In my search for the best tacos in San Diego, California I took all of your comments from the "5 Must-Try Tacos in San Diego" video and set out on a new mission! My goal was to find the best birria tacos in San Diego.
I started at the famous Ed Fernandez Restaurant for incredible Birria de Res, served up a variety of ways. From there, it was off to Birrieria y Menuderia Guadalajara in Chula Vista for Birria de Chivo. Then it was off to Birrieria Don Rafa for more Birria de Chivo tacos (right next to Tacos el Gordo) in Chula Vista. Our fourth and final stop was 664 TJ Birrieria for Birria de Res.
It was a mouthwatering, over-eating, wonderful day of trying the best birria tacos in San Diego, and if you ever come visit, or you live here - this is one of the best things to do in San Diego!

I made you a SAN DIEGO TACO MAP: bit.ly/SanDiego-Taco-Map 👈 I added all the places from this video, the first San Diego taco episode (@), and many of your recommendations all to one map so you can easily find the best tacos in San Diego! 🌮
What else would you like to see from San Diego? I would love more recommendations on videos you would like to see!! 🙏
As always, if you like the video, give that "👍" a click and come say hi on Instagram @TravelDeeper 😃
Thank you for the Taco Map! This is awesome. I’m trying to figure out how to save it lol I live in San Diego and I want to go to all these places 😀
Hey bro let me know when you want to go to the real local birra spots you hit the Yelp once !! I’m from San Diego too
Las Cuatro Milpas is the best!!
You gotta try Yesenia's Mexican Food on El Cajon Blvd in North Park!
You totally missed the BEST Birria in Chula Vista! It’s called El Chinito Jr. It’s a taco truck and it’s parked on the corner of H St and Broadway. About a block north of Don Rafa. Order the Quesa Taco Birria. Very addicting. And their Consome is on point. It’s better than Fernandez.
For those who aren’t from San Diego, yeah...we do have taco shops on damn near every corner. Best Mexican food in the country hands down
Not on the continent though.
Santa Ana in Orange County and LA have way better taco shops then San Diego by far.
Lived and tried basically every taco shop in Santa Ana for 8 years. Definitely does not compare to SD taco shops. Lol
And LA? Not even close
@@720Horsepower 🤣 Insane comment. There’s a reason you see one on damn near every corner in SD. Competition builds quality. You can find good Mexican food in LA. But you have to search for it. Down here it’s everywhere you go. And Santa Ana? lol Please..
@@rashedkarram8785 Guadalajara’s El Galla Giro El Metate El Toro Los Antojitos what taco shops are good in San Diego exactly?
I live here in San Diego in the Chula Vista area and how have I never heard of any of these places. I now have a few new places to hit up. 🌮🌮🌮 thank you 🌮🌮🌮
I am very happy to help Maryl! 😃 Chula Vista has some incredible hidden gems of deliciousness!
I live in Chula too....these birria tacos are the BUSINESS!!!
Go to Don Rafa next to Tacos El Gordo! Sooo good
You’ve been missing ma’am
I live in Escondido
You absolutely nailed this! Source: I live in San Diego and the wife is Mexican.
I recently moved to La Jolla after living in Nestor for 6 years and there’s nothing more I miss than coming here on a Sunday morning to dine in pre-covid. Ed (the owner) welcomed everyone through his doors and made you feel at home. He would greet everybody and shake their hands and always had a smile on his face. Times were more simple then... I highly encourage everyone to support this family business. Location: right off the 5 south Coronado Ave exit right behind the shell gas station and fire station(you turn in where there’s a liquor store and tire shop straight after the light off the exit.) Time flies on the freeway so don’t even worry about the drive since it’s so convenient.
Warning⚠️ It gets busy so go early and I suggest to call in... it’s hard to get through sometimes since they get so many calls so just keep calling if the line is busy. If you go, trust me, you’ll be back for more!
You know, Len, that the location is not literally right off the five, it is actually right off the 5.
@@gregoriosmith6994 thank you stranger
Ive gone to that tire shop a few times but never imagined there was a restaurant next door. I honestly thought it was offices and Ive lived in IB for 6 years now.
One of the best things about living in San Diego: my house is about 2 miles due east of Ed Fernandez, and there are 6-7 taco shops in between, including a Tacos El Gordo.
Have you tried pizzaria el jefe in chula vista?
Tacos le Gordo is played out. We have 2 locations that I know of here In Las Vegas. The best places to eat tacos IMO are houses in the hood that run an illegal restaurant out of their living room. No menu or anything you just gotta know what to order lol.
For some reason I enjoy watching Mr San Diego enjoy the big bite as he devours the tacos. It is clear this man is living his dream.
I just consumed the weight of my leg in tacos de birria.
After watching this video, couldn’t stop thinking about it.
It’s my birthday week so splurged. 20 min drive, called it in. The wait time was 15 mins.
They were friendly, and very efficient. The food was so rediculously good. Just like in video everything dipped in consommé. The hot sauce will grow hair on your chest(ladies).
Great video.
When he said "I wasn't looking forward to a beer at 10:30am in the morning....but" hahahah micheladas! An excuse to start drinking at breakfast 💯🤷♂️
I have been traveling the world together with my partner for over 6 and a half years now and one of the things we love the most is the freedom that travel gives us.
Today,we don't travel via the pandemic but we had the same feelings when we saw your video.......just thank you!!!!!!
It has definitely been a difficult and testing time for all of us in this industry (and across the world), but I do see light at the end of this tunnel! 🙏
@@GarethLeonard we hope to go out from this tunnel soon my friend!!!!
A big thank you brother from a San Diegan who grew up going to these places, proud to see em hit the Tube 🙏🏽🦾🙌🏽🈵🚀
One word of advise when eating a juicy taco: hold it at a slight angle with one hand as you're about to take a bite and with the other, hold your plate right underneath, this so you don't drip the juices all over your hand and/or clothing. Simple trick.
HA! Definitely need to take some ques from the old gentleman in the white vaquero get-up. He is brave.
Dude Fernández is one of my favorite spots it made me so happy you were able to capture the beauty of their birria
I was so happy it lived up to all the hype!! 🙏
Its not even good breh 🤣
What’s the address to this place? I can’t seem to find it... thank you!

