Thank you so much for pointing out the locations and showing exactly where to go. I've watched countless other guides and this is the first that is actually useful.
Another step I would recommend before you begin farming the soldiers at the ruins. In the SE section of the map visible at 6:21 is a bridge, followed by a fork in the road. Take the north fork and follow it to a church to find an item to raise the amount your flasks restore, and another essential restorative item. Also, I don't know if our dude wasn't summoning his wolves or jelly because he didn't have the FP for it, but they make farming the soldiers muuuch easier if you get them out

My "paladin" build is a quality str/faith build with the lordsworn strait sword and holy slash ashes of war. No other spells, dont want to waste points into being able to cast spells otber than the weapon art for the buff. Turtle up and deal suprisingly huge split damage as well. Its the closest thing ive come to mimicking the meta defining dark build in ds3 with LKSS and dark gem, but in ds3 yiud go dex/faith.. in elden ring its more beneficial to go str/faith for the carry weight etc. Plus the Lordsworn straitsword scales str/dex at E, faith at D with the ashes of war equipped. so no real reason for dex over str Also i recommend knabbing the crossbow in the round table hold to harass people who play more passive than you.
Just a heads up, equip load now scales with endurance, not strength. I’m playing a very similar setup but with a STR based bleed weapon. Really enjoying it.
I literally have the same build except I have more endurance and less strength. I also have to same sword and ash of war as you, however I put the “barricade shield” ash of war in my shield, it’s good but only in really specific moments, it also defaults that ash of war instead of the “sacred blade” ash of war. Which is annoying, is there any way to change this?
For the nights calvary guy I stayed off my horse and just did the block/counter attacks. I could not beat him on horse. The counter attacks are pretty safe.
This is what I did as well. Stay off the horse, block and back away/rotate. He will give you openings when he closes the distance and does lunge attacks.
You sound like my drunk uncle explaining something he really doesn't care about but knows a shit ton about, to some little kids he doesn't love but deals with
Two suggestion, after farming shield from Gatefront Ruins, you don't need to go back to the Site of Grace and reset. Just head to the area with the chest and the Whetstone Knife. If you've already killed the guards farming that area, resetting just makes it so you have to avoid them again. Secondly, it's more efficient to just follow the road east and then south to the Peninsula than having the navigate down the cliffs and across the water. You can easily avoid everything on the road getting there. Just my thoughts. Otherwise, very nice guide. :)
Thanks B2G for this. The vids have been extremely helpful with my first Souls-ish game. I started with the Samurai, but looking to an eventual hybrid build.

On the knights Calvary it is easiest to use that great sword you get from the chest at limgrave farming the soldiers. It has a pretty good reach and is easy to hit him, also yes use horseback and just time your attacks and dodge with torrent when he charges. Did it on my first try, is much harder with straight sword because of how small it is in comparison. I like to keep the great sword on hand for some mount combat. Especially the knights. Thank you, great video. I was able to find things easily. I wish I had your RNG, though. 2 hrs later, I'm fighting that Nazgúl (LotR ref) Anyways, another tactic I found easier was to chase the boss instead and be on the RIGHT side. His combos become more predictable, and with longsword, he is easier to hit. Lastly, it could be a bug, but as I was screaming for my life, I noticed if you constantly mount/unmount, you can dodge hits. As well as using that ruined building if you sit him on the ledge opposite of the grace. Free hits. Please note that killing his horse is useless. Thank you, sir
I find that killing his horse is the most useful, yes he respawns the horse after a while of him being on the ground but if you're quick enough you can get 2-4 back stabs and that absolutely destroys his health.

Just a heads up guys. This barrier shield ash isn't worth the trouble. You will end up with a weapon that you want to use the ash of war on but will have to flip to single wielding it if you have an ash of war on your shield... Pretty busted mechanic. Impossible to use ash of war on shield and weapon without flipping to duel hand wield. Once you get something like the feathered sythe or something you'll be using it's ability ALL the time and flipping to single wield it is just silly.
i have a question, for this game is it possible to unequip the shield and just use a 1h sword? i know it's probably not optimal, but for aesthetic purposes i'm curious. thanks!
There is a sacred sword ash of war on the ramp west(?) Of the third church of Lady where vial is. Head up towards wolf pride rock and you'll see a blue scarab that has the ash pf war. Instead of adding faith scaling sovyou have tri-stat. It lowers str/dex to E and adds Faith.
Probably the easiest, but also least enjoyable as you don't get to experience the nuance of combat in a souls-like. Play how you like, but I recommend going the hard way until everything suddenly clicks in to place.
To farm the shield. There was an early XP farm that was terrible now that the better ways have come out but it was great for getting the shield and there armor. I'm at work so I don't remember where on the map it was but basically you spawn at a grace then run down hill past all the guards and into the valley untill a giant blue spirit giant spawns then haul has to the left and sit behind a wall he will kill all the guards if your Arcane is decent they drop all there gear fast

i have a question, for this game is it possible to unequip the shield and just use a 1h sword? i know it's probably not optimal, but for aesthetic purposes i'm curious. thanks!
Yes
yeah just sheath your other hand and itll switch to 2handed
There is a sacred sword ash of war on the ramp west(?) Of the third church of Lady where vial is. Head up towards wolf pride rock and you'll see a blue scarab that has the ash pf war. Instead of adding faith scaling sovyou have tri-stat. It lowers str/dex to E and adds Faith.
First souls borne game thinking of running astrologer what do you guys reckon
Probably the easiest, but also least enjoyable as you don't get to experience the nuance of combat in a souls-like. Play how you like, but I recommend going the hard way until everything suddenly clicks in to place.
It's up to you dude. If you want to play as one go for it
@@megablah1 but I don't know if I'm going to miss swords lol
@@smokeygamerrr3767 you can always re-roll a new character
Masterpiece
To farm the shield. There was an early XP farm that was terrible now that the better ways have come out but it was great for getting the shield and there armor. I'm at work so I don't remember where on the map it was but basically you spawn at a grace then run down hill past all the guards and into the valley untill a giant blue spirit giant spawns then haul has to the left and sit behind a wall he will kill all the guards if your Arcane is decent they drop all there gear fast
I tried the confessor/paladín build but I find it too slow for me. I will probably change to something faster
Lol so much for open world! This is very prescriptive. Thank goodness you didn't miss anything.

@@Born2Game can you make time stamp ?
Can you PLEASE make a magic melee build?
I did the shield grind atleast 10 times still no shield. How much longer should I try?
It's not a game changer, the starting sheild also has 100% block, the guard boost on the brass is nice but it's not worth grinding for hours.
Im trying to find a soft cap for confessor, like strength, faith, vigor etc. right now im stacking vigor and strength but i do have my faith at 20. can somebody point me in the right direction? i tried wiki but cant find anything. i just hit level 60
just got this game been farming for brass shield for hours still cant get it evrery single enemy one hits me I don't understand this game the big horse dude in black completely destroys me. im loosing hope in this game
Great!
I uh... I ignored the strength stat and only really used it for gear purposes... I mainly pumped Faith and Vigor... Shit
Wish I could have the Nights Cavalry horse 😥
