as long as the actor they get to play the doctor is a legit adult, there really is no such thing as TOO YOUNG. classic who showed that when the doctors went through a phase where they were getting younger. Tom Baker was younger than Pertwee, and way younger than Hartnell. then when Davison took over he was even younger, by a wide margin than usual. he was even dubbed 'the young one'. and when the fifth doctor said in castrovalva 'that's the problem with regeneration; you never know what you're going to get' - it shows how there are no real rules to regeneration and how old you can look. and in destiny of the daleks, when romana kept changing her body when she was regenerating, she showed how much a look can change not just by look, but in every way. and in truth, the journey of 9,10, and 11th doctor is similar to the aging process of 3,4, and 5th doctor. and matt definitely did do things with his acting choices and mannerisms to every now and again show his real age. and it created a lovely contrast between his doctor and twelve.

The Doctor: No, not a man. Not a human being. I am a complex space-time event. I am Lord President of Gallifrey. The Traveller from Beyond Time. I am the Sandman! The Oncoming Storm! I am the Ka Faraq Gatri; Destroyer of Worlds! And sometimes...only sometimes, I. Am. Your. Worst. Nightmare... I am the Doctor, and I take care of my friends.

Every time I see the Waters of Mars, it really reminds me of who the Doctor can be without anyone holding him back. There's plenty of other moments, too, but the Time Lord Victorious just hits me slap-bang in the chest. And paired with that dangerous music... the Doctor is not someone to anger. Every other time he lets out his dark side, it burns a hole in my heart that somehow satisfies me.
Thank you for this amazing arrangement.

Can you blame him for acting That way? After letting so many people die because of the laws of time, when your mindset is every life saved is a victory and every death us a failure...eventually anyone would snap in his shoes. How many times do you think you could walk away from things like Pompeii, and the titanic before you say to yourself "right, screw this"?

Happy Person but it’s not just about the time war. It’s about the doctors inability to save everyone always, and how that takes a toll on them. I understand if they want to take a different direction, the time war storyline has been going on for a very long time, but I don’t think they should completely abandon the essence of the doctor, the doctor who has a dark past. It makes the doctor more real and the show more interesting.

The Valeyard hasn't happened yet, but this shows where the Valeyard begins. The first real glimpse we see is after Tennant regenerates in the Stolen Earth, and he becomes more reckless, which properly surfaces in the Waters of Mars.
The Valeyard can be created at any time in the future now. It's fair game as to when they manifest, but since the Master's started a turn towards the Doctor's perspective, perhaps the Valeyard could act as a foil for the Doctor in the future, should the Master lose much of their antagonistic attitude.

He's entire existence is cursed and will only find true peace in death

Epcot lp I went into doctor who at the modern age point. Id heard of it and knew a basic background... He was an alien from another world who could travel in time, had a companion and couldnt die, I knew cybermen, the master and daleks. I haven't seen many of the old series but I know it's not a requirement. New who has definitely developed the doctor's character onto an emotional level that you see why he's driven to near insanity and rage whilst the master was fully driven there. This video really helps outline the doctor but I don't know if I'd show them it to get them prepped. I think it's a shared discovery.
I may be wrong. Maybe we should test it out on a new whovian
That being said, I would like an older person who has seen pre 2000 doctor who to watch this if they haven't seen any of the new ones to see if they can relate him to the old

ALL LOVE GIVE HIM!
"Winning? Is that what you think it's about? I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun. God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works because it hardly ever does.. I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT'S RIGHT! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind! It's just that.. Just kind. If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live. Maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, you know, maybe there's no point to any of this at all. But it's the best I can do. So I'm going to do it. And I will stand here doing it until it kills me. And you're going to die too! Some day.. And how will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand.. Where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind?" - The Doctor

A quote that I love, that absolutely sums up the doctor and one I wish you'd included, is from The Caves of Androzani, when Sharez Jek stares point blank at the doctor (in an amazing side on shot from the brilliant Graham Harper) and says "you have the mouth of a prattling jackanapse. But your eyes...they tell a different story".
That's the clue with the doctor. Forget the mouth, that's a distraction, a diversion tactic. Look at the eyes. Look at them. They're old. Deeply, deeply old. Ancient battered wounds, tired from existence, all his suffering and existential agony just brimming beneath the surface. The eyes reveal what the mouth could never do, and sometimes, rarely, just occasionally, the rest of his being matches the age of the eyes, and you see him in his totality for the first time. And my god...do you truly see him, stood immortal to the universe in all his wonder and monstrosity.

