When you dropped the needle on this first Boston album way back in the '70's this was the first song you heard. Then it rolled into "Peace of Mind" (which you need to react to next) Then side one ended with "Foreplay/Longtime" When you picked yourself off of the floor you flipped the album over and continued on your Boston journey. Have fun.
SiriusXM did a listeners poll last year to form a top 500 list of greatest rock and roll songs. Guess which one came out on top? Yep, this masterpiece from 1976.
@Ed Zepplin It's been my declared favorite song for many, many years. But recently I'm very tempted to say it's been bumped down by one or two tracks from Tool's Fear Inoculum album. They've really put together some mind-blowing work.
I ended up buying the LP 3 times...because I wore out the first two! I just have it on CD now... it's always in my car's CD player...along with Daughtry, Foreigner, and AC/DC.

He didn't pull a band together until he realized he needed to start touring. He is a freaking genius - and an MIT-educated mechanical engineer.

Tom Scholz, one of the lead guitar players and creator of Boston was an MIT grad and an engineer for Polaroid. He created the Rockman , a device that made the guitar sounds Boston is known for.

Remember, this was recorded in 1975 in guitarist and Boston's leader Tom Scholz's basement as a DEMO, who played ALL the instruments. Brad Delp's AMAZING vocals and vocal overdubs over the original master were cut, after the song was laid down by Scholz.
This is false. 8. Scholz re-recorded the demo songs, plus some additional songs, for BOSTON's eponymously named first album, released in 1976 (the "debut album"). I can't say enough good things about this song and album. It came out when I was 8 years old and I remember being in the back seat of my parent's 1967 Mustang listening to this song. The first album from Heart was that same year. Been a fan of both since first listen. So many good memories from these bands. Keep up the great work, Scribe. As always, happy subscriber.

