The local Album Rock FM station was playing the whole album late at night about a week ahead of the albums release...and I recorded it on my cassette deck to play in my truck to and from college. The day the LP was released, I had to stand in line to get my copy. I played this album so much that I wore out two copies of the vinyl album. I have it...and all of Boston's other albums on CD...and keep them in my SUV now. I still get goosebumps when I listen to their albums!! Thanks for the great reaction... it's the same reaction I had nearly 45 years ago...I was in awe of their talent!
I'm an old dude. This is the sixth More Than a Feeling reaction I've watched this evening. Every stinking one of you give me the feeling I had when I listened at your age because you are feeling the same thing. I love it. Brings back such great feelings. And I'm happy for you!!
This song is a masterpiece!!! Nothing that's out today can even compare... the lead singers name is Brad Delp...he took his own life in 2007 at the age of 55 after fighting severe depression he gave up and it's so sad he was so incredibly talented but he left a lot of beautiful music for us to listen to!!!
this is as close to perfection as one can get, and Brad Delp's otherworldly vocals puts it in a league of its own. Back in the day this was a definite headphone record!
Tom Scholtz is the lead guitarist, and he is epic. His regular job was an engineer at Kodak, the film people. He composed the songs and produced and recorded the entire album in his basement studio that he put together HIMSELF! No auto-tune. No pitch correction. No computers, just Tom's talent with the instruments and the recording equipment, and Brad Delp, who is possibly the best rock vocalist of all time. I think the part that astounded you early in the song was that there was a high guitar note that brad took over with his voice and then the guitar took it up a notch and then Brad took it back and took it higher. At one point, "I close my EYES and she slips away. She slips awaayyyy-ayyy AYYYY" He goes right up to a D5 and you think that's all there is, and he goes another step up to an E5! The man had a FOUR octave range!
Your reaction was totally legit. When this album broke in 1976, it blew the roof off of the rock world. The compositional quality, performance, recording techniques, vocal harmonies, volume dynamics, guitar distortion, and energy in these songs was more than the average young person's mind could comprehend and contain. We had never heard anything like it. I was 21 at the time, and when their songs came on the radio, we'd get so excited we couldn't control ourselves! We would scream, and have to pull the car over! It was a mind-blowing experience...for real. I'll never forget it.
The guy who wrote the song also played ALL THE INSTRUMENTS, and also recorded himself playing the instruments (he might have mixed the audio too), and he even designed, engineered, and BUILT the audio equipment that modifies the sound of the guitars. This is why Boston has such a unique sound. They are the only band in the world with that equipment. Also, there is only one singer (Brad Delp) and he sings all parts.
One of the biggest debut albums ever. This was played to death in the 70s. With good reason. It is flawless. The production sounds current and its 45 yrs old.
Dude, that second where someone's talent leaves you in a place where all you can do is giggle (3:23). I saw you land there, I instantly felt where you were, and in that very second you became exactly the fan Boston wrote this for.
Absolutely! It is the best of one of the greatest. And he needs to know that virtually all the music is performed by ONE man, an engineer who invented new devices to create the sounds he wanted!
In the 70s there were 7 of us and our girlfriends and whenever Boston was in concert within 250 miles of us we went to the concerts. I saw them numerous times in Raleigh and Durham, NC, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta GA, Bristol TN and Nashville TN. Back then in the mid to late 70s there was no "white and black music. It was just (our) music. Our music then as now only had positive meanings. It's great to see all these podcasts finding out now what we have known for almost 50 years
Boston is my favorite band! Try these songs: Hitch a Ride, Smokin, Foreplay/Longtime, Peace of Mind, Something About You, Party, Feelin Satisfied, Don't Look Back, Amanda, Let me Take you home Tonight, Rock and Roll Band, Cool the Engines
@@dartbull24 Gonna have to disagree. "Cant'cha Say" is the best (and most underrated) song on Third Stage. That guitar solo is one of Boston's greatest. But more importantly, the whole album is underrated. Not quite as good as their first two, but it definitely deserves more love than it gets.
