hey guys, on a roll. this one is a little hard to watch, one of the final performances of his career; but arguably one of his finest. there is something incredibly inspiring yet so sad about this one, you will both get it. the song selected to end the final scene in the biopic, where the real ep comes on screen (epic ending). hold on tight - and remember this is just 8 years after trying to get to you. ps elvis, neil diamond, johnny cash - wow, you guys will be starting a folk music bank soon haha
Elvis was so sick during this performance, yet he still gave it his all. His body was worn completely out, but that beautiful spirit, and voice never did!! God knows how much a person can take, so it was time to rest. REST in peace, Elvis!!

@Art Antipop 100% agreed. Just setting the record straight as the same mistake gets repeated even in the best of productions most notably with George Klein's voiceover "just six weeks prior to his death".
Think this song was first recorded by the Righteous Brothers. Not an easy song to sing given the subtle chord changes. Dad to hear him slipping a bit in his banter, yet he still had that sense of self deprecation via his good humor and sincerety. His ego was grounded. I was 12 yrs old when I got lucky to see him in Portland Oregon Nov 26, 1976. Even at that tender age, being a child fan could definitely see, hear and feel the divide of how great he'd always been, nearly a shadow by comparison. Yet...by any other standard save for him and him alone, had the former Elvis had never been experienced at all - he'd have blown doors and roofs off of us. At mid show, JD Summer and band would do their usual 15 mins of performance so Elvis could get a break. We were directly behind the stage in the oval coluseum with clear view of the show dead middle behind his center stage.. He often turned around and performed each song in part to those of us behind and there were comp speakers so no sound diminished. He walked back toward us in the darkness and sat 20 feet directly below on a folding chair, crossed his legs and drank punch in the tight rounded corner where the place essentially splits the 2 sides of seats. My friend and I kept yelling down and quickly realized to wait for one of those couple second silent spots. It worked. He first looked around then up. We were literally on top his head.could've dropped a coin literally on it. He waved up then stood and turned around(boy do I wish to God I'd had a camera for that one). He in turn waited a couple attempts for that quiet moment, said something like, "Hi boys" with a genuine smile and wave with his punch and something else that drowned by noise. Guessing like, "hope yer enjoying or having fun" and "thank you", turned and sat down. When it was time for him to go out, if he didn't turn again and wave a half turn😮...it was then I changed my 'meh' of the show to incredible. It wasn't the performance rating change...it was him, genuine, attentive and warm taking a little extra...for us 2 12 year old fans. God bless him. The King 👑 100% true story. Hell it's not hard to believe by any fan. That was way he was🤓👍. 9 mo's later, I'll never forget it. Blown away he'd died😥

I’m crying my eyes out. I really feel like fame destroyed Elvis. Between the loneliness and isolation and the yes men and women he was surrounded by he didn’t stand a chance.
He lived it, it's what he did, 30 movies and 113 top 40 hits in 20 years...he defined the term "better to Burn out than to fade away" don't believe he did drugs for recreation but was assistance getting so much done...it eventually cought up with him bless his beautiful soul 🥺

Amphetamines before every show, just to get him on the stage, he was a full blown drug addict at the end, whether prescription or street, huge amounts including neat morphine. It's a miracle he lived so long. He had many doctors, Dr Nick was with him when touring, if one Dr wouldn't subscribe he went to another.

Yes Kim his FAME and the drugs to cope with it killed him in the end, he was becoming a recluse.
Parker was his downfall, the yes men were the only ones he trusted and felt relaxed with, they did try to get him to stop taking the drugs but they were just threatened with being outcast, no one said NO to Elvis, the drugs changed him.
Amphetamines were prescribed for him when he was in the army to keep him awake while on guard duty, that was the beginning, he liked the feeling and did take for recreation until he was addicted.
All his ailments were caused by the addiction except the glaucoma, have you ever seen a healthy drug addict, his last 2 years he was hospitalised under the guise of exhaustion 6 times, he left hospital and immediately started taking them again, no rehab clinics then.
Elvis breaks my heart!! The people around him destroyed him! He was used by so many. He was the King, and there’s no one like him!

He was really struggling here, you can hear his laboured breathing when he talks, but he was still giving his all and sang so beautifully. It was a true-love relationship with his fans, he loved us and we love him.
He died 6 weeks after this performance, he never lost his voice or his sense of humor!

