Thank you so much for this video, I just installed a tailgate camera this morning following your instructions, if I hadn't had your help I really would have struggled! Worst part of the install was fishing the camera wire through the tailgate- you did make that trick look a lot easier than my experience turned out to be! I also watched the '10 Silverado stereo install video you did and found that extremely helpful as well, from pulling the dash out, to ordering the OnStar / SWC preservation unit that would work with the new head unit. My beloved "Trash Truck" never sounded so good! I can't believe how much good info you cram into these short videos, so clear and concise, you have real talent for teaching, thanks for sharing your gift!
Nice job! My rear view camera on my 2012 Silverado failed recently. This was very useful in showing me how to access the system components to diagnose and repair,
Nice install & explanation! At 12:38, you can see that the image (trailer hitch) is off center, due to camera being mounted off center. Is there any way to adjust this?
Very informative vid. Much appreciated for taking the time. My question is, if I use the reverse taillight wires, to power the camera, would I have to tap the other red wire behind the radio unit to the switch wire? Thank you again
love it, just realized i have the wrong swc controls in my truck. might have to get the crux 61n for my tacoma instead of the metra aswc-1. cause i want to put my back up cam in my jvc radio and the latter has the better harness to do both, unless theres a easier way
You’re awesome… I’m looking to have my backup camera on 2022 Silverado 1500 operate and point in the right direction while tailgate is down. Any solutions , thanks in advance
Do I have to have the fuse on the power line when I am connected to the reverse light at the brake light itself? The tech at Best Buy cut mine off and I think it is the reason why my camera will not work at all sometimes and why it works intermittently. Would the lack of a fuse be the reason for the above issues I described of the camera not working? Thanks in advance for your help
I have a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD Diesel and am looking for a Front&Rear Camera system that mounts in the T-Gate Handle as you have shown that records video and 10 seconds before and after a colision auto records and stores video file to a folder and possibly bluetooth compatible to a phone! I prefer to use an Alpine Head Unit if possible do they make a sytem like tis and if so can you tell me part/shu # here and if not what system(s) out there will do closest to what I want? Thanks in advance for your help!
Very good video! All the information you share well well needed appreciate it. One question thought what radios would work for this camera been having trouble trying to see which one would this backup camera would hookup into. Also what was that receiver behind the radio?
I can’t see my camera picture unless I tap on the “rear camera “ icon on my Sony XAV-68bt head unit. I’ve followed this tutorial, I tapped into the green wire out of the 3 going to my reverse light, I have two blacks and a green just like shown in the video. Is there a chance I tapped into the wrong wire ? Or does my head unit require me to tap the icon on screen in order to see the picture ? Was really hoping it would just come up on its own when I shift into reverse :/
May I also add I have a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 so it’s even within the same year models as the truck in the video. Having a hard time any help would be greatly appreciated !
My guess is I tapped into a running light wire instead of the reverse light trigger wire, I scrapped the project for the time being, just left the handle in and cut all wires off of it. Lol I did the same wire as shown in this video, with the same year model truck. Will go at it again soon when I buy a new kit
@@dylanhardesty9588 i got the same truck having the same problem 😭 although i really only use it when i back up to trailers so it ain’t bothering me too much

Wow, you so read my mind. I was screaming grommet, and you showed me you knew better. And I learned about a new sealing product

Can it be hooked up with any aftermarket radio?
11:53 Is the maestro RR necessary to splice the power wire into the head unit?
