I realize that there probably isn't a lot of late game content out yet, but I did want to take a moment to say thank you for posting a build for early and beginner characters. Almost every build video for any game shows off what you need late game, and especially for a game like this, it is refreshing to see a quick guide on "here's a few items to set up flavor and give you something to look out for". Being able to have a direction or get into that character early on is very cool.
Completely agree. Early direction is appreciated, but I should stress two things for new players. First, the option of choosing Stonesword key as an early keepsake as they are hard to find, but the Golden Seed is the more immediately useful and you can purchase keys from Patches in the Game. Second, even if you pick a class, you can change it and respec characters later, so encourage new players to stick with what they have and find better gear instead of restarting the game for another class.
This is exactly the build I wanted to go for. Thank you for showing me how I should set up early game. This is my first "souls" experience and I'm loving every minute of it. I'm just kind of lost
@Jake Neilson my biggest problem with the game is that there is no quest tracker. So knowing the next step is near impossible though I had someone sum it up greatly yesterday " it's like beating your head off a brick wall, but eventually you find a loose brick. On the other side of that loose brick is something very rewarding and satisfying entertainment wise." Couldn't have said it better myself
@@billycook7701 took me about 15 minutes. I’d say I beat those two guys near the fire pit probly 60 times so it is a grindy quick farm but if it’s the first thing you do it is just about 15 minutes, and gets you enough runes to 16, like the vid says.
Worth noting that you have to kill the guys actually wielding the Brass Shield for them to drop it, and there's only a few in that camp so it might take awhile. I did find one within half an hour, but if ya don't want to farm a specific spot you'll eventually find one attacking soldier encampments throughout Limgrave anyway. I've found multiple since. There's also soldiers wielding a Lordsworn's Shield, which is taller & rectangular; the only drawback to that one is it's a heavy load so you'll need more endurance. Otherwise, it has comparable stats to the Brass Shield with a slightly higher guard boost, lighting damage absorption, and physical attack power.
@@billycook7701 It's RNG based so luck plays a factor, but if ya keep killing soldiers wielding the v-shaped Brass Shield they'll eventually drop it. Just gotta stick with it. Consider it practice for every obstacle you must overcome in this game really. All about persistence.
For the Ashes of War talked about @2:15 you need to go a little further than just the jump up the cliff with the giants on it. The rider is up a further cliff towards the large overhead bridge, if you look to your right you should see him cresting the hill and you'll need to go around to get up to him.
I think I just found it. You have to keep following the road and cross the bridge where there is a huge ballista thing. You should just be able to run through on your horse. You’ll eventually come to the barricade with the bonfire on the left.
@@WillShrop go right, there is some fallen stone construction to go around and then look up towards the massive bridge, there should be a large cliff face and the rider is on top of that.
I just beat him! It was really rough but I found a way! In regards to the black knight you have to kill, bring a spear (the partisan from the commander of those guys take carry the Brass shield can work too). You’re going to use ONLY the heavy attack of your spear (R2 or RT). Then make sure you’re on your horse the entire time (much easier to dodge attacks). Use your wondrous psysick? Flask either mid way through his health or in the beginning for an edge (use Golden Vow too if you want but it won’t last long). Keep readying your heavy attack and close in on him just enough for an attack of his to miss. You should be able to get a good three hits in with this. Keep going and keep an eye on your stamina (at 10 endurance I could get one good hit in then had to retreat). Rinse and repeat! Good luck Tarnished!
I spent hours failing to nab the partisan. Finally, I simply sent it at the knight. Horseback seemed semi-safe but unproductive. If you follow the video exactly, he actually isn't that tough. On foot, shield up, and with patience he's down before you know it. Nice to know about the spear tactic, though.
Just beat the knight myself with the starting confessor sword and the shield. My tips: lock on to the rider, and constantly hold your shield up and strafe to the right. Your goal should be to get on the rider’s offhand side, where he cannot hit you at all. Be wary of the flail swipe, and chip away at him. If you drop his horse, get the riposte and back away to force him to resummon it.
@@uum6 yeah this is exactly how I did it. I said screw the horse and just decided to go on foot, block with the brass shield and give him a couple whacks. Patience was key. Lol Also used golden vow when he did the wind up attack, as I found it gave me the most time to give myself a buff for that extra damage.
To find the mounted knight "on the cliff" for the first ash of war (golden vow) I have found the time stamp in which he actually directly has his cursor on the exact location of this boss (and am posting below), I hope this saves everyone some time and stress as I have spent hours trying to find... Pause exactly at 2:36 Hope this helps guys!
It took me 2 1/2 hours to get the brass shield. And that was with using a descent stealth route that allowed me to kill four enemies holding brass shields in about a minute. I did level up a lot though in the process.
Damn. Guess I'm lucky it only took me 45 mins. GOtta love it when the guy says it should take 10-15mins just because he was lucky enough to get a drop after that long XD
I caved in and bought Elden Ring, and this is what I'm starting with, a tanky battle nun. As this is my first FromSoftware game, this has been really helpful for giving me some early direction in the game. Still trying to take the Night's Cavalry down--for now, I'm just exploring and trying to level up more.
Thanks for this build!! started with it and it did really me, specially the shield ash. Didn’t really like heal or golden vow though, found sacred sword ash which also makes weapon scale with faith and is much better IMO. Also replaced heal with lightning strike incantation to have some ranged power too and my god that is wonderful, i feel like an overpowered badass now enchanting my weapons and throwing lightning spears
