  • An unnecessary mod but I had some small momentary switches hanging around and I do love a bit of glitchy, high gain power chords.

I love that you're having fun modding an inexpensive guitar. Some folks are too worried about the investment of mods on a cheaper guitar, saying that they don't want to put pickups or other pieces into a guitar that costs less than what they'd spend on a more expensive guitar...and then they never buy the more expensive guitar. If you like the guitar and want it to sound better, just put the work in. People do it with their cars--why not their guitar?

My philosophy is if I am buying a 2000 dollar guitar, I am doing very minimal mods to it. Squiers tho? All damn day I'll mod them.

I am the opposite. A bought the mustang with the idea of sprucing it up. New tuners, which are needed anyway. A new bridge since the one that it comes with is crap and nearly maxxed out in the back anyway. For beginners like myself who have only been playing less than two years there is NO NEED, yet, to spend hundreds of whatever currency you have. I want a nice new shiny guitar but that can wait till i learned on this one. Then i can reward myself with a nice one.

This series has helped me a lot. I've been able to see and order the parts I need ahead of time, meaning that my precious Mustang could be in parts for the minimal amount of time. Thanks!

You have inspired me to mod one of these too. Mustangs are my favorite body type of guitar. I was thinking about getting black grover lock in tuners, and painting the scratchplate a flat black, installing some dimebucker humbuckers for a very metal version of a mustang.

I need to see this! What did you use to paint the scratch plate with?

I sanded off the glossy finish and used a flat black spray paint from a department store, then a sealer. I can tweet you the pictures when i am all finished if you like :) Do you have a twitter?

An NC kill-switch works if you wire it to open the signal path between the volume pot and the output jack. An NO kill-switch works if you wire it to shunt the signal path to ground. So either will work, depending on how you wire it.

Having the same issue placement of switch in my Jazzmaster I know where cosmetically it would look correct but it's not accessible as easy in that spot.

Ryan from 60 Cycle Hum also fitted a kill switch to his Andy. You know him right from Thomann uni? Cool idea. Might even do one myself? Cheers GG. Should be getting my Mustang in the post the next few days? I love getting new guitars. Like a big kid at Christmas. Also ordered a couple of Epi pro1 acoustics. Love it... ;)

Have you thought of changing the pickup lever switch to the Fender Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Mustang-style slider switch? That'd keep you from hitting it while playing...and look cool!

I have! I just like to have quick access when I'm playing and the JM switches are not so easy to grab. It's a possibility though

Do you know where I could find a killswitch like that? Only one's I've found are some pretty chunky and big. I need a smaller one just like the one you installed.

Had a kill switch on the volume plate. A toggle switch. I had it put in my 1966 fender mustang. Can’t show you a picture cause it won’t let me
