I've watched just about all the tutorials on this camera and you've sold me! I'm after a wide range of features and this little baby has it all. Would have liked it to have 20x zoom, but that's $. Great video Dave.
This looks amazing. I don't even know what the video quality looks like yet but the customisation alone makes this camera amazing. Great work on the video once again Dave, editing was awesome! :D
Thanks so much for this video! I love this camera, but there is one thing that makes it almost unusable for me, regarding the zoom - I wonder if you or anyone can help me with this? I like to use "manual focus", and I focus the old-school way - zoom right in, focus, then zoom back out. I like to use the "Grip Rocker" for zoom, but I am finding that it is way too slow for me, even when I set it to the fastest speed of "16". Don't suppose there is a way to increase the speed of the Grip Rocket beyond this?
@ 7:20 AGC isn't for the audio levels. It's AUTOMATIC GAIN CONTROL for video gain (sensitivity) . It allows you to set the maximum gain limit the camera will use when in Auto-Gain mode. This stops the camera from ramping up the gain in dark environments and increasing noise.
Same prob on my XH. I use some foam which comes with lots of stuff we buy. It is quite and actually works great as a shock absorber and helps isolate noise from my hands or movement..
This looks like the camera for me! Stabilization is my big concern because I'm not to steady. I would like to walk with the camera and not get sea sick watching the playback. You really did not get in to that at all. Is it better then the canon XA10?
Hey, I have watched loads about this but I still wanna know is this camera, a good... I guess you could say, second base camera? I have been using the SONY a33 DSLR for 2-3 years now and think its time to start with some real filming equipment. Would you say this would make fit for me?
Thanks for this video,my question is,what is The lowest Bit rate for this camera?i sometimes shoot Videos for than 6 to 7 hours.please let me know because i will like to buy One in Addition to my XH A1.
Hello, you are fine? I followed your tutorial on the xf 100 camera. I would like to know how to make the settings to shoot in FULL AUTO without having digital noise on the images ??? Thanks for your help.
Thanks for answering some the questions I had about it. I've got two more: 1. Does the XF100 have cinematic modes or effects like the XA20? This would include things like Sepia, Nostalgia, Black and White, Old Movie, etc? 2. Does the XF100 record in a format that is compatible with imovie and other amateur programs?
No. And No. 1) The XF100 is a pro camera so it records a flat, low-contrast & fairly low saturation image. The reason for that is that it's assumed that the footage will be manually graded in post so they don't have any fancy gimmicks. They do have a feature which allows you to create and use your own custom picture profiles. They can be tricky to create if you don't know about knees, shoulders and pedestals, but a quick search online will show you what you need to know. The manual tells you very little because again they assume the camera will only be used by pros who will know all the technical stuff, so it doesn't bother explaining it. It's possible to go absolutely crazy in the CPP settings to make the effects you want, or there are plenty available online to download. They are stored on the SD-card. There are some built into the camera when you buy it, but most users make their own or do the colour-grading in post-production. 2) The XF100 only records in one file type. It's an MPEG2 format in an MXF wrapper. MXF footage can be tricky to use in some programs so check your software for MXF compatibility. There are some programs like PAVTUBE which do a great job of converting MXF footage to a format which is more suitable for amateur programs. I hope this helps Becky. Why not join our Canon XF 100/105 forum on facebook where there are plenty of users, some pro some amateur who are only too happy to offer any advice. It's a friendly group. Quick question, are the cards hotswappable? I'm coming off a camcorder that had that capability (the Panasonic AG-HVX200 recently had its P2 cards die of old age so I'm gonna just grab something that has cheaper media).
Great video, thanks, I have just bought one of these so it's good to know what the functions are, appreciate the AGC comment below, I already have the Canon HF G30 which is a great camera so was aware of this from that one. Thanks again for sharing.
Hello, can you confirm that to record movie on this camcorder you need CF cards and not SD cards ? and if yes, what sort precisely of CF ones do I need nowodays because I always have the terms "invamlid operation when I want recording ?? Thanks a lot
Do you have a video explaining custom picture settings? I shoot with the xf100 but I need to match my footage with the canon 7d and 5d Dslr cameras. Is there a cheat sheet or specific settings that I can put into the camera to make my footage look like DSLR footage. Color correcting in post is a bear and I would prefer to get as close as possible while shooting.
Hi Dave, when I've connected the rode-ntg 2 to my canon xf100 and shot a short clip, when I playback the clip on the xf100 I can't hear the audio. This is a bit of bother because I want to monitor the sound quality, can you give me some advice ?
Hi there, My xf 100 records very blurry on the sides, mostly on right side and top..video in the middle looks ok sometimes...is this a lens problem cos i tried all settings, even reset..
Hey I have a ( maybe stupid ) question but it is said that this camcorder had 2,37 Mpx but for reflex camera it is generally said like 16 or 14 Mpx, how can I convert the camcorder data to know the Mpx ? thanks
I have XF100 and I also heard the SD card was storing still photos from the camera. After 4 months of searching, I still don't know how to take stills with this camera. Anyone know??
I don't know if this feed is still being updated, but I got the camera and I had to learn there are specific ScanDisk cards to use an not just any company. When I finally figure it out, a 32GB will record for 1 hour, the only problem is, it breaks the recording up every 7 minutes, so which means I have to join about the videos when I put them on the time line, is there a setting to do one long recording or am I stuck with this break up in the recording or am I using the wrong memory cards or something?
I could be wrong, but every camera I've used does this. It's usually done in order to protect your video files in case for any reason there is a problem with the recordings.
Geekanoids - I have the Canon XF100 and the Rode NTG-2 mic. However, when I insert my microphone into the camera "Microphone Holder Unit" it is very loose fitted.. What are you using to hold the mic in place on the camera?
I bought a cheap mouse-mat from Tesco and cut a 2cm strip and laid it inside the mic-holder. nice and snug fit now. also, because it's fairly soft rubber it helps to absorb vibrations a little too.
Steven Andry other options O' rings used as spacers from screwfix, or made from self amalgamating tape , or reverse wind gaffa tape so not to sick to the mic or holder.

