcinia Cambogia I was able to stop the insulin. my A1c is 5.5 but my sugars are still elevated 125 first thing in the morning. I miss eggs like crazy but they cause abdominal distress. even duck eggs get me after 1 or 2 servings. Thanks for telling the truth!
I switched from fried to boiled eggs to eliminate the grease. We boil a dozen eggs at a time so breakfast is quick and easy, just grab an egg from the fridge, peel it and ready to eat.
@@robertball3578 I envy you! my very favorite is poached soft. it's eggs and dairy I am allergic to. I even made them retest both yolks and white and came back positive allergy to both. :(
i can attest that oatmeal is the worst. If i eat oatmeal my blood sugar sky rockets. i would say bagels are even worse. I would add greens to your list, i eat eggs with sauteed spinach most mornings.
@@j.jester7821 I absolutely agree. Everyone around me kept saying "oatmeal helps with blood sugar, you should have it" etc which is what pushed me trying to find the "right way" to eat it. Reality is oats are just so much carbs and so few fiber, the best thing to do is to just give it up. I myself couldn't switch to a salty breakfast like eggs & bacon, but I find greek yogurt & a nut mix with seeds works absolutely perfectly for me.
My A1c was 9.3 . 3 months later after changing diet to very low carb and mostly meat. no added exercise. lost 25 lbs not hungry no sugar cravings. A1c now 6.2. feeling much better.
One of the breakfast options my mother gave us back in the '60s-'70s was sliced banana in whole milk topped with sugar! My Dutch grandmother gave us sugar sandwiches: white bread, butter, and sugar, when we got home from school. As a baby, my mother and grandmother gave me the juice from home canned fruit in my baby bottle. My God, I'm surprised I lived through it all. Had 13 cavities at the age of 4, and was always hypoglycemic. Never reached DM2, but my A1C was getting close by the time I was 57 yrs old. Switched to keto, dropped the A1C, improved other markers, added 1000mg of metformin, the supplements Dr. B recommends, and NMN and resveritrol, cod liver oil and broccolli sprouts and feeling pretty fabulous!
When my mother gave me the recipe she was told to use for my baby formula in 1951 I could not believe it!!Sweetened condensed milk was the base ingredient.
@@josummers5045 what I remember of baby formula in the '60s was that a primary component was Karo syrup! Yeah, we just didn't have the information back then. Now we have all the information, but a higher rate of obesity. Sigh.
I was having success on a lazy keto plan and my doctor scared me off it (despite weight loss and improved numbers). Because of health anxiety I listened to her against my better judgement and now I’m on increased insulin and with out of control sugars. I’m so glad I found your channel!
My doctor said basically do a keto diet in the end after he told me what to eat I'm new to the diabetic world but some how have gone down to 107 blood sugar in the morning
I was recently diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic after ending up in the hospital with covid-19. Had trouble controlling my blood sugar this video helped me to make sense of it. Like a lot of diabetics immediately I figured I needed to start doing oatmeal with berries and crap. But I'm cutting out the carbs eating eggs steak avocado these things have little or no impact on my blood sugar
It's trial and error , what affects others may not bother you, the American Diabetes Association Website has a Forum for Type 2's and everyone on there is a Diabetic with wonderful help and information , helped me a lot when I was first diagnosed , it's very daunting as you think you can't eat anything, but you can in moderation just find the things that your body can handle, good luck! but eggs and bacon are always on the menu (thank you English Breakfast I knew there was a reason I loved you since childhood) 🤣🤣
Portion size matters when it comes to diabetes, despite the fact that all the foods mentioned are good to control diabetes but moderation must be applied.
May I ask what you learned from experience?
@@sybillc263 I think what I stated in my reply shows what I've learned. What else I learned is that doctors aren't taught a lot of things like nutrition, it's most likely why they call it a "medical practice"...

When I was diagnosed type 2 5 yrs ago, was surprised my dietician said eat as much eggs, bacon and red meat I wanted. For years we heard these foods were bad. Avoiding carbs (esp sugar products) eating right, snacking on nuts, losing 10 lbs, and daily exercise dropped my A1c from 12 to 5.6 in 3 months with NO insulin.
give us some foods and meal plans you used. TIA
Had the same experience, my problem is getting bored with the food options that I know are best for me. I do eat something bad once a week just to try to help with that.
What about high cholesterol. 8:10
Be careful.

