  • The redesigned 2023 Chevy Colorado is a massive improvement over the previous-generation truck - so we added one to our long-term test fleet to see how it’ll hold up over the next year and 20,000 or so miles. In this video, Edmunds’ Clint Simone gives you the lowdown on which Colorado we bought, why we bought it, and how we plan to use it over the next 12 months.

The engine has already been proven in the full size silverado witheven higher towing capacities. Its a couple of years in without any major catastrophes. While I too would prefer a V6 times are chaning and the numbers this engine puts out are impressive.

Pick up truck buyers tend to try to keep them for as long as they can, often 10yrs. A 4-cylinder turbo will not have a high mileage long life before HUGE repairs.

I'm with you on that! I'm looking to buy a truck, GM of course, even thought the new generation trucks are great when comes to futures, lots of electronic stuff, but it comes with lots of issues. Engines and trans are not maintenance free during first 60k, many complains from drivers, specially the lifters and the 8 speed trans. Tough to pick a truck to keep, without worrying, not a good thing! @@JamesSmith-sw3nk

I purchased a 2023 Colorado ZR2 --a joy to drive & highly capable. Regarding the 2.7L I4T, I've had several GM V8s and this engine is impressive. It has nearly the hp as my Suburban 5.3L & more torque; passing is NO problem. Avg >20mpg combined w/ Bridgestone Blizzaks.

5:38 Canyon owner here; I have the same issue, but it's not what you think. It's actually the phone's fault. I see you have the same iPhone as me. Unfortunately, the camera bump is too big for the phone to lay flat, and as a result (and due to the direct-contact-based Qi standard), it won't charge. My wife's older, non-Pro iPhone (with a thin case) charges every time.

We are very pleased with our Colorado ZR2. That said, as with all midsize pickups the back seat is a little short on leg room if you're 6ft or taller. I'm 5'9" and fit just fine in the back seat.

The 22s are my pick, due to the 6cilender engine, not too fun of turbo on trucks, long term keeping it is not too promising. Let's see when it gets over 80k, then we will see how it holds.

I just picked up a blue, loaded w/moonroof ZR2 3 weeks ago. I've driven it on a variety of different surfaces, from local streets to long highway jaunts to 3 days of wheeling in Moab 2 weekends ago. I seem to be averaging about 18.5mpg in everything from offroad to 85 on the highway (with PLENTY of passing power). LOVE it!

@@j.martin4476 My opinion? Pay the extra for the ZR2. You will NOT regret it. If you have it, and never use it, that's ok, you still get the HO engine and a nice interior. If you get the Z71 and go, man, I wish it had a front locker and the better shocks/suspension...you're f@cked, because you CANNOT do a factory upgrade, the frame is different. If you want to be more Z71 like, you can always buy a second set of wheels and more "street" tires for just running around town or highway trips and you should get a little better MPG with those as well. then when you want to get dirty, put the other tires on.

The trail-boss and the ZR2 are the offroad focused ones. The Z71 isn't the more off road one compared to the boss and the ZR2. and GM needs to give the Colorado and Canyon a selectable rear locker instead of the mechanical one they been using since the 60s

I'm hoping that your long term test results include things the majority of us would be concerned with, such as:
How reliable is the infotainment system? My son in law says his 2023 ZR71 Colorado's infotainment is so glitchy it sucks. My experiences with infotainment systems is that their reliability and performance is best rated only after long term use.
How reliable are the safety features like the blind spot indicators? Again, my son in law's truck has blind spot indicators that, in his words, seem to blink on at random times with no cars on either side of him.
Is the transmission more reliable than what Ford has been installing in their Ranger mid size truck? I personally know 2 people who had 2019 Rangers, and got rid of them in three years because of ridiculously bad transmission shifting, jerking, and gear hunting.
    Just my $0.02 worth.

I'm torn on the Z71 trim. Love the interior / exterior upgrades over the way too plain trailboss, but loath the lack of selectable locker and and the lift of the trailboss. The Z71 should have been a "Trail Boss Premium"

Chevy and GM are too cheap to even put the ten speed transmission in these trucks. Remember there is aFederal class action lawsuit against the 8-speed, buyer be aware.

Tacoma rattle, squeak, and are assembled by drunks. They also are notorious for driveline vibrations, and are seriously underpowered. How do I know? I owned two of them. Their resale is moot because you pay more for them in the first place, and the dealers are notorious for marking them up. The transmission in the Colorado was resigned, and it's as smooth as butter.

Taco Bell serves a lot of beef which is a significant contributor to climate change. What's your problem bro?

Seems like a very mediocre truck to me in every way. It does not shine or innovate in anything. GM is falling further and further behind other vehicle manufactures with no-passion no-innovation vehicles, just a few gimmicks here and there.

I had to abandon this video at about minute one. A truck has a bed as it's most important feature. It hauls stuff. If it is built to haul people and has an open trunk out back, it is a car or a bus. These smaller pickups just look like hideous cars with a pathetic "bed" attached, almost as an afterthought. I was actually shopping for a mid-size but I noticed that many brands (all?) don't even offer a single cab truck with a usable bed. The old Tacoma truck and S-10 used to have a 6 1/2 foot bed if I'm not mistaken. What is needed (IMO) is a plain, simple (cheap) single-cab pick-up with a 6 1/2 foot bed. No need for 200+ HP either, just adequate power for the job. Edit: I see that the Colorado can be ordered with a 6' bed but their site doesn't even mention bed size or options. I had to search around. No single-cab apparently. With everything, license, shipping, taxes, insurance etc. $40K+. Not going to happen.
