Staying well year round is challenging but with a little self care and balance - it's possible!

Today's 50 minute Yin Yoga practice was a request to help build and/or rebuild your immune system. We focus on 4 main meridian lines - Liver, Lungs, Spleen and Large Intestines - to bring balance, remove blockages and keep the energy running cleanly through these areas to help boost immunity.
The Liver releases chemicals to ward off attacks, the Spleen stores our white blood cells, the Lungs are our first line of defense from attack and the Large Intestines are our last line of defense! Join me in boosting immunity and bringing overall balance to these meridians.

I've never tried yin yoga before; vinyasa and power are my usual styles. However, this week I've been feeling under the weather, so my body didn't feel strong enough for more vigorous practices. This was challenging in a different way; staying in the poses for more than a minute was new for me, but the long durations allowed me to really explore and open into the postures. Thank you for this.

My immune system is shot and my kids always give me their colds so I am hoping I conquer this cold that I currently have. I also have been eating a lot of garlic which is supposedly good for the immune system. I feel really relaxed after this class!!! Im happy :)
I hope you are feeling better Danielle!? Have you tried probiotics (a low daily dose like 5-10 million units)? I found that a daily support helped me ward off the colds and flu my kids often bring home. Take care and I wish you health and healing!

This is one of my favorites, thank you so much. Its so helpful after a panic attack. The inner thigh release helps loosen my legs which were tight from fearful and angry memories where I felt trapped and couldnt fight or run away like I wanted, thread the needle helps me relax my lungs and throat which helps to cry, deer pose is grounding and draws all the energy in my head from overthinking myself into a tension headache back down to my pelvis and stabilizes me, pigeon pose helps purge some anger and fear I had pent up, the lunge helps me feel strong and empowered again as I try to balance, and the recline twists at the end are calming. I love how long you hold the poses too. I need a while to acclimate to my feelings and body sensations. Youre so slow and gentle and its really helping my CPTSD

Thanks again for a beautiful class. I really enjoyed the drapon pose since I have been lately concentrating on my upper back and shoulders. I admit I was struggling through this pose but survived. I will contnue to do your classes regularly. I am still digging in my garden since there is no snow here yet in Canada. Your yin yoga classes are great for people who love working in the garden.

I came back to this one today. It is a wonderful practice. I really need to do more yin yoga, it is so healing. This one is especially good for the way I am feeling today. Namaste April today this long practice makes me calm and happy as with this covid 19 we need to booste or immune system it was perfect. For me the deer pose it s not my favourite because i have inflamation on my both hips, but i did it with props it was ok. I notice a lot of poses are on knees poor knees they are so much engage on dragon poses i should put a cushion it was ok too.

Definitely use some cushions under the knees for Dragon poses and anytime you are on your knees and I love that you are using props for Deer pose. You can support each side with sofa cushions or pillows to keep them from going too deep. Thank you for joining me! Namaste, Aprille
My first practice with you - day 7 into a cold. This definitely was a nice stretch out for me. I enjoyed listening to you, and will definitely be back! Yin Yoga is my fave - especially since I started getting chronic Vestibular Migraines back in December 2017. I have troubles doing flows and even downward dogs still (it triggers my "dizziness"), and appreciate the stretching for my sore atrophied muscles.

Thanks for another great class! Request: something for stretching and strengthening arms, shoulders, wrists and hands for musicians. I found the heart melting pose quite a struggle.
Good morning Kathy! Melting Heart Pose is one a deep shoulder and chest opener (on that I would recommend for a lot of people) but it can be difficult at first. You can start with a 1/2 version of it (one arm bent under your forehead and the other outstretched and work with that for a while. I do have a couple of practices that will help with shoulders, wrists and hands:
bit.ly/YinAM4ShoulderMobility I would do this at least once a week to deepen shoulder mobility and fully stretch this area. I find myself doing this VERY often as I have a lot of tightness in my shoulders. It has provided incredible relief and amazing mobility.

I get that - I find sometimes that by the time I reach savasana...I am SO happy to be there and just stay for awhile. The good news - if it's uncomfortable, you are probably really working with your edge and building mobility and connective tissue strength. Have a great day!

I have a rather weak immune systems and this practice had those asanas that are the most unpleasant to do. Just as well, medicine is most effective when it tastes baaaad :) Balancing at the border of ow and ahh seems to be the thing... but I feel great afterwards!
Definitely take it easy on yourself and do what you can for the length of time that feels right for you and use whatever props that might help. Hi Aprille. I notice that you and other yoga teachers tend to use wide knee child pose as a short rebound pose, but not often as a longer held yin pose in its own right. Is this because it is less beneficial to hold this pose for longer, or just that other poses just have more theraputic value in sessions?
Hello Rachel. Child's pose serves as a great rebound for almost any pose so is often used in that way but I do use it for extended holds in several practices as well. If I use it for multiple rebounds, my feeling is the effect is there so don't put in another extended version as well. Both are effective and I personally LOVE a very extended child's pose for my own practice too. Thanks for joining me! Peace, Aprille

Aprille, following this my legs and arms feel so numb, to the point of near-paralysis in some position (my left leg). Am I doing too much for my body or does it mean what I'm doing is taking its effect? Thank you always.
You might need to back off, use props and reduce the depth of your pose. Tingling and numbness are signs of nerves being harmed. Maybe try going only to 50% of your Max depth and even holding for less time.
