dude, this is such a great escape from politics, pandemics and natural disasters. thank you for what you do, brother.
Steven Peterson well said. Watching Ryan’s vids are a wonderful escape
LOL channel the spirit of Bob Ross,"Right here we're going to put a happy little tree".😁
This looks really really good. I love the colour. Never has watching paint dry been so entertaining. Thanks Ryan, I love this series of videos you’re putting out
20:06 I think they have pills for that these days, Ryan...
You were even working your arm under the table when you said it lmao! xD
That nail-polish lady is a keeper, interested in helping her husband with her own deep knowledge base. She's probably a little tiger on the weekends. I should go hang out at Sally's Beauty supply or the nail-polish aisle in Walmart.
Definitely has that brushed metallic look. If you don't use a anodized gold pickguard I'll be so upset. It would look gorgeous 👌
RAT FINK GREEN!! hell yeah big shout out to ed "big daddy roth" may he r.i.p
Great shirt. I'm all in for those surfrock vibes.
Surfrajettes are an awesome group. All are great players and have the vibe.
The group is really good. I love the theme they have going on.
Looks like gold leaf! Radder than I thought it would be for sure.
Oooooo, I love the way it looks! And I'm really glad with the aproach you took. I live in a small apartment and I have nowhere to safely spraypaint stuff, but I can totally refin a guitar this way.
I'm really digging this look. It'll look great with clear coat!
Looks great! Really enjoying this series haha. I painted on an acrylic paint finish on my strat and love the brush stroke textures. All for DIY/experimental guitar finishing techniques!
Love how this came out !!
I love the way you attack projects- first, have Fun!, all the projects I've watched seems to show how anyone can do it; affordably! I purchased Posca Pens you recommended 👍
I just refinished my jazzmaster with just some spray paint, and sandpaper. Just waiting for the new pickups to come in the mail.
Love how you can see the grain thru the gold paint
so excited for this guitar
Gotta say, I love the texture you're getting from that tiny little brush. :)
Good job. Ebay selling tip...take a picture of the guitar you are selling in the sun. As you've noticed it makes everything look great.
At first I thought you were a little crazy for going through with the nail polish idea, but I'd say it was success
this is so much fun
Thanks for ur videos dude! I'm creating a guitar and I've been having the nail polish on my mind too. I keep jackn and wasting all my mom's coolest colors nail polish and she start in to get pissed lol , and I had to keep redo n it cuz didn't look as cool as in my head . So dis help me a lot gave me and idea ! Hope mine turns out tite!
You could do a relic on it so that the parts that have a lot of contact would be smoother and more comfortable to play.
I like your videos a lot and you seem
like a cool guy. That is why I’m leaving this comment.
Most people who actually experience poverty would say that a guy who makes UA-cam videos for a living and can just ask for free equipment that costs hundreds of dollars should not be using the word Ghetto in that way.
This looks great. Before you clear it, make sure you give it a day or so in the sun, rotating often, and leave it on something reflective so the sides get good coverage. The last thing you want is your clear coat cracking because the paint underneath is still too soft. Also, poly blocks UV, so however cured it is when that poly goes on is how cured it's going to stay, so you want to make sure to do a good job getting it to cure.
Hi, i have Yesterday order a Color i found Inka-Gold and Inka-Lack i will test it on my DIY Strat this are great Colors and simple to work with i hope it is good. LG Detlev
I likeed that under that gold you could still see the wood. For me it gave that Goldfinger vibe "we might paint that women gold buy you can see it was human underneath and not some plastic crap".
I was waiting for you to upload this for so long 😂
Damn I don't often leave comments but I hope you read this, this series rocked man. You should maybe possibly do something else like this in the future!
Keep doing you. We are here for it.
The Rustoleum glitter clear is designed to bury their glitter paint and goes on fairly thick. It doesn’t have the drying time of a 2K but also won’t cause cancer like a 2K.
In the sun it’s pretty amazing.
I do not have the rustoleum glitter clear at my local hardware, putting glitters on the clear before the final clear coat also works!
and yes indeed it looks beautiful when it gets hit by strong light
Love it!
Is it too soon to start thinking about the pick guard? You've gotta paint that too.
Something like a rusty brown or weathered daphne blue w gold stress lines.
Almost looks like a gilded finish. It's cool
it looks good! =]
The other sealer/ topcoat to consider if you want bury any raised surfaces of nail polish is Rustoleum's Glitterseal, It's a spray to cover glitter thicker in fewer coats so you don't feel or remove the glitter (or nail polish as your doing).
