Bad Voice Acting: Bread and Water Soup BUT with Yui (RAD)

- RAD (Robot Alchemic Drive) is a mecha game with a terrible dub for the localized version. I was surprised there was no english version of Yui, the third playable character, uploaded to youtube with this amazing scene of bread and water soup from yours truly, Nanao! In mission 21, Nanao's Water Soup, it literally starts off with this infamous scene uploaded 10+ years ago. It ended with blowing up her apartment with a grenade followed by the infamous "Kiyaaaaah!" read so plainly rather than voice acted. 2 of the 3 characters were they prior 10 years ago...but now, the trifecta is complete! And, with a good ol grenade to Nanao's apartment to follow the tradition.

This poor girl is supposed to have a miserable, traumatic story, but the voice acting and music just won't let it happen.

She does sound miserable and traumatic. She sounds like she's trying to mentally cope. You just want her to have the bog standard meek anime voice you hear everywhere.
Honestly, imagining her (or well, everyone) with a good voice actor and great score wouldn't make Nanao the precious gem she is currently. She'd probably fade into obscurity like the game did.
Besides, considering this is the same people who did Earth Defense Force? I think even the company realized bad voice acting is iconic.

If she's traumatized enough she actually ends taking her own life. It's clumsily mentioned by the MC and not shown in game for obvious reasons.

@@2minuss Our protagonist and Nanao have their first date at Nanao's place, where they dine on bread and water soup. She chokes down the slop and lies poorly to her that it's fine when Nanao asks five separate times if she likes it. Then Yui throws a grenade at her building for laughs. Neither of them enjoy themselves, and yet they both agree to a second date. Love wins!

it's tradition it seems. Check the single videos of the other protagonists interacting with Nanao and everyone seems to just do this so, I had to follow in the long passed on tradition.

Maybe it has something to do with her comparing the MC fighting int he robot to being no different than the giant monsters that killed her grandma orrr it could be because she's the only reaction to even destroying the Bakery she tells you that she works at so there's some kind of action/reaction reward with her. Joking. I just figured i'd stay in tradition as mentioned for the video. I genuinely feel bad for her in the story.

nanao: i know my grandma died in a blast localized entirely on her house and the last 10 workplaces i've had were destroyed by the same robot. but as long as no one bombs my house, everything will be okay.

This game is much more than Nanao Depression Simulator
ehh, not exactly different cutscenes. Different voice acting and a few line differences really. Though I would say your starting mecha can change the difficulty of things immensely which I do have some gameplay on my channel discussing this.

I honestly don't even think the voice acting sounds any bad. Especially Nanao has so much character to her voice. If anything, the writing is ridiculous and the comedically long gaps between each text box make things awkward

@@Lunarchy421 It's a lot of fun. it's so jank but they put their budget where it mattered, making it feel like you are controlling a mecha on a controller. I may make a how to play the game video or something. But in essence, shoulder buttons lift the left (and releasing them lets them drop down to walk), and analog sticks are for doing different types of punches with the arms. I play on advanced controls which is a ton of fun somehow.
RAD players: try not to ruin Nanao’s life even more challenge (impossible).

if you look into the voice actors, you'll find that they either had zero experience or only had done one other work before this one and never voice acted again.
