MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.

Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Frankie is such a wonderful dog. You always show something about Frankie from turtles to getting beers. Your cabin is just great, it has the older look to it that you see in magazines or if your exploring the woods you see that from years ago. Great work
The dog playing with the terrapin was so funny. That siding was awesome!!!! So beautiful. You have to feel very rich having that lovely cabin. And, the wild life in that lovely spot is pure joy. Thanks for sharing.
I am amazed with the number of folks that are following my cabin series. I love the little place and will continue working on it and filming the progress. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you for the kind words. I am very pleased with the way the siding turned out. It really blends with the forest.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you Jeff. Chase your dreams man. There's nothing more rewarding than that.
Thank you for the kind words. All the best to you.
Thank you. If you ever get the chance to build one, put your heart and soul into it. Your efforts will be rewarded in many ways. Best of luck to you.
Best of luck to you with your dream quest. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Yankee. Your kind words are much appreciated.
Mornin to you too. Thank you for the nice comments. I have been very anxious to share the progress with ya'll. Yeah Frankie cracks me up with his antics on a daily basis. He's a hoot that boy. My shirt says "Swamp Talk Outdoorsman's Forum" and I have several different designs. Funny you mention it but the last few weeks I been running a clearance on them since I decided not to carry shirts anymore. Swamp Talk is a forum that I own.
Thanks for watching and all the best to ya.
Thank you John.
Thank you buddy. I am very pleased with the way it came out. I'm anxious to get back to work on it but have too many irons in the fire at the moment.
Frankie did make a heck of an ending though didn't he? He has me laughing everyday. All the best to you.
Thanks buddy.
Thanks Jake. The thing is, a person has to work a LOT harder and spend a LOT more to live in the city and they do, then they dream about a simple life in the woods the whole time. People work too hard to have what they can't wait to escape from. Build yourself a cabin buddy.
Rewatch this video every few days, never seen siding quite like that (I've seen allot) and I love it. Make sure you saturate the exterior with a few generous coats of a high quality clear preservative. Put it on with a pump up bug sprayer and back brush it. Just mask up the windows and you could go around the cabin twice in one day easily. Use a quality pump sprayer, you can even clean the sprayer out with terps and reuse it again. I do this all th time and works great.
Good Luck, Vinny
Thank you kindly Sir. I am very pleased with the way it came out. I have pictured it with the siding ever since I built it. So nice to see that vision materialize. All the best to you.
Good luck with your project Matt. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you Mark. A man just needs a cabin to escape to so follow your dream. Best of luck to ya.
Thanks Man. I appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching.
Boss, that siding is a work of art. How often do you hear people say that these days? You did an amazing job. Boss, you’re an inspiration to us all. God bless you and yours!
Hi Louise, Yes the addition could make a small bunkroom but the bedroom will be added on the opposite gable some other time. For now the bunk beds will have to do. This addition will be a bathroom, closet space, storage area, etc. After I tackle the interior, my next project will be the solar panels. Yeah Frankie really cracked me up with the turtle antics. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you Grizz. I'm very pleased with the way it came out.
Thank you. It does fit the woods now don't it? Can't wait to see it with the snow flying.
Thanks Johnny. All the best to ya.
Frankie is a hoot for sure. You should have seen the live display of him & the turtle. hahahahhaaha
I watched this video when it was first uploaded. I love this cabin series. This video just popped up in my feed. I love watching it again. Knowing that J C will be moving back here makes me want to watch the whole evolution of that camp again and again...........
a little siding makes a huge difference. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you
Thank you. I like the ATV access too but it sure makes an adventure out of getting material in. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Lassie. Your kind words are very much appreciated. I played the artist game for many years, travelling up and down the east coast. I don't do it anymore so creating graphics, videos and woodworking is a good outlet for my creativity. I don't think I will ever stop creating things. Thanks again for commenting.
Thank you much. I hope to have another cabin segment coming soon. Thanks for watching.
Thank you kindly.
He loves all toys and he has several. He knows them all by name to and will bring them on demand. Fun dogs but they sure are a hundful.