I appreciate it man! Honestly, it was so good!

Also from around here 10+ years still the best spot just always packed! Gotta wait a bit sometimes
@@louig845 fuck yeah but worth it I went 2 days ago fuck man it never gets old lmao
@@damian3564 yeah of course, def worth it
Ed's place is hands down best birria in San Diego. A hidden gem.
I'm literally crying right now... so many emotions, I miss that food so much. Birria is good all year round. But best on a cold winter day...
You're killing me here !! I loved this video, we just don"t get good authentic Mexican food here. Loved it forever
Haha, I appreciate it Derek! Hopefully I can start shipping tacos soon 😂
Its making my mouth water just by watching it.
michelada con clamato is a beer of your choice infused with clamato juice, which is basically tomato juice with some type of spices added. on the top edges of the plastic cup, there is this thick mix of chiles(dried peppers) and probably also tamarind pulp(this is a fruit that is super common in México). Basically, this pulp and the chile mix tastes like a chewy candy. I like to take a drink and eat a little bit of the chewy tamarind with chile and it tastes incredible, especially if it's hot out. It will be easy to drink the equivalence of a caguama(just under 1 liter of beer).
Respect for crushing that many birria tacos in a day lol
It's a tough job but somebody has to do it! 😂
I just finished watching the more than 200 videos you have available for your fans to view and I noticed this latest one. You seem to always come up with great subject matter. Loved this one. Keep it up 👍 👍👍👍
I truly appreciate that Craig! Thank you for following along 🙏
I lived on Highland, when I first moved to National City, by Cafe La Maze, now it’s our daughters house. We’re in Oregon now, but I have a big list of places to eat. I’m glad I found your videos!
I live so close to that place you have convinced me. I love birria.
Born and Raised in San Diego and I have never tried those places and my daughter loves Birria so I will have to take her to these places. Thank you so much for doing this video! Can you please do filipino food in San Diego? ❤️❤️❤️
thank you for capturing a little of the Hispanic/Mexican culture and being so appreciative of it
hispanic mexican culture what do you mean?
It's Mexican culture only
Those looked like some of the tastiest and messiest Tacos
I've ever seen . Beautiful!
I’ll be sure to check these out next time I am in San Diego. Watching your face so happy while eating these says it all !!! 😋
I'm a simple man who enjoys the simple pleasure in life 😂
The only Mexican restos that I know here are Taco el gordo, Taco lounge, and Lolita's until I saw this, will definitely try. Thanks.
Man you read my mind, I was looking for a great taco d birria spot here in SD without having to go to TJ! That was awesome!
Dude, your travel vlogs are really FUN...now, you make EATING as FUN too.
I appreciate that! It's hard not to have fun when you're doing this "work" all day! 😃
My 5 must try outside the norm: 1.Smoked Tuna Tostada / TJ Oyster in Bonita. 2. Grandma's Taco de Fideo (noodle taco) Romescos in Bonita / 3. Octopus and Lamb chorizoTaco at Cruze +241 in Chula Vista. 4. The Bulgogi Taco from the Craft Taco Truck travels through San Diego various locations 5. RIP to his car's hood that now has taco juices and hot sauce all over it lol
Birria is the best invention since sliced bread.

