      @@sch2412 :D:D:D bwahah. Well, maybe some would find you trying already charming. I have made SO MANY embarassing mistakes in French. Like the first year I spoke it I didn't know the subtle difference between "Thank you so much" and "thank you, nice ass" :D

    I met my Latvian husband online and we were always speaking in English. I learnt some Latvians lovely words too.
    Just now I am taking this nice lesson and told him "Tu esi loti pievilcigs", first time ever I told him this in Latvian after
    almost 8 years of relationship haha
    and also "Vai drikstu tevi noskupstit?" and he answered "Ja, sjbsjdbsdbfsdfb (in Latvian, which I didnt understand), then we kissed ❤❤❤
    Then "Jel dod man bucin", and he looks at me smiling and I told him, what?? and he says: "It's funny".
    Thanks for this nice and lovely lesson ♡ Greetings from Lima, Perú ♡

    In Estonian, it's also "you are likeable to me" (Sa meeldid mulle) and we actually have a friend's day on valentine's day. To wish happy friend's day you say "Head sõbrapäeva!" or to wish valentine's day, you say "Head valentiinipäeva!" :)
    Good video though! And soon, Sveiciens Valentindiena / Head sõbrapäeva :D

      I love how Estonian sounds! I was editing an Estonian voiceover yesterday (don’t understand a word but can check the text by listening and reading). Would be lovely to understand it too :)

      @@irregularLatvian ahh that's really neat :) I'm glad you like the sound of my language! And I do like the sound of Latvian as well :) If I don't pay attention on the conversation in Latvian so much, I think the sound of it is identical to Estonian.
      And another thing is that I hear Latvian here rarely since I'm from northern part. I can hear it when I'm on the southern border or, especially in Valga/Valka :D

    Why does your "O" vowel sounds like diphtongue "UO".

    • @irregularLatvian
      @irregularLatvian  4 роки тому +1

      We have 2 ways of pronouncing it. One is o like at the end of “kino; eiro” and the second is the diphthong UO (sounds like ua) like in “ola” (egg) -> sounds like uala

  • @tchahin

    "Vai tu" in portuguese means "Will you" or literally "Go you". I wonder if it has the same meaning in latvian.

    • @MinMinn192
      @MinMinn192 2 роки тому

      Late reply, but it means "Do you", "Have you", "Will you" or any other form of that expression I may be forgetting, depending on the tense of the verb used afterwards. It's used for yes/no questions.

  • @williamobrien4134
    @williamobrien4134 3 роки тому

    I would say Vai es drikstu noskupstit jus (or jums)? Put it in a more polite type of way because you're trying to impress the girl. Using the word "tevi" seems a little too intense or personal and that it's almost like a requirment. I feel that if you use jums or jus, it give room for "escape" or polite decline. Let me know if that makes sense.

    Latvians - not exactly known for the romance. I saw this title and thought “this should be interesting”. Although I am directly related to the Latvian poet Doku Atis through my grandfather Fridrichs Doks, and I do think Latvians like to “think deeply” - but probably more about birch trees and having enough grain to feed your children 😂
