Lol. It's always fun to watch someone reacting to Jinjer for the first time. She produces those growles using her upper or vastibular folds (also called the 'false' vocal cords) which everyone has. These false cords sit just above your normal vocal folds ('true' vocal cords).

EDIT to add. I was never into harsh vocals until I discovered Jinjer. Now I love and appreciate the talent it takes to makes these sound. I even got to see Jinjer live in Seattle last year. Amazing show. Another great band I would suggest is Spirit Box. Their song Rule of Nines is a great first listen.

I had the chance to see them Dember 5th here in New Orleans. Total badassery. All Hail the Yeti was awesome. Suicide silence was OK. Not my cup of tea. Jinjer was phenomenal.

I always thought that Ann Wilson, from Heart, was the Roger Daltry of women vocalists until I heard Tati. She is the strongest, most versatile singer I have ever heard.
Jinjer is pronounced like the spice, ginger. And you can find a live concert version of Pisces, just so you know this is not post production trickery! I've heard Tatiana say that she has had no formal vocal training; that ability to sing chest tones then growl comes "naturally" to her.

She does the growls with false vocal chords, so actual vocal chords are all relaxed when she does that.
Thus she can switch almost immediately.
But it requires really strong base and years of intense training. You can see her shoulders are back and neck is relaxed. The power comes down from core and floor.

The Angel has an inner demon.😁 This is known as growling. There is a wrong way to sing like this that hurts the voice, but she does it in a way that doesn't hurt her voice or she wouldn't be able to switch back and forth.
Hello Samantha Lisa, what an outstanding reaction. My reaction was similar, but I wasn't on camera! I never liked growling till I heard Tatiana. She is the #1 artist I've heard of since the year 2000. She holds the crown in the new decade.
Due to what is going on in Ukraine at this moment and them being from Ukraine, Home Back official music video would be a great next song.

That is False. She doesn't use her Vocal Cords. It's called False Cords. It's the rattle you hear and feel when you politely clear your throat. That sound is the beginning of the process.

That was a lot of fun. Makes me nostalgic for the day a few Christmases ago when I discovered my new favorite band. :) Two things you have to hear from them one now the other some day before too long. First is Perennial live at Wacken (pronounced Vaaken cuz it's 🇩🇪) because you have to see what they do on stage. At some point you should check out the official video for the song Home Back about their hometown in eastern Ukraine getting caught in the 2014 war, and which is even more heartbreaking now. Lots of growling and the lyrics are powerful so well worth reading the lyrics first - it won't spoil anything. You never knowwhat Jinjer will do. ;) There's also an address by their bassist and manager Eugene who is stuck in Kyiv along with guitarist Roman and drummer Vlad. Tatiana was lucky out of the country in the US with husband Alex Lopez of Suicide Silence when it started.
I've seen them twice in concer and they are epic. Tatiana is mesmerizing on stage. Shes shy and battles chronic depression but on stage she transforms into something superhuman. I just read that they were in Kiev a couple of days ago. They’re from the Ukraine. Tatiana Schmayluk is the woman. New artist - Aurora Aksnes from a village in Norway. Trust me; you like. The song Runaway from the Noble Peace Prize concert 2015. She wrote the song when she was 11 or 12 years old and was 19 at the concert. She was always “different” and even as young as six spent a lot of her spare time, day and night, alone in the woods with the animals. Was terrified about being on stage at first but wanted to share her thoughts. I’ve read that she would whisper to herself the value of pi (3.1416....... to infinity) to calm down. You’ll love her thoughts; watch The Seed next. You’ll love her too. The whole world does.

Just came across your channel because of this reaction and I would like to suggest two other bands that are not featured yet on your channel. That would be "Nightwish" (Symphonic, female fronted Metal) and "TOOL" (simply the greatest Rock Band out there at the moment). For Nightwish I would like to see you react to "Ghost Love Score - live at Wacken 2013". Make sure you get the official live version, because there is a slowed down blue-ray rip out as well. For TOOL start with "Schism" or "Sober" easier tracks for beginners. Make sure you go with original audio, because the videos will distract you. Regarding her "Satanic" voice, Sam: If you were a selfless fish (Pisces) who wanted to see the world but was a bit skittish, and then got into the nets and was hooked by handsome butchers who proceed to rip away your scales and entrails (emeralds)... you'd growl too! So you see, sometimes the lyrics call for extreme vocals in a song. Tatiana (who's not singing as someone possessed, so you can toss the garlic back into the spaghetti sauce) wrote an incredible story and sang about it the way it deserved to be sung... as with most of her songs. Some vocalist just keep singing in their nice and charming voice even when the lyrics call out desperation. Not so with Tati. Her extreme expression - a rare ability - adds so much more to a song... especially if you follow the music with the lyrics and how the beautiful cacophony tells the story.
Their song Home Back is a very poignant song even more so much now. They left their home country in Donetsk Ukraine because of the ongoing conflict/war there in 2014. They then toured for four years independently often playing well over two hundred gigs a year. Home Back is a bit more heavier musically and vocally but at the core of the song are the lyrics. Please have lyrics ready if you react to it.

The way she "Screams" is a technique where she uses what is known as false vocal chords that are actually used by the body to help prevent water from going into the lungs. The hardest part to learning this technique is actually finding your false vocal chords to use in the first place, then you can't force them when you scream, if you do so; you'll seriously injure yourself. You have to let it flow smoothly. That is how she can switch between "clean singing" and "screaming". Also, she hasn't had any formal training of any kind. Amazing...

What she's doing there is called false vocal chord screaming/growling. The false vocal chords are above your normal vocal chords so she's not actually using her actual vocal chords to do it. It's a very difficult vocal technique which takes a lot of practice and training. There are other vocalists who do it but I don't think anyone does it quite like she does. Jinjer is from Ukraine. You can see her do this stuff live with several UA-cam videos. One is "Perennial" live at Wacken Open Air, another would be "Who is going to be the one" live version. There are other live videos but some of them like a lot of live videos aren't good recording quality. Those two are. A lot of good regular music videos from them as well.
