It was a nice little detail to see Osiris refer to Rasputin as Fellwinter's murderer., though I am surprised that Saladin was not resistant towards handing over his friends shell to Ana. Plus it seems that seeing himself through his Son's Ghost's eye made Rasputin lose that god complex and strive to become more humble.
I think Saladin before going with the Cabal would’ve been resistant, but after coming around to former enemies being allies, it makes some sense that he could be convinced.
@@Nexuish i actually did a ledgend psiops and the post-mindscape dialog was between zavala and saladin and he even said "they're different once you fight along side them" or something to that effect
Also Ana teaching rasputin about humanity, like how felwinter learned about humanity by living among them. The rasputin during the golden age had too much clovis
It is notable that saladin sent his iron warbeasts and didn't go himself. He also left out felsprings remains the only thing we needed and forbade us from entering the crypt. I think Saladin knew it was necessary and helped us get the information but he wasn't happy about it and didn't want to invite rasputin into felwinters peak any more than absoulutely necessary.
I assume the Guardian is just doing doing a lot of "ooooooooo" and "oh snap, get his ass" reactions to the extremely messy family drama we keep being witness to each season
Whenever family drama happens I just imagine the guardian being all “is this a bad time? I’m just here doing my thing I wasn’t expecting this telenovela shit” lol
In some of the other voice lines he seems so happy to finally be able to express his gratitude to Ana and Elsie. It also looks like he is quickly becoming a friend of Mara.
I remember when we first got a look at the giant diamond-shaped mindlab back in the Warmind expansion and I thought, “it really feels like someone was trying to build their own Traveller here.” It’s fun to see I was pretty much right.
I now REALLY want to see a conversation between Rasputin and either Caital or Mithrax. Mithrax foaming at the mouth at how high-tech Rasputin is, or Caital running simulations with him
I was speechless after watching Rasputin's cutscene last night. I had been expecting a revelation like this for eight years. It was absolutely brilliant. Te quiero mucho Bungie.
i love how much effort they put into this they recorded 3/4 weeks worth of Clovis talking and all the interactions with other characters only to completely remove it with Rasputin with new lines and new interactions meaning we'll likely not hear the original clovis lines again. i love the effort they put into this season
I like how they handled this reveal, bungie knew that we knew Clovis would betray us, they knew we knew if given the chance Clovis would overthrow the traveller as "humanities saviour", but bungie still somehow managed a twist in the purpose of Rasputin, they still masterfully managed to make a twist that made sense and greatly recontextualises some of the old lore, honestly just a writers chef's kiss
I can't say that this revelation came as a surprise. It was more like a heavy, foreboding weight that had been waiting to drop and finally did. We've long known of Clovis' ambitions to be LUCA, his megalomania and his complete lack of scruples. We've also known that there was a command created to have Rasputin attack the Traveler. That was excused by the defense of it being merely a contingency, but there was definitely a destructive/malevolent edge to that command. We now know that the malevolence and destructive goals are Clovis' alone, and that Rasputin's character and goals are far removed from all that. Seeing a creation overpower one malevolent creator (Clovis) to stand alongside a much more positive leader (Ana) was more than satisfying.
@@lucatamburello4545 To be the LUCA, or Last Universal Common Ancestor of human thought. He seeks to set the pattern for all thoughts, endeavours and priorities in humanity moving forward, so that all pursuits are in line with his plans and that all accomplishments can be traced back to his genius.

