It’s so funny to finally know the words, since I adopted from a Latvian friend two cats years ago who didn’t have specific names but the Latvian words for cats. I had a hard time managing to pronounce the words correctly. And now the cats are with my mother, who’s Chinese and cannot at all call them in the right way. Instead she calls them “kagigi” for kaķis and “Longgi” for runcis 😅😅
I was a fosterhome for a bunch of cat siblings and got to name them all but only the letter T so, Tiberius, Titanius, Tatjana, Tarquinius, Tina and Tullius. And the mother too called Tuss

I had It in the script, but had to cut it as the video was getting long. Hmmm maybe A video on Latvian cat places. Im sure other places have stories too..
My pomping had a race boat with a Latvian name for sea monster but that all i know. Another boat was called The Reincarnate Alston Latvian. What do you think he could have called the sea monster boat?
@@irregularLatvian I personally prefer them too, even though I really love dogs, I really love almost all animals actually! If you look at the Chinese Calendar, I'm a dog too haha, are there any calendars of this kind in Latvia? By the way, which travel destinations are popular with Latvians? I travelled the world for 13 months prior to the pandemic and I've met a person from almost every European country, I haven't yet met a Latvian in real life though, maybe I'll have to take a trip to Latvia after the pandemic ends haha! Thanks for the message by the way! I think you're the first Latvian I've ever talked to! Know a few Estonians and lots of Lithuanians though
I think Latvian animal sounds are (generally) so much more accurate than English (not just murresana and naudesana, but that dogs go Vau (rather than woof) and ducks Pek (as opposwed to quacking).... I never knew Mincis/Minka was another word for Cat, but knew it as a name - and I always thought "Runcis" was sort of "Tom Cat" Not sure I'd trust our cat to "bless the house"...... is "Kakim zem astes" sort of meant to mean "bum", or that's not quite the intent?
Hi Tim! Thanks for your comment! “Runcis” is exclusively a boy cat, so “Tom cat” if I’m not mistaken is accurate. About the “zem astes”, well... we would never precise it, but I think you’re not wrong. From this we can conclude that the cat’s bum is not highly esteemed by Latvians. 🥸
As someone who is part Latvian and can't speak the language, these videos are a GODSEND
Yesss, I’m full Latvian but lived in Scotland so long I can’t speak the language anymore so these videos do really help
I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!! My latvian husband and I now have a cat, and now I can say a few more Latvian words to him.
Talking about "peļu junkurs": I have heard the word "junkurs" more as "policeman" than "land lord", but maybe both meanings are used similarly.
My first Latvian words were "Labs Skaists Kakis" while patting Minka
"Angry!.......But a wife!" Hahaha.
Such a cutie you are!!

By skimming, I misread one name as Tetanus
That’s so lovely that you were able to provide a foster home for them. Sweetness! :)
I loved the video! I‘m sure these expressions will come in handy with my Latvian friends 😁

Ha ha ha. Thankfully no Record of that exists. It is kaķim zem astes :)))
Purrfect - Had to write it, apologies, is it quite common for Latvians to have cats? The way it's common in France for example!
Hi there! Thanks for your comment! Yes Latvians love cats but they might love dogs a bit more. I guess it depends. I’ve always been a cat person :)
