1. Speed signs indicate your runaway speed. Your speed can be anywhere from 10km/h to whatever the sign says but the closer you get to that speed the harder it gets to maintain control of your train. 2. Just a general thing but you keep rushing things. I know this is just a video game but still, if you just slow down and don't rush, you'll have a better chance at getting that time bonus and not derailing. Me personally, I like seeing people succeed. :) 3. Your engine keeps getting hot because you're always running with the throttle open and not getting up to a good speed and then coasting. The engine is under constant load and the cooling system can't keep up. I love your videos man, you have such entertaining content and I love these videos especially. Keep at it, man. :)
I guess if we're compiling tips and suggestions for kAN then: 4. You can take the job ads/pamphlets/whatever that you want to accept into your inventory, go and hook all of them up to your train (make sure you arrange the cars such that the first one you want to unhook is at the back of your train), prep your train for departure and only THEN go to the job validator and toss all of them in at once. That way you'll have WAAAAYYYYY more time to complete the haul. 5. Every car has their job id on them. The format is like "FH-HB-71" or "SL-SU-92". Makes it easier to find the right job in the station office or the right cars if you already found a nice job in the office. 6. You can use independent brakes with lighter loads but with heavier loads you should mainly use the train brakes. Be gentle with the train brake because it takes time to repressurize. The longer your train is the longer it takes, and the longer it takes the longer you'll be bleeding speed. Going for nearly 100% brakes every time you need to slow down will quickly bog you down and cost you time. Just like in Railroads Online, sometimes all you need is just 10% or 20% brakes to keep your speed under control. 7. Plan your general route before you accept jobs and plan what and how you're going to drop-off at your destination before you get there. Sometimes you may have to reverse your train into a station or into a shunt lane because the cars you need to unhook are at the back of your train and there's a dead end with no space for the rest of your train to pull through. Edit: 3a. Letting your engine temp get to the red zone will start to cause damage to your engine which will in turn cost you lots of money in the long run. Even when climbing uphill you can kill the throttle and coast for a little while to cool down a bit before pushing the throttle back to where it was. By following these guidelines I've been able to nail those bonus times with time to spare, even with many, many licenses that shave down that bonus time. I'm sure you can do it too :)
4. If there is a speed increase, you need to pass the sign with the last car before the new speed limit applies. This is important when doing a Long II job at the same time as another job
Kan, The Crew Vehicles are found around the map. There are currently 2 crew vehicles. A Caboose, and a hand car. Also, I recommend checking out the shops at each location because the shops have items that differ between locations. For example, there's a stop watch, keys to unlock the crew vehicles, a remote to control an engine without being in the engine itself, etc.
Another thing to remember is to turn off your engine when you finish a job. If you leave it running that engine will keep accumulating maintenance fees until it runs out of fuel.
Starting and stopping those massive diesels causes more wear than idling. The game even says that if you're just running into the office to grab another job, just leave the engine running.
@@TheSonic10160 It is if im not mistaken. Everytime you start the Diesel Shunter you get 1% Engine damage. Meaning it will cost you 75$ to just start the engine.
When rerailing, the further away you rerail the more it will cost(up to $5k). A car that is off the rail but not off the track will cost about $500. Accelerate only if: You are in a yard, you are going up a hill, are getting up to speed. This conserves fuel and prevents the engine from overheating. Speed limits are not a suggestion. Plan your route ahead of time before you even take a job.
A quick tip that I dont see anyone mentioning, try to keep the rerail as close as possible. The fee is quite a bit less, can save you a few hundred - a few thousand depending on where you place it
Another tip. Every time you get a new license, it increases your deductible. So with no license other than the starter train, it is only $100. Every time you add a new one, it’s going to go up. Drastically.
Wheelslip is your worst nightmare. It damages the wheels VERY quickly, and reduces the overall reactive effort while the wheels are slipping. It's always better to reduce the throttle and stop the slip than to keep the throttle high and wait for the train to build speed.
Yeah definitely on the train brake, if you're controlling your speed down a hill, you just want like, barely more than 0, like 5-10 degrees and then off again immediately, you'll shed 10 km/h in a few seconds. The train brake gets more effective the more cars you have, the independent becomes pretty useless at doing anything except holding a train on a grade or stopping your locomotive when you're running light loco. Source: have run a 600 metre long train over basically the same route as you, except starting from the harbour. Also: A new yard that you've never gone through will always have the points set straight-through so you don't need to worry about running through an area for the first time. (and you should definitely set switches back if you do stop and do some shunting before leaving with another train) ALSO STOP LOOKING AT YOUR BLOODY MAP WHILE DOING TWICE THE SPEED LIMIT DOWN A HILL.
