- 5 times World Rally Champion, Sebastien Loeb, swaps his Citroen C4 World Rally car for a Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car at Silverstone ahead of his first FIA test in Barcelona on Monday 17 November 2008 and Wales Rally GB on December 4th.
Still can't believe that FIA denied him a superlicense to race in F1 when he was already a certified racing superstar!
thats a shame
Stupid decision of FIA
The fans would have gone crazy and more audience would have come for both, WRC and F1
Politics
because rally driver would dominate easily...ask Walter Röhrl...
Driving a WRC car requires a totally different approach...
@monaro632
Yeah, so far he is the only driver to be champion both on 2 wheels and 4. Although I would argue Surtees was a better motorcycle rider. His 1964 title in F1 was a bit lucky too.
Why I think I know why f1 driving is much easier than rally but I still prefer rally
Modthisrc Rally will be always for mens, F1 since the 2005 its fucking boring and an incredible shit. Hamilton or Vettel on the 90's & 80's would been maybe formula 3 drivers...
lol keep telling yourself that. These cars make more downforce than any point in history. Yet those two are still winning. If anything, it'd be the older era struggling to keep up with the newer generation.
That's just plain wrong, there are many corners where the wet racing line does NOT hit the apex. Get your fucking facts right, just type "wet racing line" in google and see.
Yes, i've been a dedicated f1 fan for over 15 years now. And no, I don't like Alonso. I haven't really been a fan of anyone after Michael Schumacher-2006.
Loeb would make an excellent F1 driver, not only has he set very good lap times in the RB4 but also finished 2nd in the Le Mans 24h race for Peugot and won the Race of Champions multiple times. You know besides from being the greatest rally driver of all time with his currently 6th consecutive (nearly 7th) world champion title.
as if you needed any more proof how good this guy is, check out 2:14 where we catches the back stepping out on him, on his first time in an F1 car, thats insane! and anyone else miss that v10 howl?
+Harry Mac *V8
@@marcussundstrom4570 No the 2008 cars had V10's
@@CaesarAugustus27 The 2008 cars had V8s. 2005 was the last of the V10s
@@nath1606 yes I'm very sorry for that. I was wrong and I know that they had V8's but I completely forgot about the comment so I didn't go back to delete or change my comment. Sorry for that😅
@@CaesarAugustus27, no worries mate
Pure and the best skill in rally = the best in every races
he went to rallycross in Xgames and won at the 1st try!
Yeah i still remember that! Like he won by far!!
It´s simple, he is THE driver! He pushed that car real hard. Loeb is a DRIVING MACHINE!
Loeb = The most succesfull driver ever lived ! Better than the best !
come onmate ... the most complete driver of all time is french ... fast ... concentrate ... in all kind of surface .. and a super simple person , and you from his land say a shit like this , come on faby ... he s more complete even than schumacher and senna .. there s no way to compare a wrc technique with a formula one racer .... wrc is by far more challenging and more complex ,,, seb is the best of all time.... cheers dude , from brasil - sao paulo
we from brazil and sport lover as i am , pray for this dude !! hug from brasil rodrigo d tarpinian
This guy is fast in just about anything...if it has wheels, he can be champion at it
he wasnt the slowest he was quicker than ten off the 20 drivers which is nothing to be scoffed at
I saw Loeb over my land, here in argentina. He's an amazing! driver!
LOEB ...THE FASTEST MAN ON EARTH
yea you're right
look at schumacher , he was the oldest one and still had one of the best physical condition by far , age doesn't really matter i think , maybe once u get past 40-45 you might to start lose a bit of reaction time and so on
I bet he will be able to handle that F1 Car allot better when going sideways thru a corner than a official F1 Driver :D
@McLarenMercedes - I think Loeb would still win in a Ford. And with Hirvonen, Latvala, Ogier and now Peter Solberg making a comeback, he has some good competition. And in his early days in the wrc, you still had Subaru, Mitsubishi and Peugeot which were also very good cars. It's a shame to see there gone now though.
This comment aged well. He’s won in a Ford now 😆👌🏻
agree dude ... but you answered to the wrong guy mate ... cheers from brasil !!!
I hop you are right. I much prefer him in Rally anyway. As I said it is rumoured so I didn't know if it was true or not. Lets hope not.
the man was born to drive , agree
You are right, I just read the article. Well, that settles that. I look forward to seeing him in the WRC in seasons to come.