Confessor has to be my first play through pick. Seems like a great melee/casting middle ground. Excited for all the new vids that are gonna be on this channel now that elden ring is actually here! The demon souls content was a game changer for me since I never got to play the original and had no clue how to make a build worth using. Best RPG channel on UA-cam.
@@quickpawmaud So vagabond vs Samurai. Which is better for jack of all trades?(faith, int etc). I guess 100 block is good for vagabond but samurai has a bow.
Been running a similar build only with the Lordsworn's Greatsword equipped with the Sacred Strike ash of war (found by the Third Church of Marika place of grace north of the Mistwood, it's just up the cliffside path to the north. Kill the gray scarab in the middle of the road near the updraft to get the drop). However if you follow this guide for a shield build, and do a lot of Co-Op, I'd also recommend picking up Shabriri's Woe as your keepsake since it will help you draw aggro as a tank. Praise the Sun!
Man I've spent 2 hours trying to get that shield. Got 5 swords, a war pick, 2 full armor sets.. no shield !! EDIT: Finally got the shield - just PS it would be great if you actually showed the map for some areas, took me forever to find the knight for Golden Vow and I have no idea where to go for Barricade
My experience with this build so far has been decent. I've beaten a few bosses, the wolves and the sheild help alot. Dam that fight with night calvery made me question if I should be playing this game. First started off fighting him horseback, failed horribly hardly did any damage. Tried to fight him on foot hugging his left but he moves in a way that his left side is usually protected. My play that eventually beat him was taking it slowly. When ever he made contact with my sheild i would parry and each parry did some decent damage, and whenever his left was exposed hit him with 2 or 3 light attacks back up get stamina up rinse and repeat. Not sure if I cheesed him but this being my first soulsborne game I think finding a strategy with a hard boss was very rewarding. Looked st guides and everything they didn't work for me. But that parrying strategy really did the trick
So far I've noticed playing the confessor that dragging out a boss fight while formulating a strategy is the way to go, I keep a few spells handy incase I need to put out magic damage and secondary weapons incase I need to change my fighting style on the fly which is making him a well rounded class for me, although i do need to start building more into a tank now
I agree, had the same experience, took me 1h I think, thank god that he spawns next to a fireplace, so it was some good blocking and counter training for us darksouls newbs :)
I would like to wholeheartedly thank you because of your build I enjoyed elden ring even more. I’ve completed my first playthrough with your maliketh black blade build and that was a blast! Now i want to start as a paladin and switch later on to a blasphemous blade build later on so this build was exactly what i was looking for!
Great guide. It will be helpful if you show locations on map for recommended items. (Brass shield and so on). I will start with this build. Thanks for showing us :)
i am LOVING this class since its my first from soft game and the shield and possibility of using faith based magic later on for range makes him just perfect for me
Have u been using the guard counter? After an enemy hits your shield you immediately press R2 and u will do an amazing counter move. Every single time as long as u have stamina
Y’all the knight is not in the area where he jumped. After you jump you gotta head more towards the north past the foggy forest and he’s near the castle and big structures. He’s around those cliffs.
IF you are doing a Dex build for your Confessor, use the Twinbird Kite Shield (medium)...it is lighter than the Brass Shield and only requires 12Str. The Twinbird Kite Shield also have a passive that boosts your attack/defense when your health is under 20%.
About 6 Hours in following this build and I gotta say its perfect for beginners to the Dark Souls genre like me. Being able to block heavy attacks with barricade and distract with strong summons really helped me pick up the boss patterns a lot quicker. Awesome stuff Fextra as always
@@Kango234 If you haven't gotten it yet. Search for Castle Morne Rampart site of grace on the Elden Ring interactive map. Rest there and change time to night. You will see the knight spawn just on the road. He is a bitch tho so best of luck!
For anyone else having trouble finding the lonely knight w/ the Golden Vow, it's quite a ways into Stormhill. You'll want to look in the spot which is just east of a building which is positioned just south of a break in the large bridge. If you know where the Deathtouched Catacombs are, it's the spot just to the west, but, that's just to help locate it. You need to approach the cliff area from the west. You can also think, go north from Warmaster's Shack, through the forested area, then veer right before the bridge to go up on the plateau. Go through the plains toward the building directly in front of you (you'll be traveling NE) and on the eastern side of that building you'll find a sole knight, pondering his thoughts. "Should I have taken this vow? What would my life have been like if I never took up the sword? I remember when I was a child, my mother teaching me to bake. I can still smell the fresh bread. I could've had my own bakery ... It's too late now. Some days I almost wish someone would venture out here, actually challenge me. And to best me? All the better. They can have this vow. It's only left me lonely."
If you have trouble getting the Night Cavalry down for the ash of war, the Great Turtle Shell shield comes with Barricade, it's in the same spot as the Night Cavalry, just take the updraft into the top of the ruined tower with torrent and its in the wreckage.
Would like to be a paladin dex build. Instead of leveling strength, like precision weapons like rapier/estoc, Spear, or katana with holy damage and healing spells
The Black Knight was ridiculously hard. This guide undermines this fight for some reason. Large health and VERY tanky. I beat him by staying on the ground and blocking his attacks with the gold shield he said to farm for. By blocking I got couple of hits in whenever he was close. You lose no damage by blocking. Also, he does a move where he does a heavy slam and if you’re right up on him he can miss and you can get a lot of hits in. He also runs at you on the horse but doesn’t attack and I got hits in that way too. My method took long to fight him but worked.
