In 1998 I hit the road on my Harley in the last week of July. I got back just in time for Thanksgiving. 48 states, 111 days and 17 thousand miles! It was the culmination of a dream I had had since I was 13 years old when I met a biker that was riding from CA to FL. I told myself..."Some day..." This song and many others rode through my brain all along the high plains, Sturgis, SD, twice across the Great Divide, across the desert, through the mountains, up the California coast, through the heartland, down to the Gulf of Mexico, and up into Maine! Other than the day my daughter was born and the day I graduated from Parris Island and earned the title US Marine, it was the greatest event (And adventure) of my life!
There are those who dream...and there are those who do and then share. Thank you for your service, Mr. Wrenn and thank you for doing and sharing what some of us can only dream about.
This song is the quintessential song of the loner. A constant yearning or angst, burning at them from the inside out. Never quite fitting in or feeling content. The last line says it all...."Next time, we'll get it right"!
I've tried not being a loner , I don't fit...had two GREAT wives , had two GREAT sons ....but somehow I prefer to be alone....it's nice to be with family and friends and sometimes a lady... but I been going my own way since I got my first horse at 9 and my first bike at 14...66 now ,ain't got a wife , my boys love me and I still got a bike...thanks Bob for all your great music ...I think you are the bikers poet
I agree 💯 Percent, but I also feel there's "Sweetness" in the "Bittersweet"; mine aches for the freedom, fearlessness and feeling of flight in my youth! And this scene in Armageddon F'n' Rocked!!! 🤘🏍️🤘
@@lisalilienthal7160 you put my feelings into words. My freedom, fearlessness, and my youth. If only we could go back in time. So many people say they have no regrets. I have a few big ones.
I first heard this song on the end credits of the film Mask. I was hooked immediately and I sought out other songs by Bob Seger. This ended up with me getting a cassette of his greatest hits. That tape came with me on my extensive drives around Australia, Scandinavia and America. This song goes with the indelible memories I made in those countries. Of course the tape wore out and now I have it on CD and memory card. If I feel down, I put this song on and relive those memories.
Yep. Mask brought me here a long long time ago.... But Uhhh, I just watched a Full Version of the movie and they inserted a different song in the end credits.
One of the best feel good songs out there. Just get in the car, windows down, volume up and hit the road. One of the best tracks ever and one to ensure the endorphins stay flowing. Never look back - Only forward. I've driven the length and breadth on both UK and NZ with this playing. Next stop Canada to Mexico down the West Coast.
For all the trips Clarence made to Cali from Colorado on that Harley to visit his grandson of his daughter that that passed away. That’s how I met him. Now we are together and married living in Colorado now. If it wasn’t for what happened in his life, we would have never met. In life through something bad that has happened is something good that comes out of it. I’m so sorry for his loss, but happy for ever meeting him. This is a life commitment and I’m always so in awe with him. This song and “Against the Wind” have great meaning. Bob Seger you Rockkk....thank you for your music.
Took a look down a westbound road Right away I made my choice Headed out to my big two-wheeler I was tired of my own voice Took a bead on the northern plains And just rolled that power on 12 hours out of Mackinac City Stopped in a bar to have a brew Met a girl and we had a few drinks And I told her what I'd decided to do She looked out the window a long, long moment Then she looked into my eyes She didn't have to say a thing I knew what she was thinkin' Roll, roll me away Won't you roll me away tonight I, too, am lost, I feel double-crossed And I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right We never even said a word We just walked out and got on that bike And we rolled And we rolled clean out of sight We rolled across the high plains Deep into the mountains Felt so good to me Finally, feelin' free Somewhere along a high road The air began to turn cold She said she missed her home I headed on alone, oh, oh Stood alone on a mountain top Starin' out at the Great Divide I could go east, I could go west It was all up to me to decide Just then I saw a young hawk flyin' And my soul began to rise And pretty soon My heart was singin' Roll, roll me away I'm gonna roll me away tonight Gotta keep rollin', gotta keep ridin' Keep searchin' 'til I find what's right And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight And I said next time Next time We'll get it right Roll me away Roll me away Come on Roll me away
Good thing. I would break up with someone who didn't love Bob Seger. It would not be a compatible relationship!! Ok, maybe not, but I would definitely, seriously consider it.

Getting older and I have two road trips yet to accomplish. Route 66 start to end and the Lincoln highway (Old 30) beginning to end. All on two wheels, no time limits, enjoying the ride.
Can only imagine how cool that will be. Lucky you! Love Seger, especially this song! Been a fan since the early 70's. Hope you can get to your trips soon! Don't forget to be blasting some Seger on the road! Godspeed.
First off, I wanna dedicate this song to my new found financial freedom, therefore I just paid off my house in full earlier this year at the age of 40 years old, and I'm now rejoicing by way of crying sweet tears of joy. And all is right in my life. Thank you Jesus, my prayers have been answered.

Discovering Bob Seger for the first time is like finding the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. Before Chris Stapleton, meet Bob Seger with better music to boot.
Getting a bike. Just so me and two of my best drinking buddies can find that bar. So far I have it narrowed down to the grand forks north Dakota area, but depending if he stopped for fuel or to stretch his legs is where the mystery lies
I woke up early am pushed her out of the driveway through a leg over left PNW currently in Mile High Colorado and just as soon as I get that weather I'm rolling and riding to whare no matters just me my bike and open road!!
It's, Seger, how do so many people have trouble spelling a 5 letter Name? It's like their trying to sound Cool! Like no Cigar, yet another one gets No CIGAR FOR SPELLING, IN MY BOOK! .

And then it kicks ass!! Amen to all of us being lost!! God bless you and your families.

Try sub-freezing in Maine in November! LOL!

REAL MUSIC WITH MEANING
I hear this song and my spirit wants to leave, far away, to the place I'll probably never find at all. ⚘
@SIXTY SIX MUSTANG It's a long, difficult, and painful story, but nothing lasts forever. Thank you, my friend, for your kindest words! ⚘
Took a look down a westbound road
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
And just rolled that power on
12 hours out of Mackinac City
Stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
And I told her what I'd decided to do
She looked out the window a long, long moment
Then she looked into my eyes
She didn't have to say a thing
I knew what she was thinkin'
Roll, roll me away
Won't you roll me away tonight
I, too, am lost, I feel double-crossed
And I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right
We never even said a word
We just walked out and got on that bike
And we rolled
And we rolled clean out of sight
We rolled across the high plains
Deep into the mountains
Felt so good to me
Finally, feelin' free
Somewhere along a high road
The air began to turn cold
She said she missed her home
I headed on alone, oh, oh
Stood alone on a mountain top
Starin' out at the Great Divide
I could go east, I could go west
It was all up to me to decide
Just then I saw a young hawk flyin'
And my soul began to rise
And pretty soon
My heart was singin'
Roll, roll me away
I'm gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin', gotta keep ridin'
Keep searchin' 'til I find what's right
And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight
And I said next time
Next time
We'll get it right
Roll me away
Roll me away
Come on
Roll me away
Just shared this with my Vietnamese sweetheart, she loves it.