Boston is really just one person. Tom Scholz the lead guitarist wrote the entire album. Played every instrument on the album. Sang all the backup vocals on the album. Recorded the album in his basement with old equipment, equipment he bought and equipment he invented and made himself. He was also the sound engineer and the producer. His friend Brad Delp is the lead vocalist. Minus one song this album was finished before a record company ever heard it. Every song on this album is great. Tom invented the rock guitar pedal that allows for various sound changes to the range of music a guitar can change instantly instead of having to change guitar or tune it, etc. Now every musician that plays a stringed instrument uses the pedal system he invented. Great reaction. Thanks for sharing. chris
You can no longer see Boston live or at least this version since lead singer Brad Delp died. Sadly he had a very unique voice and singing style. Every single song on the first album is amazing. You can literally play it from start to finish, More than a Feeling is the first song on the album, followed by Peace of Mind then Foreplay/Longtime then Rock and Roll Band, and on and on. Chris
@@chrisbricky7331 , actually you can still see them live. I saw them about 5 years ago in Chattanooga, Tn at the Riverbend festival. New lead singer is good but he's not Brad. They use female backup singers to take over the note from the lead and take it higher but they blend very well. They still put on a show very much worth seeing
I think I showed Brad lots of love since I do not think seeing what passes for Boston right now is 'Boston' without Brad Delp. Just my opinion. I appreciate that Tom and the rest of the band, etc need work and everything. But for me, Boston is Tom and Brad's voice. Chris
Kansas "Dust in the Wind", Foreigner "Cold as Ice" Journey "Send her my love" Mr. Mister "Broken Wings" Michael McDonald "I keep forgettin'" Doobie Brothers "Listen to the Music" other great 70's and 80's songs

Don't forget the 70s too, haha, even Saturday Night Live TV in the 70s - best ever! And Ed Sullivan show, lots of great groups on there from the Beatles in the 60s onward!
"More Than a Feeling" is just the opening track of one of the best rock debut albums of all time. The entire album is worth listening to. And it's from 1976!! Bradley Delp (RIP) was one of the most beautiful lead singers!
You had the same reaction I did when I was 15 years old and heard them for the first time in 1976. Boston is just a level above every other band....ever. If I was limited to only one album to listen to for the rest of my life, this would be the one.
I remember exactly where I was, and what I was doing, when I heard certain songs for the first time, such as Billie Jean, and Iced Ice Baby. I don't even remember hearing this song for the first time, though I heard it many times. All I remember is that, I liked it.
Great appreciation my brother I am a 53 year old rocker Latino man and this song is a master piece for the melody with this hight notes and the way they arranged this song was awesome like many other songs in the 70s and 80s it blow our minds Pure Talent bro.❤🎸🎶🎵🎶🎵😄👌👌
When this was released in '76, it hit the airwaves like a tsunami. Everyone had to buy this Album & it was that much of a game changer to the music industry!
Saw one of their first concerts…barely had any people there…it was like somebody threw a party and Boston was the musical guest!!! Cant begin to say what a concert it was…one of the best I’ve ever seen and back then I was going to a concert every freaking month…awesome bands when I was growing up…this concert I believe I was like 17…1975-76?…45 YEARS AGO!!! Saw them 3 more times…never was as special as #1 but how could they be???? These memories are priceless!!
As a senior citizen, maybe you can now understand why my generation thinks that today's music is garbage, compared to our generation's music. We had fantastic bands that didn't have auto tune, or any of the other BS stuff that they have today. We had great groups, like The Righteous Brothers, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkle, Spanky and Our Gang, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Stylistics, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Donovan, Dylan, The Moody Blues, The Grass Roots, The Mamas and the Papas, Abba, Buffalo Springfield, Carly Simon, Carol King, and the list is endless. Every week, a group would release a new song that went to number one, and we all had transistor radios, and we would listen to all of this music. Today's generation has no idea of how great our music was....unless, like you, they go back and listen to it. I bought the Beatles Anthology many years ago, and my daughter asked if she could listen to it, so I played it for her. After listening to all of the songs on it, she asked me if she could have the two CDs, so I gave them to her and bought another set of them. You have just listened to how great music was back in the day, and nothing today can ever compare to that type of music. Our music didn't contain vulgar words, it was just pure music, and the melodies of our music transcends time, as you have noticed. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to listen to the music from my generation, and reacting to it. If more people would do that, they would reject the crap that is being put out these days, and demand the type of music that my generation experienced.
@Kahless I just listened to those three so called "artists" that you mentioned, and as I thought, it's all (c)rap music. That's NOT music, that's some idiot talking into a microphone. ...not to mention that they often use foul language, as if that makes them cool. Sorry, but if you think that your kind of music is music, then I feel sorry for you.
