BUTTER Changed My Hair! Use This Twice a Month for Long and Thick Hair (Best DIY Deep Conditioner)

  • Hi everyone! In this video, I show you how to prepare my absolute favourite DIY deep conditioner for Type 4 natural hair (especially low porosity hair). Technically, this is also a protein treatment but I say this with hesitation because I normally hate protein treatments as they leave my hair rubbery and make it snap so easily but this doesn't do that for me! I love using this overnight deep conditioner once or twice a month to revive my dry and frizzy curls. This mixture is more hydrating and easier to wash out so I think most of you will prefer it over unsalted butter by itself (although both are amazing). I can't wait for you to try this for yourself!
    DISCLAIMER: you do NOT have to leave this in for a full 24 hours I was just too lazy to wash it out. 8 hours is enough (you can either sleep in it or apply it in the morning and wash it out at night). Also, to completely get rid of the smell, you might have to shampoo more than 2 times.
    Ingredients
    1/2 block of unsalted butter
    1 ripe avocado
    1 egg
    1/2 ripe banana
    1 tablespoon of coconut oil (optional)

    I'm Eritrean and a chemistry geek so I always KNEW this day would come because butter is packed to the brim with saturated fats, So in theory the oils should penetrate very deeply, even more than coconut oil does. You have that same Coarse, protein sensitive ultra low porosity texture with coils we all do that looks type 3 and type 4 at the same time. Anyways, egg proteins too large to bind to hair so in all likelihood they rinsed away. As a DIY'er with a similar texture, replace the egg with honey and you will be shocked. Thanks for putting everyone on!!

    • @EthioBelle
      @EthioBelle  2 роки тому +26

      Wow thank you for this!! Always nice to learn the science behind things. I’ll definitely try it with honey next!

      Will yogurt be just as good?

    • @Sloppyjoey1
      @Sloppyjoey1 2 роки тому +22

      @@knHebrew Yogurt is temperamental. A good rule of thumb is that proteins that aren't hydrolized typically are too large to enter the follicle. Thus they often either rinse away or can sit on your hair and make it hard, coarse and sometimes dull (unless your hair is high porosity). It can lead to dull unmanageable hair that "snaps".
      Yogurt is also extremely high in protein and acidic. If your hair is limp, weak, undefined and stringy (high porosity)you might like it. If you have a naturally coarse / low porosity / resistant hair, it will likely be a disaster.
      DIY protein treatments are actually dangerous. I personally would not recommend using protein outside of a product because the product has been tested and they use mild proteins that penetrate the strand and don't build up.
      If you feel like your hair needs strength or protein and insist on DIY, Rice Water / Coconut Water and Aloe Vera Juice are the safest options that have been studied. They are naturally mild in protein content and are in liquid form that can be diluted. They are also a good and same CHEAP product to measure whether your hair likes or needs protein.
      Hope you enjoy your DIY!!

    🎈Hi Ms. Belle! I realize I am a late attender. However, I truly enjoyed your video. One factor of certainty is products the are grown from the soil, trees, plants, flowers, oceans, etc.
    If allowed to be taken in or digest. Certainly, perhaps, can be applied within other areas of the body as within our scalp. Although, depending upon the product being produce, process, or manufacture determines the outcome.🙄
    However, ..from the beginning of time, most plants were used for food and medicine for the soul. And the word of the living God saith, “I have given you everything within this earthly realm to use, you need to know how to apply it”… and it is so!! 🔥
    So therefore, it makes sense. I always knew there is definitely more natural holistic ways from this blessed earthly realm to be used and become sustainable. We just have to find the right ingredients accordingly because it was always here.🎁
    One factor I believe which causes certain hair dryness is due to our resident housing in regard to the “water content”, our indoor resident water supply carries consumption of several contaminants which contributes addition to dry scalp. Based upon certain factors of soft vs. hard water. Also, along with other inhibiting as climate, your well being, your diet, medical, but definitely there are resolutions to support those problems as well.😌
    Nevertheless, I will definitely considering using the products and will perhaps send you a follow up of the results as well.🥰
    Also, I would like to acknowledge Ms. Belle, (as a young disciple of God) your overall presentation of kindness, compassion, and humility which definitely portray such beauty of delight. And to be perfectly honest, I wish more women would caught hold of your demonstration “walk of wisdom”. Thank you soo much for your time and effort!! 🫠
    I apologize for such lengthy notation. but I am a writer/voice of heart, and you…😘

      I've been there - this mixture can help soften dry hair and prevent further damage but without cutting the split ends, brushing through it will still be difficult. I recommend using this deep conditioner (or any deep conditioner that works for you) regularly but at the same time, gradually trim your ends off so that eventually, you'll be free of split ends. That's what I had to do and it makes your hair a lot easier to manage :)

    Also I'd appreciate it if you could explain to me qhats the difference btw Ghee and Kibe?

    • @EthioBelle
      @EthioBelle  2 роки тому +3

      Hi - great question! I'll try my best to explain from my understanding of the differences. The term "kibe" is Amharic and literally translates to "butter." Ethiopians use that word to refer to any type of butter - solid unsalted butter from the store is Kibe, homemade butter that has been made out of heavy whipping cream is Kibe, clarified butter that other people would call Ghee is known as Kibe by Ethiopians. People have different ways of preparing Kibe depending on their use for it. For ex. if you want to eat it, you'd prepare Nitir Kibe (this is the TRUE Ethiopian Kibe), which is essentially Ghee with certain spices added to it. If you want to apply it to your hair, you have different options - I've grown up just using solid unsalted butter from the store (which is also called Kibe) but in the countryside of Ethiopia, people may like to clarify it by boiling it on low heat or take oil from animal meat and cool it into a solid. Different ethnic groups have their own way of preparing the Kibe that they use on their hair. I've included more info in the pinned comment of my Our Roots: Ethiopia video if you want to learn more. I hope that helps!

      Shampoo will get rid of most of the smell. 2-3 times should be enough (it's helpful to use a shampoo brush like the Vanity scalp massager to really clean your scalp). Don’t ever put butters or thick products in your locs or you will have issues in your journey. Your products need to be water based and have the consistency of water to be easily absorbed without build up. To answer your question yes it will! Because remember each loc is strands of hair compressed and confined together to create a loc-so butters will saturate there and create a nasty film in each of your locs especially at the roots! My advice is if you have products that works for you stick to them, there’s no magic product that can grow your hair. Your hair grows naturally.😊

      Caucasian hair becomes disgusting and smells after a few days of not washing ,afro hair is different. The scalp doesn't produce as much oil as caucasian hair so it doesn't get gross as quickly. As a result of the limited amount of oil, afro hair is prone to dryness and breakage. Frequent washing only going to exacerbate the issue. Washing afro hair a few times a month is perfectly healthy.
