From reading the comments posted you did a great job. I miss a great deal of it because of our language difference. The images helped me to cross the language barrier ...
Thankyou so much for this, I didn't know where to start & you've helped immensely!
This was really helpful! Thanks so much
Thanks Maureen that's kind of you.
Nice. Thank you. Much appreciated.
Great guide to the Canon XF100. Can you do one for the JVC GY HM 600? Please.
Very helpful Tutorial....Thanks!
No worries glad it was helpful. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the tutorial - why 1280 x 720 and not 1920 x 1080?
very useful.thank you
Thank you :) I have to cam camera operator assistant tomorrow with that cam :)
Super useful. Thank you.
+Luis R. Betancourt Thanks Luis appreciated. All the best.
Thanks a bundle, I am in a foreign current and do not speak to language. I hired one of these videos, having never used one before, I thought it would be easy, but without your video I would be very lost.
+Felicity Woodhill Thanks for the feedback Felicity! Good luck!
Thanks so much for this video! I love this camera, but there is one thing that makes it almost unusable for me, regarding the zoom - I wonder if you or anyone can help me with this? I like to use "manual focus", and I focus the old-school way - zoom right in, focus, then zoom back out. I like to use the "Grip Rocker" for zoom, but I am finding that it is way too slow for me, even when I set it to the fastest speed of "16". Don't suppose there is a way to increase the speed of the Grip Rocket beyond this?
Very ilustred,thank
Thanks a lot. All the best.
Thank you!
Hi thanks for the great job i just got myself canon XF100 and the video output is black and white how can i fix it
Thank you for the tutorial! Would it be possible to ask if there is any equipment that comes with the camera to charge it or does the university charge it up again once you've returned what you've hired out? Thanks again!
Hello Bookish, Sorry for not replying sooner. We tend to charge the batteries ourselves but if a student is using the camera over an extended period we would probably give them a charger too. Cheers
Why do you use 25 p as a frame rate and not 50i? They say that the last one is better. Thanks!
Hello Bookish Metropolis,
We tend to charge the batteries ourselves.
Cheers
Thanks for this it was helpful. Still can't work out how to change the shutter speed. THEN Again I have only had it approx 2hours Maybe u could do one on canon dslr settings etc
+Nikky Gmedia Just noticed this Nikky, did you manage to get an answer?
Hi there, My xf 100 records very blurry on the sides, mostly on right side and top..video in the middle looks ok sometimes...is this a lens problem cos i tried all settings, even reset..
Thinking of buying this camera. I thought the presentation was very good.
So for the flash cards how do you get footage over to computer ? Do I need a converter ?! Or why would you recommend? I’m thinking about buying this camera I have a canon t7i but this one is more professional for what I do !!
Hi Chris. A CF card reader or a usb cable straight from the camera into your computer will do it.
Hello suppose I want to record for long periods lets say a conference kindly does it overheat or get overwhelmed by long recording periods. Thanks great tutorial.
Hello James, Sorry for the long delay in replying. We had trouble posting comments for a while. We've filmed long days of sport or conferences with these cameras and not had any problems. Good luck!
Many thanks ! Where do we find the sequel, please? You mentioned the next one is on transferring...Have you done a section on lighting by any chance? Much appreciated. Very well done.
Hello Kyle, thanks for the comments. This is the film we made on getting the footage into Final Cut X Work Flow: Media from Camera to Final Cut X
We haven't done one on lighting yet but hopefully we will do that before long. Thanks again.
Jamie Hare I have a microphone from giant squid. I have been told that the xf100 will only work with a self powered microphone using the 3.5mm is this true or can you just plug and play any lapel mic whethern it has batteries or not?
How come you want to use the internal mic when you're using an external. Is it better than just running your rode? Right now I'm only using my rode ntg1. I turned off channel two... What do you think.
+General HowTo Depends really. We were keeping it super simple for students that hadn't maybe used a camera before. Our studio space is sound proof so the internal mic will record good sound. However it is best to use an external for dialogue and if you're in an environment where there is back ground noise then definitely use an external mic. You can of course have one internal and one external and decide in the edit. Sorry for the time it took to answer that question I just noticed it. Cheers
+UWS Studio Team thank you so much
Can you plug in a lapel microphone with no battery (Dynamic Mic) in the 3.5mm conector and it will work or does this socket only work with powered/Condenser mics on this camera.
Hello Roger,
Sorry for the delay in replying we've not been logged into this account so have missed it. Can you clarify exactly which mic you have? I think it would work but not too sure.
Cheers,
Jamie
Black background and black shirt make a video about black camera hard to watch :)
+Бојан Квргић That's a good point. We'll think about that for the next one.