Go way south past the starting area near the Tree Sentinel. The knight is in the Weeping Peninsula. Stay on the main road south until you see a girl on a bench. Talkng to her, she gives you a letter for her father. You're on the right path. Keep going through the canyon, riding or fighting, until it opens up. Off to your left is a Grace and camp fire with a vendor. Go here first. Pass the time until nightfall and then you'll see the knight patrolling the road. You're in an area where you can't use your ghost wolf pack, good luck. I'm lvl 24 and I still haven't beat him, but I'm going to try this strategy later. Keep going south on the road and you'll unlock the map for WP and c come to a castle guarded by the big boss he had in the video where he was demonstrating the brass shield against the boss. Good luck!
@@aphexskin "underpowered and need to farm" ok but it would be useful to know how much you farmed before killing him. Wearing gold shield? How much into vigor (assuming you were following suggested build in this vid)
Hot take: For a starting gift, the best item to go with would be the stonesword key. Let me explain: There is an imp gate right outside of the tutorial area. The area is relatively difficult, however, there is a reason to go for it. Not only is there the equivalent of the Ring of Favor hidden there, but you also get a really strong summon as well as a Golden Seed for defeating the boss, who is tough, but they have a Marika Stake right outside its door. On top of all of that, killing the boss nets you around 12k runes, which will bump up your levels significantly. So you're looking at 1 Golden Seed vs a max health, stamina, and equip load trinket, a golden seed, a 111 FP summon, and 12k runes.
Most people won't be able to beat that boss for a long time, so no reason for that to be the starting gift for that purpose, however just for having more keys in general it's not a bad choice. Going to that boss after playing for a few days and I had a very hard time and even all other player summons were getting killed very quickly, not a beginner friendly boss at all.
Given the map is ridiculously huge, it'd be pretty helpful if you actually showed where enemies locations are so people aren't running around an area for half an hour searching for it.
The only thing more stupid of him doing a guide with half the information you need are the people telling you that is ok that the guide is half assed, cause if I want to find stuff for myself I WON'T BE LOOKING AT A FREAKING GUIDE.
Thanks for the video. You've got a new subscriber. Going to start with the Confessor. I've got no experience with Souls games, and this seems like the most forgiving class. Really looking forward to playing. My countdown timer is at 4:10:15 at this moment!
I picked Confessor the first time i played, and surpisingly, it is a very good class. The broadsword does a fair amount of damage, and the skill is pretty good too. Although the longsword has more range, the broadsword is still a pretty good weapon for the start.
Getting that brass shield totally transformed my first play through. I got shield barricade too but I barely use it. Also that tip of pressing R2 after a successful block was something I didn’t know that made the game so much easier. Now the game feels much easier .
Started a new character last night. Vagabond, already farmed a full Godrick Knight set, Lordsworn’s Greatsword with Sacred Blade, and the Brass Shield.
I was already going down this route with how my play style has been "evolving" but your added tips and main focus for stats/items to get has been super helpful, thanks so much!
This is my first time playing Faith build in any Souls games, simply because I just want to use lightning for once. I thought I was fucking up my build since my stat is all over the place, Strength, Endurance, Faith, Vigor, a little in Mind. Good to know that it actually does need a lot, and I haven't gone off trail too much on the stat.
People talk about how he didn’t show the locations on the map How long have you been playing the game? I just got it. Just reached 20 hours. The first zone he shows, you can get to 5-10 minutes after stepping out into the open world. 5 or less minutes if you run straight there My point is, if you play the game and stay on the main course, you’ll reach these areas quickly and recognize many of them already. If you don’t recognize them then are you playing the game? What are you, 1 hour into your first play through, yet already looking at builds?
Thanks for this great video! Really helped me get started on my paladin. Would love to see a more advanced guide for the paladin mid-game. Like what kind of armor is out there, what weapons are viable options for the paladin?
I'm really going to try to see if a dual shield build is realistically viable in ER as there seem to be more tools to make it so (would love to see a video on this, though it's obviously a very niche topic), but Paladin is definitely my backup plan. Regardless, I'll start as a Wretch since I have no investment in PvP or min-maxing and enjoy the scrappy beginnings wearing whatever drops for the first few hours.
I started as a wretch, i played the whole night and i finished my cession with buying a pair of boots and glove. Lol i only found 1 armor (the ugly green one from the first knight) and their sword. I bought the chain mail from santa claus the bard, in the first church. I really enjoyed the wretch. Everything you puck up is worth it. Doesnt feel like i am given a character.
I almost started as a Confessor. I love faith characters usually. I inly played Demon soul tho. I skipped The 2nd and 3rd. I know Arcane is linked to item drop. I didnt like sup 10 (which seem to be the average middle ground to start). So i started as a wretch. I got 16 str so far. And 12 in my other major stats. I found a Pata which require 30 faith to use. I'l be pumping my faith to 30 so i can use it. Well, it might take a while, lol caus i need more endurance for wearing my gear, more vit to survive...so we will see how my progression goes. But i am not doing main quest for now. Just ex0loring and setting up my character. Once i feel my build is ready, then ill do main quest.
I haven’t even done much yet, just killing some of the guard guys and killed the wolf man boss and I’m LOVING this so far! Controls are still hard to get used to though. (Mouse and keyboard)
I ended up swapping the Broadsword out for the Morningstar, basically the same stats and reach but adds bleed on top. Can be grabbed from the caravan right before the Grace near the Barricade Knight.
