What is your favorite meal or dish?
Holzfaller schnitzel. Hell, any schnitzel....of course, Ich bin Deutsche!
Jinjer Soup. Keep slurplin' I always say teacher teacher 2nd Perennial live 3rd. Then Home Back music video if you need a good cry.
I have simple taste, i enjoy hamburger or steak with pepper sauce
Penang Assam Laksa. Seems like hardly anyone gets it quite right, but when it happens ...
Pizza...breakfast, lunch, dinner...and you may say that would get old really fast...but I make all sorts of flavors of pizza!😋
This is usually the video that introduces folks to Jinjer but their library is so incredible. Welcome to another rabbit hole!
And this is unusually straightforward for them. It's just the usual starting point because of the shock value due to them starting really soft and clean. And simplicity of course helps getting on board with the band.
I second this!
Tatiana Shmayluk, vocal goddess and vocal athlete. She can do this with Jazz, Blues, Rap and Reggae. The drummer Vlad is a classically trained pianist who was able to transfer his skills and training to the drums. There is a video out there of Vlad playing Rachmaninov on piano. The lead guitar Roman and bass Eugene up to the task of playing on the same level with Vlad. Four amazing artists working perfectly together.
All freaking incredible musicians!
I think you will like "Teacher, Teacher". imho Jinjer's masterpiece. Take the official video. This song takes you by surprise every ten seconds.
The technique Eugene is using is called fretboard tapping, or simply tapping.
Think Eddie Van Halen.
Or Billy Sheehan.
I think some folk call it 'Hammer-On' also
And the effect it has on the sound is that it softens the attack of the notes.
@@theidajawho well, a hammer-on is done with one hand, not two.
7/8 and then 3/4. The transition makes the verse change gears for the chorus. She's using mostly false chord engagement for the growls. The false chords sit above the actual vocal chords and extend over them when you swallow to help keep food from going down the wrong way. Singers who learn the technique learn to control those otherwise involuntary muscles to make sound. You can think you are using the false chords but you are actually using the vocal chords when doing this which can damage the voice. The bass technique is tapping. It doesn't have the same attack as a pick. Much softer rounder tone.
They are an excellent band live. You pretty much can't go wrong with any of the official live videos. A few suggestions would be Outlander Live at Loudfest, Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kyiv (she goes about as low as it gets there. it's a dark song so she goes dark), Captain Clock Live at Resurrection Fest, Cloud Factory Official Live, Who is Gonna be the One Live and Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal. Their songs Teacher Teacher, Home Back and I Speak Astronomy have some crazy time signature stuff.
I find that the pre-chorus does better as 6/8 but that's just a detail
The interlude before the chorus switches to 4/4, and the chorus sticks with it, but it's five measures of 4/4 each time through, which is really weird and why it sound odd.
@@PaulGuyexactly. That's the oddest 4/4 I think I've ever heard! It took me quite a while to figure that out, I was thinking of it as one big measure of 20. When I figured out it was 4 it was a total mind blower.
Jinjer is one of the bands in metal today. Every Jinjer song is a unique adventure.
Welcome to the Tatiana fan club. I love that you appreciate how talented everyone in this band is. They’re all insanely good.
Yes as a band in whole .. they are SERIOUSLY creative and thoughtful. You might want to check out " Perennial " live at Waken, " Teacher Teacher " ( official video ) and " Who is gonna be the one " ( official video ) at the very least. Yes there is tons of other great songs by them both in Official releases and live.
Welcome to the Jinjer family! ❤
We have such sights to show you! Perennial live at Wacken, Judgement & Punishment one take vocal, Vortex, Wallflower, Teacher Teacher, Outlander, Disclosure, Mediator, Sit Stay Rollover. Today is the first day of your new Jinjer life lol!
Welcome to Jinjer. The band has 3 great jazz-influenced musicians and 1 vocal goddess. To appreciate how good they are, react to their live performances. I recommend "Perennial" live at Wacken for a follow up. Great reaction. Well done (SUbbed)
WHAT?!?!? WHAT?!?!?!? WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!!!? 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Lololol its the absolutely genuine "YAAAAS" for me
Just gonna say, this is, by no means, thier best song. It's a great song, and it's beautifully shot in this vid, but they have some REEEAALLY good tracks.
They sound just as good live in concert too.
