Very interesting to hear Jack’s thoughts on the ‘two bands’ Cream became. It’s kind of a similar phenomenon that happened with their equally brilliant contemporaries the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
I'm going to throw in The Who there too. Their live gigs from at least '67 were heavy renditions of their studio stuff. It's like they were two bands as well. The limitations of one guitar, bass and drums with no overdubs etc.
Overratede? By what standards? How many double bass drummers before Ginger Baker, how many double bass drummers after Baker? How many Marshall amps were sold before Cream how many were sold after Cream? 45 singles world before Cream and the LP albums world after Cream? Guitar virtuosity before Cream and guitar virtuosity after Cream? How many trios before Ceam how many trios after Cream? Sign of the times and they just happened to be there? Very possible, but who else played like Cream before Cream as compared how many play like Ceam after Cream. What band in history could reform 35 years later and sell out as many shows as they chose too? I am sure a few, but Cream would be the only ones I can think of that I would try to buy a ticket. It isn't the songs it was the combined talents.

Ahhh, success is so difficult and causes so much pressure. I think it was the LSD.