@@rsmcdonald6922 Quite likely, given the Darkness directly influenced the success of several of his projects, including "Clarity," or the thing that made Exos work with any stability of self in their mechanical bodies without crazed self-destruction.
I don’t know if this has been said before but what struck me the most was how our Ana’s struggle with Clovis parallels her struggle with the darkness in one of Exo-Strangers alternate dark timelines, except our Ana didn’t fail…
Ana knew Clovis would betray us, but this goes far beyond what she expected. And I love that he called out to Elsie, who hated and distrusted him more than anyone else, for help. Side note; if Felwinter was an inorganic life form, never human himself, could any inorganic be a Lightbearer? What if a Ghost was resurrected by a Ghost?
From what I can infer, Rasputin was always based on the complex neurological systems of a human mind. The SIDDHARTHA GOLEM protocol was designed to partition a section of himself to become human like, live among humanity. That’s how we got Felwinter. So he wasn’t simply AI or complex code. A unique case with Felwinter so I honestly dont expect this to happen again. Much like what happened to Shin Malphur: a unique case.
@@acgearsandarms1343 but wasn't shin already resurrected by the light as a baby (though the first ghost died) That being said I agree with you that his is a special case where another ghost replaces someone blessed by the light previously. @@qibcentricsplayground2043 that baby was never confirmed to be Shin Malphur, and while it is definitely possible, there is no concrete direct evidence that confirms the theory.
Probably one of my favorite weeks so far. Rasputin has been one of my favorite storylines in Destiny lore, and it's really cool to see him finally realized in an Exo body.
I'm a little concerned with the possibility that Clovis is still somehow embedded in Rasputin's code, remember; there was a brief moment when they were both in the Exo frame. Totally assuming the worst case scenario on my part, but I really don't think Clovis just went off to Europa without leaving some piece of himself to keep tabs on us, even if we did force him out
We didn't force him out, Rasputin straight up deleted the partition of Clovis that was uploaded on the exo frame. The partition is independent from the original Clovis A.I back on Europa, what it did as it was being deleted was sending a message back to Europa to let A.I Clovis know that they(we) found out about his plan and stopped him.
I feel when Clovis dropped that decripted message. "They know" is a serious red flag for me. Could very well be possible he's been working with the witness at the start and was planning to assist on destroying the traveler. In Clovis mind he looks for all viable solutions and he CLEARLY has some deep sated jealousy over the traveler. So he wants what's best for humanity and that is embracing darkness
I’m just finally glad we have a real chance at cracking a Pyramid after all this time. My biggest issue ever since the arrival of the Black Fleet was our lack of progress in fighting these things. If we can’t so much as destroy one, we can’t handle so much as an armada. We finally have a real stepping stone with the Warsats. If we can avoid a repeat of Rasputin’s first attempt, we have made meaningful progress in getting an edge over the Black Fleet and that’s just part of the battle.
I firmly believe that weapons wielded by a Guardian hit harder than they should. Just go to that lost sector on Europa that has the bunch of friendly security frames and watch how long they take to kill a single Vex. So I'm hoping for some reallllllllly big guns, powered and designed by Rasputin, but fired by Guardians.
@@xarm23 IKELOS protocol revision again? Here’s the thing. That’s designed for ground infantry. What we need is something designed for large targets like a Pyramid so a gun for human hands is not going to cut it. We need something big. Something preferably from a weapons platform designed to take on threats like the Black Fleet that can crack its hull like crunching a Toblerone.
@@acgearsandarms1343 I was thinking artillary-sized at minimum. Just glue a warsat on top of a pistol and let us float in space going ham on anything that looks interesting. btw I also view guardians as a bit like warhammer 40k orcs when it comes to guns. I would not be surprised that if a particularly silver-tounged person could convince a guardian that a stick was a gun, the guardian could use said stick as a gun.
@@xarm23 You’re missing my point. What we need to destroy a Pyramid can’t be used by ground troops, like Guardians. It’s not going to be powerful enough. It has to be bigger.