My eyes aren't getting the green vibe from this. If I didn't have the context of the gold spray paint base coat, I would just call this gold. It looked a little green in the sunlight, but I really liked the greener green from last time. It's still really cool though. I still think it's funny that, when you stripped off the old finish, you said you weren't going to do gold again, though. :P The heart wants, what the heart wants. ;)
Only Ryan! I've used it for touchups, but not whole thing. Looks great though.
Awesome
Still not sold on it... but here I am, in it for the duration to see if the end justifies the means 😂 Gitter' dun Ryan 👍👍
I would thin it out as much as possible with alcohol and spray it on in the thinnest coats possible. It is basically nitro so getting a mirror-like finish is doable. No idea what your doing but good luck. I hope you like the end result no matter what method you use to get there.
I like it.
I think that color on a squier jaguar (headstock too)would be cool and little 'ratings artwork of your own somewhere. I loved the painted mustang in pink with eyeballs all around
*rat fink type artwork
8:51 would it work if you smear it out with a sponge or something?
Fuck Yeah Kendra! Bringing the info.
Repaint... and thin no more 😂 looks cool kinda like hammered finish
You should definitely do a relic job
Personally, I would thin the nail polish with acetone or thinners and use either a air brush or a mini spray gun. You then have a cheap form of nitro paint.
Dig the color! Not sure about the texture? Gold below definitely helps.
"Gold jerry ....GOLD !"
I like the concept. I think I would of dumped it all out and used a 1 inch brush...lol
You should try those paint markers like the ones for model cars
Got kind of a gold leaf action going using the gel polish brush. It looks cool
Gold leaf would be pretty interesting on a guitar. You'd have to clear the hell out of it afterwards, but it'd look pretty sweet.
@@jttech44 i've seen it done in small amounts for like a graphic, but yeah still have to put a heavy clearcoat.
@@nathanhall4593 Yeah, I could see it being more suited to silkscreening a graphic or a pattern moreso than the whole body, because it's difficult to hide the seams. Not sure if they sell sheets that are guitar sized to avoid that problem either, if they do, they're probably spendy $$$
@@jttech44 yeah and it all depends on what karat you get too.
Only idea I have is to pour the bottles in a jar, thin it out, and apply it with a clean cloth.
This project of yours spawned a reboot of my first electric guitar ever. I gutted and rebuilt my Fender Squier Strat from the mid 90's. Got my hands on a left-hand neck. I never bothered completing the paint only laid a nice base of automotive white primer... me and my kids are doing a gelcoat nailpolish right now and this is CRAZY! Do you recommend thinning the gel color coat? Looking back how satisfied are you with your results? I will love mine regardless but this is a whole ordeal with a man-child leading and 3 that range in age from 13yo-5yo... I feel like I need an adult!
Notable that I followed this video back when you made it, rebuilt my guitar, and have just played it for 2 years with a primer white paint job... your fast-forward segments make it look deceptively quick and easy LOL
You should relic it next!! :D
jimi hendrix famous painted flying V was painted with nail polish by him.
kendra simons is MVP!
whats that blue guitar with the gold pickguard behind him?
Ryan Beaulieu I can't remember the model, but the brand is Pure Salem.
Pure Salem CREEP, inspired on 60's Burns guitar models
The color looks great outside, but in the lighting of your filming area, it reminds me of chihuahua squirts.
I have used nail polish to repair dents or nicks in guitars for years .
Gold, golder, goldtst.
I smoked a blunt and went ham with my discount nail polishes on my first strat which I'm in the process of rebuilding. I freaking love how it turned out!!!
OK my curiosity got the best of me. I looked on Amazon. Nail polish is Lacquer paint, and it comes in some of the craziest colors. I'm ordering some for my airbrush. LOL Just put some good clear over the top and it should be good.
Eventually I want to get an airbrush rig and try it with nail polish, let me know how it goes!
@@60CycleHumcast You'll have to thin it out alot to use it in an airbrush, but outside of that, should work just fine.
I would hidrodip it with the nail polish. That way you get a consistent layer
cool shirt. surfrajets rule
Dam I forgot to add glitter in the mix!!!
Ryan: if you ever need to prop something up for painting that has an irregular shape, try and use some large construction blocks. I have a collection of the cheapest ones that exist that find at garage sales. I tend to like the ones by Megablock as their quality is not as nice as Lego Duplo.
Let's do this!
I recently painted a bass body with dollar store nail polish. It's a little gloopy, but I kinda wanted that. It's the 90s John Petrucci Ibanez finish on the front and I painted an asexual pride flag on the back of it. I haven't cleared it yet, but I plan on just using clear nail polish top coat for it. So far so good though.
Well I never liked any of these but TBH I don't not like it either. But lol. I wanna see the damn thing through too.
