She's not the only woman who does it. She's just the best! And, yes it's safe, if done correctly. She's been doing it for over 15 years and can still sing like an angel. She's using her false vocal folds when screaming, so no damage is being done to her true vocal chords.

Happy introduction to Jinjer! What people usually listen after this, from their songs, is Perennial live at Wacken, and then Judgement (& Punishment) vocal in one take. The first one is live at a metal festival in Germany, the second one is a studio session with just her and a microphone (and the backing track).

  • @MLuxemburg

🔥Welcome to the Jinjer family, Liberty Belle! I just found your channel, great reaction (I love seeing laughter when Pisces surprises!), subbed! Thank you for bringing the fantastic genre twisting music of Jinjer to more people! I love their energy, how tight they are, the heaviness mixed with complexity and groove, beautiful singing and growling and especially Tatiana's lyrics!
The first time I heard Pisces in 2019 I hadn't liked any metal with growling and it took me a few listens to start liking it, but now Tatiana is my favorite vocalist and Jinjer my favorite band (Pisces has been my wake up alarm for a few years and I still love it more every time I hear it).
TLDR: skip to the last paragraph 😂
Sorry for the long comment, I just love Jinjer too much and love seeing people discover (and usually fall in love with) them and each of their songs!
My three favorite comments about Jinjer that I've seen, "terrifying levels of talent", "I hate it when a Jinjer song ends", and "that was more unexpected than my first child" 🤣
For most of their songs, the three guys write most of the instrument music, then Tatiana writes most of the lyrics and melodies (she gets tons of well deserved credit for her vocal and stage performance abilities, but maybe not quite enough for her lyrical and musical composition abilities). Roman the guitarist has written a lot of the instrument music in the past, so he's a huge part of the sound of Jinjer, but Vlad the drummer (who also plays guitar and classical piano, but so far not in most Jinjer songs - I think he played piano in lainnereP) has been writing more of it and wrote nine of the eleven songs for the latest album Wallflowers. Eugene composes some - he wrote the instrument music for one song on Wallflowers and a few songs on other albums, and I know that apart from his amazing work on the bass, he adds riffs and has written lyrics for a few Jinjer songs.
Jinjer has been a tour-heavy band, touring almost nonstop from 2013 to 2020 and much of the time since then (with interruptions by covid and the US backed coup/proxy war), hard work that has made them fantastic live performers. The band (all members have been Ukrainian, with Russian their first language) started in eastern Ukraine in 2009 as a group of three (then five) with none of the current members (they consider the official start of the band when Tatiana replaced the male vocalist and Roman joined as lead guitar 2009/2010), Vlad is the fifth drummer (joined in 2016) and it's been a group of four since 2015 (though they consider their road sound engineer Sasha to be a fifth member). I think they're still friends with all the former members and you can see their former guitarist turned actor, Dmitry Oksen, in older videos on guitar and a more recent video (Disclosure) playing an interrogator.
One of the things I love most about Jinjer is the messages in Tatiana's lyrics and the way she combines growling and beautiful singing with Jinjer's fantastic instrumentals to be so powerful for expressing the anger and pain in those messages: the anti-war message in Home Back, the anti-greed in On The Top, Mediator and No Hoard Of Value (also the horror of the coal mining industry in their home Ukraine), the protest song Who Is Gonna Be The One, the anti-fascism of Sit Stay Roll Over, the anger at people being narrow minded in Teacher Teacher and Judgment & Punishment, the struggles with mental health in Pit Of Consciousness, Vortex, Wallflower and Perennial, the giving voice to mother nature angry at humanity for letting capitalism destroy her in a bunch of songs like Ape, The Prophecy, Cloud Factory, Noah, Outlander and Bad Water. Other favorites are I Speak Astronomy, Retrospection, Words of Wisdom, Just Another, Captain Clock, Scissors, Exposed As A Liar, I Want It I'll Get It, A Plus Or A Minus, Dip A Sail, When Two Empires Collide, lainnereP, Prologue and Beggar's Dance (those last two are short album bookends that could do well together in one reaction if you're so inclined).
I haven't found a Jinjer song I don't love, so I think you can't go wrong if you choose any of them, but a few good choices might be Perennial (official and/or live at Wacken, both are must-see), Teacher Teacher (official), Judgement & Punishment (official and/or Tatiana's one take performance, again both must-see), Pit of Consciousness (official and/or live in Kiev/Kyiv, a third where both are absolutely must-see) or the heartwrenching plea against war in Home Back (official video).
Thank you, Liberty Belle! I hope you'll keep trying out more Jinjer and laugh and enjoy! ❤🖤🤘

  • @coder4liberty
    @coder4liberty Місяць тому +1

You could do that too. Along with various other techniques she is using a technique called false chord screaming/growling. The false chords extend over your actual vocal chords when you swallow to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who use the technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles to make sound. The sound has no pitch, it's a broad band noise but they can then use the nasal cavity, their mouth and every other part of their vocal system to shape the sound. With pure false chord the vocal chords are completely open but singers who are really good at it (like Tatiana) can add in the vocal chords for additional pitched sounds. There are several other women in metal who use the technique. It's biology so everyone who does it sounds slightly different. Tatiana learned it because she heard the singer in a band called Otep do it among other male singers doing it. Tatiana has been doing this for about 15 years.
Pretty much every video they have on UA-cam is good but you might especially enjoy Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019, Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal Performance, Wallflower, I Speak Astronomy (which is from the same album as this song) and the Teacher Teacher music video.

