I discovered Brubaker basses a few years back ( I have spoken with him a few times). I actually have his low end model the Brute Bass which I love. In a few weeks I want to get his modular Bass J bass.

My gigging bass is a Gibson LPj dc bass. I love it. My next instrument will be a SG bass, it's different enough from the LPj, to warrant. (That's what I be telling "She who must be obeyed, anyway ")

I have the one in Heritage Cherry figured. It's a beast. Bought it brand new in 2022 from zZounds Music for $1400. A year later they're asking $2100 for them.

You think that the bridge is too narrow for the arm? I mean, the strings above fret 12 are not so close to the bottom and the upper side of the arm. Got a trbx 504 and have been thinking in changing it for a bit more precision.
@@rodolfoboimarinho6504 I didn’t have any complaints about the bridge or string spacing. I believe it’s 19MM string spacing which is standard for most basses
How’s the volume? Are the pickups hotter than your standard bass? I love a hollow body tone and the ones I’ve played run a little hot.
It’s not a bass I would characterize as being too hot. Most of the sounds are subdued the loudest and punchiest being when both pickups are on in single coil or humbucker mode. But it’s not like a super hot bass volume wise.

Fender Player Mustang Bass or Yamaha trbx604fm is better ?
One is a short scale and the other is a full scale bass. So it’s tough to say one is better than another for you. I would go for the Yamaha it’s more flexible with active/passive and a full scale bass. Unless you are looking for a smaller bass then get the mustang

Great bass. I had the 1982 fretless for 40y. Ahead of its time, and even today still very fine. Last year I got in love with the SRF705 and have sold the MC-924. The SRF705 has a 5th string, the stunning piezo pickup and a stiffer neck. But for the rest the MC-924 still holds very well against it. Even some nicer things, like the balance knob (instead of 2 volume controls), a tone control for the mid, a thinner neck and the active/passive switch. The only thing I did not like about the MC-924 was the pretty severe C# dead spot. The SRF705 has a mild one at D#.
On the DiMarzio website the wiring diagram for the Relentless pickups shows the tone cap as .033uf it also show the volume pots should be 500k but the tone pot remains 250k. The wiring diagram link tab is on the Relentless J page.

It’s just a common shape for a lot of bass lines. Songs that use that similar sound are “I will survive” by Cake and “Pain lies by the riverside” by Live. So if it seems familiar that might be why.
When doing the series and K mod settings does it only work if both pickups are on or can it affect the individual pickups?
It can affect individual pickups it’s actually how I like using the front pickup switching to series makes it closer to a P bass just roll back some volume and a little bass.
Did Peter Hook from New Order and Joy Division play that model bass?
No, that was a Hondo Rickenbacker 4001 bass copy. Nowadays, Eastwood produces the Hooky Bass 6 with the same Joy Division/New Order sound. Funny enough, I got the same menacing Peter Hook tone by using my Cort electro-acoustic bass by pulling the bass knob setting up. So the solution does not have to lie in an expensive reissue bass only.
When I think of Peter hook I think of the Yamaha BB but I know he played other stuff.

I saw a video of him talking about a Yamaha bass he likes that has 24 frets or two octaves and how Yamaha replaced that model with one with 23 frets and he likes having 24, not 23. Just I also recall seeing him play a hollow body bass but wasn't sure the brand and it looks like the bass you have. Maybe different but similar.

I have the same set up: Sire P5 with Dimarzio Relentless P pickup (with other colours, though, i.e. red bass and black pickups) and am very happy about it!
Can you have a great justin chancellor tone with this bass. Some say alembic can sound close to wal basses , what s your opinion ?

Truss rod I would have your luthier look at. The string height or action is more personal taste. Some guys like it low where string is right on fret board, some like it higher I am a medium action guy just high enough where there is no buzz but low enough to get clank
Hello, I have your same bass and I had thought about an improvement for it. I don't know if by changing the pickups for these, I would like to get a precision vintage bass sound. Do you think it is a good investment to spend €150 on these pickups plus luthier installation, is it a noticeable improvement or on the contrary is it something that can be dispensed with? As a general rule, my sound is always with the tone off. what do you think?
EMG Geezer Butler's. Set comes with the pots and all wires are plug-in-play, very easy to do yourself.
The sire P5 has a decent pickup in it but the most dramatic change you can make is changing the pickup. The default pickup lacks a little low end and is missing some punch. It’s not bad either. It does the P sound good enough.

I have the P7, and it has passive tone control. I' ve also got a P5 and like the neck better on that one. Thinking about getting the P8 to have best of both.
I hate myself for still wanting this bass even with all the issues common with it. 😅

I love my l-2000 just for the jazz bass mode with single coil mod.
Greatest bass ever made. I purchased mine in Misawa Japan in 1982 and played her until she was stolen in Fort Worth Tx. in 1991. Many hours were enjoyed with that bass. I miss that bass very much. I have 3 Fenders trying to replace her but they do lack the tone that only a MC-940 has. The neck profile is perfect and the controls are exactly where they need to be. As for looks they can’t be beat. Enjoy your bass. If I ever find another in my price range I’ll grab it. God Bless. Sincerely, Pops fitch

That's a nice problem to have. Did you have any problem with buzzing (not hum) when the tone on either pickup is up? Mine is going back if I can't resolve this electrical issue.@@thebassman8687
The sustain on this bass is pretty sick. You have to play one to appreciate it.