15:40 super glue my dude. Just have a supply of the thin stuff and some gel. A 2 stage epoxy can be handy also
20:10 that's a badass table
Kinda looks like you followed my idea but in a weird twist. Sparkle clear after smoothing and polishing.
Reminds me of the Dick Dale strat.....
Exactly what I was thinking
You could just do twenty more episodes of this. Stripping it down and refinishing it in some wacky way again and again. I'd watch it, anyway.
ALWTunes I honestly want to just get a pile of blank bodies to experiment on.
it will self level if you gloop it on and leave it, if you brush it thin then there is nothing to level
I like the golf leaf look it has due to the small brush strokes... but didn't say you didn't want to paint it gold in like the first episode? You do you man.
its green now
@@60CycleHumcast I clearly missed where you said green @0:58 I just thought it was a different shade of gold... my bad.
I ran into the same problem with asking if anyone had ever used a hot knife to strip a guitar finish. Didn't get any yes's but I got a lot of "you should do this instead" referring to either using orbital sander or a heat gun and a scraper (both methods which i have used). But while I'm here, how about a video on stripping a guitar finish with a hot knife?
Brian Overby hot knives are used for other things
i dont have a hot knife, sooooooory
@@60CycleHumcast search UA-cam for hotknifing. Mabe you like it
@@60CycleHumcast that's alright. Does t sound like too many people do. Just curious if it's something no one has ever tried before or if it was tried and failed fantastically. Guess I'll have to wait for my next tear-down.
Chemical stripper is really what you want to use. Makes short work of it, very little if any sanding required, and any residue comes right off with mineral spirits. Once you try it, you'll never sand paint off again.
So, here we sit, cobwebs starting to be spun attatching our inactive bodies to the desk, the chair etc. while watch in some kind of hypnotic dazed catatonic state WATCHING a guy paint a guitar with nail polish with the tiny brush that comes in the lid of the bottle, brushing, brushing, brushing, and then brushing, brushing, brushing, and then brushing, brushing, brushing, as the world continues to turn, fascinated watching the brush strokes then BAM! "Time flies when your havin' fun, right guys?' HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! He must have realized the absurdity of an audience watching a man doing such a tedious job! Watch again, you can see it in his eyes! Hilarious!
the fact that I can pay my bills doing stuff like this is the biggest joke of all.
The kids should have gotten in the running car...
I'd love to imagine some lady couldn't buy her nail polish because this dude is painting his guitar, It's hilarious
Next guitar is going to be a Wallpaper Finish just like LEO FENDER ?
Darrell M you mean like a paisley?
@@60CycleHumcast yep. He used wallpaper and clear coat on the first ones. I bet you could too. That's James Burton vibe.
Darrell M I’m not against giving it a shot
If it works for you I am going to buy a cheap squire and do it too.
I wish I would have seen this before I purchased $135 worth of nitrocellulose and supplies to finish my newly built strat 😅
At least our easy to please!
On the next episode of Leave It To Cleaver.....
Are you a leftie? Or do you paint both ways?
im a lefty
@@60CycleHumcastyou play guitar right handed? Or have I missed something in the last 6 months I've been watching?
@@60CycleHumcast guitar looked awesome by the way.
Donald Straiton here’s the thing. Guitar is two handed. I fret with my dominate hand. Lots of players that are way more talented than me do it that way too.
@@60CycleHumcast kinda makes more sense really...
Get yourself a bigger paint brush. Pore your bottles in a bigger container. IT'LL be lots quicker.Good luck.👍
NARP!!
Don’t suppose that viewer recommended a nail polish color that could fill in Pelham Blue? lol.
Just go to a store where they sell this stuff, find the colour you like and buy that
I don’t think you used the right kind of “gel”. The gel she spoke of is the same as the stuff they make fake acrylic nails. It won’t dry in the sun (might take a really long time). You need a real concentrated UV light to make it set and it does self level “according to my daughter”. Lol
yeah I know that now. she commented on this vid too ;-)
Please can you do your paint videos in real time? I want the full Bob Ross experience
Put stars on it
I accidentally ran into these vids and enjoying them alot,so much that I ended up buying an Azor fuzz(really a muff) and an Eno phase shift pedal.
It's a good thing that women watch your channel, lol. You don't want to have just a sausage party. 😉😏
#notaperfectionist #captainmycaptain
Again i gotta say thin it an airbrush but have it your way, your having fun at least.
Please just use a bigger brush!!! It will produce a much better finish...please!
Sorry but we don’t do stuff like this in the ghetto. Mostly cuz we couldn’t afford guitars. But please do carry on.
Rat king green? Say what?
* rat fink artwork of your design
...Did you just ASMR me bro ? ? ?
.
Very Dick Dale.
What, no montage music? Unsubbed.
