I was at the funeral of a good friend and Hells Angel on Saturday and they played this song at the end of the service as they took him out of the church for his final journey, I was choked up. Brilliant song.
I've been listening to this over and over tonight and I cry every time. I'm 67 years old and just made it through multiple bypass heart surgery with many complications. I rode for several years, live in the mountain west and rode across the continental divide many times - Yellowstone NP, Beartooth Highway, Sothern Utah, The Grand Canyon. This brings back so many heartfelt memories riding the open roads with friends, the words are perfect, they touch my sole. It's good be alive - I will have this played at my funeral! Be kind to yourself! Look down that highway and YOU decide which way to go! Peace to all.
Stood at the point trail at north rim Grand canyon last week in the morning sun. She took a picture of my back looking east in the sun glare. I was thinking, I could go east......Thanks Bob and for the free Get out of Denver 45 you gave out behind Paramount theater Portland one night after a show in about '74.
Brings up lots of memories for me also. Crazy about a guy and his Harley and Triumph, damn good times and heartbreaking ones too. Miss my youth but grateful I've lived with artists like Seger, Fleetwood Mac, Dylan, And so so many more!
Getting old sucks just had open heart surgery iv sold every thing I have all my old cars just to try and stay even, in this life of bills I refuse to sell my last harley davidson it's all I have left to get out in the wind !!!! Roll me away my friend !!!
Yep. Still listening to Bob. 2023. Keep rolling away.❤❤❤ No filth. No ugly costumes, no political statements just real rock and roll music. Thank You Mr. Seger.❤ Kudos to piano players. Brings the song to another level.
Hey Alice, I have Craigs autograph on a sheet piece (keyboard dude) , the song is lock and load, iam trying to get a friend to have Bob and Drew sign it, there is another person on the writing credit that I don't know. Just had to chim in I happen to know Craig very well, and I can tell you roll me away is Craigs favorite tune to do on stage. Thank You for your support .I have known Bobs group & mgt. for 4.5 decades. Denny Fie Monclova Oh. Keep on keeping it real, just like Bob did for us...
Nope! U will never guess in 100 years. Piano player on Roll Me Away is Roy Bittan of the E Street Band. I met Roy on the Born In The USA Tour 1985 in Coumbia, SC and he was surprised that I knew that. Seger asked him if he would play on that song. Roy Bittan is great piano player for Bruce and the E Street Band for last 50+ years. Bruce calls Roy the professor for a reason.
I'm a long time ,big fan and follower of Bob & The Silver Bullet Band,. * Very sad to hear Alto Reed had past. ( At 64 i made 11 live shows ,From early 70,s ~when Bob & the S.B.B were opening for B,T,O, Iowa JAM, Madison, Wisconsin ,Chicago IL ,TO SAN DEIGO and Texas, ( Bob put on ALL~ GREAT live shows ).GOOD TIMES . !!! * B ,GRAHAM * ,
My uncle passed away in 2022. He was 83, never married had no kids but had his share and then some of lady friends and been proposed to but never wanted to totally commit to one person. I totally respected him for that. His longtime female friend helped me plan his funeral and told me when they were together his fav song was Like a Rock. I had that song played at his funeral. He liked Bob Segar a lot but back in the day wasn’t really my cup of tea. Been playing that song a lot lately then this one came on and I can’t stop crying as Roll Me Away was my uncle in a nutshell!! He always had a great job, plenty of money and on weekends he didn’t care if he went E or W he’d jump on his Harley and take off. I adore Segar just wished I had before now. What a passionate down to earth American man’s man, just like my uncle was. 😢Thank you for posting this video!
October 13, 2024. I'm sending all of my life songs to an email account so that my grandson will hear my heart. I pray that he will love this music just as I do.
I grew up listening to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band on my dad's 8-track tapes. Dad was a Vietnam vet, and I always felt Bob's music said a lot of what my father was feeling, but never could express. Even so, he was a good man and raised a good family, despite his faults and sufferings. The last lines of this song, especially, I think say what he, and now I, feel....despite our best efforts, we wish we could have done better. I think it's an appropriate epitaph......"And as the sunset faded, I spoke to the faintest, first starlight....and I said next time....next time.......we'll get it right!"
I feel you there, my dad was in Vietnam too and surely love the memories of those 8 track tapes & vinyls. My Dad is the real deal and has been awesome all my life. He did well hiding his suffering from us all. He's still rockin out to Bob.

