  • There is a known defect with many modern GE Washing Machines like the one in the video. I want to show you the "Factory Fix" for this issue, but also go over a few other related common concerns for this style washing machine. The problem that's noted is that if the washer works and does drain water, but acts very strange when doing so, or when the washing machine spins the clothes at the end of the cycle, but does not fully spin the clothes out - both situations are hallmarks of this specific pressure port failure.

After watching like 20 videos and replacing the speed sensor with no results I found this video. My issue was the washer agitating, draining but not spinning. It would just shut off at the spinning part of the wash cycle. After following your instructions I was able to clear the tube and reassemble and it worked! Thank you for the help. Saved me from an expensive repair bill or even worse having to buy a new one.

You are a hero! Mine was a different model with a much easier to access connector. It had a little 2" water collection part where the tube attached to. The place where the tube connects was clear, but apparently the part on the inside was clogged. After blowing some air through there, it cleared and we are back in business!
The original symptom was that it wouldn't spin! Then it started going in drain only mode. So not obvious!
Anyway, thanks a million! Saved me buying a new washer this weekend!

My GE top load washer was doing the same thing.
On a any load size, It would dispense some water and just stop, nothing. I saw your video and followed you instructions. The only thing I did different was, I blow into the tube from the top while still attached to the bottom and since I still had water in the tank I could see the air bubbles come out. So, maybe that cleared. I put everything back together and the washer machine worked. 🤔
So thank you for your video!

I have a basic GE washer that is about 12yrs old. It recently stopped agitating and spinning with a load and smells like something is burning. The belt is good on it and I tried the reset motor code process. Technician was going to come out today to look at it. He called before to get more info. He told me most likely motor or transmission. He said those are known to develop small oil leaks, which cause belt slip. Told me I was better off to get new washer, since it would cost so much to fix. What are your thoughts on this?

Ehh. brand new GE from Wayfair and it was not spinning out enough water. I couldnt get a 1/8 inch drill bit to twist in there, but I got a slightly smaller precision flathead that snugly fit the opening, and there was an obstruction as you describe. I got a smaller-than-1/8 drill bit and used it as a reamer, filing the edges at the end of that channel. I had a 1/8 inch end mill bit with which I was able to ream the passage out, but the business end of that wasn't long enough to reach the flashing area. Still can't get the 1/8 bit in and twist it freely but I knocked the obstruction out in any case. We will see if that does it!
A note: If you are unsure how far back you can go, get a smaller something that will fit past the blockage and you can "feel" where the wall of the tub is.
UPDATE: It didnt help, the clothes are still far too wet, too much water left in there. SMH. Not sure whats up with this one.

Mine makes a grinding noise and all the grease has dumped out of the transmission. Has the same symptoms & does5 spin out the clothes. Appliance repair store said the transmission had failed & said it was a common issue on these. I actually have a second one with the exact same symptoms and problem but has oil all over the engine and transmission belt cover. Not spinning out all the clothes. Wondering if it could be this or the transmission. Going to try your solution first I guess. I assume you're not having the grinding noises?

I have this card t washer. I’ve added a new belt, new drain pump, and done what you suggested in this video. I still have the same issue. It will wash and spin and gets up to speed but It seems like it might not be spinning long enough. The clothes are still wet after spinning. Not wringing wet but wetter than they should be. Could it possible be lid lock? I’ve made sure level and clothes are spread and Balanced all that good stuff. Again it gets up to spinning fast but just seems like it should spin at that speed for a longer time. Washer is only three years old. 🤦🏼‍♂️. Our last one was 17 years old.

Had intermittent drainage issues where it sometimes wouldn't drain now it seems like the pump wont run at all so I think I'll check the pump first then that hose line. But man is it aggravating how difficult it is to troubleshoot or access the washer for repair. I swear they made it as difficult as possible. My old washer had multiple removable panels this seems to have none. Also there were zero error codes or trouble shooting help, just a washer full of water. Frankly after this experience I never want to buy a GE appliance again but no idea if there are even any alternatives any more.

I had this issue forever and I kept having to remove the clothes to get it to spin and complete the cycle so I could use drain and spin. Then it stopped draining the water all together. We access our GE washer through the bottom by tipping it on its side. We took apart the drain pump and cleaned it out, reassembled it and now it works. I don't think it was completely draining which made it out of balance causing the spin light to flash.

I've replaced the motor (with a used one) as well as the belt and start capacitor, and mine will only spin if i reach in and forcibly spin it at the start of the spin cycle ..I guess it's totally possible the used motor just has the same problem but I'm hoping it means I just haven't identified the real issue.

I would put it in troubleshoot mode (technical spec sheet is taped in a plastic bag to the metal cabinet, from the inside), and try the drain and spin cycles, within troubleshooting mode. I did this with my washing machine, and discovered that the drain water pump was seized with a piece of what looked like a thread of dental floss. I wrestled with the drain water pump, until it released the entire length of the floss, and re-installed it. It worked again.
Oh, and this particular drain water pump really isn’t serviceable, and it had some Chinese text, and branding, that didn’t look like it had anything to do with GE. (well, at least that’s how I saw it). It’s sealed shut, and the impeller is difficult to pull off, and I didn’t try to pull it off after 3 tries.
You can’t open the stupid pump, but yet, a thread of dental floss was able to get caught by the impeller, or shaft, and make its way into the inside of the “sealed” motor housing???!!! Unbelievable!!!!

When i was a teenager working at w shop that refurbed pc Richards stuff they were supposed to junk afte they did delivery for new equipment. Picked up perfectly good, but dirty old appliances for almost nothing. $10-20, 50 if it was special or almost new. We're getting ripped off by these companies. Can get an entire motherboard for a gaming computer with way more tech than what's in a washing machine shit even a whole computer for the cost of a circuit board on a washer or fridge. They're not even smart either, not usually. They just silicone the damn things in so you can't pull them out the cases they're fixed into. Kinda fucked up. . That shit should be illegal

@callbackdons That's going to be either your clutch and/or your timer. A good way to test to see if it's the clutch is to let it reach full speed and see if you can safely stop the tub with your hand and a rag. Try this on normal or heavy duty mode, as delicates and casual modes spin at a lower speed.
