- Top Load Washing Machine won't Drain or Spin? In many cases this repair can be made in 5 minutes and I will show you how to do it with only a Philips screw driver and a zip tie. This is a very common problem with Whirlpool, Kenmore, Roper, Maytag and other top load Washing Machines. This machine is a Whirlpool. The washer will fill and agitate the clothes but will not drain or spin. The most common reason for this problem is that the Lid Switch on the Washer has gone bad and needs to be repaired of replaced. Switches can go bad because the glue that holds the plastic switch cover weakens and the cover splits apart causing the switch not to engage.
In many cases you can do this easy switch repair... and you will be up and running in no time for little to no money!

Amazing. This fix took five minutes and was exactly the problem. I thought it might be the switch so I searched here and your video walked thru the fix perfectly. Love the zip tie solution. Super easy and right on the money. Before I watched the video I thought I might need to by pass the switch. This zip tie fix was way better.

This was a lifesaver for me. This happened and thought I was going to be forced to by a new washer. My Kenmore washer and dryer was handed down to me by my parents years ago and is 24 years old and still kicking. They don't make them like this anymore so thankful to your video to help me fix it.

That worked very well. The screws that attached the switch went through the plastic switch housing and both had broken out. Super glue and the suggested zip tie seemed to have fixed the problem. Thank you!

I too was relieved you shared the zip-tie hack. I did grab the number from the switch for my 90’s series (ex 3949238) and ordered it for later. I bet the zip tie holds for a while though.
Thank you so much! In my case.. the plastic piece on the switch had broken and it was dangling. So I JB welded a plastic sleeve onto the switch and screwed it back in. Is now working fine.
