Good afternoon Brian, This lake used to be owned by the Walt Keeler company back in the 60's - 70's. Don't know when they finally sold it & the property. This is a cool piece of property on the west side of Wichita. ❤ I'm glad your cleaning/Clearing it up. This place use to be kept up.....they would ride their boat's, ski dos, out to the island to fish, BBQ, campfires, camping.... fond memories
I agree with suemasongreen. I love a neat yard and keep mine squared away… But I’m also constantly building habitat for birds/hummingbirds/butterflies/other species etc. I see no reason to clear a natural habitat. One can certainly “think about” removing the dead growth of a tree… But even a dead tree is habitat for birds, insects, etc. This is Man’s folly to make the Earth the way he wants to see it, instead of the way it’s meant to exist naturally and function.
I live on a HUGE lake. We leave all our islands in their natural state. Can't even imagine why someone would want to "clean" it up. Oh, and the bass love the trees and overhang. Giving the fish structure and a natural way to avoid the heat.
@@leecarey4375honestly you are correct after re-watching I see now there is nowhere to go to beat the heat except next to the surface in that huge lake under some dead limbs. I apologize for my stupidity.

As the bushes were just cut down and not actually removed, they will soon spring back to life. Necessary to prevent wind erosion of the sand on the island. Amazing Video! I hope and look forward to additional videos from the island. Please post More videos Brian. I could have watched a 2 hour video. You have done your part to hopefully stop island eroding completely or being gone for Anyone To Enjoy! ❤
@@TopNotchLawns It was a great idea to restore it to a usable state and you two did a fantastic job. If you have time, stage 2 would be to plant grasses to prevent the erosion. For example, you could plant rushes along the water line and tussock on the slopes. You can also do things such as create embankments using deadfall wood. It's a real thing. I've helped with volunteer beach planting/retention projects. Plenty of info online. Anyhoo, thanks for all you do. Always enjoy your videos.
I don’t know much about this type of erosion, but if they are just cutting down the plants above the ground, would the root systems still be in place protecting the soil. I think it would be helpful and really esthetically pleasing to add some of the large pieces of drift wood or downed trees around the island to help.
@@janetswope5695 You're definitely correct but sandy soil like this would be quite prone to rain and wind erosion once you remove the top cover. Also, planting grasses that spread horizontally without getting too high would help to crowd out the weeds and keep the ground usable.
I would love to own a small island like this. To be alone, less noise that is the dream! I'd have a tiny house full of books and a comfy oversized chair. That's the life!
The fact that this is sped up makes the traffic in the distance sound like you guys are just casually ignoring a zombie apocalypse from the safety of your little island.
Don’t know if I would like being on that island with the noise pollution from the airport but I sure did enjoy the clean up and watching a camp fire in fast motion! Fire and wind is dangerously fun to watch!😊
This is going to erode more now you really need the brush an root systems to build an island at least grass on the ground growing so it doesn’t dry out an blow away all the top soil wind barriers around the island draw sand to the banks making them shallower stopping more erosion
🤔 so you think the turtles birds and ducks are upset about this situation? Idk I'm probably wrong but didn't it look like there was more room for everyone to hangout? Including human beings I know we are supposed to love everything else more than our own self because you are an American 🇺🇸! But can't everyone just hangout on the island? That has the guts to get to a island. I wish I could go to a island.
VERY cool idea . . I've never seen anyone else "makeover" an island before !!! It would cost a lot of money, but retaining walls could be built to hold the soil/sand up against the trees. It would be a cool place to build a pavilion in the center of the island ( high ground ) and have picnics. A beautiful view in EVERY direction.
Wow, that was something different ! Wouldn´t it be nice to construct a lttle cabin on this island for some weekend trips with fishing or just sailing around on this lake. 🏝Very entertaining, thanks for taking us along ! 👍Greets from GER, U.
Never seen this done b4 Brian.. great job.. the clearing of the overgrown stuff gives the owner new options and likely gives users of the lake a new place to stop while on the lake for the day... some of your best work.😍
Debbie is right "Cutting out the under brush will just add to the erosion." Paths would have been a much better way to let people enjoy the spiders and cockroaches. and hold the island better for the animals that use it as a sanctuary and nesting area....
Maybe the owners will decide it is worth the money to barge over some soil to save it and the remaining trees. Either way with all the dead wood taken down it would make a nice place to picnic or fish and have barbeques again. Sometimes it take a second look to see the possibilities. That was a lot of hard work for the two of you and you did a wonderful job. 😎
Awesome video. I was surprised by your mistake with the mower. I'm glad you didn't get hurt. It's a very small island with a lot of dead stuff. Those were nice fires. I hope someone will use it now.

Yay thanks Pam 👋😊😊👍
Amazing Video! I hope and look forward to additional videos from the island. Please post More videos Brian. I could have watched a 2 hour video. You have done your part to hopefully stop island eroding completely or being gone for Anyone To Enjoy! ❤
Someone else mentioned that! Maybe this winter, I can post an extended version!
What about wildlife that could have been in the undergrowth?
Not a lot of wildlife on that small island. What about the abundant wildlife in the millions of acres of forest destroyed.