I am really glad Kan is a youtuber and not a train engineer.... :) Use one or two notches on the train bakes for a second or two then release them. It is much better than using full train brakes or independent brakes all the time.
@@Maxikxng It's ok. It is my fault for not getting a copyright for it. :) ' If someone is too lazy or unintelligent to wright thier own comment, I feel sorry for them.
man those bots are so annoying, getting 100k subs and 20 times more likes than original comments, and then people like you also get bullied by stupid people who think the bot is the original commentor...
Kan, you really shouldn’t use the independent brake while you have the train hooked up. Using the train brake both gradually and in full is much better for your control of the train, especially since it both applies and releases faster.
That made me really uncomfortable. My great grandfather was killed at Conway railyard as he was coupling 2 cars together, 1 rolled into him and crushed him between the two crushing him to death. Seeing you go between them while they were moving was just unsettling to me.
you can use the scroll wheel to adjust things, lets you move by one notch easy which makes more sense after to get the train remote (which has a sweet auto couple button and tells you how big your train is, my largest is 101 with 6 de6's the caboose and 94 cars) when your going downhill try putting the train brakes at 1 then fine adjust with the independent, also you can apply the air brakes on the cars by opening the air valve with a disconnected hose, but they will have to re-pressurize when re-connected.
This is better than my first derail my first derail sent all the cars and the engine completely off the track like a rocket I'm pretty sure you hit the switch as it was switching because you were coming in so fast
When you're pulling any sort of freight that weighs more than like 70 tons you wanna use the train brake more. The independent brake is for the locomotive only which doesn't do much when you have that much weight behind you. So if you're pulling a freight, always use the train brake. Just make sure to release it a little earlier then when you're at the desired speed because it needs a bit of time to build up pressure again which makes it stay on for a little longer.
I love just sitting here as he flips through books, whole time i’m just watching the speed increase to a point where if he hits a turn or junction it’s all over xD
Even though i die of anxiety watching Kan and dapper play this game, and especially this video, i am actually very proud of Kan making it up that 1.4% this episode. Whil i was looking at the map though, there was a wye on the turn before the machine factory, i was thinking of having the train go there as it is also downhill have the train turn around and come back in backwards (unfortunately uphill) and then drive in forward but seeing that there was such little fuel left he did the right thing.
Some things I've learned - turn the engine off whenever you're coasting. It saves on fees and fuel and every penny saved is penny made. Also, logistic hauls and concurrent license are great because you can have a freight load and then throw another 3 empty cars to make more money with your copay staying around 10,000, so you always make a profit on every run even if you damage the cars.
Hey Kan, here are a few tips I wish I had when I started. Keep it up! 1. After any kind of accident, or at any time, you can check a car or engine's health by looking at the placard on its side. It says Vehicle and Cargo, followed by a percentage. 2. When picking a job, you can use the picture of the car count/colors to figure out which line you need to hook to before accepting the job. Buys you a little wiggle room if you want. Hook up and then accept. 3. Most of the time you can't really make good use out of going over 60-70kph, at least not until you are experienced with the route. 4. More than half throttle = temp increase in shunter. Build speed and coast. 5. Most Freight jobs (green sheets) have clear delivery lanes you can drive through for easy unload, unless the yard doesn't have a connection on the back of the line. In that case, you will need to back it in, but they usually have spots to easily reverse direction. Most logistic jobs have something in the way you'll need to move. 6. When a train is ON, you are accumulating running costs. Even if you are not moving. This plays a much bigger role once you get into manual servicing. I did a 2-job, using dual DE6's, pulling total 38 loaded cars @ well over a 1,000T and my running costs were like 15k, but I profited over 100k! 7. F1 - F8 are your FRIENDS! Learn them and you'll love them. 8. Pull into a delivery and don't even unhook, just hurry up and turn that sucker in! 9. Coal train is SUPER fun, you'll love it! Once you unlock it and Hazmat 1, pull some jobs from the Oil yards. Big money, like 40-50k each or more! 10. DE6 has no manual in-game. Google it, once you get it unlocked. P.S. Shunt jobs are a lot of busy work but can be quite profitable. Plus, you get to unload/load in most cases. These are just my experiences and there is a TON more to learn out there!