I say basically the same thing as often and as loudly as I can, in the hopes of rescuing some kids from the spiritual poison called rap and hip hop. It isn't even music but rather repetitious chants of boring, violent and vulgar GARBAGE! And then one rapper murders another one routinely! If that is what they think music should be about then they belong in prison! And if they murder ANYONE they should be executed! Period! This is what music corporations have foisted on kids with simpleton intellects. It is helping to destroy our civilization and turning out an ever larger and new generation of criminals. You will eventually become what you listen to. Really!
One man's garbage is another man's masterpiece. You should know that by now. And all of those "great" groups were influenced, or stole from even greater black groups, that really influences today's music, as well as yesterday's tunes. And most of that music, back in the day, was really garbage, but people got to know those songs because they were forced fed to listening audiences on a daily basis through radio, when that was all that was available to listen to. There are songs today, that would put a lot of older songs to shame, which are the ones you hear the most on all of these talent shows, being covered. Once in a while you'd hear an older song being covered, which is rare. So just stop it.
@@benx104 There was garbage back then. True. There are really good songs today. Also true. But today the garbage that is out there is pure evil garbage...back then, not so much. I hope no one ever claims that pure evil, filthy, Satanic garbage is a "masterpiece".
One of the best bands ever, was devastated when the lead singer committed suicide in 2007. Other than maybe Queen and Lynyrd Skynyrd (Freebird), your right.
Watching young black men rock the same rock music I rocked in high school warms my heart. I graduated in 1975 and I NEVER thought I would EVER see such a thing. Rock on my young brother...👍
Thanks for your reaction, NLT. It is so entertaining to watch younger generations react to our music from years ago. Listening to your comments/reactions reminds me of when we were younger and these bands and songs were fresh, new and abundant. We'd get with our friends or call them on the phone (that hung on the wall) and say, "Did you hear that really cool song that ______ just released? (and a thousand names of bands/recording artists could go in there) but we'd be so excited to share our new discovery. Today, after 30-50 years have passed, we still listen and remember all of the head boppin' and dancing.... we just do it from a comfortable chair now. Take care and be well. Peace.
One of my favourite bands to come out of the seventies love your reaction you really got into the song and the lyrics When we 1st heard this band in the seventies 76 to be exact they blew us away and then here comes frampton comes alive a few months later Truly one of the greatest summers I remember for music Boston had such a unique sound that nobody was ever able to copy two lead guitar players 2 drummers great lyrics Great reaction glad you found them give Kansas a shot the wall or im only saying or He knew..so many to name Keep spreading the music to the masses..
This is one of the songs I jammed to learning to play drums when it came out. 48 years later it is still one of my top 5 songs. PLUS, it came out at time when I was with my first true love and this song takes me back to the best of times.
I call Boston guitar overload:) This is why everyone loves them....great happy upbeat music;;;Love me some Boston! Saw them at the Texas Jam back in the day...
One of the best, used this when setting up my stereo. His vocal range is perfect. Loved this full blast going down the highway or after a joint. I'm in Canada where it's legal, thank God. Bloody talented group. ......"more than a feeling "....right on.
Best concert ever! Tom Scholtz it a master of the guitar and keys. He recorded all the guitar parts in his basement. Best feel good music! Love the smile! Check out Holly Ann and Amanda by Boston.
You're right--Boston is upbeat, positive music and so are their lyrics. They deal with everyday life in a way that anyone can relate to, but they are uplifting, and anytime you're in a bad mood, put on a Boston record, because they are like sunshine on a cloudy day
Boston is old school, my man. We lost the lead singer Brad Delp to suicide in 2007__a very sad day for me. Anyway, watching you fall in love with Boston I absolutely HAVE TO subscribe to your channel. Thanks.
You start your day with music. Up plays that song from way back when... That summer you remember, the friends the girl as she walked away. The song takes you back to that place n time that's more than feeling. Reliving the moment in time the Song that takes you there.💖💖💖 I to hide n my music and remember when and where I was. My favorite place. 🎶

Omgosh rocking this in the school parking lot! Oh yeah!
Classic rock music is the best. Hands down!
All their songs are this great too. That’s the crazy thing. Nothing but absolute BANGERS.