They are stellar musicians. Masters of their craft.
I learned of Jinjer many years ago from my son who is a flautist, guitarist, drummer, and mechanic by trade lol. They are a prog metal band, so the time signatures will be everywhere. They combine jazz, reggae, classical, punk, and other genres into their music. Their drummer is a classically trained pianist.
Yeah, could talk for hours on their music.
Anywho, loved the reaction and hope to see more in the future.
Hahaha, love your enthousiasm. Believe it or not, still at least 20 high level tracks and performances to go. Jinjer is not a one day fly, they are frontrunners in their genre and beyond. Have lots of fun.
Tatiana is a vocal beast who will rip your lungs out !! Fucking awesome !
This is one of those videos that broke YT, because the shock factor of her vocal switch basically gets everyone. I think she used a very sweet clean voice on the verses intentionally, to create the maximum contrast possible. Which was a shrewd call. As for her vocal technique, coaches across the board conclude she is using her false cords to create the low growls. And she can go noticeably lower than that. Try “Home Back”, which addresses the conflicts in their home country of Ukraine for even deeper growling at the end. Lastly, just love the unfiltered reaction- if a song makes you swear, then let it out.
With that tapping on the bass he's producing notes with both hands--like a piano player does.
The meter for the song makes you feel like your on water. Like rocking on a boat or riding a wave. Huh. Pisces. And the bassist was transitioning walking and tapping. They are so versatile. And you just got Jinjered. Welcome aboard.
I've seen so many reactions to this song and you're the first person to touch on the scale of the lyric "underworld". This makes me happy.
The next stop of this Jinjer journey is Perennial live at Wacken ❤
Jinjer is big into jazz fusion. They love incorporating jazz elements into their music. They'll do things like drop a straight up bossa nova breakdown into the middle of a harsh metal song. They'll use reggae, Latin, big band, and all sorts of other genres as the framework to build their metal songs. They're quite unique.
Pisces- two fish one angelic and one demonic in one person fighting for control. The Yen and Yang of the zodiac. As for the growl think of doing a bear growl or big dog growl and using the tongue and air to form words and you have to work up to a scream/growl. She developed a female growl and wasn’t happy with it and taught herself how to do a male growl.
Funniest video to see firsttimers react to.
I've seen this video countless times and Tatiana's "third" voice gets me every time.
Eugen is an amazing bass player. You should check out some of his playthroughs of some of their songs
Oooh another one! :)
Eugene is finger tapping notes on the bass with his right to hit notes that are out of reach of his left fretting hand that's already fretting other notes because they're too far away and the hand is only so big. Guitarists do this a lot, it's rarer to see a bassist do this, but it still happens. Jinjer also used to have a second guitarist. After he left, Eugene started writing bass parts that filled out the arrangement more to fill in some of the space the former guitar occupied. They also dropped the guitar and bass tunings from drop C to drop A when there was just the two of them.
seeing him do it live is even more impressive
LOL, calls tapping tapping "I don't know what it is" that was super cute.💚 as was the immediate excitement at Tati's growls. I love watch8ng people fall in love with this band.
Oh shit, a fellow flautist? Ok, *former* in my case. I still *have* a flute and a busted piccolo, but hardly touch em. -Subbed-😅 oh oh oh! Be'lakor has a song with flute!!! A Natural Apostasy! Be'lakor is my favorite band (the tiniest fraction above Jinjer & Unleash the Archers). Highly reccommend.
...and because you're a former flutist, I'm adding these groups to my reaction lists. 😉
You are going to enjoy your Jinjer journey. If you're looking for utter chaos musically.and to discover the depths of Tati's growl check out Home Back or Vortex. Home Back is about the band being forced from their home in Donetsk Ukraine after Russia initially invaded back in 2014. Vortex is a bit more personal to Tatiana sounding anxiety.
Welcome to the amazing music of these talented musicians,
I want to suggest you
"Who is gonna be the one" (official live video)
Thanks for your reaction !!
YUH. More Jinjer pls 👍
the original version of this song was written on bass guitar - this song is actually still considered by the band to be unfinished... the entire ending changed to what it is now while recording it for the album. used to be an entirely different ending, different tempo and key
The part that I’m always amazed by is no matter how deep Tatiana goes with her harsh vocals, I can still understand the words.