Exactly what I tell people, most of the clips start with Elvis already at the piano, starting to sing, don't get a full sense about this performance. Elvis was mumbling, slurring, stuttered, he had some serious downers to be this way. So you think when you hear him slurring, you think omg, this isn't Elvis, however then he starts playing and singing, it was a totally different Elvis, hitting notes perfectly, his face lit back up, his eyes were full of life. You think this isn't the same person from 5 minutes ago. This is haunting but yet love it. What I really loved was near the end when says "God I need your love" you could have heard a pin drop, no sounds. That just shows the power and charisma, it's just Elvis
Although his voice stays amazing, when I watch Elvis perform in his later years, I always thought he looked like a man who was ill, not just on drugs. I am from a medical family, and my dad, a doctor, always thought the same thing. He would comment that Elvis looked like he was on cortisone (which I have recently found out he was for his lungs). You have to watch the video, or read the book, Elvis: destined to die young by Sally Hoedel. She is a professional journalist and a lifetime Elvis fan who always questioned why did Elvis, his mom, and her two brothers, have similar deaths and health issues. She did extensive research into Elvis's family health history and found out that his mother's parents were 1st cousins who married, and as a result, passed on several genetic health issues to Gladys, her two brothers, and Elvis. Elvis suffered from young boy of insomnia, and bowel issues. We now would be able to diagnose that as Hirschsprung's disease (congenital megacolon) causing terrible constipation and abdominal pain. Sally's research clearly documents that Elvis, his maternal grandmother, and his mother all had an autoimmune disorder that affected their liver and lungs. Autoimmune diseases are only recently better understood. However, due to the fact that Elvis grew up really below the poverty line for years, they had no access to medical care. In the early 1970s, Elvis's doctor did try to understand why a man of his age would have so many health issues, but the tests that would have discovered his illness were not developed. There were no CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds, etc. Therefore, they threw the drugs they had available at his symptoms, without really treating the underlying disease. It was only in his autopsy report that they found out he suffered from an auto-immune inflammatory process. Did he take prescription drugs, Yes; but, I think, unlike an addict who takes drugs to escape life, Elvis was taking them for real medical ailments that neither he, nor his family, entourage, or doctors totally understood, and that he was trying to figure out how to survive and continue to be Elvis.
Sally states in her book: "There are eleven main systems in the human body and Elvis endured disorder/disease in nine of them. His heart (circulatory system), his lungs (respiratory system), and his bowels (digestive/excretory systems) required medication. Insomnia affected his nervous system. The adrenal gland failure and resulting low testosterone are both issues of the endocrine system. His immune system was compromised. His urinary system was not functioning properly. The arthritis that caused Elvis severe pain throughout his body impacted his muscular system and skeletal system. There is clearly more at play here than dependence on prescription medication when more than eighty percent of Elvis’ bodily systems did not function properly. When we add to that the evidence that I have uncovered proving that of those nine, five-the circulatory (heart disease), respiratory (Alpha 1), digestive/excretory (megacolon), nervous (insomnia) and immune (hypogammaglobulinemia)-were present since birth and certainly prior to the prescription drug use that accompanied fame." Elvis was actually struggling with undiagnosed and then misdiagnosed, congenital illnesses from childhood. This is why for a 42-year-old he had a body that was physiologically much older. I think Elvis suffered much of his life.
Elvis dedicated his life to getting his family out of poverty. At the end of his life, he had more than 100 people on his payroll, and I believe that he was a very ill man who was struggling to continue to provide for those he loved and to give everyone what they wanted--Elvis Presley. I am thankful that Sally has done some interviews that are posted on UA-cam, and has written a book that helps us understand the man, and that gives him back his integrity. He was an ill man who had doctors throwing medications, that were available at the time, at symptoms without really treating the actual diseases. He was a man trying desperately to survive, and who wanted to continue to bless the world with his unique gifts. It is my opinion that Baz Luhrman got this wrong in his movie.
I think Baz only supported old rumors of his influences. Very little about the man and artist. I appreciate any tribute to Elvis, I believe that the best tribute to Elvis is to show others him for themselves the immense and extraordinary talent that he alone had. In addition to being one of the most generous human beings on the planet.

This Preformance is always hard to watch Elvis's was gravely i'll, his heart was failing him and he was having trouble breathing but he gave it his all to the end. This was his last Filmed preformance on June 21,1977 and Elvis Died on August 16,1977 at the age of 42.