Wtf?"
I of course agreed, but I'm not the doctor.
Please help me what you eat and how you eat???
Where do you get your fiber if you're not taking any grain?
This is pretty close to a miracle🙌🏽🙌🏽 thanks for sharing
We appreciate you
Awesome!
So refreshing to hear someone publicly admit they were wrong & correct themselves .. thank you!!
@mikewheeler6031 I experienced the same thing. All they want to do is give you Metformin. I told her Not For Me!!!!
You are British? My deepest sympathies, your food is awful--But you're right about steak and bacon

High protein diet boost your metabolism but clogs your arteries...
That's wonderful news David.
Thank you for sharing
AWESOME!!!
Wow I feel like I just read my exact story same thing happened to me 2weeks ago I ended up in the hospital with my blood Sugar 680, endless thirst & peeing all day. Being newly diagnosed I'm trying to find my way as well. I was wondering where you found the primal blueprint you mentioned I would really like to check that out??thanks and congrats to you.

the steroid will jack up your glucose like that. it can last for a really long time. it revealed your sensitivity! just keep it in mind if you have to take steroids again

Yep. Sadly most doctors are aholes. I truly wish you all the best on your journey to health.

@Michael Obama same with the cereal, skim milk, and banana 🍌 ugh it's frustrating
You are diabetic at 6.5 ?
I was at 7.2 and still considered pre diabetic luckily I'm at 5.2 now
Also diagnosed pre-diabetic three weeks ago. My wife thinks I'm crazy but hopefully my next blood test results will prove otherwise.

drop the bread, fool.
The oats could probably be fine, but in a small amount and fermented overnight in kefir or yoghurt.
maple syrup😐
That was the maple syrup, of course, and the amunt of oatmeal.
Probably the banana.

Same here! I’ve been eating oatmeal every day for three weeks. No wonder my a1c shot up. Doing keto also

If your milk is anything like ours, the only difference between skimmed milk and whole milk is milk fats. Sugars (lactose/carbs) are effectively identical. If you are healthy and drink milk in moderation, the fats are good for a balanced diet.
My brother has eaten oatmeal every single day for at least 20 years. He is not diabetic and at 73 he has no excess fat anywhere on his body.

How old are you?
Awesome! Congrats . Im getting hope from your words as well!
Hi, we’re your meds metformin by any chance?
I’ve changed to an avocado for my breakfast. I like my eggs, & steak! Dropping cereal, & oats! Thanks!👍🏻🥰

I would call that a craving that you haven’t gotten rid of. Your mind is playing tricks on you
You tube has a super fast keto English muffin replacement you could maybe move to. Or continue limiting, from your daily one half to every other day, then one day sundays! Either way, you are right it is the big picture that matters most. Good luck.
Bread would be my drug or choice but I promise you'll feel better without wheat. There's alternatives like using almond flour.
Coffee for breakfast for me with Coconut oil and Heavy whipping cream... Lots of Fat calories.. no carbs....
Thank you Dr. Berry......
Yeah, was also doing so well until I was told to eat everything in moderation

@@ktcarl Exactly. Keep Bacon (I suggest Turkey Bacon)as a Type 2 Diabetic myself to no more than 1-2 x a week. Plus having eggs up to 4-5 x a week is strongly recommend as well. You know one thing I discovered after so long is the great taste of black coffee. Almost the majority of people I think have so much junk added to their coffee - it's like drinking a candy bar. I discovered I love the taste of plain black coffee. You get the full taste of the coffee - SO good
@@ericnorthman9410 Agree. Started drinking black coffee ☕️ in the Navy years ago. It's always just black coffee.
Why the vegan sausages?
Great video. The BEST foods you can put in your body are salmon, avocados, berries (all types), nuts and generally any meat including eggs. Its difficult to change mindsets when we have been told that orange juice, cereal, and low fat diets are good for you but its all wrong. I read Dr Atkins book about 25 years ago, before it was mainstream, and now MANY health experts and hospitals will do low carb diets in obese people. Why? It works.
Exactly
I cannot believe the lies my Drs told me!!! I should sue them! I have self helped myself with this common sense approach.
Doctors make mistakes and science brings more knowledge. Still best to see a doctor and get a second opinion before you try self diagnosis/treatment.

