Hi Ozzy, The large burrowing mayflies spend unto 3 years burrowing in the river bed unto 6 meters deep down in the mud and sand. When they emerge they do it as quickly as possible. You can weight this pattern if you wish but I just wet the fly and then squeeze out any air in the body and fish it just under the surface.
I have been trying to figure out the gills on the mayfly nymph. I thought they were more white that that. I have looked at this several times. I like the cdc thorax. Thanks for sharing. All the best, Sean
Beautiful fly! I think I'll add some to the big nymph box but I wanted to ask why It's so large? Don't get me wrong I've seen and know there are some giant mayflies but are burrowers often so large? If anyone can let me know, feel free. Regardless, an excellent and so very buggy pattern, thank you for sharing it.
Barry, I have looked at this a couple of times and I will give it a go tomorrow, it will be slightly smaller but perhaps the fish will feel sorry for me. Another " Cracker " Reg
Hi Barry, I am still in Asia and the hooks are getting scarce, I am going to try it on size 10 regular shanks. I will let you know before I put my head in the oven... Keep her lit. Reg
Very nice. You are truly a master!! Tight lines🪲🪰🦟!!!!
WOW! That’s a great fly!! I’ve got your book but it’s nice to watch you tie them on your channel!
Glad you like them!
Absolutely awesome idea with the hurl as gills. Never thought of that. Can't wait to tie a few of these for carp.
Thanks Dave, I hope it works.
Thank you for your time...nicely done. TN, USA

Awesome Barry - thanks
Superbe et certainement trés efficace .
Great pattern. But could you explain how to use it?
I mean it won’t sink any depth. Some wet flies will sink deeper