F1-F8 is a terrible way to use the keyboard tbh. I rebound it to: Throttle - Y for up, H for down Train brake - U for up, J for down Ind. Brake - I for up, J for down Reverser - O for up, L for down Makes it easier to use multiple controls at once. Also remember that quote and semicolon are for selecting which car to couple or uncouple with the remote, and period and forward slash do the coupling/uncoupling.
@@jordananderson2728 Fair enough but now that I've mastered F1-F8 I find them in a pinch every time. Just used to it I guess. Good advice for someone just getting into it.
I ran into a similar issue, stuck on a hill with no sand, no hope, nothing. What I did was, left the train, ran back to town, grabbed another engine and hooked it up and it helped me make it.
To make it easier to hit the bonus times, take the job sheet (or sheets, if you want to try to run more than one job at once) and couple the train (you can usually identify it from the pictures even without the IDs - the colors and car types will match) before you accept the job. Maybe even move it closer to the office if that cuts distance off leaving. Just double-check the IDs before you actually leave.
What i really love about this game that the amount of cars on the map are always consistant. They dont dissapear and at some point you need to "clean up" the stations. Another point i want to mention: Know the route you are going. Find sections where you can build up momentum and sections where to coast to let your engine cool down before a climb. Also get to know the speed limit of switches below 60.
I just ran a train the other day with 126 cars and 5 de6's. I probably could of gotten away with 4 but I wanted to be safe. It took a few hours just to build it. Oh and I think it was 15 or 17 jobs
I did similar a few days ago. Shunted every load at the food town, loaded everything heading in the harbor direction on and a couple for goods and steel mill. 4 DE-6's, a train that stretched around 95 cars mixed empty and loaded. Had to put two DE-2s at the end behind the caboose as distributive power to get started. Think the whole shunting + staging to delivery took 11 hours
@@raymarshall6721 ive dove a couble mega loads but that was the biggest it was long enoph to not fit fully in the harbor it was sticking out both ends by 10ish cars. it was all but 3 jobs. my second highest was from oil well north. was I think 88 cars plus 3 de8s and the kaboose. oh and the remotcontrol would cut out if I was in the caboose for the 126 train
So he gets distracted, and derails. Five minutes later, gets distracted and details. Whenever I’m coming up on an area where I’m not sure I’ve get the tracks set I stop the train, get out, skip around using the F key and make sure my switches are set. About the only yard you can blow through at over 50 is the steel yard, and 60 is about the cap for that. But yeah, if you are going to be looking at anything for more than 10 seconds or so, either make sure you are in a long straight no switch area, slow your train down a lot, or just stop your train.
Tip, put your map down inside the train so you can quickly switch between looking at said map and the very important speed signs next to the track :P @22:40 kAN, who is new to the game: 'I feel really bad for the poor guy that has to do the maintenance on this train' Me, who has played this game before: ahahaha yeaaaaah .. future surprise incoming!
The easiest way is to cut your max weight in half (200 for DE2 and 700 for DE6) to adjust for the 3% grade as the load capacity is calculated based on a 0% grade. This is good to know for when at places like harbor and you are just shunting within the yard (you can then get closer to the limit advertised) Alternatively, you can add the tonnage for the train cars up, then cut them in half and use the advertised numbers (400 for DE2 and 1400 for DE6) when calculating. I generally do (GROSS_TONNAGE / 2) / 400 for DE2 or (GROSS_TONNAGE / 2) / 1400 for DE6 to know how many locos to put.
Really the reason why heavy cars derail easier is because they have a higher center of mass. If the center of mass was below the rail height the train would never derail no matter how fast you go through turns because the train would basically try to flip into the turn. Additionally, if a car would have a high mass and center of mass and you brake at the front, the high mass will push into the car in front high up and potentially push it of. If you however brake all cars at once that is not a problem.
When watching the station map layout book press left alt. Now you can use your mouse coursor to select a bookmark with initials (and colours) of station that you are interested in directly, without flipping it page by page from front page to the last. Just don't forget to press left alt again to quit from this mode.
tip: trains roll ALOT so don't have the throttle full open all the time, put it on idle and let the train roll or the engine temp will get real high. 200+ tons even roll uphill alot and downhill you mostly never need any throttle. only use the throttle to accalerate or keep the speed on a uphill section otherwise have it on idle. also on switches i would recommend going 50 or 60, i never derailed with 60 (on the switch afterwards you might derail if the corner is too tight). if youre going fast you dont need the throttle to be full open to accelerate so if the temp is getting hot pput it a bit down, also yellow also damages the engine or oil.
