    I know everyone wants a natural finish but I think it would look very good in a solid, simple color like dark green with 2 white stripes. I would love to see that

      José Cruz, 60 Cycle Hum, yeah it would look like a Ford Mustang car, witch is badass, just like an HH Mustang. I think Fender used to do that a while ago with the Mustangs and it just looks great. Also a black pickguard would be cool.

    Red knobs would look killer. I think leaving it unfinished is rad, as over time, it's going to darken where you're touching the most, so it will get some cool wear patterns.

    I do agree with you that this guitar doesn't want glitter it wants basics. When you put that red kill switch on the pickguard it vaguely looked like Eddie Van Halen's Relic Wolfgang from 2017 tour. I am going to do my Mustang with that Relic pattern.great ideas you have and good intuition about modding guitars.

    The final product looks good. It looks yellowish while you was playing it. Great sounding guitar. The kill switch is a good mod. I think you should put a clear coat on the wood to protect it over time. I’m pretty sure the wood might start getting dingy looking after awhile. The finish on a guitar or wood is also meant to protect it and prolong its life, it’s not just for vanity. Nice effects too.

    Have you ever tried a burned/charred finish? I think that would look cool. Whatever ya do I'd do SOMETHING to the raw wood. I know it's a cheap guitar but it needs some sort of protection. A few coats of boiled linseed oil and paste wax on top would be my suggestion for keeping the rawness. About as easy as it gets too.

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  6 років тому +1

      Chris L yeah, I did the burned thing once. Honestly if I change this guitar I’ll probably be doing some kind of colorful paint.

    That guitar would look great in a very light blue. Like maybe Daphne blue. While it looks okay now, I think after a while the raw wood is just going to look dirty without some kind of protective finish on it.

    I really like the natural look for it tbh, seconding the tung oil idea. The red button looks really goofy and out of place on it, a white one to match the pickguard would have been much better, but that's just like... you know... my opinion man.

  • @bengalvin9932
    @bengalvin9932 6 років тому +1

    HEY RYAN! i think a racing stripe would look cool if you get the right color you have the red from the kill switch so maybe think about that. other than that get your friends to each draw/paint some thing on it and that would make it that extra bit special.

  • @ndeli55
    @ndeli55 6 років тому +1

    Man, for all of us watching, and for sure me, this feels,like a cop out. Even a tinted poly finish would be better and offer protection from humidity changes and sweat. If you want to go really cheap, get some rit fabric and use it to color the wood. It feels like your plans fell through and you took the easy way out. Hell, even metal specks gold from duplicolor would be a better answer. It's not as sparkly as metal flake but it's pretty flashy for a rattle can.

    • @60CycleHumcast
      @60CycleHumcast  6 років тому

      ndeli55 people seem to be split on it. For the time being I’m loving the raw wood look. I’m sure I won’t keep it this way forever, I’m always messing with my guitars.

    • @ndeli55
      @ndeli55 6 років тому +1

      Man, it's your guitar, you should do what you want. To keep it playable, I'd want protection from things that could cause playability issues. Even a satin poly would help. I just think with your surf flair, you'd like something more flashy.
      I like the red knob Fender amp tribute idea. Think of this, metal specks silver, think aluminum like the chassis, then satin clear to tame it and red Fender amp knobs and that kill switch. Could be nifty.

    I know this is a weird question but I was wondering if it was possible to put a tele neck on a LPJ body ? Any ideas? I have an idea over all what I wanna do but I don't see the scale length working out. Any suggestions welcome.

    • @ruslanhouk
      @ruslanhouk 6 років тому

      Cale Staton yea the scale length is a huge issue, youd have to redrill holes for the bridge or install a new one all together. Warmoth makes custom guitar parts but they can be pretty pricy.

    I’ve got a kit Tele build I put a bright red ordinary gloss paint on with a brush and I think it looks really good. If you put it on really thinly, keep the brush moving you get a kind of kids wooden toy finish. I’m told if you mix in a bit of water it makes application a little easier but I only did my Tele so I’ve no experience of that. Just a thought..

    You could go subtle - like Competition Orange with a checkerboard pickguard. A little tach dial on the upper horn. Thrush bird on the headstock.

    You have a very nice guitar. You can refinish it in a coupla years if you take a notion. It seems to make a lot of racket even without paint. I do like the kill switch! You say its a breeze to install so I guess I'll order one. I bo't one of those guitars or that is i paid for one anyway. The store says they're out of stock and I hafta wait till they get a batch in. I'm a geezer so I hope I see the day when my Mustang arrives. The kill switch can sound so right if you know when to not punch it. You do pretty good with it. I c'nardly wait.

    I love the feel of raw wood. I'd probably still stain it (driftwood stain would be nice) b/c I like the color better than the blonde wood, but +1 to not coating it in poly or whatever. No need.
    And no, the wood isn't going to break down from skin contact. It's not like you're going to leave it in the bathtub or something. It'll be fine.

      I love how the matte chalk looks... my Les Paul is going to end up with that sweeeeeet vintage, aged Sonic Blue look from using the Serenity Blue!!

      I second the chalk paint idea. It's reversible, looks cool and makes much more sense as video content than just leaving it unfinished.

    Walnut stain and oil... it looks naked and cold like that. :c

    You might start a new craze with a plain wood finish....

    here this idea is for you dude I just shared it in a nother video take a guitar tuner in the form of a stomp pedal open the pedal take out the main board get a spare output jack plug it into the input of guitar tuner board plug wires joining the output jacks of guitar and tuner cut a hole in pick guard for the stomp tuners lcd display to be mounted later cut a hole for stomp button too be mounted latter mount the guitar tuner main board too inside of pick gauard then when you push the stomp button on your pick guard your tuner will light up and be ready too tune your giutar at any time you choose built in guitar tuners im surprised guitar companys haven't figured this out yet ive been doing it for years that is called a mod hacking a device to do other things not just upgradeing it oh yes you need too make a clip in hatch into pick guard for 9v batery

      How often do you have to replace the battery with that set up? - steve

    • @TheBriggs13
      @TheBriggs13 5 років тому

      if you look at back of any Chinese pedal the battery door is a plastic rectangle hatch that clips into a slot of plastic cand be done on pickgauard

    • @TheBriggs13
      @TheBriggs13 5 років тому

      @@60CycleHumcast or you could extend the battery cable get one runs on 9v make battery cable long enough too lay under pots cavity so just un screw hatch change battery no need mess with stings or plate just 3 skrews to change battey when you push stomp button on your pick gaurd tuner turns on when you push it again tuner turns off not using battery

      @@60CycleHumcast one more thing main board too tuner is very small and very flat not even a fraction of the size of its housing

      yeah, im not into the tung oil solution. If i do something else with this guitar it will be more dramatic than that.

    If you decide to destroy it like the Epiphone, don't. Send it to me, I'll take a video playing it, send you the video and then send it to someone else, they can do the same and you can do a video series of the travelling Squier Mustang! Everyone who plays it should also sign it and include just their zip code to track how far it goes.