Oh you were born to be a UA-cam reactor! I predict great success for you. Your face is priceless. You're not one of these stone faced stoics. Every emotion is reflected in your face, and I love it! Lol ventriloquist dummy with the drummer's hand up her WOAH WAIT. That's one of the best reactions I've seen to this, and I've seen a lot.
Lol yes she's ok. In fact it's quite healthy. Less strain on the vocal cords than belting--or even talking loudly. It's false cord screaming. Apparently there are four different ways to do it. There's a good channel called Voice Hacks that offers technical breakdowns of how to do it. I've been singing professionally for decades, and I'm learning to do it now. It's fun! It's just more colors on your sonic palette. More ways to express a range of emotions.
Instant subscription for your honesty and beauty. When you put your hand to your cheek you gave me a Lucy vibe! Your mouth is so pinup girl! Please keep it up with the Jinjer! They're my favorite band. Tatiana singlehandedly made me appreciate harsh vocals. But they're so much more than that.
Everyone will tell you to check out Perennial live at Wacken next, to prove to yourself that Tatiana can really do this live, and they're not wrong. I think you're really gonna love Tatiana's one-take sing-through of Judgement (& Punishment). The surprises come thick and fast. Jinjer is a top tier band with multiple influences, and Tatiana is a chameleon of a singer. I quickly came to appreciate the power of her expressiveness. I find it super empowering from a feminist standpoint too.
Even though it might not be your thing, I hope you continue with Jinjer. That was fun!

When the war in Ukraine started they all volunteered. They were told to continue touring and support the cause. Should have kept her. She would have won a few battles just by scaring the hell out of the enemy. Tatiana is a Pisces. The song is about swimming upstream looking for light and love only to be caught and killed by handsome butchers. She’s a berserker. Floor with Nightwish is a Valkyrie. Maria with Nightwish is a sorceress/priestess. Aurora is a serious/fun quirky forest fairy angel. Luv ya sweetie! 😊❤

It's never too late to try. There are a few, far too few female vocalists doing this. It might hurt first, but you'll get along and used to it. You know, in 50's and 60's and even to today, women were and are told not to try and be powerful and be themselves, not to bring their voices out loud for everyone to hear, not to bring out frustration and pain.
There's no reason not to, not anymore.

Harsh vocals both from women and men are common in the type of music Jinjer does.
So with deepest respect to you I must say that It says more about the genres you usually listen too.
And a part from you, my personal opinion is that that very many (especially Americans) seem to think that the only existing music there is. Is the music that they know and are used to.
When theres been existing kinds of music for very many years outside US.
Last years we see many US people discover and react to music thats been around in Eu and for an example japanese metal, Canada and so on. For many years.
It sometimes makes at least me think that US people living in their own little bubble.
Its also interesting that when they hear music they never heard. They like to reference it to the typical American bands or artists. That not seldom have not been around as long as the European or Japanese ones that infact had the originality...
Haha theres a joke going around within my friends...
    That says:
Americans dont know what going on outside their country...Infact they dont know whats going on outside their state...haha (Don't take offense its just Irony and makin fun...)
Ive seen American reactors (especially men) be totally amazed by seeing female metal bands... Like that should be anything strange when we seen that for like the last 25 years in Eu and Japan for an example.
Just as that female harsh and growling metal artists has been around for a long time.
Its just a technique of singing as other kinds.
This is not a ranting over you or other reactors. American or not . Im just glad that late or not new people discover and after what taste they may have, finds new music to enjoy.
Im a new subscriber from today. Love from Stockholm Sweden/ J

Here is my contribution to your musical journey. Just do a UA-cam search for Bridge City Sinners - Devil Like You (Official Music Video) I think you may enjoy it. At least I hope you will and no there will be no suprise screaming.

"Are there other women who sing like this?" Ya, Floor Jansen, Alissa White-Gluz, Angela Gassow, Courtney Laplante, Simone Pluijmers (probably the best), and a whole bunch of others. Anyone can learn the technique and it's totally healthy when done right.

With practice and proper training anyone can sing/speak like that. It's healthy if proper technique is used but can be unhealthy using bad technique.

Another woman who can sing and scream like this is Courtney Laplante of Spiritbox. Check out the Live One Take of Circle With Me. You'll see her doing it live and personally I prefer Courtney's singing voice and scream/growling vocals.