I am in my mid Seventies and I have requested my children, when time comes, to play his songs as they scatter my ashes in the pine grove beside my summer cabin. His songs have uplifted me throughout my adult life. ❤

My dad loved Bob Seger and I heard it tons growing up. As he was dying from lung cancer, I played this for him one day as I was shaving him. He perked up and really loved it. I will never forget that moment. Music is powerful. Miss you dad. 💔
You will probably never understand what that meant to your dad. As parents, we don't often share our vulnerable side. You made your father's day. That is what you should remember.
My mother passed away in October 1991 on her sisters birthday. My stepfather had been diagnosed sometime in the mid to late 80's with Alzheimer's. I lived in Alabama and my parents lived in Arkansas. I was left with the responsibility of his care. My mother had found a lady to live in and take care of my stepfather. It is kind of strange how things seem to work their way out. My mother loved music. In my preteens my mother bought records for me. I can still see her dancing to the rock n roll of the 60's.
He played at East Detroit high. Now it's easy point. When he recorded this song on his album at cobo he the the audience they would b on his album he great

I'm 30 years old an work at a car dealership here in the USA and i play him all day long in the shop working hard, revving the motors up in the shop and listening to seger
Segar knew how to touch America. His sounds revolved around life and things Americans hold dear. Harleys, Rock N Roll, Romance, Struggles. All of those he touched our souls. Thanks Mr. Segar for getting us through the last 62 years. From Vietnam to today, you brought your music to the world and the world is a better place for it ALL!
Yes! I’ve seen Bob in concert 3 times. The 70’s , 80’s and 2019. He still kills it ,Voice is as strong as ever !! He rejuvenates me , if I’m having a bad day, earphones on , blarin Bob. His music still has the power to soothe the savage breast. Love Bob !
I'm 69 yrs. young in '23 and have been a hard rocker literally since age 6. Seen most all of the biggest bands over the years......and heard countless tunes.....as all of the rest of you reading this have too, I know. I swear to the Good Lord that this may be the best song lyrics ever written. It hits SO MANY OF US RIGHT IN THE GUT.....men or women both. And Bob doing these live just belts these tunes of his out with no frills and some of the baddest mofo musicians ever to back a rock star. God Bless them.....God Bless America......and God Bless all the rest of us too.
I'm 60, and a widower from the great state of Indiana. I've been listening to Bob since high school in the late 70's. He's been a long-term soundtrack to my life and this classic, along with "Against The Wind" are reasons why he's in the Hall Of Fame. Thank you Bob from the Great Midwest of America.
Have you noticed that Bob Seger sounds the same playing live and singing in a studio. That's how you can say He was a natural born singer. He is the greatest of all time.❤❤😊
No thank you Patti cause your absolutely right, he is awesome, I was in the crowd in Boston when he did the live Album, you have excellent taste in music, kudos to you....
From the opening note of this gem I always have a lump in my throat. It feels like a picture of America in my mind. I'm 63, have seen my share of the greats in concert. Married at 18, still married to this day - (45 years) , and Bob Seger's tunes have always given me "that" feeling. FREE!!! Thanks Mr. Seger Tim
I'm 60,married at 23,divorced at 29,I gave it one go,it just didn't work out, nobody's fault, friendly split,2 children, one Girl, one Boy. And never tried marriage again. One and Done.
NO ONE has a voice like Bob Seger. He is one of my very favorite singers (& band). They take me back to my early days...70 years now and I'm still running against the wind... 😁
I am NOT falling for that reply whoever you are. I doubt Mr. Seger would send me this type of reply. I am 70 and thankfully my husband and two boys and two grandchildren work in IT and they are always giving me advice. "Don't reply to someone you know probably is not who they say they are"! Sorry...having a crabby day...must listen to "Like a Rock"....
Back in the 80’s, there was a movie called Reckless with Aiden Quinn and Daryl Hannah…at the end, he tells her he’s leaving on his bike and asks her to go with him. She pgets on the bike and as they ride away, this song plays as the credits roll. It was the first time I heard it. As a young man in my 20’s, it stirred some emotions, but they passed. I’ve heard it on occasion since then, and I crank up the volume when it plays. 3 years ago, I bought my first bike, a Harley Davidson. I hear the song now, and it’s like an anthem. Tells of a life worth living. Stirring stuff. I’ll be 60 next year, Bob Seger’s songs always take me back to my late teens. The soundtrack to a generation.
I'm really glad I'm not the only one when hearing this music finds themselves in refection over life love lost and friends and feelings retapped. Sometimes it hurts so horribly and most times brings a joy long lost in 61 years.
