Actually it's the same guy who drew the characters for Cowboy Bebop. Fun bit about Ghost Stories, the anime company that sold the rights to ADV told them they could do whatever as long as it didn't fully affect the story. ADV just let the voice actors do whatever.
This is why I like this game. It is practically a Godzilla movie. Bad voice acting, stereotypical German Scientist, clunky controls. It all fits together for fans of the bad dubbing of the Godzilla movies. I honestly hope the bad voice acting was done on purpose because of that.
@@michaelteppner6749 The funny thing is... I feel R.A.D. is one of those games that 110% accomplished what it set out to do. It was a glorious homage to a style and Era of media and captured it with superb accuracy. While we my not be as numerous as other fandoms, R.A.D. definitely has a loving group of fan who appreciate the core of what the game represents.

If everybody was voiced by family members, there must have been an argument and that was the way to get back at the sound director. @@iiraingirlii because old English dubs of Japanese giant monster movies were really cheesy and bad and they were given like no time to voice all the lines so they just made em bad in a very funny way and they did a fantastic job
Yup, at a certain point you can get grenades your character can throw. The are even effective against the Volgara in certain episodes. I used to use the tank mech in tank mode and while the Volgara just walked into the mech I'd chuck grenades till it was destroyed.
It's actually not bad voice acting. The developer of the game told the voice actors to play it bad on purpose as a sort of satire on old monster movie dubbing. It's genius!
@@refinsa6228 Yes, I was also Roy/Hero2 . It was strange having one of my characters talk to the other. When we were in the sound booth though we had a little context about the conversation so we just read blocks of script and then sent it back to Japan where they just matched the voice files in the game. It was super quick turn around, I think Enix gave us like two weeks.
@@michaelteppner6749 Dear god! Two weeks for 50+ episodes, not even counting the variations depending on which hero/mech was chosen?! Its amazing you guys finished at all! Also, just want to say, thank you for the good work! RAD played a big role in my childhood and I loved every cheesy line. Me and a friend joke about Nanao's "Kiyaah" to this very day!
This wasn't even the best of it. I used to have a PS2 demo disk that had RAD on it, and the VA was even worse. Favorite Nanao line was "GRANDMA!... NO!..." and my favorite live overall was "Doctor Hourai!... Why..."
Gosh, the English dub is... kiyaaaah Thank God that I had the Japanese one, but still, it's iconic since most tokusatsus and old monster movies had bad dubbing, this game is like the Ghost Stories of videogames
@@ernestb77fr In certain episodes you would have to destroy her home and places where she worked, and a few other things. At the end the main character mentions how she committed suicide. Also after certain missions there would be cut scenes where she talks about how her home or job has been destroyed. There is one point where she's looking through the want ads and sees a job for a bar hostess, implying she turned to prostitution.
There's a good reason for that. Maybe not for the voice acting or the dialogue... but the gameplay is bad ass. C'mon, how can two giant robots fighting not be awesome?

I thought this would be something like the Ghost Stories dub because the characters look *very* similar.
Actually it's the same guy who drew the characters for Cowboy Bebop.
Fun bit about Ghost Stories, the anime company that sold the rights to ADV told them they could do whatever as long as it didn't fully affect the story. ADV just let the voice actors do whatever.

This is why I like this game. It is practically a Godzilla movie. Bad voice acting, stereotypical German Scientist, clunky controls. It all fits together for fans of the bad dubbing of the Godzilla movies. I honestly hope the bad voice acting was done on purpose because of that.

@@michaelteppner6749 The funny thing is... I feel R.A.D. is one of those games that 110% accomplished what it set out to do.
It was a glorious homage to a style and Era of media and captured it with superb accuracy.
While we my not be as numerous as other fandoms, R.A.D. definitely has a loving group of fan who appreciate the core of what the game represents.

If everybody was voiced by family members, there must have been an argument and that was the way to get back at the sound director. That voice is so lifeless and monotone a normal person couldn't emulate it even if effort was put into sounding that awful.
I love this game, learning that the "bad" dub was probably done on purpose and all in about 2 weeks makes me love it even more

@@iiraingirlii because old English dubs of Japanese giant monster movies were really cheesy and bad and they were given like no time to voice all the lines so they just made em bad in a very funny way and they did a fantastic job

Yup, at a certain point you can get grenades your character can throw. The are even effective against the Volgara in certain episodes. I used to use the tank mech in tank mode and while the Volgara just walked into the mech I'd chuck grenades till it was destroyed.

It's actually not bad voice acting. The developer of the game told the voice actors to play it bad on purpose as a sort of satire on old monster movie dubbing. It's genius!

@@refinsa6228 Yes, I was also Roy/Hero2 . It was strange having one of my characters talk to the other. When we were in the sound booth though we had a little context about the conversation so we just read blocks of script and then sent it back to Japan where they just matched the voice files in the game. It was super quick turn around, I think Enix gave us like two weeks.

Also, just want to say, thank you for the good work! RAD played a big role in my childhood and I loved every cheesy line. Me and a friend joke about Nanao's "Kiyaah" to this very day!

This wasn't even the best of it. I used to have a PS2 demo disk that had RAD on it, and the VA was even worse. Favorite Nanao line was "GRANDMA!... NO!..." and my favorite live overall was "Doctor Hourai!... Why..."

@@ernestb77fr In certain episodes you would have to destroy her home and places where she worked, and a few other things. At the end the main character mentions how she committed suicide. Also after certain missions there would be cut scenes where she talks about how her home or job has been destroyed. There is one point where she's looking through the want ads and sees a job for a bar hostess, implying she turned to prostitution.
The last time I saw a similar video, the voice actor was saying, " Are u okay, UwU? "