Kan,, Awesome video. I would recommend setting up your cars before you accept the job. It will save you lots of time. Myself, I did a lot of similar mistakes as well. But then again that's what makes the videos great. Watching as you learn. Do some shunting missions, especially around Harbor Town. And when you can afford it, pick up the remote control. It will save you time as well. Your doing great. I've been playing about a week off and on.. Still learning and having fun.. Keep them coming when you can.
Another addition to the plentiful collection of tips in the comments: An easy way to give you more time on a contract is to find the cars you are going to move before you accept the contract. The train looks always almost exactly like it's shown on the front page so finding it is quite easy. Just move your engine there before you accept and to ensure your contract doesn't disappear put it in your inventory. If you do this it might save you up to 10 min or more.
I've run double de2's with over 500 tons of cars just fine. Take it slow, accelerate coast to not over heat. Predict slow corners and switches to slow down well in time. Oh and down hill is scare fast if you are not on the brakes. Managing speed is how you not derail.
Make sure to watch the wheel slip light (the big red one) on the dash when accelerating. It can really kill your momentum and costs money to repair. You can use the sand switch to limit wheel slip when accelerating or climbing hills.
kAn, chill a bit. A recommendation from my job (not train conductor, but close enough): concentrate on makinng the job properly, you'll get faster automaticly (in other words: screw the bonus) btw: had the same problem comming up from the food factory but I chose taking another route before reaching the top some hints (to get the bonus): 0. irl: take pen and paper to make some notes 1. choose a contract and put it in your inventory (so it won't despawnn) (accepting will be step 6)a 2. check the map for your route and check the yards you like to pass 3. spot the train by checkinng the contract 4. take and align the engine and couple it to the train, releasing the brakes (but don't move the train) 5. put all switches you can reach the way you want 6. accept the job 7. start the trip to your destination and take your time 8.1 keep your eyes o the track and obey the speed limits, the speed limit counts for all of the train (careful with long trains) 8.2 except you're going uphill, than you should keep a close look on speed and engine temp, don't loose your momentum (my recommendation: play with the throttle, there should be a point when your temp is climbing slightly and so does your speed and the setting below should cool down your engine slightly while loosing some speed), even crawling means, you have momentum left 9. when approacing the station or passing one, take out your comms radio (switching device) and than either do it like in this video, if you have a save speed, go forward or just reduce the speed and keep an eye on every switch (remember the notes) 10. bring the train to a complete stop, so all cars are between the track signs 11. go to the station and finish the job anyway, it's just fun to watch you struggle with this game, i can really feel you being overwhelmd :) and thank god, you're livinng on another continent, less chances for me getting injured by you being close to a train
Each throttle setting tops out at a certain speed. Once the train reaches that speed, keeping throttle is pointless. You will save fuel and overheat less on flat ground if you accelerate up to the limit, cut throttle and let it fall 5km/h, then add throttle again to get back to the limit as needed.
Ever considered building a model railroad? Amazing hobby, especially nowadays with everything being digital and being able to control everything on the layout with the push of a button! I think it'd be great if you built one based on one of the shunting yards and routes found in this game. Then you could do this for real!
Your experience with the formulas from railroads online should have prepared you for your engines drastic reduction in pulling power on an incline. An engine that can pull 400 tons on flat ground is not going to be able to pull 200 tons up a 2% incline without significant trouble. You are basically running cargo to the iron mine with a Betsy. For heavy loads I always try to route through the main line where the steel mill is because it's flat, and fairly straight. The shorter routes are generally slower because of the grade and tight corners.
Alright so you have your train brake and your independent brake. When pulling large/heavy trains don’t even touch the independent brake. It really only helps when pulling around in the yard or for getting coupled to something. When using the train brakes for the other 95% of the game i would recommend only applying 1-3 notches of brake. Unless it’s a code brown moment then max it out to full. But you want to avoid braking heavily because it takes a long time to build pressure back up and if you’re on a hill it could sabotage your whole run. So at most try to do 3 notches of brake to hold your speed.
Just a heads up, the lower brake valve is the independent brake, only used if the loco isn't carying any cargo. When hauling freight you should only ever use the top brake valve, whch is the automatic brake. Thanks for the videos!