Good job j just got the canon xf100 but what remote are you using by the way with it thanks 🙏
Sorry I no longer have this to check.
Thank you, very organized tutorial.
Thanks. Have a great weekend 🤓👍🏻

Sorry I no longer have this, but do not recall a way of speeding it up. Normally there would be a speed setting in the menu.
Low tech solution to this one, I cut a rubber wrist band and wrapped it around, works well and adds extra isolation too :D

The joys of a small sensor😊
You're right. AGC isn't for the audio levels.

I also bought the Rode NTG-2 mic for the XF100 and have found it to be loose on the XF100 mic holder any tips on how to keep it in place ?

Thanks mate, just hired this for filming, and aint a clue about camcorders, this video helped me a lot
Hello, I loved your review. I am planing to buy this camera please can you tell is it a good all round camera.

Great camera, punches well above its weight.
+TK42138 Many thanks.
May have missed something, but how do you change the record settings? (Ex. 1080 or 720 or fps).

SD for settings, dual CF for video.
Would a ride video mic that is power supplied by a 9v battery work on these with a 3.5mm mic input?
It should do, but best check with Rode.
Lovely camera!
I have a Canon xf105 video camera and need some information in its menu
Sorry I no longer have this to check.
hi? thank you for your video. Wich external mic do you use, can i may have the model name and number ? regards thank you
I think this was a Rode NGT2.
At 7:20 . AGC is Automatic Gain Control. This sets the upper limit for auto video gain. Nothing to do with audio.
It works very well.

Correct.
What sort of bag do you use to keep the XF100 in ? I'm looking at the Lowepro Magnum DV 4000 AW, what would you recommend ?
thank you for the great video,,, but i have a question i can not record sounds with .; Rode videomic go,,,, using my canon XF100
Needs a powered mic I think.
Or check the settings for external mic.
@@geekanoids thankyou
Will the SDI output give me a full 1080p? or is it 1080i? How about the HDMI port?
dear sir my fx105 zoom not working the zoom button look likes stuck (button not working not going up & down} could you please tell what in want to do

GamePlayMaJic Amazon.
Great video. Nice bit of tech!

I am sorry I no longer have this camera.
Question: On the flip out screen it shows a green diagnostic looking graph in the lower right hand corner. What is this and what does it mean?
Sorry I no longer have this to check. It might be a histogram.

Many thanks for a nice video.
Hello, wich camera did you used to record this video? thank you very much
Hi there, My xf 100 records very blurry on the sides, mostly on right side and top..video in the middle looks ok sometimes...is this a lens problem cos i tried all settings, even reset..
It sounds like a lens problem.

I have XF100 and I also heard the SD card was storing still photos from the camera. After 4 months of searching, I still don't know how to take stills with this camera. Anyone know??
could someone please tell me where i can purchase this product in north carolina?thx
is the sd card is for settings where dos it store the recordings ?
Hey dave i wanna ask what type of tripod do you use for this camara? or what would be the best sturdy none shaking tripod?
+Carlos Alvarado I would use a sturdy Manfrotto and a good 501HDV video head or similar.
Thank you so much dave. Would a 502 work as well?
+Carlos Alvarado Yes it certainly would.
Dave one more question😊? What type of memory card would you recommend to get best video results?
I don't know if this feed is still being updated, but I got the camera and I had to learn there are specific ScanDisk cards to use an not just any company.

Hmmmm, I am not sure, I no longer have this. Maybe get in touch with Canon to clarify.
You need high speed cards. What are you using know? Anything below 95mbs will not work.
I could be wrong, but every camera I've used does this. It's usually done in order to protect your video files in case for any reason there is a problem with the recordings.
Will these files need to be converted to be edited on CS6?
+ImagesByDavid Should be OK.
what is that small camera light used in the video?
It's a Rotolight.
How can I convert MXF files into MP4 files?