One thing you left out that you really want to get is the Erdtree's Favor, which you can get by using a stonesword key in the very beginning area. There's a hidden pathway to drop down to on the second ramp. If you follow that, you will be able to get it, just be careful of the enemy that drops down from above. It's effectively the Ring of Favor from DS 1, but it doesn't break when removed like its DS1 counterpart.
If going by older games is reliable paladins can definitely fidh out the damage as well. There are some really strong miracles in past games, and ER seems to have even more offensive options for us holy warriors who want to smite infidels.
My thoughts exactly! Thinking of doing str/dex no higher than requirements (I think there's a flail with 18 str req that would go nicely with the shield in this video). 40 vigor, 35 mind, 60 faith and as much endurance I can aford (will try to stay around lvl 125 until there's a decided meta). Would like 40/40 dex/fth for better casting, but I'm proioratizing more vig/end and hoping that high faith damage makes up for slower casting.
I'm new to soulslike games and decided to play Elden Ring as a Wretch. I had no idea what build I wanted to go for and decided to use whatever looked best. After defeating the Tree Sentinel, I made it my goal to get the stats required to use the Golden Halberd he drops and I used that weapon the entire game, essentially acting as a Paladin. I absolutely recommend that new players should go in blind as a Wretch like I did and use whatever looks coolest. It simply makes for the most freeform and therefore enjoyable experience. And if you're anything like me, you may end up as a Paladin build accidentally too. :D
I chose confessor as my character and killed the sleeping dragon and got around 95k runes to help send me off into the lands between! (I’m new to souls games so getting to level 32 almost immediately really helps)
This looks really good. I hate the get-out-of-jail-free-roll as the sole defensive option. It just looks stupid. That's not combat. I loved how stylish Sekiro's defensive options were and I want something like this from Elden Ring.
@@Lagustful You have to go past the forst cliff and get closer to those arches. literally had to pause and look for landmarks to find them. We didnt all play the game for 100 hours and know the map
So, question from a DS newbie: Would a build like this work well with a spear instead of a sword? I've been told that you can block while attacking with a spear which sounds super cool
You can use a spear and still do the paladin build it’s just instead of scaling STR you would do mainly DEX, so your sacrificing heavier weapons and damage for more stamina and casting time
@@distilledwill that is true however your still sacrificing damage for stamina, I see that as a way to get the most out of your STR stat in a dex build, your safest bet is to only invest in STR for weapons requirements until late game, because there’s no point in using a dex weapon with no END unless your damage just scales that much
Golden vow seems to add 10% to my damage when I tested the attacks. Sacred sword Ash of war is very similar and I think better. makes weapon scale with faith same as golden vow. adds way more (25%) damage but doesn't last as long. Also uses about a third of the FP. It's in one of those circular bugs somewhere in the 1st area. The bug glowed white but can't remember exactly where I waa
Never played a Souls game until now. This is exactly the type of build I imagined when I initially booted the game and looked at the classes. The only difference is in my mind, I was calling it a cleric. But thank you for this guide, this is a huge help to me for my first build evah.
The item from the "lonely knight" is called golden vow. This video doesn't do too well explaining where it is. It located between Warmaster's Shack and Saintsbridge. If you look at the map, there is a illustration of a broken bridge to the north of those two graces, the lonely knight is below that bridge and the broken square illustration. He is on that cliff. Hope this helps. PS: if you go to the warmasters shack and kill the knight berndahl he will give you incredible early armor, but make sure you buy all the ashes of war from him first. Good Gaming. WARNING THOUGH YOU WILL LOSE OUT ON THE CHANCE TO GET RAGING WOLF armor SET IF YOU KILL BERNDAHL.
I've started out using this guide and I really like the playstyle it promotes. Now I'm looking at options in terms of strong weapons that scale with Strenght and Faith. Any suggestions?
@@knfbnny I finally got it ( It's from the Tree Sentinel Right?) thanks to some Irish guys. Can you use it with a shield? It's got a 30 str requirement yikes
@@retardedvelociraptor I think you can two hand it at 20str but it will require 30str to 1h it with a shield Edit: I should probably add that when I say "working towards" the golden halberd, I mean that while the str requirements are high, I probably wouldn't just rush 30str and neglect other stats such as Valor and endurance.. I don't have the weapon myself yet, but I imagine it's much slower than the starting weapon but hit like a truck. The faith scaling comes from the holy dmg it does upon the normal damage you do when you hit. It's designed perfectly for us confessor bros
Location wasn't shown, but if you've poked around you'd know Stormhill had giants and a boss comes out at night. Good pointers on beginners build. I do not have a favorite character and before I spend too much time, I'm trying them all. Thank you for the pointers.
Can you PLEASE open your map for tutorials like this..? Lmao. Literally looking around everywhere for the Barricade ability mob and I'm freaking lost. I can't believe something so obvious is missing from a youtube tutorial
If you haven't gotten it yet. Search for Castle Morne Rampart site of grace on the Elden Ring interactive map. Rest there and change time to night. You will see the knight spawn just on the road. He is a bitch tho so best of luck!
Currently 2 hours into farming the Brass Sheild lol Edit - 2 Minutes after posting this it finally dropped. I sat there for a minute praying to the sun and the next clear it dropped. As an athiest, im concerned
This is the perfect kinda video for new souls players like myself. I was lost and confused on my original play through and came across this. Started a new build exactly how you described and I’m already better off on this play through than the original with half the time invested. The only suggestion I would make is please give better directions or show the map for those of us that aren’t familiarized with the map. Otherwise this is a game changing video that’s proven to be super helpful at least for me anyways. Good work.