I love this video. It shows just a lot of the raw traumatized pain in the doctor. So many of the deaths and pain shown were not his fault but that doesn't mean he doesn't blame himself for it. Like with the destroying the Daleks and time lord things. Yes, that was a crime, but when he blames himself for it he ignores the fact that he did it to save every other civilization.

hbomberguy did a part about problems like this in his video about Sherlock, I'm not sure it's the edgyness that's the problem, more the fact that it never really goes anywhere, it's never resolved we're just told the doctor has a dark side repeatedly.

    • @spoopytoonsentertainment
      @spoopytoonsentertainment 6 років тому +6

I think that may just be a product of how long the series has gone on. You say they keep talking about how the doctor is dark, and they're right. But most people would point to the 7th Doctor, who was by and large the darkest. 12th and 9th were close and 11th and 10 have more emotional darkness. But a lot of the physical darkness and stuff happened in Classic Who.

But I so wished there had been somebody to tell her that it was a fact that there were a huge, huge number of times when places (including whole worlds) had been saved because the Doctor just HAPPENED to be in those places.

A human being of complete rage and bitterness but also of love, courage, forgetfulness and each change of face brings forward more challenges for the Doctor

You can start with the first season. Quality is worse, but interesting. If it doesn't, there are several more options. Start watching from 2, 5 or 10 season. But then you will be a bit lost in the plot, there are many references to past seasons.

Marta Galarza I would tell you to start with revived seasons as the classic show has a giant library which is very hard to access , start with the ninth doctor as he helps introduce the character very well I think , if you have Netflix it will most likely be the first season , I believe the first episode is called rose

    The Doctor
I have traveled long and far I’ve lived many life’s
Take a peek in the window of my eyes, you will see pieces the universe
If you could take a stroll through my memories, you’ll be astound of all I’ve witnessed and maybe feel what I experience
The burden will bring you too your knees pleading for mercy or a break
I wouldn’t wish this on my enemy
    I’ve experienced so much joy
My memories brings me more pain than joy but I will keep finding a way to give hope, share a little wisdom with a reason to smile,
And pray to the Holy Spirit I can save the rest in their names because that’s who The Doctor is
I run far and long, lived many lives
Inside what appears to you a big blue box
I’m not sure where I’m running to but I’m am The Doctor, the last of the timelords, I run alone
So I don’t have to live for another life I lost
Trust is it’s becoming too much to burden but I will find a way to be a healer but I can’t be healed
My two heart’s will remain as large as my tardis
To all those souls I lose through my time
I promise I will make you proud
We’re not suppose to live forever,
    but you perished too soon
I’ll Create something in your memory that will remain everlasting
It will be heard like a melody when it chimes
Cause I hate when stories end so your song won’t too
When I cross paths with evil
I promise they won’t escape from me
    I’m am the doctor
I will fight in the name of all the lost souls
But I won’t take a life to be like them unless it’s the very last resort and their no longer have an ounce of humane
The weight of the burdens and the souls I carry with me grow
Though I will find a way to save, because I’m the doctor and I’ve lost too many I won’t see another go
I run far and long, lived many life’s
Inside what appears to you a big blue box
I’m not sure where I’m running to but I’m am The Doctor, the last of the timlords, I find a way to heal but I cannot be healed
I run alone, stand for everyone
Ask of me I fear no one
    They all fear my might
I’m known by many names from the blood on my hands
Some got left some i saved some I lost some I took It all depends on which story you heard But I’m all that and more I do what what I must nothing less nothing more
But My two heart’s are as large as my tardis
    I’m The Doctor!