"Unchained Melody" was written in 1955; it's about a WWII soldier yearning for his dearly beloved who's back at home waiting for him. 3 different artists hit the Top 10 with it in 1955. The Righteous Brothers recorded the song in 1965 & theirs is perhaps the more well-known version as their recording was used in the movie: "Ghosts." Numerous other artists have since recorded it. Elvis's is my personal favorite. This is a very difficult performance for fans to watch as Elvis performed it just 8 weeks before his death. He is clearly ill, his breathing labored when he's speaking and yet his beautiful vocals came through. Thank you for your reactions.
My beautiful Elvis had a twisted colon and was in heart failure. He had glaucoma. He was in so much pain. This crushes me. He loves music and loved his fans.
I can only recommend the Elvis film with Tom Hanks to everyone, it shows what a brutal manager he had, who forced him to just perform in Las Vegas for years, even though he wanted to go on a big world tour and a big European tour and he had to constantly perform in Las Vegas because he had signed some gagging contracts.

I can't.... just can't.... watch this video, this final Elvis triumph, without crying. Guys, he was weeks away from his death. He can barely talk, let alone breath but he sings like this! I was never an Elvis fan but this past summer has changed me. What gets me is despite how sick, how grievously ill he was when he sung this, you can see his beautiful smile and listen to his powerful soulful voice and know - this is the King. My emotions are so mixed - both touched, sad, but also anger at those who let Elvis down.

My grandparents saw Elvis Several times in the early 70s and adored his music and him, when I tried to show them this video clip they told me to shut it off, they don't want to see it hurt too much to see him that way sickly, stuttering, gasping for breath, my grandmother said that Elvis lived 3 life times and paid dearly for it, God must of loved Elvis because even though his body was failing him his voiced never failed him.
My dad passed away 6 months ago and when going through his things we found his ticket to this show in Rapid City SD

The Righteous Brother's are the original, which is what is in the movie Ghost. This song has been covered by several people. But I'd say after the original, Elvis's cover is probably the most popular. Thanks. Great reaction .
"Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955),[1] hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack.

Roy Hamilton released a version back in 1955 that Elvis loved. It’s an excellent performance but Elvis’s version is so special especially since he was so sick and passes away a few short weeks later. Likely the Righteous Brothers version is the most popular and is amazing but the Elvis power vocals are truly stunning to hear in his cover of the song.
@@elpresley A guy named Al Hibbler also recorded it in the early fifties before the Righteous Brothers in the late sixties. Elvis put his stamp on it and I like his version better.

I'm not sad, I'm damn proud. This man was a TANK! There's so many misconceptions about this time period. Most will focus on his appearance...well truth be told it was mostly fluid retention from health ailments that were congenital, NOT from drug abuse. There's so many layers to just this footage, which was filmed for a special by CBS. Elvis was given 16 days to get ready for the cameras thanks to his manager. If you watch more of the concerts filmed you'll see it's the same Elvis doing what he did best. THE GOAT

This performance still gives me goosebumps and tears. I do hope you are able to get a babysitter and see this in the theater. The movie is magnificent and needs to be seen in the theater. Late comment. I love rock/metal/punk. For me, it all really started from my father and grandfather, and there it was Elvis Presley, JR, Cash, Jerry lee Lewis, Littel Richard. My favorite artists/bands are King diamond, Queen, Slayer, Volbeat, Misfits, Metallica. But Elvis is the gateway for me and I will always rank him as number 1. There will never be another artist like him. To me he is the king of music
I've always been a huge Elvis fan, I find this hard to watch. This concert was only three weeks before he died, he still sounded amazing. What a sad day it was when we lost the King!!

This performance is so bittersweet. It takes me through a rollercoaster of emotions. The one true constant, though, was his voice. I've seen this and so many of his performances more times than I can count and it's like watching each one for the first time every time. I am always amazed, both emotionally and physically (chill bumps, on the edge of my seat, laughing, crying, dancing, holding my breath). Elvis was truly incredible and there will never be another like him.
If you listen you can hear that Elvis is very out of breathe, he was really sick but most never had a clue. He was the most beautiful soul . I was lucky enough to see him in concert back in 1976 , March 17th in Johnson City Tennessee. Still the greatest show I've ever seen. Long live the KING!!!