Wow that wind was crazy! Camping and s'mores!!!😊
Cutting out the under brush will just add to the erosion. Otherwise it looks great.
Very good point. Someone else mentioned that.
@@rodeohog I was thinking along those same lines!
@@janetswope5695 You're definitely correct but sandy soil like this would be quite prone to rain and wind erosion once you remove the top cover. Also, planting grasses that spread horizontally without getting too high would help to crowd out the weeds and keep the ground usable.
Neat job! Thanks for sharing. It was fun to watch!
Being out in the middle of nowhere isn't a good place to get hurt. You guys did an amazing job.Just be safe.
I would love to own a small island like this. To be alone, less noise that is the dream! I'd have a tiny house full of books and a comfy oversized chair. That's the life!
Oh my! ❤ What fun!😮
Yes! ☺️👋👋
Brian this clean up & video is most awesome 👌 what a difference not to have those sketchy bushes etc. Hats off to the two of you 🎉❤❤
The fact that this is sped up makes the traffic in the distance sound like you guys are just casually ignoring a zombie apocalypse from the safety of your little island.
This is an amazing video. I don’t think anyone can top this one. The night shots were awesome! Love your channel!
Wow - how ingenious!! Absolutely thinking outside the box!! What a great video! God Bless You & stay safe.
Thanks ☺️😊👋 This song is definitely fun! Blessings to you
Yes he is thinking outside the box. I totally agreed with you.
Amazing well that’s something out of the ordinary brien great work 😊
This is the coolest clean-up video any of us has ever done. You even brought over the little push mowers, this is a ton of work man. Great job B!
@seanslawns hi dad haha I am watching Mistur Brian too
Don’t know if I would like being on that island with the noise pollution from the airport but I sure did enjoy the clean up and watching a camp fire in fast motion! Fire and wind is dangerously fun to watch!😊
This is going to erode more now you really need the brush an root systems to build an island at least grass on the ground growing so it doesn’t dry out an blow away all the top soil wind barriers around the island draw sand to the banks making them shallower stopping more erosion
I love being able to look through the trees now.
I hope the grasses (and weeds) grow back some to slow down the erosion.
So who’s Steve?
Why,does everything need to be cut down? Isn’t that’s what called nature. Birds seek shelter turtles, ducks lay eggs. Just curious.
I feel that way about a lot of lawns also
Great job it looks really good. I hope people can use it again. It looked like a lot of hard work.
Excellent job Brian. What a beautiful little island. ❤❤😮
Hey Sheryl 👋👋😊 I agree!
I agree! And the pavilion idea sounds awesome!
Wow, that was something different ! Wouldn´t it be nice to construct a lttle cabin on this island for some weekend trips with fishing or just sailing around on this lake. 🏝Very entertaining, thanks for taking us along ! 👍Greets from GER, U.
Hey U 😊👋 definitely! Would be Awesome to get off the grid and relax!
I think it looks better and more inviting now.
Thanks Penny 😊👋 Hope you’re having a good week
Awesome video today something different ❤ getting ready for wind and rain from the hurricane that is coming. Everyone needs to pray for Florida 😢
Definitely! I saw there was already storm surge!! Stay safe out there man! 👍👋😊❤️
God was with you, glad you weren’t injured. Great job. 😊
Removing all the underbrush will cause more erosion and the loss of trees. Places where people don't go, such as green spaces, are perfectly fine.
Not necessarily. You will be amazed at how rapidly regrowth occurs.
Great job Brian!!!!!❤❤
Never seen this done b4 Brian.. great job.. the clearing of the overgrown stuff gives the owner new options and likely gives users of the lake a new place to stop while on the lake for the day... some of your best work.😍
Wow that was worth while to watch,Steve good thinking re log, this island looks amazing,a great place to chill out now..thanks UK out..
Debbie is right "Cutting out the under brush will just add to the erosion." Paths would have been a much better way to let people enjoy the spiders and cockroaches. and hold the island better for the animals that use it as a sanctuary and nesting area....
Awesome job!
It looks great 👍
Almost certain you the first 🥇🏆 y'all rock for this one
Thanks 👍👍 It was definitely fun!
THIS IS SUPER COOL TY🎉❤🎉🎉❤🎉🎉❤🎉
Thank you 👋😊❤️
Awesome video. I was surprised by your mistake with the mower. I'm glad you didn't get hurt. It's a very small island with a lot of dead stuff. Those were nice fires. I hope someone will use it now.
Andrew Camarata cleaned up island about 4 years ago!
Ah! I must have missed that one! I will have to check it out
Yes he did but he was able to get a mover to it via row boat since it wasn't that far from the mainland. if Andrew was Hercules, he could have tossed the mower to the small island.
yeah, in a pond next to someones house. but this is just crazy, gonna do the forrest next??
My favorite part was the wood ramps he used to load the mower
That was the first video I watched of Andrew's and haven't stopped watching him since. ua-cam.com/video/MP1HkicY0Eo/v-deo.htmlsi=LdvangRWBlLybHCF
Before and after looks awesome!!! Great job you guys.
I would love to be able to see that from a distance. This was fun to watch
Thanks so much 😊👋