All my videos i did with this camera.
i have this camara and in frame rate there is no 25p to chose only have 24p 30p and 60p why is that ?
Looks like you've got NTSC version of this camera intended to be sold in America/Asia, European PAL version got 25/50fps
How long can the camera record for? Or does it stop after 12 mins like the 5D MII?
Hey, sorry for the massive delay in replying we had some issues posting comments so gave up for a while. No it doesn't stop I've filmed long events like sport, weddings, conferences etc... without a problem.
What type of memory card would you recommend to get best video results?
+Carlos Alvarado
Hello Carlos, on a personal level I've been using San Disk Extreme Compact Flash 60MB/s and they have been reliable. All the best :)
Hello I just buy this camera and record lexar professional 800x UDMA 7 when import IMac but can't open plz any idea ? and which program i use for file ?
+Dil Rai Hello sorry for the time it's taken to answer this. Did you manage to find an answer?
I don't know if this feed is still being updated, but I got the camera and I had to learn there are specific ScanDisk cards to use an not just any company.
When I finally figure it out, a 32GB will record for 1 hour, the only problem is, it breaks the recording up every 7 minutes, so which means I have to join about the videos when I put them on the time line, is there a setting to do one long recording or am I stuck with this break up in the recording or am I using the wrong memory cards or something?
Hello Sirrano, we've not encountered that issue to be honest. The only thing we would suggest is to make sure the CF Card you use supports the data rate you are working at. All the best
That is exactly the issue I am having....frustrating. Also, I can not figure out how to get the videos off the camera and onto my mac so that I can share it. It transfers over in MXF format?? Sound comes and goes too:(
hi jamie please answer as i am wanying to buy this camera can u use a wirless mic in this camera
Hello Glen, Just spotted this. Yes you can plug a Radio mic receiver into one of the XLR slots on the camera. Cheers
What tripod are you using I the video?
www.manfrotto.co.uk/pro-video-tripod-gr-sp
With a 504HD
Why do casting agencies ask us to use an external mic when recording a self-shot video audition? I can hear myself pretty well with the unit's built in mic.
Hello there, if they're looking through a lot of tapes it would probably help to have a consistency in terms of the standard they are watching. You will get a better result with an external mic although as you say in a quiet room the on board mic does give a good result.
Nice... Hello, can you confirm that to record movie on this camcorder you need
CF cards and not SD cards ? and if yes, what sort precisely of CF ones
do I need nowodays because I always have the terms "invamlid operation when I want recording ?? Thanks a lot
Yes it is CF cards. We tend to use Sandisk Extreme range. You do need to format (initialise) the card first.
@@UWSStudioTeam Thanks a lot
It works fine 😊
Hi Jamie,
How can I convert MXF (MPG2) from my XF100 camera into MP4 format
Hello George, on a personal level I find 'Pavtube' to be a good programme for converting files. Why do you need to convert them? So you can edit them? You should find most editing software just needs a plug in to enable them to work ok.
If you do plan to invest in 'Pavtube' I'd double check it'll do what you want it to first but I'm sure would.
Will these files need to be converted to be edited on CS6?
+ImagesByDavid To be honest I don't know. We have FCPX here and at the time had to install a plug in for the files. Sorry can't be more helpful.
+UWS Studio Team
Thanks anyway :)
MXF works in CS6 with no issues.
why would you want to record in 1080x720 with 35 mpbs when you can record in 1920x1080 with 50 mbps with 4:2:2? To save space?
Hello Alexander, We've a lot of students at the University of the West of Scotland so to cut down on the storage space needed we ask students to turn the resolution down a little. It makes a difference in terms of the data they use but the impact on their projects is minimal. If they were making films to be broadcast on TV that'd be different of course.
ah ok, thanks for the answer
What kind of tripod is that?
Hello there,
The tripod is a Manfrotto with a 504HD head. Cheers
Howwoww Oi wool shoow you ... coupl of batteres although i dont understand every second word , Thats some funny accent you got there :P
+Januszthekilla Ha ha thanks a lot
I HAVE A 128GB CARD IN THIS AND IT ONLY RECORDS FOR 8 MINUTES AND THEN CUTS OFF, CAN YOU TELL ME WHY?
+TheSirranoShow Not sure really. Even set at 50Mbps a 16GB card would last 40 minutes. Maybe a compatibility issue with the card. Sorry can't be of more help.
be sure to have UMDA fast card and 1.05 firmware update from Canon, then you can use 128GB+ cards formatted in exFat with no issues.
Bruh I still can’t get my shit to work 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
50MBPS 1080P 50i always always
Well we say 25MBPS becuase we've a lot of students and it helps with the storage load.
Hey, wait a minute... is this guy Scottish?
Ha ha guilty as charged.