He was the greatest singer and entertainer. I suggest watching his Sept. 1956 performances of Don’t Be Cruel and Ready Teddy on the Ed Sullivan show. It shows Elvis at age 21 and all his charisma and sense of humor which turned the music World upside down.
24,000 people came to see him give his last performance, out of breath, still great!

This is the hardest clip to watch of Elvis...this was his last concert and he was in horrible shape; you can tell by his breathing and his cognitive sort of stuttering goin on. But my God he put his heart into this song and his voice was just brilliant. This made me weep...he could still have possibly been with us today at 87 as an elder statesman of Rock n Roll and popular music in general. Such an immense loss...
This is such a bittersweet performance. He was in the throes of his addiction, he was overweight, sick, and desperately unhappy. But what a performance! There was such a gravitas to older Elvis. It’s operatic.
I don't know if you've seen it, yet, but he also plays guitar (acoustic), and the drums, too!!
I hate seeing him like this---he can't breathe, but he finds the breath to belt it, baby!!! Also, he's loopy from too much druggin'---it breaks my heart; but, at the same time, he's still so fabulous!!! ❤️

This man was truly a gift from God! I am so happy I lived during his time, and had the opportunity to see him in concert. He was special and there will never be another like him. Thank you for reacting to his music and keeping his music alive for this generation.

He died six weeks after this performance. You will notice how often he has to take breaths to get through it. He knew he was very sick. His heart was giving out and he knew it. He had many other maladies too. The Righteous Brothers were first on the song. He wasn’t kidding. He really thought he was a less than good piano player. I’ve been a lifelong fan since the 50’s.
It's a sad moment. But that smile!!!
Years ago I was talking about Elvis and his tragic death and my wife wondered what might have happened if Elvis had ever lost his voice. Blew my mind. I wondered if it might have been a wake-up call about his habits and his health. We'll never know of course. He had it till the end. RIP Elvis.
Thank y'all for doing this video this performance gives me chills everytime and when he was talking in the beginning You can hear how sick he was but he gave 100 percent Rest In Peace King and I'm a huge metal guy btw and I still tear up to this song

Elvis played the piano on several of his songs. Search “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, from 1967. Wow! It’s amazing. Plus. He played in a few more, such as I Will Be True, and It’s Still Here.
I'm 70 yrs old. I've always been an Elvis fan. Even when the Beatles came, still totally for Elvis that has never changed. I watched this on TV with tears rolling down my face. He was the best and still is in my opinion

Baz did an amazing job at showing his end of life so respectfully. Two weeks ago I went to Nashville to go to the Country Music Hall Of Fame and a tour of RCA Studio B (my favorite part). Elvis recorded some 200+ songs there from 1957-1971 and had his own wall. The actual main studio was so surreal. Same floor he walked on, his favorite piano you can sit at and the colored lights he had put in. They played a medley of 5 songs and a couple were played with all the lights out. I had tears streaming down my face. Later that night went to see Tim Foust and Austin Brown of Home Free and some other friends do a show at City Winery. Austin did a solo acapella version of "Unchained Melody" that was amazing. Not Elvis, but 2nd best. More tears. You should go if you have a chance to Nashville. Austin Brown has a solo UA-cam channel where he did a video for "Unchained Melody" so you can hear for yourself. Geoff Castellucci of VoicePlay covered Elvis's song "Way Down" in early June. It hit #1 posthumously for Elvis. Geoff did a great job paying homage to the king without it looking ridiculous. No jumpsuits or anything. Not sure if you ever watched "Game Of Thrones", but today I think Geoff is releasing his cover of a song from series called "Rains Of Castamere" on his UA-cam channel. VoicePlay probably releasing their newest cover today as well for "I Can't Make You Love Me". Love your channel. Could you react to Elvis singing "Wooden Heart" from his 1960 movie GI Blues? Very handsome in uniform and singing to a female puppet. Elvis can even charm a puppet. One of my favorite movies of his.

Seen this 100 times. He was having trouble speaking in the beginning. But when he starting singing it was other worldly. He gave everything. He nailed it. The greatest entertainer of the 20th century,..period. Grand reaction as usual. Thank you for that.😀🤘✌️
I'm getting choked up watching this knowing he will gone soon after this concert. I was a 12 year old kid that cried when he died and really didn't know why. You don't know how much a person can affect you until it happens. The only other person that affected me like that was when John lennon was murdered 💔 😪
