Honestly, it's not obnoxiously bright, although it is more exposed than the factory light. The main benefit is a broader spread of light, so you can see the entire trunk, rather than just the hotspot in the middle of the trunk that the factory light focusses on.
Is this normal for the trim to hang loose ? For some reason it won’t fit.. not the speaker side but the one that goes towards the back seats, thanks for the video I installed successfully
Thank you for all you do for the Tesla Modle Y im getting mine in July it has been push back, early now is pushed back, I will like to know more about yiur Y and how you like it, and any insight information
We love it! We love our Model 3 as well, but the Y is certainly more practical. Ours is a very early build, but the build quality has improved a lot since we got ours.
Behind the cover (towards the inside of the car) there is a lip that holds it in place . With a flat screwdriver or spudger, separate the plastic cover from the latch 1 or 2 mm and it will easily slide out, no force needed.
Yup, completely normal. Since the SMDs (LEDs) are outside of the trim (unlike the factory light) we dissipate heat outwards. The car itself will cut the circuit off after 5 minutes or so.
Love the brightness of the light and the simplicity of the installation.
Thank you sir!
Brilliant! It would be great if you also provided a dimmer version so we could swap back and forth without removing the trim again.

@@AbstractOcean Thanks for the explanation! I'm so glad someone has finally figured out how to upgrade the trunk light in the Model Y.

I could not get the latch cover off.
They apparently don't care. I have the same problem. Terrible service. Last time I buy anything from them.
Tesbros has an actual demonstration on how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/f4K7VbjmdjM/v-deo.html
Same here. Seems glued on or something.

upvoted!!!!
Installed the light, it is very bright. However, I noticed the light is very warm (actually hot) to touch, is this normal?

Not the correct way to place the new LED, need to keep the old housing box to keep it secured in place.
