Got a C4 in 2007 because of Loeb winning on WRC and looking good while doing it. 15 years later, I have zero regrets! I still love how it looks on the road and for a 15 year old car, it still looks as good as more modern models.
Same here same year. My lobe edition is looking mint. IV had people come up to me and mention about how new it looks and IV spent many hours keeping those white wheels clean 😂

Toyota have shown with GR Yaris there is strong demand for road cars that are close to their WRC brothers. Would be great to see Hyundai or Ford make something based on their current WRC cars.

Driving with Loeb must have been crazy... I am 26 now and I remember all of his championship after championships. One of the GOATs for sure, every rally driver must have been delighted when he retired. I drove on the Val Thorens ice driving course a couple of years ago and the instructor there told me Loeb used to drive there and practice a lot. He said I just missed him with a day, then we went to the restaurant they said the same thing and I was super sad not meeting such a legend.
If the unit is from 2008 it is still powered by the old PSA XU family engine, which was used in the Xsara T4 WRCs, it was actually a 1.8 l version (XU 7, specifically a XU7JP4) raising the displacement to 2.0 l. (1,998 cm3), lengthening the cylinder stroke. It was an engine from the same family as the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 (XU 8T). Obviously much more current, with much more advanced electronics, and with a smaller turbo with the regulation 34 mm flange. Since 2009 season onwards, it already used the most modern EW family engine that was used in the series, and which premiered with the Peugeot 206 in 1998.
It's really interesting how the XU had just long enough career to have this connection. Also to think that in between it also saw (very different) use in the high-revving F2 Kit Cars and Super Touring cars.

In the case of the 306 Maxi, it was XU10 J4RS version, derived from the latest street versions of the XU family, which also equiped 405 T16 (XU10 J4TE version) that replaced the 1,905 cm3 XU9 that equiped the 405 Mi 16, 309 GTI16 and Citroën BX GTI 16V (XU9 J4 version). Also note that from this XU9 came the one that mounted 405 Turbo 16 of Pikes Peak and Paris-Dakar with the name of XU9T that in the most performance version of Pikes Peak yielded between 660 and 700 HP, although at more than 4,000 meters. of height of the famous ascent with lack of oxygen in the air the engines yielded much less power.

This car and Loeb Amazing work with it is The reason why I got the C4 VTR as my first car. I know the road car don't have a lot of the race car, but it was a nice feeling having the car that "based" one of the Best WRC cars Ever made. Absolutely loved my little Citroën, might get another one in a few years, but this time, a VTS.
Nah, I appreciate that at least one fairly affordable manufacturer is making cars that are actually comfortable instead of pseudo sporty ones everyone is making nowadays.

Same here. The story about the original all-red livery, the mild dissing of the “C4 Loeb Edition” - I’ve heard that before. Can’t find it in the Carfection back catalogue though. Maybe they’ve pulled the original and this is a longer edit?
Fantastic as usual Henry ,the C4 was the most buttoned down and well engineered car in the WRC in its day, Citroen always had a way with cars when it came to racing, point the C4 and there it goes, 👍
We got 3 brands in France and they all came on the top of the world, Renault in rally and F1, Peugeot in rally and Dakar and Pike peak, Citroën in rally and Dakar. So i would say it's not Just the brand but how are build performance car in our country. Maybe also cause we are Lucky to have proper pilots too. It's a combinaison of things i suppose. The other country that make performance and Light cars Is japan.

Because you can buy a road version of a WRC sti/evo. Unfortunately Citroen never decided to make a proper road rally car or even hot hatch for that matter, the closest they ever came was the DS3R

Homologation specials ended in 1997 with the WRC regulations, only mitsubishi used the old group a homologation until 2001, making the EVO 6.5 the last true rally homologation special. They're just selling you road car versions that look like their rally counterparts which only have the windshield and a few minor things in common.
would have loved to see closer views and tricks in the engine bay and under the car to see chassis parts/suspension ,these are so rare to be closely examined...I know Seb Loeb had a very tight team of mechanics that he cherished ,they would take his car apart and re-check everything even if it was not needed ,come -up with smart little tricks & parts to give him even more reliability and performance....great video..

Slightly nerdy idea: I think the reece cars don't get enough credit - how about a review of an Volvo S60 recce car from M-Sport? They were extensively modified and very sleepy. But I would love to see more details and the reason for them
This is a wonderful video, and a truly amazing car. But I must admit, I miss the days when rally cars didn’t look like econoboxes - the Alpine A110, Lancia Fulvia, Stratos, and 037 - these cars were not just dominant, but beautiful as well! PS - shout out to the drone pilot for some fancy flying!
I mean even during that time some of the most dominant rally cars looked like/were Econoboxes Mini Cooper, Ford Escort, Renault 5 Turbo, Abarth 131, Lancia Delta S4 and Peugeot 205 T16. Personally I like all the mentioned cars as well as the C4. Especially since C4 has that funky weird coupé hatchback roofline like a Honda CRX. Elevates it beyond something like a Citroen C2.
I have a 2007 lobe edition 00024. In the prosess of preserving It at the moment and it's already looking mint. Never plan on selling it keeping it as long as I can. These cars literally take my breath away. I love them so much it's just so pretty and angry 😂
I do remember a C2 VTS loeb edition being a thing, but it was nothing more than a red C2 with a few menial upgrades and stickers, Citroen did use the C2 for the Junior WRC but funnily enough Ogier is the one who made it an s1600 icon

When old race cars are run for demonstrations like this, are the engines/tyres/gearboxes etc running in full race spec or are they dialled back for longevity?
It incredible that a fairly modern rally car is already regarded as a rally classic. It goes without saying, considering how many rallies/championships it won but usually, you have to got back 20+ years before you start claiming cars as legendary.

It's a shame Citroen never capitalised on their rally success with hot road going C4s. Loeb is a living legend as his 2022 Monte Carlo win showed.
Loeb is a superhuman, you can give him absolutely any car and he well fight in the top with it. As he had proved many times in many categories.
I do remember a C2 VTS loeb edition being a thing, but it was nothing more than a red C2 with a few menial upgrades and stickers, Citroen did use the C2 for the Junior WRC but funnily enough Ogier is the one who made it an s1600 icon

When old race cars are run for demonstrations like this, are the engines/tyres/gearboxes etc running in full race spec or are they dialled back for longevity?

It incredible that a fairly modern rally car is already regarded as a rally classic. It goes without saying, considering how many rallies/championships it won but usually, you have to got back 20+ years before you start claiming cars as legendary.