Damaging your loc by deraillment or overheating (in the red & yellow) will reduce performance of the engine by a lot. Thats why you were unable to climb that hill with a 280t train. You can always switch locs in one of the cities if your loc is damaged.
Remember that the Heureka can pull some 60ish cars on flat ground or domething but only a few uphill? That 400t on the small engine is the same from ecperience.
0:25 careful buying licences when you do not need them. Every license decreases the bonus time deadline, increases the insurance copay or both. The only exceptions are the shunting license (neutral for both), and the logistics haul (increases time bonus deadline +5% without affecting copay) Both of them should be unlocked as soon as possible if you have the funds and meet the prerequisites
oh that's good to know on those two licenses. I thought literally every license increased it so I haven't even bought the shunting one after running like 4 FH trips
Kan, you don't always need to match speed limit, you could have your DE2 2 or 3 notches on the throttle and you'll be fine. Save speed limit matching when you have a bigger locomotive.
I HIGHLY recommend doing shunting the are normal not to hard and pay less but if u do all of them at a particular area can add up pretty well because trust me you don't wanna run out of money and be able to pay fees the game bars you from doing new jobs if you have to many fees and if you have no money on top of that you have to ither mod you game or delete the save file and start over I had to learn this the hard way I only tell you this because I felt that pain the best way I can describe this game is its a fun game but VERY stressful
kAN in Railroads Online: spreadsheed caculations say I can pull up exactly that many trailers on 4% gradient with the Mogul. kAN in Derail Valley: Can my engine even haul this many trailers? Whatever we'll surely be fine! :D
your copay goes up every time you buy a new license. it starts at 100 but starts to climb rapidly once you start to buy licenses. for example Hazmat 1 increases copay by 38000 bucks
Hey kan if you get issues like you did in this one or run out of sand you can pay fees at one of the stations you go threw to retop fuel and sand and will fix the engine aswell.
That was really funny when you saw the fee's .. but since you paid all the fee's your engine is now 100% ok refueled and full sand etc. As you buy more licenses your co-pay will go up and up and up until you are paying for everything you break. I derailed a long fuel train and got a 500k bill... ouch , took me ages to pay it off but you can do it eventually. Good luck.
theres keys to sheds you need to find (keys for sale at places), 1 has a handcar and the other has a caboose. the caboose shed keys are for sale at city for $25000
You can save time if you choose your goods first, but not validate it. Then you have unlimited time to prepare your train. If you are at the right track, Go to validate the Job. The only thing you need to do is just couple the train together. These minutes or two can really make a difference. 👍
Despite what it looks like. On most *MOST* of the map, the speed limits are something like +/- 5 mph. There are a few that are truly hazardous. But I've ridden most corners in the map +/-5 though, heaver trains take longer to do anything, that is the biggest take away. Also. De6 isn't exactly something you want to look into till you are doing jumbo jobs. Like 80-200k jobs, because its both very thirsty, and takes a lot to keep it up and running.
hey there kAN... Been watching your content for a little while now. Keep up the great work. I was watching some older videos on Derail Valley and it seem there is a TRAIN REMOTE CONTORL to be found at one of the locations on the map.. Its located in the small blue building named "SHOP". Don't forget to tell your streaming buds also :) thanks P.s. It's well worth the 25000$. I don't regret it as first purchase in game
Be aware the weight limit for the train is on flat ground. So going up mountainous terrain can easily become an impossible task for a train that looses too much momentum on approach
you really gotta print out the new license details before you get one, Pay special attn to how much the deductible goes up Also, pick jobs that pay more per min, I did a FH job that was 375t ish and it paid over 35c/min Now that was a tough job getting up the hill outta the yard without stopping or going into shutdown...
Kan could have his own episode of Mayday: Air Disasters, with trains instead of planes. Didn't prepare the cars before accepting the job Didn't check which way he should go in the switches Didn't care about topspeed and engine maintenance at all Derailed, and spent more than necessary to rerail Didn't check if all the cars where connected correctly and had to come back many times. Even after that he failed to check the map before too late and Derailled a second time. Stalled the engine on a hill and tried to hold a 276 ton cargo with just the independent brakes (That was just funny) All that with 18 minutes to go In real life you wouldn't be allowed to see a train ever again 😕
couldn;t help but notice, you left the old DE2 Running and didn't pay your fees Kan. That's using diesel until you pay your fees or until it runs out of diesel. you don't have to decouple to finish contracts. but if you aren't paying fees then no one will be servicing the old loco and switching off the engine for you.