I wonder if we will learn more about what actually happened during the collapse, now. I guess Red might need more of his memories restored, but I just want it outright confirmed if The Traveler tried to leave us like it did the Eliksni, and if Red really was the one to prevent that.
@@TheArrivalCyberse I do. Gutting the traveller as part of the ABHORRENT IMPERATIVE /YUGA SUNDOWN protocols would not be out of the question. Stop the traveller from running, and force a release of paracausal force. Savathun's scheme worked well here too, giving humanity a chance to survive the whirlwind
Come to think of it, that might be a useful mini-reveal for the Lightfall campaign, like the one at the end of the Parasite mission about Savathuns involvement in the Collapse.
I love that when you do the Europa battleground after this Clovis comes onto comms with "ahh good you've changed your mind and come to help me". Also, since Clovis likely had access to vanguard files and archives from the helm, what are the chances that "they know" isn't about us knowing his plan but some information that Xivu was after, such as the location of Savathun's body?
So Rasputin, for certain, never did fire on the Traveler but did have the contingency leftover from Clovis' megalomaniac with a God complex. Just another Tuesday lol this was an awesome week.
I'm so glad we have Red back, is a for-sure ally, and that we can actually speak to and understand him. I'm a little worried that big-head Clovis knows we know his plan, but I'm sure that won't be an issue or anything, right? 😅
I really hope we get to see a lore tab or an in game example of the Drifter being a bad influence on Rasputin. Just imagine a game of gambit. Rasputin hanging back, cuz he only has the one body, his team is carrying him through thinking he's useless, until a warsat just smears the primeval as soon as it's vulnerable.
I’m genuinely surprised that Rasputin, in his godlike power capable of destroying even the Traveler, couldn’t pull up google translate to speak with us.
Wow what a week for lore…Rasputin is alive! And Byf was right, Clovis was an evil bastard from the start. People were saying “we’re gonna team up now” no…I’m glad Bungie didn’t choose the cheesy way out, some villains stay as villains. I’m just touched Rasputin is willing to help us now, Ana gave him the personality to will. That’s just awesome man. Maybe through his experience with The Witness in the past, will he give us hints to defeating it for good this time. Other than using our weapons and space magic to do it. If you want to compare lore, this season was the best we had in many years to be honest
Something to note, this is not the first time Osiris's relationship with Felwinter was brought up. All the way back in Curse Of Osiris in the garden progeny 1 scout rifle's lore tab it mentions that Osiris studied with Felwinter & Nirwen.
Some spoilery stuff ahead for those who haven't done the weekly story. As a newcomer to all this, both leading up to and after the big confrontation scene in the HELM, I was waiting for a trick, some hidden ploy that Clovis used to remain in the EXO frame or that he was pretending to speak as Rasputin... and then I was asked to go talk with Ana and make sure she was okay. I remember the relief flooding in, knowing Clovis was no longer at our proverbial backs.
I'd like Rasputin to explain his message in D1 " never ask for anything, never anything especially from those stronger than you, they will make the demands and ask themself " I feel his tyrant phase was still lingering
I think the line was actually "they will give everything themselves" or something like that. It's been a while since so i don't 100% remember, and at the time i thought it his way of saying "don't bother me, if humanity's in trouble, i'll help of my own accord".
Honestly thrilled to see that there are players who love this season. I posted on the forums that I liked it, and got a lot of hate for it. I felt like the minority. Glad to know that’s not the case, judging by the comments here Excited to listen to this video!
let me stop here for a moment to say: that voice actor that does Clovis/Rasputin, mad respect for those skills, I know there's some (a lot) of audio retouch there but that was hella good
What if Rasputin is able to puncture the traveler because Clovis’s hand was guided by the witness in building Rasputin? What if shooting down the traveler using Rasputin was the witness’s attempt at snuffing out the light, and now this was take-2 of that attempt?
It wouldn't surprise me. This year has seen several instances of apparent attempts to sow distrust between our allies - between Caiatl and her nightmare of Ghaul, Misraaks' past, and Clovis' intended purpose for Rasputin.
This week's story feels wild in a lot of ways, but most of all we got the thing that seemed like it was going to happen at the end before the midway point. Big expectation reset for the whole season. And boy does it obliterate the activating Rasputin as the trap from xivu thing seeing as, well, no portal with xivu walking through. To what extent does this mean we got a totally unexpected Felwinter resurrection? Because some of the things new Rasputin says feel a lot like a Felwinter resurrection. There is a huge piece here that both ties into some other topics that have been coming up, and suddenly is in play in a big way now. Abhorrent Imperative having not happened creates a giant question of "why didn't the traveler abandon the sol system and instead stand and fight this time?" That ties in with the eliksni alliance and politics and philosophy and awoken origins and aims and lucent hive everything and Elsie Bray timeloops in a huge way. It also points more questions at savathun and nezarec potentially.
As for the Traveler not leaving , if I remember correctly, the Fundament ghost shell lore talked about Savathun tricking a bunch of humans during the Collapse into enacting a Hive ritual similar to the one she used to chain the Traveler inside her Throneworld in the Witch Queen campaign.
Ghost Fragment: The Traveler 2 from the old Grimoire is written from what is most likely the Traveler's perspective. since it's part of the whole Dreams of Alpha Lupi, since Alpha Lupi represents the Traveler, much like in Clovis's journals. In it, even before getting to our system it seems determined to finally make a stand against its pursuer rather than keep running.
Very rarely does a video game actually bring me to tears, but that moment of Rasputin telling us to go check on Ana genuinely brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. Red is back baby, and in a very round about way, Felwinter is too Supplementary edit: I find it strange that Ana comments that Rasputin basically couldn’t speak when in warmind he seems perfectly capable of speaking in backwards Russian
Only an earth shattering revelation would bring Lore Daddy back from his rest, and, well, here we are. Ana is the true hero in this for teaching Red WHY he should save humanity.
Clovis Bray was split into 2 personalities correct? Banshee and AI on Europa? If his better side of Banshee and evil side embraced each other maybe we could get a character that saw the error of his ways like how Rasputin and Felwinter combined this week.
Knowing Clovis, he would see Banshee as a vessel full of the weaknesses he had before "ascending" to what he is now, and what he wants to be. I doubt such a meeting would end well for old Banshee.
@@eliaspanayi3465 not really, they did that crap with Eramis even though we didnt want her as an ally. Might as well get some part of Clovis as an ally.
Does Rasputin remind anyone of Vigil from the first Mass Effect? Man, that Vigil sequence was the best dialog from any video game, with a brilliant music theme to boot.
Clovis's betrayal and ascension via Rasputin seemed obvious when he first got involved. What I'm wondering now is how much data he sent himself before being caught, and if there's any possibility of him being twisted into a new disciple somehow
Theres something so eerie about seeing Ana so alive, filled with love and compassion, teaching and learning herself. Then a flash and she's just a skeleton, forever sitting at her desk.
This makes me think about the Apotheosis bit in the flavor text for some of the Ikelos weapons. This is a pretty big point and it's an interesting think-piece to consider for their future.