Great Vids. I'm still torn between Confessor and Samarai. Might have to flip a coin.
I'm starting the same way as your video. But I two hand sword + roll instead with keyboard mouse in DS 3 and never locked on.
When can we see a STR/INT build, like battle mage, spellsword, dark knight
His locations are clear just use your compass and map
Recap:
• Choose Confessor
• Bonus Item: Golden Seed
1. Get the Brass Shield at the Waypoint Ruins
2. Get the item in the chest in the basement in there, which will allow you to equip Ashes Of War
3. Go to Stormhill and kill the mounted knight there to get Ash of War: Golden Vow for your weapon
4. Go to Weeping Peninsula and near a cavern near a bonfire and a merchant kill the mounted knight to get Ash of War: Barricade for your shield
5. Learn incantations at the round table prophet NPC
Stats and Attributes:
• Strenght (16 quickly in order to wear the Brass Shield)
• Endurance (a few points to equip heavier armor and have more stamina to block)
• Vigor (15-20 points quickly)
• Faith (crank almost everything here afterwards)
Like to get more people see this! Thanks for the vid btw!

Hope you play dark souls 3 or demon souls. And Sekiro. Probly the hardest but fun lol..... Congrats on first souls game
It's been 9 months how was your experience with this build hoping you finished this game
Note: When you talk about farming the Brass Shield, those are the Gatefront Ruins, not the Waypoint Ruins.
I've cleared this area several times. No shield yet.
@@billycook7701 took me about 15 minutes. I’d say I beat those two guys near the fire pit probly 60 times so it is a grindy quick farm but if it’s the first thing you do it is just about 15 minutes, and gets you enough runes to 16, like the vid says.

