Best cider in San Diego is directly across the street from Pomegranate. But... the pelmeni, borscht, and stroganoff... mmmmmm. I ate here 3 times in one week recently.
Gareth! You have to go to Georgia! 🇬🇪!!! This is one of the most hospitable Country in Caucasus! They are the real Kings of food wine and music!!! The Country itself os just amazing!!!! I’m Russian, but Georgia is a real must go place!!!!
I totally agree with you. To be honest, of all the countries I visited, Georgia is my most favorite. I love everything from this country. Foods, wines and people are the best. I am from the Philippines by the way and planning to go there again thjs end of May.
Georgian cuisine is the absolute winner: khachapuri is Georgian pizza, khinkali is Georgian xiao long bao, Gareth called the chakapuli broth "a best ramen broth ever". Add the gorgeous nature, awesome hospitable people, wine and wildest techno parties. Ah, what a country.
Hachapuri is an Abkhaz/Adyghe dish, hinkali were stolen from Armenians/Persians, et cetera. The Georgians don't have anything of their own except delusions about their greatness.

Italians didn't invent wine, cheese and even pasta, but does this makes anything listed above bad if made by Italians? I don't think so. The fact that Georgians gathered all those recipes from other cultures is fascinating by itself
@@Mafiabacon875 there just as many Russian dishes as there are Georgian ones. Khinkali, aubergine rolls, shashlik and khachapuri are Georgian. Pelmeni, medovik, boeuf Stroganoff and lard with bread are Russian.
Well, I personally wouldn't say that Georgian cuisine is underrated. Georgia is just a small post-soviet country, but their cuisine is a worldwide known thing.

I went to a russian community in Brighton Beach in NYC before. It was my first time going into a Russian restaurant..and it never dissapoint.. their food is not bland like other european countries..it was so tasty and you can taste the spices..i was amazed
I have been wanting to try authentic Russian Food for a while. thanks to this I ordered from Pomegranate last night the beef stroganoff and the Adjaruli are to die for will defiantly order again
As a Georgian, I adore Khinkali (ხინკალი), Acharuli khachapuri (აჭარული ხაჭაპური), Mtsvadi (მწვადი) and Nigvziani (ნიგვზიანი), they're really delicious🙈🍽 I also like our neighbor's, Russia's Pelmeni and Borscht💖 Drinking Georgian wine from the horn was the best ending🍷🧡🇬🇪 What I lacked in this video is tasty Georgian Satsivi (საცივი)🥣😍

They were NOT created after the soviet union collapsed lol If you were born in the USSR you should know that. Cool people, cool reaction, hospitable guys from the restaurant ) That's just a little bit of beef stroganoff did not hit, it is still served with mashed potatoes in the classic recipe. And so almost everything that I saw is classic Russian and Georgian cuisine )) Very tasty!
@@gkankava Russian/Georgian cuisine is a correct term, because Georgia has been a part of Russia for more than 200 years, and many Georgian dishes immigrated into Russian (or Soviet) overall cuisine. If you say only Georgian or only Russian cuisine it is also correct, but Russian/Georgian is a real thing, especially in the US.

I like the reaction to a common Russian / Ukrainian / Georgian food 😄 I think we share our cultures through food diversity. Georgian food - feast all around, savory, diverse and even sparkling 😄 Russian food - simple from the outside, but it opens to you from the first try, Ukrainian food - rich, savory, beautiful and you won’t forget it after you first bite. It’s like a first sex 😄😄😄
I LOVE LOVE this restaurant. I used to go for my birthday every year. I miss it so much. I loved everything there. I remembered we had this salad vegetable platter and kebab was just out of this world. Never had anything like it.
I always cook beef stroganoff for my kids..I definitely want to try Medovik...that would be an awesome experience if ever. Enjoy your adventure with food Gareth,stay safe!
Oh my god, this same owner used to have a place called Kafe Sobaka in Golden Hill, it was one of my absolute favorite restaurants!! I was so sad when they closed it! 😭😭 The last time I checked they didn't have Satsivi or the mushroom piroshkis on the menu at Pomegranate, I will have to visit so I can beg them to add them! In the meantime, every single thing you ate looked amazing so I'll just have to keep eating Khachapuri and Borscht and Stroganoff and Chakapuli until they relent 😁
Restaurant is very good and this is near my home. Russian food is very good as my former boyfriend is from Moscow. I cannot wait to go here soon. Thank you Garrett, this was awesome.

Of course its your right which terms you prefer to use but this cannot change the fact that you have problems with the understanding of the meaning of the terms you are employing. I like the reaction to a common Russian / Ukrainian / Georgian food 😄 I think we share our cultures through food diversity. Georgian food - feast all around, savory, diverse and even sparkling 😄 Russian food - simple from the outside, but it opens to you from the first try, Ukrainian food - rich, savory, beautiful and you won’t forget it after you first bite. It’s like a first sex 😄😄😄

I LOVE LOVE this restaurant. I used to go for my birthday every year. I miss it so much. I loved everything there. I remembered we had this salad vegetable platter and kebab was just out of this world. Never had anything like it.

Oh my god, this same owner used to have a place called Kafe Sobaka in Golden Hill, it was one of my absolute favorite restaurants!! I was so sad when they closed it! 😭😭 The last time I checked they didn't have Satsivi or the mushroom piroshkis on the menu at Pomegranate, I will have to visit so I can beg them to add them! In the meantime, every single thing you ate looked amazing so I'll just have to keep eating Khachapuri and Borscht and Stroganoff and Chakapuli until they relent 😁

Right when I saw your video title, I automatically thought "Pomengrante!" I am so glad you covered this restaurant; they do have some of the best cuisines/dishes and it is one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego as well.

I loved how you prefaced this episode with politics come and go but good food last forever. I admire how honest the chef is with the origins of the cuisine Instead of saying everything is Russian. In a way he paying respect to all the surrounding cultures regardless of history because at the end of the day it’s all about, like you said, the good food!