Yay! Im from Chula Vista and u hit the 2 locations for for birria de res that we love! Great video ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great birria restaurants you ate at. My favorite is Don Rafa's because of its flavor and consistency. Thank you very much for the videos!
Wow. You can eat! Thanks for these videos. I’m from SD but have lived in NY for 9 years. I needed a fresh-up. I grew up eating birria de chino but like you said, it was a “special occasion” thing. Can’t wait to visit.
Man, You're so lucky eating those tacos so authentic! I want to go try them for my next road trip from Arizona. Thanks for the vid!
Absolutely! I would think you have some pretty decent tacos in Arizona, no?
@@GarethLeonard yah we do, my favorite place is El Pueblo Cafe at Litchfield Park - I always order shredded beef tacos
Dang. I live in Chula Vista and learned a lot from this video. Wish I could have tagged along.
Chula Vista is the hot spot for great tacos! You are in the perfect location! 🌮
Grew up in San Diego and Chula Vista. Spent my first 40 years there and then moved to the east coast a few years ago, I miss nothing more than my favorite taco shops. I had a favorite shop for whatever i was in the mood for at the time. Each shop has a best dish and i would try them all. ;)
I live around the area and didn’t know about these places. I will definitely try them out. Thanks!!!
ed Fernandez is One of the Best In SD, if not the Best. Sunday 7 am ritual for me to pickup for my fam. Love they are getting the credit !

Try “Cantina Mayahuel” On Tuesdays and Fridays, Cantina Mayahuel serves perfectly authentic mole.
And my favorite “City tacos” has flavor AND ambiance!!!
The ED Fernández stop is epic!!
Here is another place you should try out! I discovered them last summer and I ate there 3 times in one week! It's called Taqueria el Cino on Palm ave. I try to mix it up and order different stuff each time, but I always come back to the adobada tacos! Trust me, you will love it!
They look good thanks for showing I can see their good

You would love my cousin's Birria. Our family oriented in Jalisco and the way my relatives cook is unbelievable 😊🥰
Birrieria Ay Jalisco in Escondido is absolutely legit as well.. Went in a few weeks back and it was completely packed.. I was the only non-mexican in the place..
Birrieria La Loteria for the win if you are in San Diego. It is by far the best birria truck in the town. They are also opening a restaurant in IB early next year (2024).
I miss so much san diego and all the delicious Mexican food
I can't wait to stop in Ed's for some of those tacos. My mouth is watering watching this. lol