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the introduction to this hybrid beast. This is what happens when skilled musicians actually make music. You might say that is what all "music" is but it ain't necessarily so. Also a day without NittPicc is like night.
Welcome to Jinjer, I hope you continue down this awesome rabbit hole, they have a very deep catalog of amazing songs for you to discover!
Please do more Jinjer soon. This barely scratches the surface of their capabilities. They are amazing live too! See: Perennial Live Wacken...
It always makes my day when I find a new reaction video for this song.
I've seen them live three straight years. Hope to see them again this year. She is even better live!😁
Reactions to Tatiana's gutteral voice never disappoints
A warm hug with spikes 🥰😈😂
They made this video to showcase the drummer and it went crazy - the musicians are as amazing as her voice is
The time signature varies a bit but is dominantly 7/8 timing; as there’s a lot of classical training (piano) by the drummer he makes it feel easy, there’s a strong jazz influence on the song. Yeah Tatiana is a vocal beast plus an amazing lyricist, also a Pisces - which is what the song is about, duality; just like her personality, on stage she’s a monster, away from it she’s quite shy and retiring.
The Bass style includes ‘tapping’ which is done by tapping down from a fretted note with the fingers usually plucking the strings.
Great reaction, another Tatiana fangirl as usual! 🌹
Hmm, maybe you would like a band called The Warning, they’re very good musically - 3 sisters all classically trained on piano but formed a band in 2013/4, their cover of Enter Sandman (they were 9, 12 and 14) went viral, 25 million+ views, and they’ve come a long way since then! 1 EP, 2 singles and 3 (soon to be 4) albums all of songs of their own composition. They are the only band from Mexico to get signed to a major American label (Lava records), they sing predominantly in English but have done 2 songs in Spanish. Their latest single is called S!CK you will find a link to it in their UA-cam channel!
You're such a metal girl, I Iike you!
I jumped into this rabbit hole years ago and I never tried to get out. Tati is an absolute freak of nature and so beautiful too. Other than Angelina Jordan, there is no woman on the planet that can get you "hyped" or emotional than this woman right here.
Believe it or not, the chorus is in 4/4. It's one of the trickiest 4/4's I've ever heard.
Great reaction! You've been Jinjered!
I discovered them about a year and a half ago and they quickly became my favorite band. As a professional bassist/singer for 45 years now, they tick every box for me. Great musicians, great songs, great band.
They're working on a new album right now, after finishing up a massive dual tour, opening for Disturbed and headlining their own shows in between Disturbed dates. This is a band that must be seen live! I strongly recommend you grab tickets as soon as they become available for any shows they announce for 2024, especially headlining shows. They need more than 30 minutes onstage, and few bands can hold their own headlining over them. If you're anywhere near Milwaukee, Wisconsin or Las Vegas, they have announced two makeup shows in April 2024 for shows that had to be canceled in 2023. Both headlining shows. They've said the album will drop this year, and that they'll be out and about touring. So far those are the only North American dates announced.
Welcome to the Jinjer rabbit hole. Enjoy the journey. Tatiana is a beast!
Eugene Kostyuk is the bassist and he uses several different techniques, but on this song he uses a two hand tapping technique. He has a bass play through of this song on UA-cam.
Verse is 7, prechorus is 6, chorus is 5 measures of 4
Yes! It took me quite a while to decipher the emphasis in the chorus, and then realize BOOM it's in 4!!
The bass player is awesome,he is playing right handed bass and he is left handed..
There is a great video of just Roman (guitar) and Eugene (bass) doing a playthrough of this. The tapping is something they do to fill out the sound since there is only one guitar
The technique you were asking about with the bassist is actually called "tapping". If you want to see the master, check out Eruption from Van Halen.
"The minor key we're in feels comforting. It's like a warm hug, with spikes in it. It feels good."
That is SUCH a beautiful statement, thank you for that. That so perfectly describes much of the goth, metal, and grunge music I've loved for much of my 56 years on this planet, but could have NEVER put into words as wonderfully as you did right there. ❤
Welcome to the Jinjer family! They are heavily inspired by Opeth, so if you haven't given them a listen yet I suggest starting out with their line performance of 'Ghost of Perdition' at Red Rocks.
Welcome to Jinjer. She uses her false chords for the growls. Perennial live at Wacken shows her talent well.
