I have the P7, and it has passive tone control. I' ve also got a P5 and like the neck better on that one. Thinking about getting the P8 to have best of both.
It’s just a common shape for a lot of bass lines. Songs that use that similar sound are “I will survive” by Cake and “Pain lies by the riverside” by Live. So if it seems familiar that might be why.
I just got a P8 5 string last week, and I love it.
They all have the same pre-amp so yes the P7 does have passive control