God bless you...you're doing great!!
Awesome
Getting any number under 6 is a win.
How old are you
do you have a blog or some place you talk more about DB and eating keto?
Hi Doc. I’ve tried everything just about that you’ve suggested and I must admit, they’ve all worked. Thank you for caring enough to share conscious and honest content. 💋😍
Finally somebody telling us useful information. I've been a type 2 for about 10 years all you hear cut sugar carbs basically eat card board. I like this guy
Dr. Atkins was saying this back in the 70's. He got destroyed for it. Just shows he was way before his time.
You’re correct!!
And it shows how corrupt our media, medical, and food industries are. They have been promoting "misinformation" for decades.
Remember the food pyramid??
Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine was WAY ahead of his time, too (lived from 460-370 BC...90 years old when people usually died in 40s!) "Let your Food, be your Medicine" - Dr. Berry and all who are telling you the TRUTH about diet continue in his tradition, GOD bless them all !!!!
Didn’t he die of a heart attack?
Well Atkins was a nut case your body is not made to be on absolute zero carbohydrates somewhere explains why he died early.
Breakfast is important. Especially for people with sugar imbalance.
Berries are low sugar fruit and provide me critical nutrition. I typically eat old fashioned oats with mostly hemp hearts and I actually don't need any sweetener with it, cinnamon on the other hand...🤗
I've never really liked breakfast foods, but 2 eggs and a steak suits me fine!!!
Berry.
Good for you. "Quaker Old Fashioned Oats were found to have the most glyphosate per sample." I'd stay away from oats.
Us too...we treat ourselves as diabetic (which we aren’t) and we love this type of eating!!! Keto lifestyle 100%
@@jglee6721 What about organic steel cut oats as a side dish?
@@jglee6721 thanks for that note!

My doctor told me that I may have become type 2 diabetic because I never have eaten breakfast. So now I can skip breakfast and it's okay. Got it.
I personally am ok with berries but not melon!!! xxxxx
Hi greetings frm Mumbai India I'm.a snr citizen diabetic since 15 yrs. Thanks doc! I'm a T1D. Thanks to your advices my BG is nearly flat with meals included!
Wow excellent result Rob, I'm really happy to hear those results.
@Chaz YES!!! He's part of my Hero collection ;-)
I’ve been a Type 1 diabetic for 47 years, your advice and guidance is refreshing and invaluable, thank you for providing a positive alternative to the usual norms . Subscribed and looking forward to viewing more of your videos. 😊👍

Grass fed Eggs, Bacon, and Steak - A vocado, and Greek yogurt.
I think you mean Avocado and Grass FED-EGGS. I concur and eat the same.
Why should eggs be grass-fed? Chickens are omnivores.
@@Arjunarjunskiy the grass fed is all inclusive of the outside grass aka bugs worms grass all that
@@b1glexxThat grass fed is more of a selling pitch. Chickens have been eating bugs, worms and everything that crawls ever since human kind, those are the real, true, natural, and healthiest and best tasting chicken you can ever eat, farm grown chickens.

Maybe 'grass fed' as opposed to those kept inside and fed on grain, no grass, no bugs.
When you said Steak, Bacon and Eggs, I was jumping with joy! I can eat that 24/7/365. GREAT Video! Thanks Doc!

I've considered skipping breakfast or eating later in the day but worry about my blood sugars dropping too low.
I’m type 1 and love carbs, as long as you dose correctly nothing is off limits. A1C is 5.4 and I eat all of those ‘bad foods’ for breakfast.
My A1c is 5.6 is that good or abd
@@Brenda-nu4lg That is almost pre-diabetic which starts at 5.7.
My heart pounds like it’s tryna escape my chest glad to hear I’m not alone

Yeah, I’m sure the nitrites and nitrates in the bacon are good for your health…oh wait….
i can attest that oatmeal is the worst.
I thought I was the only one with a Grandma who gave us sugar sandwiches, using white bread, white sugar and whipped butter.

I was having success on a lazy keto plan and my doctor scared me off it (despite weight loss and improved numbers). Because of health anxiety I listened to her against my better judgement and now I’m on increased insulin and with out of control sugars. I’m so glad I found your channel!
Fired that doctor. Some doctors be misleading and don’t know what they are talking about.
Oh wow. Same here!