Thank you. Yes I built log homes for many years. That carpenter for hire BS is all behind me now. Glad I did it and glad it's over. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Very nice!!!!
Thank you kindly. This isn't my home though, just my getaway from home. One of these days I'll make a video of my actual homestead since I've been asked several times. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Frankie is one heckuva beautiful dog! When I see him, I admire the coat, the bladed bone in the legs, the dark eyes, the headpiece. Yes, I once handled show dogs in the ring! I always have an eye for a nice specimen, and Frankie pleases the eye!
He sure is a pretty boy. I told him this morning that he's a fine specimen and that put an extra bounce in his step. :c)~
It made a big difference didn't it? I'm lovin it. Thanks for watching.
Thank you Dan. All the best to you and yours.
Thank you Sir.
Thank you. It's been a tarpaper shack for way too long. Thanks for watching.
Feel free to give me a shout out if you'd like but please don't repost my graphics anywhere. Thank you for watching. I'm happy you enjoy my videos.
Frankie displayed his herding instinct right from the git go. He's quite the character that boy. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you. Stay tuned and follow along with the cabin progression. Thanks for watching.
Just too busy making a living right now but I have a few in the works for this month. Thanks for the words of encouragement.
Great looking cabin. You and Frankie are a great pair. Enjoy your videos greatly.
You have a earth given PHD in encouragement and motivational vloging.I truly believe you were meant to do what your doing Thanks for sharing your way of existing on this earth.
Thank you for commenting.
Thanks buddy. I'm pretty stoked about the cabin looking like it is. Been waiting a long time to get this siding on it. Frankie and the turtle... he's gotta make a game out of everything. Anxious to install the solar panels hav have cold beer waiting whenever I arrive out there. All the best.
Glad you enjoy my vids. I hope you get to build your own cabin someday. A man just needs a cabin to escape to. I don't know the name of the song I used. It came in a package of royalty free music that I am licensed for use in my vids.
This addition will be a bathroom and storage area, closets etc. The bedroom will be added to the opposite gable at another time. Thanks for the comment.
I don't know how I found your videos but I am truly enjoy watching them. Love your videos keeping them coming 😃
***** Happy to hear you enjoy them and thank you for saying so.
Thank you. I have always wanted to try siding like that and so glad I did. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you. Nope I can never be stagnant. I may enjoy some R&R but my brain never stops creating and planning. Always been this way. Still LOTS to do on the cabin since I haven't touched the interior yet. I've got some cool ideas in the works. All the best to ya.
Thank you. The rockers are made by the Amish, they are very comfortable. and fit right in at the cabin. Just the ticket for a coffee in the morning or a beer in the afternoon.
I have 6 grand in the building including the addition but I'll be dumping about 2 more grand in it next week. Personally, if you are buying the lumber, just get the regular stuff from Home Depot. Most of the framing lumber came from HD. The rough boards in the ceiling and siding came from the property but all the other stuff is store bought. Just do it a little at a time. This cabin sat wrapped in tarpaper for a few years. Go for it. You won't regret it.
If I ever had a cabin, yours is what I would want it to look like. Absolutely wonderful. I really enjoyed watching it come together. A sawmill is something I could watch in operation all day long. Great video work, and loved the ending!!! God Bless your cabin homestead.
Thank you Isaac. All the best to ya.
Yes, It will be getting a few coats of oil stain. Thanks for watching.
Thanks. I was gad to get it overwith. Thanks for the comment.
Happy you enjoy my vids. I'm excited that the cabin vids are gaining such a following. Thanks for watching.
I'm intending to do just that Vinny. Hopefully get it done this summer if the rain ever stops. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you my friend. Yes I was home builder for many years, log homes mostly but the only carpentry I do now is for myself. I can enjoy it this way and I do. I am very pleased with the way the cabin is coming out and enjoy sharing that part of my life with everyone. It's been fun for both Frankie and myself. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I have a pneumatic sprayer but I get a much better saturation by using a brush on the rough wood. As soon as I have time I will be staining it with an oil stain. I'd love to keep the natural look but I've had much better success using a tint rather than a clear preservative. Glad you enjoy my vids. I hope to get some more vids going later this month. Just too dang busy right now.
