I've watched a lot of these mock oral exams on UA-cam, and this is one of the better ones. If the student answers incorrectly, the examiner will say what the correct answer is. This is helpful! The mock oral exams I've found on youtube are generally great. This one in particular is excellent though because they state what the correct answer is after each question. There are too many mock oral exam videos where they either don't state the right answer at all, or they wait until the very end of the mock exam and then only go over a few corrections - I think that can lead to problems for prospective pilots watching those videos.
Thank you. I cannot confidently say there are no errors but I did put 100% into looking things up and editing the video to the best of my ability. I’m glad you liked it.
What a great video. Thank you for giving detailed, correct answers. It gave me time to answer and if he was wrong you guys corrected and explained the answers. Excellent

The 91.205 reference at the 18:15 mark is inaccurate. My DPE failed me on this part for my PPL ground portion. I couldn’t remember every item by heart but advised him that it could be located in 91.205. I asked him to allow me to go to that section in the FAR and he said this was not an open book quiz and then proceeded to explain I failed and the checkride was over. This is a DPE in central Florida and the checkride was 12.16.22.
That’s absolutely not true. You are able to look up this item as a private pilot. When you go for your certified flight instructor, that’s another story. your DPE was wrong by failing you for that.
Just a small note at 22:55 - there's a spelling error in one of your symptoms of hypoxia (that, or an item from the mile high club chrcklist was copied over by mistake) 😉
I don't know if the regs were updated since the weather minimums used here, but currently helicopters operating in class G airspace below 1200 AGL are 1/2 mi CoC in day and 1 mi CoC at night. Deathwish minima, but there they are!
You were getting pressure altitude and density altitude mixed up. Pressure altitude is not a corrected altitude at all. It is just the height above a standard datum (29.92). Density altitude is pressure altitude corrected for non-standard temperature. Density altitude is the one that effects plane performance, IE the plane performs like it is at that altitude.
You do have to need to know all of the Day and night VFR instrument / Equipment as stated in 91.205. This needs to be all closed book. You need to know all the items by memory for Convective Sigmet, Sigmet, Airmet.
This was really good! And you can make it even better...some of the questions and answers were not understandable...please make another one with new questions...Thanks and make the next one great!

I don't really agree with the statement that TAS increase even for a little in ground effect during landing; on short final right before entering ground effect, throttle is reduced, causing drag to be greater than thrust. This is the exact intent of the round out, to decelerate the aircraft as it approaches the runway. As the aircraft enters ground effect, induced drag is severely reduced, but not to the point where it would become lower than thrust forces (which are close to zero when the engine is idling at low speeds). I would agree that TAS deceleration is reduced when the aircraft enters ground effect, but I wouldn't agree that it actually ever increases. The argument would be different at constant thrust, say on a low pass over the runway in ground effect. Great video by the way! Very instructive
I "love" this mock checkride video ! I wish I had this when I was going through my PPL. I have already shared this video with other people I know who are starting their ppl to assist them. Great job on separating the section for private pilots and PPl to go back and refresh; it makes it easier to find. Tom and Bevin, awesome mock checkride ! I am in the category section now. I still have more to watch...
sigments are issued every 4 hours which is correct, but convective sigments are issued every 2 hours not 6. Airmets are issued every 6 hours. correct me if I am wrong. This video was very helpful I have my checkride in 4 days.
Incorrect, do not confuse words "valid" and "issued". Both Non-Convective SIGMETs (WS) and Convective SIGMETs (WST) are unschedule products, issued as necessary. WS when issue are valid for 4 hours (except SIGMETs associated with Tropical Cyclones and volcanic ash which are valid for 6 hours). On the other hand WST with continuing phenomenon will be reissued every hour.
@@BATAviation thank you! I should have been subscribed! I looked at my history and noticed I’ve watched plenty of your videos, especially the ones with the Archer. I’m almost done with my PPL and also fly an Archer. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
In the portion he contacted FSS for a weather update, where did the 113.7 come from? Can FSS just contact you on any frequency you are using like a practice area frequency for example? Thanks in advance and thanks for the helpful video!
I asked Tom about this one and we are not postitive but we suppose they could if you were in the right place at the right time. Usually, to contact FSS, you would find the frequency that you can call them at and one to listen at (sometimes they are different) on your sectional. I hope this helps.
I am just starting my training and studying for my PPL. Using the Gleim tests prep. Intend to start my actual training in June 2023. I am really nervous now because it's so much material to learn. I'm wondering to myself.. how in the world am I going to retain all the knowledge needed to pass the check ride.
I don’t really see this guy being very prepared at all or much confidence that everyone else claims lol. He says stuff like oh I’ll probably get it wrong right off bat and shouts out acronyms like how you become pilot and 91 how they take it away etc. like yes that’s technically true but he’s not really trying to get into it. He’s just throwing anything at it. But I don’t mean to sound negative.it’s a great video and great to use to help prepare for checkride absolutely:)
We do these mock oral exams to help the student prepare better for a check ride… This is not an actual check ride. :-) That’s why I try and correct as much as possible to help you guys out, Thanks for watching and subscribing!
I had a quick question about the IMSAFE checklist, the student said external pressures and then was corrected with eating/emotion. I had a CFI a couple of years ago who taught me that the E was eating/emotion, another CFI told me that its all 3, but my current CFI says that its only external pressures. I've always kinda just said all 3 because especially to me all 3 are worthy factors to be on that checklist
The ant-crawling feeling on the skin is actually formication. Fornication has something to do with flying a mile high and performing certain, er, acts...
@@jacobanderson9292 test question: Special VFR in Class D □ the pilot must be Instrument rated & the airplane must be IFR equipped. The question said nothing about being night or day
@@joshuahunter2825 Gotcha, I'm just saying as an instrument rated commercial pilot, I know it an instrument rating only required when getting SVFR for night flight. The test answer may not reflect this but that is the correct answer if you are doing an oral with a DPE. Interesting fact, but you cannot fly in Europe at night at all without an instrument rating.