Tom Sholz is the guitarist. He is an MIT graduate and has pattens on his equipment. Brad Delps is the lead singer. There fist album still remains #1 in all sales.
Great reaction to this! Boston's founder Tom Scholz basically recorded the entire album in the basement studio of his house, and brought in Brad Delp to do the vocals. Tom Scholz has a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. The record company needed a band to promote the album on its release, so that's when Scholz added other members and the were used for subsequent touring. This debut album by Boston, released in 1976, remained the biggest selling debut album by a band in rock history, until Guns and Roses Appetite for Destruction debut album surpassed it in 2018.
Not quite. All of Brads vocals were recorded in big name LA studios The entire song Let Me Take You Home which was written by Brad and the song was recorded by the band as pictured on back of the record before this record was finished and before any tour was even planned
Every instrument performed by Tom Scholz and made in his basement. Tom Scholz is a MIT graduate in engineering. Invented the Rockman. Brad Delp did vocals.
My friend in High School had just bought the brand new Boston album in 1976 and said to me, you got to check this out. He played it for me and my reaction was like WOW, OMG , this is so incredible and such an amazing sound. I never heard anything like that before. It blew me away. We had really good weed too.
These guys sound was something no other band could do, Tom Schotz (hope it's spelled his name right) was the first to use synthesizers and a few other little doodads to create Boston's unmistakable sound. What's even more amazing is how Tom was able to do all this in their live concerts. Awesome music and talent, lead singer Brad Delps voice was unbelievable, his 5 octive range added to the excellence.
Glad you enjoyed it so much. This song freakin' rocks. I remember I had it on cassette as a kid, and I kept rewinding it over and over again. Wore the danged thing out.
My first time on this gal's channel and I love her reaction. "Perfect" and "hard to beat" no argument there. Forty some years later this music absolutely holds up..
I've watched a fair few reactions to this masterpiece but yours girl has to be one of the best, to really appreciate the whole production of the music & vocals you have to listen to it without reading the lyrics, then you will see the true reaction of emotions & appreciation for this epic piece
What can I say? An amazing, if not the best reaction ever to this song. Such detail noting in real time. Realizing now that doing "reaction" videos is like exercising a gift or an art. Regarding the guitar solo, what was it that you said? "Like annointing a royal king in space" Wow. I've been watching reactions to this song in particular to the solo, often not recognized. Yours, perfectly put.
I saw them in a small arena in 9th grade for this first album tour. It was pretty mind-blowing. And all those harmonies and that High singing? It was all there at the live show just amazing.
Yep during high school I had Boston, Lynryd Skynyrd, Robin Trower, Blue Oyster Cult and Frampton on the 8 track in my 1969 Camero cruising main street with mags and Radial TAs. Girls were thin, hot, and there were basically no STDs. Young dudes today missed some great times!
Tom Scholz, who wrote the song had a HUGE crush on his cousin when he was a kid. He goes on to say that he thought that she was the most beautiful girl in the world! Her name is Marianne. The interviewer asked him if she knows that she is the namesake in the song, Tom smiled and said; "She does now!"
Brad Delp saidnin an interview it got to where he hated doing the belts in this song because they were so difficult and demanding, but man did he ever nail it! RIP Brad Delp
This was Boston's debut album and Boston started out as one electrical engineer by himself, recording each instrument and then using Phil spector's wall of sound to Overlay it. Then he had to find a singer! Enter Brad Delph! ( every track on this album hit number one on the charts and they had to make a mad scramble to put an actual band together so that they could Tour! Boston in concert is nothing like Boston on vinyl!)
Tom's degrees from MIT are in Mechanical Engineering and he was a Product Design Engineer at Polaroid. Tom did not use Phil Spectors wall of sound. I am not sure where this fiction comes from that disrespects Brad in this way. Brad met Tom back in 1970 through Barry. Brad sang on multiple demos for Tom and was a member of the band Mothers Milk which is what the band "Boston" was called up until mid recording process. Brads voice was seen as a key part of the Boston sound and as a result Brad was signed the same time as Tom was.
I remember when this album first came to the record stores in Boston. This young kid worked with his buddy at a downtown Boston record store and they got 10 copies of this new album.. He and his pal took a 5 min break.. smoked a joint and listened to the first side downstairs of the record store.. They were so blown away they put it on the turntable and played it on their outside speakers on the sidewalk. Those 10 copies sold out in less than 1 hour. They called and ordered 50 more for overnight delivery and the distributor said that will cost a lot more to fedex it overnight. They didn't care, they paid the shipping and ordered 50 more copies that sold out the next day by 3pm the day they came in....One of Rocks top 10 best albums and maybe the best created by one man, Tom Schultz who created the whole thing in his basement as a M.I.T. Masters Degree student...
"Nothing from Nothing" is a great song!!! That's one thing people do not understand about music from the '60s and '70s...we didn't listen to just one type of music. I listened to good music...no matter who put it out! I had everything from the Beatle's to Boston to America to The Temptations to Jimmy Hindrix to Led Zeppelin to The Jackson 5 to Elton John....and on and on. Between me and my 3 brother's we amassed over 500 LP's....and countless 45's.
Here's a fun fact. Band founder Tom Scholtz recorded, by his admission, 96% of the album by himself before bringing in Brad Delp to record the vocal tracks. Also, the only song on the album that was recorded in a professional studio, was 'Let me take you home tonight' written and sung by Brad Delp. It was recorded at CBS studios in Los Angeles, unlike the rest of the album which was recorded in the basement studio of Scholtz's Watertown, Massachusetts home, part of the greater Boston area. On a less happy note, Brad Delp, whose amazing vocals will always be associated with the Boston sound, passed away on March 9, 2007, when he took his own life via carbon monoxide poisoning, at his home in Atkinson, New Hampshire. But he will never really be gone. Because every time someone puts on a Boston album and cranks up the volume, his legacy Springs to life, and he is with us once again!
He should of did all of it with a band 1st , he just wanted more money . Peace of shit , greedy , crooked . Self centered Tom shcoltz . Good band but Tom was to greedy and wanted control . Only had 2 good albums after that went down the drain other than 3 maybe 4 songs on third stage . Finished. They were too good to stop there but that's what happened. Couldn't write any more good songs . What happen Tom???? Couldn't last that's what happened.
I played the hell out of this album when I got it. Never got to see Boston, did get to see Orion the Hunter with Barry Godreau singing lead and playing lead guitar. THEN I got to see Barry Godreau's Engine Room at the Tupelo in NH. He did the most popular of this LP and the next one. Plus some from Orion and RTZ. NEXT saw him with American All Star Vinyls. This included Skunk Baxter (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers), Mousey Thompson (James Brown) , Leroy Romans (The Wailers). And the singer, Danny Beissel singing his song Blush. It's on UA-cam. They were great.
Not quite. Tom did not play a single drum track on this record and the record is better off for this fact. Counting the two drummers who play on this record there is a total of 5 musicians who play at least one instrument track on this record. Brad wrote Let Me Take You Home and he co-wrote Smokin'
Hey scribe, did you notice the space ships in the album cover are actually guitars, this entire album rocks, you really need to check out more of it,you won't be disappointed.
When I listen to Boston I feel summertime.
I feel 17 again.
Nothing like some good ol' summertime lockdowns across the land.
That's a good way of feelin' it. Me too!...
Yep, open highway in open Corvete :)
what do you feel with 'summer breeze' then?
The 70s was a great time to be a teenager...... Mainly due to the music.
Michael Turlington everyone says that about every decade, starting in the 60’s. The Beatles made the concept of ‘soundtrack to my life’.
Michael Turlington see, she even mentions the Beatles. They are the Shakespeare of music...

Your reactions are great!! -- request you react to: 'Funk 48' by the James Gang; 'Hey You' by BTO; and 'Nothing From Nothing' by Billy Preston. :)
Since you're talking Billy Preston, Outa Space, classic instrumental song
"Its Almost Like Their Announcing A 'Royal Rock King' Coming Into The Room!"....HAH! That's A Good One!!
I was 10 years old when this came out. Loved it right away.
I won't say I am old, but I did watch the band America in concert on our junior high school stage.
yessss Annointing a ROYAL ROCK KING....IN SPACE
LIKE FLASH GORDON BUT FAR BETTER
Boston was one guy and a singer. Tom Scholtz played all the instruments and wrote all the songs. Brad Delp sang all the vocals
Not quite. Tom did not play a single drum track on this record and the record is better off for this fact. Counting the two drummers who play on this record there is a total of 5 musicians who play at least one instrument track on this record. Brad wrote Let Me Take You Home and he co-wrote Smokin'
Total perfection. The song and the album!
You know your so fun to watch doing your thing I really dig you. Thanks
Boston - Feelin Satisfied
I think this needs to be the new National anthem!
Smooth rock. They can jam but they have great voices as well. Boston....classic rock.