Frankie the turtle whisperer!!! Great final product on the cabin Boss!!
just can't get enough of the old video's!!! Thanks so much!!
Thank you Dave. Glad you enjoy them.
Your pencil work is wonderful and the deer & cabin sketches especially....you captured the woodsy feelings they represent.
One of our favorites... so inspiring! The children just love watching Franky!
+Sean & Mercy Hoyt Frankie sure has his fan club :-)
I love your laugh. It makes me happy to hear it. Frankie & his turtle friend were hilarious.
Thank you kindly. I appreciate the comment.
Thank you. I built as far back as I could. If I owned another mile, the cabin would be that much further in.
Thanks for watching.
Tour videos always put a smile on my face. U n Franky r quite the team. Thanks for making me laugh today. I needed it. Keep those videos coming
This is my dream, and you are living it! Man that cabin looks great, and your property is amazing...birds chirping , trees swaying...one day I hope to live like this! Thanks for posting, subbed!
This is the easiest and cheapest life to maintain so go for it man. Seriously, if you knew what little income I lived on you'd wonder why you work so hard.
Thanks for subbing.
thebossoftheswamp I am inspired by your life style. I currently have a 2300 sq foot farm house and it is eating me up on mantainance. I have some options due to owning 78 acres of land...What did the cabin cost you so far? I am working on the wife. I am tired of spending all my hard earned money to maintain a big house.
selfbow hunter.
All my furs are put up in the shed I have at home. Eventually I will have a shed at the cabin too but too many other projects need my attention right now.
Luckily I had enough to pick through so I didn't have to use the black stuff. I left the east wall unsided because the next addition will be going on there. I will be staining it with a high quality oil stain in cedar tone. I'd love to leave it natural but there's nothing out there that I know of that will keep the natural look so stain it will be. Yes that up and down shit is for the birds. I need to teach Frankie how to use the miter saw. Thanks for watching.
Just WOW! Beautiful work, dog, music, and mindful approach to life.
ooooh my... my heart skipped a beat at that siding... exactly what were going w at our off grid home.... loved watching this. just beautiful ♥
Thank you
i love that look of the siding, i used to have a border collie to, he was a lot of fun
And once again Frankie has enlightened my day, what a character he is. Nice job on the siding.
Yeah he has a way of doing that sometimes. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you. Yes we get down to a deep freeze for about 5 months here.
Thank you. I appreciate the comment.
Thank you. It's coming along nicely.
You are a true Renaissance man. You can do it all. Great job and hope it brings much enjoyment.
Thank you. I will be adding updates to this project from time to time so stay tuned. Good luck with building your getaway.
Thanks buddy. I appreciate the comment. Yes Frankie is very obedient when he wants to be.
Great job. I love the way you left the natural edge on the siding. Very classy...
Absolutely beautiful....The siding makes it perfect, your work amazes me and I know for a fact there are not a lot of others out there that have our wonderful skills. Frankie your the best...oh Boss your not so bad yourself, even if you are taking to the gentlemen and fellas and guys, us ladies like it as well, at least I do. Can't wait for the next one, oh yeah, just started watching you today, so have lots to go through....up next....ready, set, go.
Thank you. You can say that because you didn't see me burn my pile of mistakes before filming LOL.
All the best.
Thanks buddy. I appreciate the comment
Enjoyed the laughter having fun with Frankie, I was chuckling along with you. Thanks!
I don't normally make comments on video's I've watched but just found your page today, subscribed and have been entertained while learning some interesting stuff. You're, from what I can tell, one of the good guys. Smart, funny and talented. I've got to say that Franky is pretty remarkable too. Keep posting brother and I'll keep watching.

Anyway he was my way of getting walking time & away with working with computers,i live in a very green part of Scotland & wet part lol,so yes for me 2 it is a delight in having my dog called Gizmo.
That is one great dog loads of fun. Well I tell you you did a beautiful job. I like the way the edges of the siding form like a wave. The over all look is rustic and beautiful. looking forward to the other videos. Thanks.
Hemlock makes great framing lumber though. Very strong stuff.