@@billycook7701 It's RNG based so luck plays a factor, but if ya keep killing soldiers wielding the v-shaped Brass Shield they'll eventually drop it. Just gotta stick with it. Consider it practice for every obstacle you must overcome in this game really. All about persistence.
I feel lucky. I've gotten it within 15 minutes every time I've tried.
For the Ashes of War talked about @2:15 you need to go a little further than just the jump up the cliff with the giants on it. The rider is up a further cliff towards the large overhead bridge, if you look to your right you should see him cresting the hill and you'll need to go around to get up to him.
Did you find the Barricade ashes of war yet?
Head south was a little vague in the vid
@@kfitzz nah not yet, not looked though
I think I just found it. You have to keep following the road and cross the bridge where there is a huge ballista thing. You should just be able to run through on your horse. You’ll eventually come to the barricade with the bonfire on the left.
So once you jump up which way should you go
@@WillShrop go right, there is some fallen stone construction to go around and then look up towards the massive bridge, there should be a large cliff face and the rider is on top of that.
Wow thats exactly how I did it too, like even down to using the partisan haha

It took me 2 1/2 hours to get the brass shield. And that was with using a descent stealth route that allowed me to kill four enemies holding brass shields in about a minute. I did level up a lot though in the process.
About the same for me lol! I bought a friend to show him the route and he got the shield on his first run through 😂
pretty much same here, i kept going back to those same ruins for levels later on, nice group of fast to kill mobs right next to camps