Best Pisces reaction in a long time ... I've seen so many others look stupid, act stupid, speak stupid. But you feel it 😆 I wonder how many chills and goosebumps you got. I've been following Jinjer since 2019, I've watched about 80% of the over 1000 reactions here in youtube. And I've seen Jinjer 3 times live. They are just different, a star at the metal sky which gets darker and darker .... 2023 was so poor... many new bands, but each of them copying anybody else or told by the industry how to sound. Jinjer doesn't care and if covid hadn't come, they surely would be co-headlining the great festivals ... so they had to go the long way ... but I hope they reach the peak one day.
You surely have a new fan ❤🤘
Another Jinjer fan was born 😅
Another tip, Wintersun
NITT. Your energy in this reaction balanced with you knowledge was outstanding truely ❤
That was a lovely mixture of shock and delight at Tatiana growling!
Jinjer is great.
Yeah yeah you nailed it with trying to dissect the tapping eugene was doing! Hes playing the low bass line by just hammering on with his left hand and accompanying himself and the other guitar melody in the higher registers of the bass with his right hand tapping. Cool to see you go through that realization!
This band is so good and one of my favorites hope you check out more. They're great live too! The time signatures def keep you on your toes, the whole band is amazing!
First the Maids, then Jinjer....need some Rush and all my bases will be covered! 😎
Loved your reaction! Yes this band is fire! Perennial live at Wacken, Judgment&Punishment, Teacher Teacher, Vortex, I Speak Astronomy, ….i could go on and on
Just stumbled across this by accident because for some reason its not in the Jinjer reaction feed but you really need to see their Pit of Consciousness live Kiev from 2019 in their home country Ukraine before it was invaded.Outstanding
Her "death metal voice" is a voiceless technique called false cord. A huge part of doing harsh vocals safely is training yourself to disengage your true folds at will. With the right discipline and training, you will not hurt yourself.
Thanks for discussing the time signature, I've never manged to get my head around it.
that belt at like 13:00 for example and before is perhaps the most important part of this video, as we may never hear it again - afaik she stated that it made her worry for her vocal chords and thus would no longer perform it live or again for this song.
😂welcome....best next stop parennial live at wacken 2019 🎉❤golden queen of matal 😊
Eugene is simply tapping the bass line and also tapping harmony higher up.
Sits back grabs the popcorn and waits for it........😂
Still can't get enough of seeing people get their 🤯 by Tatiana, she is my Siren and my Succubus \m/😍\m/
Welcome to the Jinjer rabbit hole. They are excellent live too
And there is no use in falling in love with Tatiana - she is already married to the former Suicide Silence and current POD touring drummer Alex Lopez 😊
😭😭😭
You’re in love? Back of the line sister there are a few million of us ahead of you! “Teacher Teacher” OMV would be great next Jinjer song.
If you don’t know them, I think you would love Unleash the Archers also. I suggest their full band play through of “Awakening”
Cheers from Texas 🇨🇱🤘🏻😎
These guys shift time signatures like it was easy - watch Judgment and Punishment, in which they fuse reggae and metal, and watch Vortex
I love this type of reactions welcome to the rabbit hole that is jinjer greetings from Bogota Colombia
new sub
I saw them live here in Chile in 2018...a truly experience...Tatiana is amazing...the stage presence is unique...recommendatios,: Perennial live, Who is gonna be the one live, Captain clock live
Great Iron Man collection back there! Respect.
I really liked your reaction. I'd love to see how you react to Who's Gonna Be The One Live and Perennial Live at Wacken, that one is my favorite, because it's the last song of their set and while they're performing, they sound fresh AF!
a great reaction to an excellent song.
I'm a musician myself and I can totally understand what you're saying.
Thanx so much and lovely greetings from germany.
Although I haven't been into metal music that much in my life, more like rock, funk, acid jazz, blues, fusion...
Jinjer has been one of my favorite bands for over 6 years because they are so much more than a metal band.........
til next time > maybe: JINJER - Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019) | Napalm Records
Jinjer is UA-cam Crack. It's 7/8
Love your reaction - watching you immediately start counting it out from the start was like, hello, here comes some genuine intrigue & insight :)
Easily my favourite discovery of the last decade when it comes to heavy.
metalcore as their base, with a good dollop of prog, groove, fusion and jazz.