If you really want to focus on money making you want to get the hazard license and go to an oil well to get jobs, they pay out a lot. Mix that with multiple trains and simultaneous jobs and you'll usually find 2+ jobs going to the harbour and you can make a killing. I once took 3 long 2 + hazard 1 jobs and used 4 of the small engines to pull it all, didn't get the time bonus on any of them since getting 4 engines together took a bit of time to arrange but I did make over 100k in 1 trip
Be careful with all the licenses you're getting! I had to restart because I had too high of a copay each time and just couldn't make money, even with no derails.
You dont have to check if you still have all the cars at the back. if you had lost one you'd loose pressure in your break pipe and would slow down automatically
The fan didn't work in build 91 of the game but the devs said it was meant to be for the driver but never added it n apparently made it so it cools the engine but uses more fuel
got stuck on a hill like you today before i saw this episode. my problem was that i didn't check the weight of the cargo before setting off. was 418 T. ended up getting a secound train and jump between them. bonus time was 21 min. used 59 HEHE
In this episode: Kan learns why it's called a speed limit, instead of a speed suggestion.
Lmfao
Well they put a speed limit there for a reason.😂
Also why its called derail walley
This isn't why it's derail valley. He hasn't even gotten to CSW yet.
I always stay at 25kph

I love your videos man, you have such entertaining content and I love these videos especially. Keep at it, man. :)
Basically don't drive your train like you would your car
I guess if we're compiling tips and suggestions for kAN then:
4. Or maybe don't use that little shunter engine for cargo trips.
Remote control is very useful for shunting, and the caboose has a terminal in it to pay fees and buy licenses
spoiler alert!
@@jordananderson2728 Yes but Kan doesn't use the same engine, he keeps changing them after every job
Ya but it still burns gas and when u pay ur fees the game shuts it off automatically
@@jordananderson2728 That is not modelled in the game. Shutting down the engine as soon as you're done with it saves fuel and maintenance fees.
@@TheSonic10160 It is if im not mistaken. Everytime you start the Diesel Shunter you get 1% Engine damage. Meaning it will cost you 75$ to just start the engine.
It blows me away that in the event of a derailment, you didn't check EVERY car before you started going again.
Can't waste any time
@@kANGaming Slow is smooth, smooth is fast
@@kANGaming But end up wasting more time haha
how many times did he mention that everything is connected now :p
I've watched this game from a bunch of youtubers and I can't think of anyone who checked every car after derailing.
Kan is becoming a regular with train games now but I’m loving
Derail valley keep up the content Kan
I hope he Starts this in vr its so much fun
When rerailing, the further away you rerail the more it will cost(up to $5k). A car that is off the rail but not off the track will cost about $500.
Accelerate only if: You are in a yard, you are going up a hill, are getting up to speed. This conserves fuel and prevents the engine from overheating.
Speed limits are not a suggestion.
Plan your route ahead of time before you even take a job.
A quick tip: Use Q and E to lean. Comes very handy when checking if cars have already passed the switch.
Exactly. I bought some licenses and now my copay is at like 60k 😂
(and you should definitely set switches back if you do stop and do some shunting before leaving with another train)
ALSO STOP LOOKING AT YOUR BLOODY MAP WHILE DOING TWICE THE SPEED LIMIT DOWN A HILL.
I am really glad Kan is a youtuber and not a train engineer.... :)
Use one or two notches on the train bakes for a second or two then release them. It is much better than using full train brakes or independent brakes all the time.
Your commend got copied rip
@@Maxikxng It's ok. It is my fault for not getting a copyright for it. :) '
If someone is too lazy or unintelligent to wright thier own comment, I feel sorry for them.
man those bots are so annoying, getting 100k subs and 20 times more likes than original comments, and then people like you also get bullied by stupid people who think the bot is the original commentor...
Maybe quickly teleport and check every car if you derail instead of doing one thing and thinking it's done lol
Kan, you really shouldn’t use the independent brake while you have the train hooked up. Using the train brake both gradually and in full is much better for your control of the train, especially since it both applies and releases faster.
it applies at the same speed and releases much slower
That made me really uncomfortable. My great grandfather was killed at Conway railyard as he was coupling 2 cars together, 1 rolled into him and crushed him between the two crushing him to death. Seeing you go between them while they were moving was just unsettling to me.