Cool little detail from seeing Ana's death in the collapse, she still has her keycard on her, which she gets resurrected with, leading her to discover who she was in her past life.
Your videos keep me interested when I don't have time to grind the game. So I have come accustomed to learning story from you and playing through things as quickly as possible when I get time. Keep up the great work.
I kind of like both how banshee 44 is brought up as still being a clovis bray and at the same time completely forgotten about you would think with just revealing that clovis bray wanted to use Rasputin to become his own version of a machine god that the tower idk... would put the master weaponsmith/basically a tech-priest under at least observation?
I definitely like how they portray him when he was still human. An evil scientist with round glasses. It definitely fits the narrative and Periscope of some of the things he done to the people of Europa. For old school anime fans there's some serious Alexander Anderson vibes coming from that manifestation of Clovis Bray
I seem to recall it was mentioned in the "Garden Progeny 1" Scout rifle tab from curse of Osiris, that Osiris trained under Felwinter and Nirwen. So I think its been known for a while? hmm
I really like that Rasputin's first words when he boots up is "Go to Ana, she needs support". That in itself is already proof he's better than Clovis when it comes to people.

GAMEVOICE Rasputin (In Russian): ALL FRAMES ON DECK! SECURE THE CITY! WE MAKE OUR STAND!
Or he’s intelligent enough to know that’s what we want to hear
Pretty sure his god complex ended when he got his cheeks clapped by the black fleet.
It's always just funny how us/the guardian is just vibing watching whatever shenanigans happens in the story.

I remember when we first got a look at the giant diamond-shaped mindlab back in the Warmind expansion and I thought, “it really feels like someone was trying to build their own Traveller here.”
It’s fun to see I was pretty much right.
We need the lore about the plot twist your vacation had when this week’s story came out.
Really glad they gave us a silhouette of Clovis in that cutscene, because now I will only ever picture Clovis in my head as the Medic from TF2
I now REALLY want to see a conversation between Rasputin and either Caital or Mithrax.

Te quiero mucho Bungie.
This week honestly made this season one of my favorite seasons
It's still crazy to me that felwinter was arguably the most powerful guardian because he had the power of the light and the force of Rasputin

i love how much effort they put into this they recorded 3/4 weeks worth of Clovis talking and all the interactions with other characters only to completely remove it with Rasputin with new lines and new interactions meaning we'll likely not hear the original clovis lines again. i love the effort they put into this season
His ambition to be what now ?
@@lucatamburello4545 To be the LUCA, or Last Universal Common Ancestor of human thought. He seeks to set the pattern for all thoughts, endeavours and priorities in humanity moving forward, so that all pursuits are in line with his plans and that all accomplishments can be traced back to his genius.
@@Northfan42 Wow, I didn't even know about that LUCA thing until now. The term "God Complex" doesn't come close to how much of a megalomaniac Clovis Bray I is.
@@Northfan42a final shape perhaps?
@@acgearsandarms1343 but wasn't shin already resurrected by the light as a baby (though the first ghost died)
That being said I agree with you that his is a special case where another ghost replaces someone blessed by the light previously. Cuz if that was normal, osiris and eris wouldn't Be ghostless after sagira
@@qibcentricsplayground2043 that baby was never confirmed to be Shin Malphur, and while it is definitely possible, there is no concrete direct evidence that confirms the theory.
@@501sttrooperbmc2The writer of that story stated it is the beginning of Shin's story. Likely won't ever be in-universe confirmed, but irl it is.
Probably one of my favorite weeks so far. Rasputin has been one of my favorite storylines in Destiny lore, and it's really cool to see him finally realized in an Exo body.
Welcome back Red, we missed ya.
After Osiris said that he studied under Felwinter, it made so much sense as to why he calls us "Young Wolf"
Hoping it doesn't end up being a walter/David situation like alien covenant
@@peteraustin9057 The good'ol switcharoo. I really hope not.