Hi John of all the songs that Bob seger ever sang I had never heard this one until around 2000, now figure I was riding bikes back in the 70s got married and divorced by mid 80s nback to bikes again and then thats when those Sony cassette players small ones turned up, I would make up a mix tape mostly stuff ti cruise or ride hard to and I would have the earphones in the helmet and off I would go I rode miles and miles listening to Bob,s music but never this one, also heard No Mans land another not known to me. Back when I would be off riding i would wear my leather trousers and smart bomber jacket, one stop some ladies wolf whistled me, now that gave me such a boost to my life, as after a marriage break up was what was needed, got my confidence back with people and ladies, yes Bob Seger thankyou for some of the most fab music ever
Absolutely John! I've owned bikes since '73 and love riding. I now own a Harley Road King and can't stay off of it. This song was great then and even more powerful to me now. "I took a bead on the northern plains and turned that power on" is a powerful line and gets me ready to ride. The song haunts me. I hear it when I'm riding and think of it when I'm not. I rode from Florida through the Carolinas, to Iowa, then to Wisconsin and them Michigan. Two weeks , 4700 miles. What a ride!
@John Gilbert... I'm 59 and I can find a tune with Lyric's that describe any given day. U are Sooo Right about The Soundtrack to the Baby Booming Generation for sure!!! 70's music will Live on Forever ✌️🖤🤘🤜🤛😎
Am now retired and can clearly relate with this song, have been riding since the mid 60's and know the freedom of swinging a leg over and DTH. My ex had just flew the coop while stationed in Rota Spain and took every dime and left the bills. Buddy and his wife took a couple of days off and took my son to Tormolinis and took the BMW R69 at the end of the week to meet them in "T" town. Took the back way, vice the coast road, and this came up on my walkman in a rather outstanding part of the road, and things just made sense. About a decade later retired from Navy and stumbled into a real queen of my heart. We still ride, this song has special meaning to me.
Hello Thanks for your comment and supports, your comments and constant support have brought me this far. Keep Supporting ❤️ Please send me a mail via. bobseger099@gmail.com
Saw Bob and the Silver Bullet band live in the old Summit arena (now a megachurch) in Houston in 1983. Featured Grand Funk Railroad drummer Don Brewer. This song (with Brewer’s booming drum sound) blew the roof off.
Michigan born and raised. At 65 this song resonates with so much of my life. Nothing compares to the heart and soul of Seger. He brings me back to a life that made sense, kind of. lol...
@gregnormal0 Yes, I have always enjoyed Seger's music and I met him at a concert at Pine Nob, in Michigan, through a friend that worked for him. Seger is very low key compared to his stage presence. There is no fakeness in his shows. :)
@BobSeger. As long as I can remember. lol...My Mom was a fan as well. Lots of fond memories attached to your music. I graduated in 1976 and this music was a big part of my HS years. It still is. :)
Yeah, seriously. An 18 wheeler semi, one of those bad boy rigs, would have been better than a rinky dink moped scooter for this song. Rather criminal imo
This song does something to me and I love it. 31 years old and sitting on the couch with my 1.5 year old daughter having a listen because it’s important she know Bob Seger 😆🙌🏼
My father's name was Sonny haberer. He was a 6 yr Vietnam vet and truck driver from Iowa. In 1981 I was born. I grew up to Bob Seger music and never knew what it meant. I just knew when he was home I woke up to the sounds I found annoying as a kid. At 43 now I get it. Sonny is long gone off this earth but I feel him here when I hear Bob Seger and now I took wake my son up to this glorious sound. Thank you dad for all that you instilled in me. I wish you could have seen the man I became. You live dead in me and the music plays on. I love you forever daddy. ~Terry~
Sonny did you right. All you must do is listen and your heart and soul is touched permanently. Only 1 Bob Seger…THE best artist storyteller musician ever. Plays numerous instruments…just absolutely amazing. Seen him 2x in concert and no one comes close and trust me, I’ve seen everyone you can think of…
The best damn song ever written, PERIOD!!! Every young man in the late 70's had a vision of getting on their bike and riding to see where the road takes them and the adventures that might follow. Rock on Mr Seger, Rock on!!
Too many young men today spend their their time turning donuts at intersections, causing mayhem....at 3a.m. then the guns begin until somebody gets hurt or worse. So sad & angry.....
Judy I miss my parents reel to reel.. I used to sneak downstairs at night and listen to Bob and Van Morrison I miss the greats.. I'm only 40 but wow 👏 😍
This is my #1 most favorite song ever. As a detroit kid, now adult. This song is it. Everytime he gets to " next time ill do it right" i still tear up. Probably the most underrated singer song writer, puts on a show in blue jeans and tigers shirt. Best band. No lasers or dancers, or other crap. Just a working class guy, his band and a stage. Truly an american classic and proud detroiter.
Bob Seger’s music is amazing. He is probably one of the most underrated classic rock stars. Some refer to him as a poor man’s Bruce Springsteen. Now I like Springsteen’s music, but nobody tells stories of individuality and wanderlust with a solid rock and roll beat like Seger. His heartland roots come through in every song he has written. Thanks for all the great music!
@@ramsayhofmeister I agree. I DON’T consider him a poor man’s Bruce Springsteen. I am just emphasizing the fact that Seger is wrongfully underrated by a lot of people. I will take Bob over Bruce any and every day!
Always listening to BOB SEGER .
His voice is so amazing!! Love that man !!!🌹