I’m so glad you taught me about the brass shield. My biggest issue with the starting one is it uses just so much stamina to block

Just bought the game today, waiting for the installation and this is exactly what I would like to try. Thank you!
Great guide. It will be helpful if you show locations on map for recommended items. (Brass shield and so on). I will start with this build. Thanks for showing us :)
The brass shield is dropping from enemy’s random in the camp near where you first encounter the maiden. They can drop a better sword too.
Can’t find the lone knight on storm hill that drops the faith conversion for the weapon….
(Edit: my fingers so fat)
Matching my background to what I see in the video even and there is no knight up there. Searching for hours :)
i am LOVING this class since its my first from soft game and the shield and possibility of using faith based magic later on for range makes him just perfect for me
Have u been using the guard counter?

For anyone else having trouble finding the lonely knight w/ the Golden Vow at 2:36 the map where the knight is pops up briefly
why didnt i look for your comment 48 hrs ago
About 6 Hours in following this build and I gotta say its perfect for beginners to the Dark Souls genre like me. Being able to block heavy attacks with barricade and distract with strong summons really helped me pick up the boss patterns a lot quicker.
Awesome stuff Fextra as always
Where was the Barricade? The video doesn't explain it and a lot of the other comments are confused too.

Would like to be a paladin dex build. Instead of leveling strength, like precision weapons like rapier/estoc, Spear, or katana with holy damage and healing spells
yehhhh especially with casting speed scaling with dex as per DS1
The flail is dex and quite paladin like
Exactly what I’m doing lol
Disregard what I said about the flail. It’s not worth it.
Check out the winged scythe for a holy reaper-style build
The Black Knight was ridiculously hard. This guide undermines this fight for some reason. Large health and VERY tanky. I beat him by staying on the ground and blocking his attacks with the gold shield he said to farm for.
By blocking I got couple of hits in whenever he was close. You lose no damage by blocking. Also, he does a move where he does a heavy slam and if you’re right up on him he can miss and you can get a lot of hits in. He also runs at you on the horse but doesn’t attack and I got hits in that way too. My method took long to fight him but worked.
Thanks Man U helped me kill him 👍
Dude how do I even get there
Go way south past the starting area near the Tree Sentinel.
Good luck!
The fight took me less than 5 minutes. You either aren't using your summons or you're ridiculously underpowered and need to farm.
So you're looking at 1 Golden Seed vs a max health, stamina, and equip load trinket, a golden seed, a 111 FP summon, and 12k runes.
what's the name of the item akin to the Ring of Favor?
@@andygarcia4960 Erdtree's Favor
Don't you need 2 keys to open that imp gate though
@@kylefracaro5087 Yea, you start with 2
Most people won't be able to beat that boss for a long time, so no reason for that to be the starting gift for that purpose, however just for having more keys in general it's not a bad choice. Going to that boss after playing for a few days and I had a very hard time and even all other player summons were getting killed very quickly, not a beginner friendly boss at all.
i appreciate lack of guidance for the holy vow ashes of war, really allowed me to get to know the area while roaming around for hours