I love the way you react to the bands we grew up with, I miss this music, thanks for being a time machine.
One of the very best songs in history.❤️
The true meaning of 'feel-good' music. I call listening to Boston a Vibrational Tune-Up!
One of the best bands ever, was devastated when the lead singer committed suicide in 2007. Other than maybe Queen and Lynyrd Skynyrd (Freebird), your right.
I love this song
Peace.
OK, I'm pretty sure I can say this band is lit.And I mean that in the most honest way. This band is lit, I don't care what generation you are.
I love seeing younger generations enjoying the music I grew up listening to! And I still listen to Boston!
I grew up with all this....Boston has always been at the top of my favorite groups.
I think what defines them is that while they are pretty hard rock, they are also super-melodic.
Love that point.🙂💕👍
I'm sitting here "don't pause it! don't pause it!" CRAP he paused it!
You are a very intelligent and handsome young man. I am impressed that you have a open mind to accept other kinds of music. 😊
It’s the best sensory overload ever
Boston - Peace of mind or Smokin. Really I think the best one is Foreplay/ Long-time
This debut album was "every track went gold" and still the number one selling debut album of all time!
Not anymore.
I call Boston guitar overload:) This is why everyone loves them....great happy upbeat music;;;Love me some Boston! Saw them at the Texas Jam back in the day...
Ha ha ha, welcome to Boston. You can check out, but can never leave anymore. This is fraking Boston!❤❤❤❤
One of the best, used this when setting up my stereo. His vocal range is perfect. Loved this full blast going down the highway or after a joint. I'm in Canada where it's legal, thank God. Bloody talented group. ......"more than a feeling "....right on.
Lol it's also completely legal for well over 100 million Americans - which absolutely dwarfs the number of Canadians it's legal for.
Over and over and over....
Best concert ever! Tom Scholtz it a master of the guitar and keys. He recorded all the guitar parts in his basement. Best feel good music! Love the smile! Check out Holly Ann and Amanda by Boston.
I love Third Play❤️ one of my top favorite albums!!!
You're right--Boston is upbeat, positive music and so are their lyrics. They deal with everyday life in a way that anyone can relate to, but they are uplifting, and anytime you're in a bad mood, put on a Boston record, because they are like sunshine on a cloudy day
Try the Moody Blues, Nights in White Satin.
My mum (86yo) loves that song, and we’ve seen Moody Blues in concert twice.
agresticumbra
it’s a good one for sure.
EVERYTHING the Moody Blues. You'll jam, and you'll cry. From "Nights in White Satin", to "I'm Just a Dinger in a Rock and Roll Band"
Boston is old school, my man. We lost the lead singer Brad Delp to suicide in 2007__a very sad day for me.
Anyway, watching you fall in love with Boston I absolutely HAVE TO subscribe to your channel. Thanks.
My high school days 🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Iconic 70s rocker. Maybe the most iconic. Every young mans car carried this cassette...
RIP Brad Delp. Lead singer of BOSTON. Nobody has a voice like he did. Nice video . Mad love my brother
One of the greatest songs of all time
You start your day with music. Up plays that song from way back when... That summer you remember, the friends the girl as she walked away. The song takes you back to that place n time that's more than feeling. Reliving the moment in time the Song that takes you there.💖💖💖 I to hide n my music and remember when and where I was. My favorite place. 🎶
when this song comes on... I have an involuntary reaction to turn up the volume! I can't hit those high notes, but I sure as hell try.
every song on this album is good, but you should do hitch a ride
Legit one of the only albums in my library that is front to back bangers. Legendary.
All of Boston’s songs are good!! I have seen them live... incredible!
I've seen them live, best concert I've ever been to. Absolutely love Boston and loved this reaction.
Beautiful song , great voice RIP. The album cover even rocks , looks like UFOs , but it's actually guitar's ,
Great job. Awesome Group. RIP Brad Delp. We miss you brother.
If you notice, the ufo on the album cover is a guitar.
UFO? I don't see Phil on that cover.
@@MrRyan2112 Oh a MOOG sighting
I have this album & never noticed that! Lol!
Every song on this album is a BANGER! One of the greatest albums ever made.
Well said.
Boston are/were flyers in the world of upbeat hard rock. They're part of my present, my past, and for however long I live!
Thank you for reacting to this tune! Boston forever!!
Over 40 years of listening to this song. It is timeless!