Bob Seger. Possibly the most underrated singer at least in the UK. Many brilliant songs including this one.
Nah. I loved his beautiful voice back then as much as I do now! Listening to him now makes me just as energize as back then!!❤❤
Not me, I’ve loved his music for as long as I can remember.

Me too 76 now & seems Bob's songs have more meaning to me now than when I was a younger fan !
"I too am lost, I feel double-crossed, and I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right". Best lyrics ever written.
Yes! I’ve seen Bob in concert 3 times. The 70’s , 80’s and 2019. He still kills it ,Voice is as strong as ever !! He rejuvenates me , if I’m having a bad day, earphones on , blarin Bob. His music still has the power to soothe the savage breast. Love Bob !
Sounds on par for the 2020s.....
@@MrDetroit1701 was just going to say, fits perfectly with the world today!
Still applies 😎
Along with "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then".
My best friend passed this past year, this was his song. We rode together for 40 years. So many miles and experiences.
Very Sorry for your loss Brother (MAY HE R.I.P and ride with the Angels)
I’m so sorry for your loss
I feel ya bro my only hope is that how I leave this
I leave this life it’s on my bike!!!
cheers to your good friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm 69 yrs. young in '23 and have been a hard rocker literally since age 6.
Ditto!!!
He is the greatest of all time.❤❤😊
I AM 82 AND I LOVE ALL HIS SONGS I HAVE HIS CD'S AND LISTEN TO HIM ALL THE TIME,LOVE HIM,
The beauty of Bob and his music is that he touches people from 22 to 82 and, I'm sure, beyond.
Hello 👋🏼 how's your day going so far?