Your DP will not expect you to know everything, but have a strong knowledge and know where to look things up. I private pilot license is a license to learn. If you know who you will be taking your exam with then we recommend speaking to others, who have already taken their exam with the same GPE, and finding out what questions that he asked. @@BATAviation I will thank you!
Great Training Video, thanks!
Thanks!

AIM 5-1-3 (g) says the ‘D’ NOTAM is ‘Domestic’ rather than Distant
Yes, you are correct
This is a great video for receiving your pilot private license! Thank you so much 😊
Thanks for the feedback! And thank you for supporting our channel by subscribing!
Fantastic video.
Thanks!
Thanks for the share!!!! Hope you’re doing better!
sigments are issued every 4 hours which is correct, but convective sigments are issued every 2 hours not 6. Airmets are issued every 6 hours. correct me if I am wrong. This video was very helpful I have my checkride in 4 days.
Yes, you are correct! Thanks for subscribing!
Helicopter G airspace cloud clearance is clear of clouds, both day and night. VIS is 1/2mi day , 1 mi night
I don’t know why Tom was throwing a helicopter in there when we are GA for airplanes only. Lol
@@BATAviation through me for a loop too. But all in all this is an excellent presentation!

@@BATAviation thank you! I should have been subscribed! I looked at my history and noticed I’ve watched plenty of your videos, especially the ones with the Archer. I’m almost done with my PPL and also fly an Archer. Your videos are very helpful. Thank you.
@@papishampoo5235 wonderful! We are so glad to be helpful!

Airmet good for 6 sigmet is 4 convective is 2hr
A complex airplane must have controllable pitch prop, retractable landing gear, AND FLAPS!
Correct
i catched this one too, i paused it and opened my notes, FLAPS not mentioned in the video
Awesome, thank you!

27:04 i see the 122.1 xmiting where did you get 113.7 recieving from?
It’s on the chart
If it’s not on the chart anymore, then it may have changed, but this video is from a few years ago
great video helped me learn a lot!
Excellent!!! Good luck on your checkride!!! Thanks for subscribing!!
Great video very helpful, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for subscribing!

No problem! Thank you for subscribing!
One step at a time!
love the MK toasty
Haha - you’re the first person to comment on that one!
Thanks for this! Very helpful!

25:15 Incorrect. Hypoxia is lack of oxygen to the *body not just the *brain.
It’s eating/emotion. External pressures is part of your PAVE checklist. :-)
Are there any DPE’s here who would say weather this was a sat or unsat oral?
You are going to really need to know all of this information in this checkride by memory.
22:55 I had no idea hypoxia caused fornication but now that I know that I'm taking all of my dates above 15,000 feet on the first date.
Hahaha
The ant-crawling feeling on the skin is actually formication. Fornication has something to do with flying a mile high and performing certain, er, acts...
38:41 Special VFR has to be Instrument rated and has at lesat 1 mile VIS. This video is GOLD. $700 I am about to do my checkride
Thank you and thanks for subscribing!!! Good luck!!!
you don't have to be instrument rated for special VFR unless you are flying at night.
@@jacobanderson9292 test question:
Special VFR in Class D
□ the pilot must be Instrument rated & the airplane must be IFR equipped.
Did you have a collection.of images you pulled from for the examples? I seldom find such concise info sheets and I'd love to see the whole thing.
What are you looking for? Exactly? I’ve started creating my own PNG‘s to put in the videos that I edit to help people get their eyes on what we are talking about.
@@BATAviation That's the one! The PNG's. The Airspace Triangle especially looked really useful!

High performance at 200hp? Thought it had to have more than 200hp?
Yes, more than. You are correct
great resource, would this have passed an oral btw?
Yes! You don’t have to be perfect on your private pilot checkride. Just have a good strong knowledge and know where to look things up. Let me know how you do on yours! Thanks for subscribing.
Just curious - How much additional studying did the student do before the real check ride, and did he pass?
That was his mock check Road that we do before every check ride. Afterwards we will review any discrepancies and re-train/study for them yes. He definitely passed his check ride. We highly recommend learning as much as possible, but also knowing where to look things up in the event that there is something that you forgot or Have trouble remembering. Your DP will not expect you to know everything, but have a strong knowledge and know where to look things up. I private pilot license is a license to learn. If you know who you will be taking your exam with then we recommend speaking to others, who have already taken their exam with the same GPE, and finding out what questions that he asked. That will help you know which areas you really need to study at four so you can pass with flying colors.
Eh, sorry about the typos. I was using voice text.