I picked Confessor the first time i played, and surpisingly, it is a very good class. The broadsword does a fair amount of damage, and the skill is pretty good too. Although the longsword has more range, the broadsword is still a pretty good weapon for the start.
Turns out the Broadsword is better than any other straight sword (except in Keen infusion).
Thanks sooo much man, wanted to go str/faith since it was my favorite build in ds3, can't wait till it's midnight over here!
Getting that brass shield totally transformed my first play through. I got shield barricade too but I barely use it. Also that tip of pressing R2 after a successful block was something I didn’t know that made the game so much easier. Now the game feels much easier .

My point is, if you play the game and stay on the main course, you’ll reach these areas quickly and recognize many of them already.
I need this so bad

The beginning area as in the caves?

Took me like an hour to get the shield but happy to have it now.

Had a blast running Dragonslayer Great Axe + Faith buff in DS3 so it looks like i’ll be doing similar in Elden Ring. Thanks for the guide!

I'd assume so you've always been able to do this in the dark souls games.
You can use a spear and still do the paladin build it’s just instead of scaling STR you would do mainly DEX, so your sacrificing heavier weapons and damage for more stamina and casting time

Never played a Souls game until now. This is exactly the type of build I imagined when I initially booted the game and looked at the classes. The only difference is in my mind, I was calling it a cleric. But thank you for this guide, this is a huge help to me for my first build evah.
But I've been grinding that camp for 2 hours and no shield :(
life saver. Just out 12 hours into a wretch with no direction, so starting again with a re focussed confessor.
Any suggestions?
start working towards getting the golden halberd
@@knfbnny I finally got it ( It's from the Tree Sentinel Right?) thanks to some Irish guys. Can you use it with a shield? It's got a 30 str requirement yikes
@@retardedvelociraptor I think you can two hand it at 20str but it will require 30str to 1h it with a shield
Edit: I should probably add that when I say "working towards" the golden halberd, I mean that while the str requirements are high, I probably wouldn't just rush 30str and neglect other stats such as Valor and endurance.. I don't have the weapon myself yet, but I imagine it's much slower than the starting weapon but hit like a truck. The faith scaling comes from the holy dmg it does upon the normal damage you do when you hit. It's designed perfectly for us confessor bros
@@retardedvelociraptor you can use it with a shield but if you don't have enough strength you can try wielding it two-handed.
The humble Mace is great for this build. Strike damage is always good and it scales well for early/mid game. Can buy it at roundtable hold.
No shield after a two hour grind man luck was on your side !
Literally came here to say the same thing.
Miyazaki sends his regards 😅
Location wasn't shown, but if you've poked around you'd know Stormhill had giants and a boss comes out at night. Good pointers on beginners build. I do not have a favorite character and before I spend too much time, I'm trying them all. Thank you for the pointers.
Ha! I still say bonfire all the time too! Ace vid. I went a Confessor for my first go and enjoying it.
He is a bitch tho so best of luck!
this shield is just not dropping
Okay so the second i put this comment here the next one i killed dropped it lol
@@thatguyyouknow7804 he said waypoint ruins but I went there and it’s all plants. Is it in a different location ?
Currently 2 hours into farming the Brass Sheild lol
Edit - 2 Minutes after posting this it finally dropped. I sat there for a minute praying to the sun and the next clear it dropped. As an athiest, im concerned
I bet I cleared that whole camp 30+ times. No shield. Then I get three in one run. I love RNGesus!
Good work.
i really like the carian knight build, its an underrated build but a really cool one