no mate..... in every kind of motorsport.... the rally world champion is the fastest on earth ..... and loeb is the most complete driver ever,.... even more than senna... and schumacher... or clark..... the WRC is the most demanding motorsport on earth ... the most technical ... so loeb is a fuckin monster... period
Of course he's much slower than the usual F1 guys. whats there to argue about? he hasnt done any tests before and he couldnt possibly have beaten them...
a few more laps and i think he'll get the hang of it.
Roars and Screams=Win Buzzing one=Lose God i hate those Loud buzz from people who think they can tune a car with a mufler.
wonder if f1 drivers or drivers in any sport when they race think what if the tire pops as I'm going round a corner I crash and die because that is all I would think about if I was in one of these machines
Billy Cameron They can't think about that because it will slow them down. Racing drivers have to eliminate all fear from their mind.
Dude if a tire pops you should sue your team, I mean it should absolutely not be able to happen, only in exraordinary circumstances but than you lose traction, you can still break and slow down to save your life, these machines cost a lot of money and they are made to do high speeds
Shame F1 doesnt have a drift mode
LIVIN´ LEGEND!!!!!!!!!
thank´s for the video!
well, I think every form of motorsport sees someone take over despite it being out of the ordinary. Usually, English drivers dominate F1 but Michael Schumacher (GERMANY) won the championship 5 times in a row. I'm glad we were able to have this discussion without conflict, as that seems to be how most people feel on youtube.
That rear wing is set pretty low considering the wet track?... Oh well
Now, that's what I call a PRESENT! :)
i'd say the same for Rossi and Schumacher from what i've seen those two do in other froms of racing
sebastian loeb is the best!! >:D
..wild n fast..he is the beast
Michael Schumacher being a perfect example? HE is not Bloodthirsty like LOEB IS, I wish opportunities will open up for Loeb and you will see my dear friend Mr.Loeb will surprise you all!!! He gave up his World rally car for an F1 is he dumb at this point or does he really think he can takes on Hamilton and whoever thinks is good enough.
The next year, they got a different Sebastian to drive that and he has won 4 championships since.
Time?
Undoubtfully i know better than you. When the track is wet the racing line has to be built. Thats gonna get succeeded with more and more laps by mutliple f1 cars. Now Do you even see a sign of a racing line on this track? So If he follows it how can you be so sure that he would be faster? All these provided that the track is wet. Plz man...dont make me laugh at you! If you wanna question a 9 time world champion then you gotta be a psycho.
@monaro632 Lose his speed? what are you a FreakShow Race car driver never lose it speed it's all about how bad you really want to WIN the race. You and only you can decide if you want to push this F1 to the limit and take all the risks.
I agree on somethings but its hard to compare its not the same type of driving and one is physicly more demanding in some aspects but i think F1 correct me if im wrong i think F1 is harder mentally. Also did you know most people cant do more then 2 laps on an average track with an F1? If you go too slow you dont have enough air passing inside the car and you overheat. haha i found it pretty amazing when i read that.
aged and experienced driver we have a lot of dumbs in f1 nowadays that seb could beat very easy , even been 34 y as he is , hug , rodrigo tarpinian ,sao paulo brasil
well, I apologize if I came of that way, but everytime Lewis Hamilton's name is mentioned it is either positive or negative (with negative remarks being unfairly racial a lot of the time). But there is a rumor that Kimi Raikkonen (the 2007 F1 champ), may be looking to jump into WRC after he is done with F1, and Finnish drivers seem to be the best at the sport (from what I understand).
He's a 9 time "WRC" champion. Not F1 champion. Different driving styles. Drivers can't just switch at will. And please go read what a racing line is before you even begin to discuss this with me. (Hint : google for "define racing line") Being able to "see" the racing line (laid in rubber) has nothing to do with the racing line (aka the fastest route) being there. Despite of the conditions, the racing line always kisses the apex of the corners, which Loeb doesn't seem to be doing.
No I think your 'point' was just another attack on Lewis Hamilton, seeing as how you singled him out. I don't think any F1 driver (bar Kimi, Mika, and Heikki) could easily make the jump to Rally Racing.