The boys draft out and record all of the compositions first, then pass to Tati for her to figure out how to work her lyrics and vocal magic in.
Similar to a few other bands in this respect, including Tool - and like Maynard from Tool, Tati is an extreme introvert, not that you'd ever know when you see her perform on stage!
Every member of the band pulls their weight - if you decide to dive down the rabbit hole I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Roman (guitarist) is the one people seem to least gush about, but he's quickly become a huge inspiration in my own guitar playing.
What a great reaction AND analysis! Awesome job! 🤘😎🎶🎶🎶
When Jinjer tours near you please go to the show! They are even better live!!
Nice to see people react to this song that genuinely get excited. Perennial live at Wacken should be your next go to, then pick and choose from there. Great band, though I wasn’t as big of a fan of their newest album. Some people really like it, it’s just not for me. Saw them in October 2019. Unfortunately for me was the last show I’ve been able to attend, though it was a good one.
For your peace of mind, the verse is in 7/4, the prechorus is in 4/4, and the chorus is in 4/4 but repeats after 5 bars. The bridge is in 4/4 and the outro is in 3/4. Truly impressive how smooth all of the parts flow into each other.
I started doing fry vocals back in elementary school. In the 1980s. I was trying to make dinosaur noises. Blew my mind when I first heard Napalm Death in 1988.
You can do death metal growls without engaging true vocal folds at all, which means you also cannot damage them.
But it takes serious amounts of training to get it right.
However, you can tell they do it correctly when they can go from growls to pure cleans immediately and instantly. If you're hurting your vocal folds you cannot do that - there will be residual roughness on the clean vocals.
And Tatiana is well known for instant switches back and forth.
Priceless reaction one of the best by far. Do take the time to check out their lyrics they are close to poetry. And tatiana the the singer (tati) writes them herself. They are live just as good so whatever you choose next you can,t go wrong. Welcome to jinjer enjoy!
Love your reaction to Jinjer. Love the band.
Love watching people react to this lol, as a flutist you have to react to jethro tull locomotive breath , the live version or almost any of the their songs, you'll love it lol
Anything live, trust me. Also Spiritbox and Ankor
Big YES to Ankor and Spiritbox! If you like those two and Jinjer, allow me to recommend IKINÄ from Finland. They have TWO badass female singers who can both sing beautiful cleans and deliver brutal harsh vocals--in harmony!
Also I think you'll like Future Palace a lot. They're a bit like Ankor. Enjoy!
They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, the part that was annexed by Russia in 2014. When the current fighting started , the guys were stuck in Kiev, but were eventually allowed to leave, to tour and be ambassadors for Ukraine. Tatiana is not going to hurt her vocal chords doing the growls, because she is not using them. She uses the false vocal folds. Tati is mostly self taught, her harsh vocal influences include Otep and Randy Blythe(Lamb of God). This live session was a redo of an older song to showcase Vlad on drums, as he had joined not long before this. Vlad is classically trained on piano, and self taught on drums. He, Roman(guitar), and Eugene (bass) are all awesome musicians. The guys write the music, and Tati writes most of the lyrics.
Pisces , as in the zodiac sign, the symbol being 2 fish swimming in opposite directions, so the key word here is duality. Tati and Eugene are both Pisces, he helped her finish up the lyrics.
The usual next step is to see her do it live, with either Perennial at Wacken 2019, or Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev. Other songs to try: Vortex, Teacher Teacher, Judgement (And Punishment), I Speak Astronomy, and Home Back.
You gotta watch their live clip "Who is gonna be the one" next Tatiana goes Beast mode ,, bass player Eugene goes Beast mode
Jinjer is not my style of music, but i like thise one. The last switch back to the smooth voice with lyrics: Neptuns child... is stucked in my head for years now. And i already said in your reactions, that i love bass guitar.
Jinjer is such a great band! Keep going all their songs are great.
tatiana is awesome and really loved your reaction, lots of good energy from lisbon
Super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good catch on 7/8
That was fun. :) If you want to dig into the techniques Tati's doing I suggest two reaction videos by The Fairy Voice Mother: to Pisces and Eskimo Callboy's "Hypa Hypa" where she gives a friend a very actionable tutorial. Also two interviews in Loudwire's learned to scream series with Tatiana and Courtney LePlante from Spiritbox. Subbed. Cheers!
