I loved when Casey Biggs was talking about when he auditioned for the part, and he asked "What, am I just some guy who stands at a console behind Gul Dukat?", and one of the writers said "Oh no! We have plans for this guy!". And they did indeed!
You'd think that was just ad lib by the actor from one of the takes (as he sounded a bit too human) but because it was such a perfect delivery the director just decided to use it.

Instead of being an equal ally they found themselves being more & more controlled by The Founders to be sacrificed for its cause (The Founders hate solids as they have godlike complex & want to be worship + in control of them). Having the genetically engineered slaves like the Weyuons there to oversee & deal with the Cardasians by The Founders was a slap to the face.
It took an evil like Weyoun to turn Damar into a hero. Under Dukat's rule Damar was just under the impression that his loyalty served his country however evil it may be. Even killing Dukat's daughter was for Cardassia. Weyoun broke his spirit so hard his conscience returned. 😄

Brainwashing suggests a prior context when they didn't think the Founders were gods which was never the case for the clones.

Underrated? It was the crescendo of the entire franchise. For one, it was better than most other series because it wasn't serialized. That includes TOS, TNG, and VOY. It was the only one where each episode had meaning and continuity in all following episodes.

In that first episode (return to grace) with him and Dukat on the bird of prey, they basically told the crew to shoot Damar as if he was a main character. They told the actor something like 'don't worry, we have big plans for you'

What a great actor Casey Biggs! (Damar) He playes all the different nuances of the character all at once. I wouldn´t be suprised if the producers decided to make his originally small role grow more and more important, merely because they saw how much efford he put into it.
No they actually hired him with the bigger role in mind because they knew he was capable of it - otherwise they would have hired a nobody to stand next to Dukat in the first episode holding a 24th century version of a clipboard.
Random trivia fact I read online. The Kanar that Damar is drinking is maple syrup. The production set didn’t think the actor would drink it in a gulp, but he did, and of course, there were a few takes lol.
Its been so many years I couldn't tell you where, but I seem to remember reading that it was intentional, and that the look of the Breen was directly inspired by Leia's diguise as Bosch.
thats how i have always felt. i always wondered if lucas suggested they do that and even encouraged it as a bit of mutual love for sci fi series. He was running ILM back then and they did some of the special effects i believe for space stuff.

Damar arc was really nice to watch. His role is so insignificant at the beginning of the show and his character evolution was really interesting in these 2 last seasons.
It was obvious that Damar always hated Weyoun. I always thought Damar's disenchantment began when Septimus 3 fell to the Klingons, with over half a million Cardassian dead, and then 'territorial concessions of a few minor planets' to the Breen added to the hatred. But when Damar had to give reports (and probably take orders from) Thot Gor, a Breen, while in Central Command, the heart of the Cardassian military, that was probably the moment Damar began to think of rebellion.