Sorry for your lost, may he rest in peace.
you can use the scroll wheel to adjust things, lets you move by one notch easy which makes more sense after to get the train remote (which has a sweet auto couple button and tells you how big your train is, my largest is 101 with 6 de6's the caboose and 94 cars) when your going downhill try putting the train brakes at 1 then fine adjust with the independent, also you can apply the air brakes on the cars by opening the air valve with a disconnected hose, but they will have to re-pressurize when re-connected.
I rebound it to:
Throttle - Y for up, H for down
Train brake - U for up, J for down
Ind. Brake - I for up, J for down
Reverser - O for up, L for down
Makes it easier to use multiple controls at once.
@@jordananderson2728 On second thought, I think I'm going to give this a shot. Why not!
Think the whole shunting + staging to delivery took 11 hours
absolute madlad
Tip, put your map down inside the train so you can quickly switch between looking at said map and the very important speed signs next to the track :P
@22:40
kAN, who is new to the game: 'I feel really bad for the poor guy that has to do the maintenance on this train'
Me, who has played this game before: ahahaha yeaaaaah .. future surprise incoming!
You actually got me to play the game again, even though I've maxed out every license, it's fun vrooming trains around :D
The easiest way is to cut your max weight in half (200 for DE2 and 700 for DE6) to adjust for the 3% grade as the load capacity is calculated based on a 0% grade. This is good to know for when at places like harbor and you are just shunting within the yard (you can then get closer to the limit advertised)
Alternatively, you can add the tonnage for the train cars up, then cut them in half and use the advertised numbers (400 for DE2 and 1400 for DE6) when calculating.
Kan look up Yosemite Valley Lumber rail grades on youtube. 27% grade!
A recommendation from my job (not train conductor, but close enough): concentrate on makinng the job properly, you'll get faster automaticly (in other words: screw the bonus)
btw: had the same problem comming up from the food factory but I chose taking another route before reaching the top
some hints (to get the bonus):
0. irl: take pen and paper to make some notes
1. choose a contract and put it in your inventory (so it won't despawnn) (accepting will be step 6)a
2. check the map for your route and check the yards you like to pass
3. spot the train by checkinng the contract
4. take and align the engine and couple it to the train, releasing the brakes (but don't move the train)
5. put all switches you can reach the way you want
6. accept the job
7. start the trip to your destination and take your time
8.1 keep your eyes o the track and obey the speed limits, the speed limit counts for all of the train (careful with long trains)
8.2 except you're going uphill, than you should keep a close look on speed and engine temp, don't loose your momentum (my recommendation: play with the throttle, there should be a point when your temp is climbing slightly and so does your speed and the setting below should cool down your engine slightly while loosing some speed), even crawling means, you have momentum left
9. when approacing the station or passing one, take out your comms radio (switching device) and than either do it like in this video, if you have a save speed, go forward or just reduce the speed and keep an eye on every switch (remember the notes)
10. bring the train to a complete stop, so all cars are between the track signs
11. go to the station and finish the job
anyway, it's just fun to watch you struggle with this game, i can really feel you being overwhelmd :) and thank god, you're livinng on another continent, less chances for me getting injured by you being close to a train
I love it but new stuff is so expensive. I mostly run things from the 60s to 80s
It wouldn't be as fun. One of the things that makes trains and train games so fun is the sheer scale of things.
That hill out of the food factory got me the first time, too. Wound up rolling backwards back into town and hooking up a second engine.
Watching you operate the regulator and breaks is causing me so much anxiety.
You can always switch locs in one of the cities if your loc is damaged.
just so you know, shunting jobs useful as you load up create more long trains which then become availabe as jobs on the table
So glad i found this game through your channel, picked it up over the weekend and have been playing it on pc and vr!
Just a tip check and ready the train before accepting the job to give more time. It also allows for time to set up
kAN in Railroads Online: spreadsheed caculations say I can pull up exactly that many trailers on 4% gradient with the Mogul. kAN in Derail Valley: Can my engine even haul this many trailers? Whatever we'll surely be fine! :D
Before you are buying the bigger engine, maybe consider getting the multiple unit license, so you can use two locomotives to deliver goods.
I love how they fit a value of 15k in a 1" thick stack of 10s. That's impressive.
Speed limits aren't suggestions. They're limits. That's why you don't go above them.
I think they’re more challenges myself.
