Sébastien Loeb is recognized as the best rally driver in the world. In 2003, he finished second in the World Rally Championship. Subsequently, from 2004 to 2012, he won the title of world rally champion nine times in a row. At that time, Loeb held the majority of rally records.
He is arguably the best driver in the world. In addition to being the first winner of three different world championships, he is the winner of the X Games, winner of the GT and Touring competitions.

And he also tested F1 cars on several occasions, a Renault in 2007 and a Red Bull in 2008. He was actualy supposed to drive for the Toro Rosso team in 2009 and 2010 but could not get a superlicense.

I am willing to say, Seb may be the greatest car driver of all time. What he has done on the track, on paved, gravel and snowy roads (including Dakar and GT racing) and everything in between is probably unmatched. I mean - this is the dude who was not allowed to race F1, not because he was too bad but because he had not enough lower level closed circuit experience.
If you want to pick one dude to ensure that any kind of car moves fast on any surface - he is the man.

Seb Loeb is a real GOAT. He retired from active rally racing a few years ago, but this year he was asked by Ford to test the new Puma rally car and will be competing in a few WRC races this year. In January he entered and won the Monte Carlo rally. The funny thing is that with the other Sebastian (Ogier), who is also in a similar status at Toyota, there were only two of them in contention for the win, the youngsters were nowhere to be found compared to them.
These two have 17 WRC championship titles between them. The last 20 years have essentially been about them in rallying...

Loeb showed his talent in so many disciplines, from Le Mans to DTM and even went well in an F1 test. In my experience of driving road going Peugeots, you have to drive them like you are in a rally all of the time. You don't even have to break the speed limits or do anything silly. Put your foot right down on the accelerator and brake pedals. If you have a heavy right foot and just like the fun of driving, get a diesel, you can push them right to their limit and the just blow a lot of smoke and clean the injectors for you. Used to drive 205 diesel vans for work, had a 207 GTI recently (I loved that car) and now cruise about in a 208 HDI. They all got treated the same, and they loved it! Reverse gear is like as if all you had was first gear but going backwards, keep your hand steady and put your foot to the floor. The small wheelbase pugs are like Ninjas, push them hard and they will drive between the raindrops. Staying within the speed limits is like bonus XP. Love these videos!!

Some history for Peugeot... in the early 80's one of their sparkling accomplishments was the original 208 GTi.
A go-kart sized 2-door, 4 seater car with a 1.8 litre injected engine and a wheel at each corner. The engine was smooth and bullet-proof,...
When it raced, it won... I was lucky enough to be given a Peugeot 309GTi as a company car, and the roadholding was awe inspiring...
The same day I gave the car back after it was end of life'd, I nearly trashed the brand new Vauxhall rep mobile as I made the mistake of thinking that I didn't have to modify my driving style. That was almost a call for new underwear.

Hey IWrocker :) Just some information about this: The old record was set by "Walter Röhrl" in 1987 (He set a 10:47 as the last 1/3 of the road was still gravel back then) and lasted until it was broken by "Sebastian Loeb" in 2013. The most impressive thing is that you drive uphill into really thin air. The engine losses around 20-25% power if you compare start to finish. The topspeed of the car is not that high, it's around 150mph but the cornering and acceleration is just extreme. *EDIT* There is a fast corner with a very steep drop that is named "devil's playground" (Should be the left turn at 8:46 in your reaction) and 2 guys survived the drop in 2012. Watch (no need to react but you can for sure) "RECARO Presents "Devil's Playground": The Jeremy Foley 2012 Pikes Peak Story" It's a 3:12 minute video.

Sebastien, 'Seb' in france, has rare visual acuity found in fighter plane pilots. An aptitude that allows him to see better and further in fog conditions in particular.
It also has an unusual nervous system and mind which guarantee it a sense of improvisation and exceptional adaptation on the road.

Loeb, the GOAT of rallies. 9 times in a row World Champion of WRC, beaten all records, most rally races won in a row (7), most rally races won in one WRC (10 out of 14). Came out of retirement at 50+ for WRC 2022, wins the first race ...

Someone deffinately should make a documentary 'Argentina to Peak' about Ari Vatanen. If for no other reason. Well he just turned 70 in april. Climb Dance is sometihng different. Especially for someone who 3 yearrs before that had to learn how to live and walk again.

I drove up Pikes Peck in 1995 in the family minivan (rear wheel drive). It was a couple of days after the race and a lot of banners were still up. At that time the tarmac was covered in dirt as it it was considered a dirt track race. The tarmac has since been improved an it is all the way to the top; not a mix of hard and soft surfaces. You should check out the Electric car record run also (VW project).

have watched that a heap of times and it still impresses me every time! should have a look Guy Martin's doco. he literally builds his own motorcycle and wins the motorcycle class at pikes peak. the man is a nutter. he also does Isle of Man TT.

Pikes peak looks like it would be awesome to watch live in person. It gains so much altitude that the cars are making considerably less power at the top. The thing I love about the event, is that you can enter in ANY car you like, no homologation required, it's like group B on steroids! 🤣

Hello, you must watch Ari Vatanen driving Peugeot 405 T16 (same monster as 205 T16 from group b rally) up to pikes peak top in early 90's when upper half part of the track was only dirt...
Maybe even more impressive than this incredible run.

I was lucky enough to be standing about 200 feet up from the starting line for this run and I was floored by the ferocity of this car when it went by at warp speed