You believe the traveler was about to leave and Rasputin prevented it, which is why it has been sitting there stationary for so long?
Very plausible
@@TheArrivalCyberse I do. Gutting the traveller as part of the ABHORRENT IMPERATIVE /YUGA SUNDOWN protocols would not be out of the question. Stop the traveller from running, and force a release of paracausal force.
Savathun's scheme worked well here too, giving humanity a chance to survive the whirlwind
Come to think of it, that might be a useful mini-reveal for the Lightfall campaign, like the one at the end of the Parasite mission about Savathuns involvement in the Collapse.
Praise the traveler. I was just looking for a new video while working and saw this pop up
I love that when you do the Europa battleground after this Clovis comes onto comms with "ahh good you've changed your mind and come to help me".

Sorry your break got interrupted lol. Really cool lore this week nonetheless. You think there’s any lore on the Exo Dog?
Lore: Bungo: buy the plushie!!
Bro. when the Warmind theme started playing when you interact with Rasputin for the first time is just *fire*
Honestly it's impressive how noticable the difference between Clovis and Rasputin despite them having the same voice
I’m genuinely surprised that Rasputin, in his godlike power capable of destroying even the Traveler, couldn’t pull up google translate to speak with us.
I just love the way The Warmind theme starts playing when we start talking to Rasputin in the frame.
It's the little things ❤️

Clovis: "What has the Traveler ever done for us?"
He says this to his daughter who was resurrected by creations of the Traveler.
NOW WE NEED A RAID WITH A GIANT CLOVIS EXO BOSS!!!
I also theorized that when Rasputin shot the traveler it was most likely a remnant of Clovis's original plan
I'd like Rasputin to explain his message in D1 " never ask for anything, never anything especially from those stronger than you, they will make the demands and ask themself " I feel his tyrant phase was still lingering
That was the IO quest btw
I think the line was actually "they will give everything themselves" or something like that. It's been a while since so i don't 100% remember, and at the time i thought it his way of saying "don't bother me, if humanity's in trouble, i'll help of my own accord".
rasputin is jarvis to clovis as ultron, except a little bit of drama occurred before the split this time
Honestly thrilled to see that there are players who love this season. I posted on the forums that I liked it, and got a lot of hate for it. I felt like the minority. Glad to know that’s not the case, judging by the comments here
Excited to listen to this video!
let me stop here for a moment to say: that voice actor that does Clovis/Rasputin, mad respect for those skills, I know there's some (a lot) of audio retouch there but that was hella good
Always love your content byf
Appreciate you taking the time to cover this Byf. Mind-blowing lore that cracked half the story wide open.
What if Rasputin is able to puncture the traveler because Clovis’s hand was guided by the witness in building Rasputin? What if shooting down the traveler using Rasputin was the witness’s attempt at snuffing out the light, and now this was take-2 of that attempt?
Oh damn! You may be on to something 🤔
It wouldn't surprise me. This year has seen several instances of apparent attempts to sow distrust between our allies - between Caiatl and her nightmare of Ghaul, Misraaks' past, and Clovis' intended purpose for Rasputin.
I was losing my god damn mind on this one, several years worth of lore coming together was so satisfying
Your viewership is quite enough for me… always appreciate a new video byf. Cheers. Hope you found respite in your time off.
Very rarely does a video game actually bring me to tears, but that moment of Rasputin telling us to go check on Ana genuinely brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. Red is back baby, and in a very round about way, Felwinter is too
Supplementary edit: I find it strange that Ana comments that Rasputin basically couldn’t speak when in warmind he seems perfectly capable of speaking in backwards Russian
@@voltus20 just imagine the meeting between banshee and Rasputin

Theres something so eerie about seeing Ana so alive, filled with love and compassion, teaching and learning herself. Then a flash and she's just a skeleton, forever sitting at her desk.