@@TheSuperTrousers fair
Just a heads up u can also use the f1-f8 keys for the throttle, reverser and both brakes, frees up the camera movement When driving
That's some good insurance coverage to destroy all the goods and still get paid.
your copay goes up every time you buy a new license. it starts at 100 but starts to climb rapidly once you start to buy licenses. for example Hazmat 1 increases copay by 38000 bucks
More please I love this series
Hey kan if you get issues like you did in this one or run out of sand you can pay fees at one of the stations you go threw to retop fuel and sand and will fix the engine aswell.
That was really funny when you saw the fee's .. but since you paid all the fee's your engine is now 100% ok refueled and full sand etc. As you buy more licenses your co-pay will go up and up and up until you are paying for everything you break. I derailed a long fuel train and got a 500k bill... ouch , took me ages to pay it off but you can do it eventually. Good luck.
save up for multiple unit license if you really wanna progress in this game and safely pull more than 3 cars at a time.
theres keys to sheds you need to find (keys for sale at places), 1 has a handcar and the other has a caboose. the caboose shed keys are for sale at city for $25000
That was fantastic. Exactly the kind of content I look forward to.
I don't know if it's been said or not, but "gear" 3 your engine will never overheat, but any higher the temps will run away and it will over heat
Don't forget to tell your streaming buds also :) thanks
P.s. It's well worth the 25000$. I don't regret it as first purchase in game
Dude, I need more derail valley videos from you. Keep em coming
Im so happy that some of my favorite channels are playing my favorite train sims
Hope I can get my vr fixed before the simulator update
he gets all the warnings
Be aware the weight limit for the train is on flat ground. So going up mountainous terrain can easily become an impossible task for a train that looses too much momentum on approach
kAN, from playing Railroads online: I'm a genius!
kAN, playing Derail Vallery: Oh no
you really gotta print out the new license details before you get one, Pay special attn to how much the deductible goes up
Also, pick jobs that pay more per min, I did a FH job that was 375t ish and it paid over 35c/min Now that was a tough job getting up the hill outta the yard without stopping or going into shutdown...
Try using the fan! It may not work in reverse but it doesn't hurt to see if it helps!
Kan could have his own episode of Mayday: Air Disasters, with trains instead of planes.
Didn't prepare the cars before accepting the job
Didn't check which way he should go in the switches
Didn't care about topspeed and engine maintenance at all
Derailed, and spent more than necessary to rerail
Didn't check if all the cars where connected correctly and had to come back many times.
Even after that he failed to check the map before too late and Derailled a second time.
Stalled the engine on a hill and tried to hold a 276 ton cargo with just the independent brakes (That was just funny)
All that with 18 minutes to go
In real life you wouldn't be allowed to see a train ever again 😕
There's a very old adage that's very true... "Haste makes waste."
Next time you haul to Machine Factory and Town, take the route past the steel mill.
This gameplay is perfect. It has Derail Valley, derail and valley
he should plan out his route and map all the grades then bring the 2 engines when going up a 1.5 with 300 tonnes
Always check each trainwagon after a derail. Just an advice from a fellow engineer.
couldn;t help but notice, you left the old DE2 Running and didn't pay your fees Kan. That's using diesel until you pay your fees or until it runs out of diesel. you don't have to decouple to finish contracts. but if you aren't paying fees then no one will be servicing the old loco and switching off the engine for you.
Hey man love your videos you do great work and make they enjoyable to watch Keep up the good work👍🏻
the blocked train-yard at food factory is bizarre, usually the path straight through should be empty.
Go for the sh82. It's the steam locomotive. A lot more powerful than the shunter. Will help you earn money faster
26:36 please oh please, don't go left. Get your multi-engine license. Get 2 - 4 switchers.
I would really like to see you attempt another long train. With two engines. While slowing down a bit.
Kan the insurance goes up every time you buy a New license
You dont have to check if you still have all the cars at the back. if you had lost one you'd loose pressure in your break pipe and would slow down automatically
Yeah thats why they invented this type of brake system in the first place
Watching this after Simulator has come out is wild. Missing controls, backwards controls, only 3 engines….
In today's episode, kAN learns about watching speed and following speed limits.
The fan didn't work in build 91 of the game but the devs said it was meant to be for the driver but never added it n apparently made it so it cools the engine but uses more fuel
got stuck on a hill like you today before i saw this episode. my problem was that i didn't check the weight of the cargo before setting off. was 418 T. ended up getting a secound train and jump between them. bonus time was 21 min. used 59 HEHE
hit the fan for the engine temp probelm. it ain't much, but it's honest work