@McLarenMercedes that s the same question evrybody used to do when valentino raced for honda...and of course it s a true question and you re right ...but i think loeb will be the best in any kind of machine he would be given to drive...about the diversity you re right too ...but ...you have to consider that there are other drivers that heve the same ´´easy´´ way to achieve the numbers loeb achieve till now and did not make it...if you compare ´´eras´´ you will probably will be misunderstood ..
It's not about fast. Look at the lines he's taking. Wildly missing the apex. Don't talk if you don't know shit about racing.
I don't know. There's no way i could tell where he would stand on an F1 grid if he were to drive competitively because it's a completely different ball game. My observation is only based on this video and he's seriously below par (in this particular video).
Grande Loeb!
Yeh. You got a point...I understand....You seem to be really relevant to f1. If I'm not wrong you must be a Fernado fan.
hard to tell, rally drivers are better at terrains, formula one drivers are better at physical fitness
Loeb a le mérite de s'être fait tout seul ! Prost Schumi Sordo Senna et bien d'autre ont débuter très tôt sur kart. Seb n'a pas eu cette opportunité !
Oh, i meant the drivers on F1 grids 2007 and onwards. Of course i'm a fan on Senna. It's nearly impossible to be a fan of F1 and not be a Senna fan.
@McLarenMercedes In that period a rally have a lot more SS than now. I respect Markku Allen, but the world titles and percentage of wins/starts tell us another story.
Now, what I want to see is Seb vs. Tony Stewart in F1 cars.
M.schumacher in his best shape was fast, even in rain conditions, BUT, loeb is a rally driver, the cars are very different.
clearly not a rookie of F1 cars, he proves fast and steady , both on brains and speed.Good driving skills.
You take a wider line but you still hit the fucking apex!! No hitting apex = not racing line.
wtf how can you say that loeb himself in an interview said it was so much harder
It a good jump for Loeb's career to go to F1 as it is rumoured he is going to the RedBull F1 Team after this WRC season, but I will miss him in Rally. I don't blame him for wanting to try something new as he has done everything possible in the WRC. Read his Bio, he has been a winner all his life, not just in Rally.
Any updates?
He was taking the racing line. What corners are you talking about?
maybe he should go to f1 coz dominating rally so bad :P
@dumbman2006
he's not one of the best he's THE best
Thats bad..seriously...not even Ayrton Senna?
bravo seb cinq fois champion
a quand un tour ensemble ?
ari vatanen is the best forever!!
@rdtli Nope, that would be Vettel lol.
he is way to old (34 i think)
et ouai c'est un francais !!!!! lol
former fastest man on earth
What about Aryton Senna?
No Ekström is.
There you go.
My dream
Audio is amazing in this.
@rdtli
Markku Alen won 796 stages (still the record) in 129 starts. Loeb has 725 stage wins in 136 starts.
Now, Alen raced in from the 70's to the 90's and won with RWD cars, mid-engined Lancias, Group B monsters, 4WD WRC etc. That diversity over that extended period of time, means a heck of lot more than a guy who only ever raced for the same dominant manafacturer (with Ford as the only competition) in an era with little opposition.
Put Loeb in a Ford and see what he'll achieve.
he won the monte carlo in a ford today
We see. He won in Montecarlo and defeat 8time World champion Ogier
hehehehe, say that again
This aged well
he will be the legend
He enjoyed it but you he thinks he needs more of a challenge like WRC 😏...
@rdtli
To me Sebastian Loeb is the Rocky Marciano of wrc. Marciano beat Joe Louis who way past his prime, and defended his boxing title in an era which most believe was void of any top class challengers. As Marciano retired a whole new batch of great champions arrived. The 60's and 70's were way tougher.
In the 90's WRC had plenty of competitive manafacturers, and top drivers like Sainz, Kankkunen, McRae, Makinen, Auriol and Burns.
Since the 70's has Ford ever produced a top car in WRC?
I know how drivers "see" the racing line. But tell me honestly. Do you really believe that if Loeb came to f1 he would be the worst driver and that he would always finish last with big difference from the others?
would of been epic to see him in formula 1! Best drivers formula 1 or WRC....id say WRC
Ayrton senna
I have great respect for the 9 time in a row WRC champion, but seriously, he is just useless in the f1 car. Look how wildly he misses the apex. Any racer should be able to hit the apex without trouble. Look at Rossi testing F1 cars, he hits the apex just fine.
