San Diego, California - This week I went out in search of the best dumpling restaurants in San Diego, and Convoy Street in particular.
If you want to find some fun things to do in San Diego, I highly recommend going over to Convoy Street and discovering some of the amazing international restaurants!
We went to four locations to try dumplings in San Diego, and these were all recommended by local followers on Instagram and Facebook!
The highlight for me was most definitely Din Tai Fung at the UTC Mall. They make the dumplings fresh and their attention to detail is incredible.

Must try at jasmine: steam pork bun, Chinese Broccoli, sticky rice in a bowl, and shrimp shu mai. Soooo good!!
Din Tai Fung is my favorite for dumplings. Everything I've had there was delicious (seriously!) and those chocolate dumplings are pure heaven!
Definitely going to try the other establishments featured too!

Years ago, I read a detective novel set in Taipei. The main character had a meal at the Din Tai Fung there, and described the food in detail. I was so jealous. Never imagined two of those restaurants would eventually open close to me, here in Los Angeles. I now eat at one of them regularly. There's some other wonderful dim sum houses close to where I live. We have one of the biggest Chinese American communities in the U.S. nearby (in the San Gabriel Valley), which brings me great joy.

Great video with some good spots. Next time you are on Convoy check out "Tasty Noodle House." For me they make the best dumplings in San Diego and are so much better than Don Tai Fung.

Din Tai Fung is a favorite of mine…it was the first restaurant I dined-in at after the initial COVID lockdown lifted. Thanks for the video - now I have some other dumpling places to try.

Yooo you did a dumpling tour of SD and you never went to Dumplings N more in Hillcrest! Super authentic dumps, and it's a family run operation. Def check it out, get the soup dumps and the spicy wontons.

Yes I live in San Diego and the majority of restaurants on Convoy are Korean but you will find a little of everything.

Din tai fung is by far the best. Don’t even waste your time at the others.
You should visit BOGS' KITCHEN, a Filipino Food Truck at the US Army base in Tacoma Washington.
I've been to DTF in Hong Kong and Taiwan which were very good. I went to one one Seattle late last year and the Xiao Long Bao was a disappointment in comparison.
Dumpling inn was the size of my living room when I first moved to SD. Great to see them blown up!

I was in Japan in 2019 and had soup dumplings for the first time. It has been so hard to find a restaurant that makes soup dumplings. I definitely will be checking out some of these restaurants
Used to like Dumpling Inn, but one time I took my family of 8 from Escondido, 45 minutes before closing and they wouldn't seat us. We expressed how far we drove and the owner still turned us away. Never again.
Is dumplings gluten free? I’ve craved them but I’m intolerant 😔
There are dumplings that use rice flour. Plus there are many dim sum items that use no wheat. Many Asian supermarkets have frozen dumplings and they list the ingredients in the package
I really like the transitional camera work from restaurant to restaurant.
Of course the food is a big attraction. Wish I could have been there to sample it all.