KEEP ROCKIN BROTHER!!!!!!!!
Me too
If there was ever a rocker who could legitimately be called a bard, Bob Seger is it....such stories wrapped around such music....
There's that excellant piano again!
There are no words to describe how it makes me feel when I hear him sing. He takes me right back to those days of my youth.....thank you
No thank you Patti cause your absolutely right, he is awesome, I was in the crowd in Boston when he did the live Album, you have excellent taste in music, kudos to you....

From the opening note of this gem I always have a lump in my throat. It feels like a picture of America in my mind. I'm 63, have seen my share of the greats in concert. Married at 18, still married to this day - (45 years) , and Bob Seger's tunes have always given me "that" feeling. FREE!!! Thanks Mr. Seger Tim
Solid Comment, cheers!
Hello Dear, it’s nice meeting you on here

This man won the talent lottery.
Been listening to Bob Seger for 45 yrs.
He's my main man!!!
Love you Bob,Thanks for the memories. 🤗 xoxo
Hi Tamie 💐💐
Bob Seger's songs are timeless. He is a great song writer that tells a story about life. A literary giant.

Mine too
Saw him many years ago in the 80's in Denver. I love him! Thanks Bob for your music!❤

70's music will Live on Forever ✌️🖤🤘🤜🤛😎
another year goes by and i still know the words and song still gets me alive, keeps me alive, thx .
I sang this song at my mother's wake it was her favorite in a 74 gran torino. Bless you bob!!!!
Such a feel good song

Saw Bob and the Silver Bullet band live in the old Summit arena (now a megachurch) in Houston in 1983. Featured Grand Funk Railroad drummer Don Brewer. This song (with Brewer’s booming drum sound) blew the roof off.

Bob Seger is a national treasure.

Hi Sandra 💐💐
Bob Seger is his own thing! From the late 60's on through today. What an incredible musician, writer, producer.
This man is a great singer/songwriter/story teller, a unique performer 👏 👏
I am 75& still loving it 💕💕
My father's name was Sonny haberer.

Greatest rock and roll song ever written? Possibly.
Top 20 greatest rock and roll songs ever written? Absolutely.
Some voices are just instantly recognizable. Thank you, Bob Seger, for many years of great music.
His music is Rocking!!!!!!!!
❤😊mikey
This was Seger at the top of his game.....if you were lucky enough to have seen him live you got your moneys worth.....that's for sure.....
Walter Mameli He’s still at the top of his game 🥰 just saw him in Nashville a couple of years ago , never disappoints 🥰🥰🥰
I saw him on his final tour this past summer and I am not lying when I say I cried at the end lol
@@peggyanderson8832 You are correct about him being at the top of his game still.....Seger is American Rock Royalty.....
I saw him last year. I got my money's worth too. I was exhausted when the show was over.
I saw him for the first time in 2019 on his farewell tour. He was still at the top of his game.

Wow. Probably my favorite Seger song. Appreciate it even more now. Would’ve had loved to be that girl who rode on the back of his bike😊
Love this song and the story
This is my #1 most favorite song ever. As a detroit kid, now adult. This song is it. Everytime he gets to " next time ill do it right" i still tear up. Probably the most underrated singer song writer, puts on a show in blue jeans and tigers shirt. Best band. No lasers or dancers, or other crap. Just a working class guy, his band and a stage. Truly an american classic and proud detroiter.
He could sure rock Cobo Hall❤

Bob Seger’s music is amazing. He is probably one of the most underrated classic rock stars. Some refer to him as a poor man’s Bruce Springsteen. Now I like Springsteen’s music, but nobody tells stories of individuality and wanderlust with a solid rock and roll beat like Seger. His heartland roots come through in every song he has written. Thanks for all the great music!
Nailed it.
Are you kidding? Bruce has nothing on Bob!!!!!!°
@@ramsayhofmeister I agree. I DON’T consider him a poor man’s Bruce Springsteen. I am just emphasizing the fact that Seger is wrongfully underrated by a lot of people. I will take Bob over Bruce any and every day!
Such a great song
We Detroiters have long considered this to be his best song. My older brothers saw him perform in a high school back in the 1970s.
