    1. What is the use of those red wires sticking out of the RCA lines? When do they need to be connected?
    2. Also my aftermarket stereo back doesn't have anything that says 'Camera' or 'video in'. But I was told by the manufacturer it supports backup camera. Also they don't reply which one is for RCA input. Is CCD AV IN is the video input? Thanks

    Great video, very helpful. Thankyou. One question, does it matter which end of the video cable goes to camera? I know theres a tiny little wire attached to it at one end and it must remain attached if you want to keep the parking guide lines. I accidentally installed the end with the little wire to my head unit and really didnt want to have to pull my wire back out and have to switch it around. I would think it wouldnt matter as long as it is attached....right?

    My Kenwood Navigation head unit has an additional "Reversing" wire in addition to the CAM RCA yellow input connector. Does this wire attach to the red wire you cut off that runs along side of the RCA cable then attach to the reverse light along with the red power wire?

  • @MrJfred78
    @MrJfred78 2 роки тому +36

    Do not cut the red wire! If you cut that red wire you will have to manually put the stereo in camera mode to see the back up camera. If you hook up one end of the red wire to the reverse tail light and the other end to the back up camera input on the stereo, then the stereo will automatically display the back up camera when you put the car in reverse.

      Depends on the application..
      I’ve done this many times now.. one 2012 traverse I only needed to use the red on the camera side as the trigger from the reverse light..
      the next vehicle was the same exact radio and camera.. 2006 Altima.. however I had to wire the one red to the trigger off the radio, the other to the reverse lights and use the secondary trigger Jack and also wire that red to the reverse lights and use the ground as well..
      After that then I had to use the double trigger and radio power but if I grounded the secondary trigger it wouldn’t work..
      To make a long story short and not list 20 different applications.. even with the reacts same radio and camera every single application and way to wire it is different..

      That’s incorrect. Watch the whole video and he shows you how it works appropriately. The red wire gives you the option of getting the power from the head unit. Not all head units are the same.

      @@NCalebWard Hi Caleb, I just rewatched the video and I can see how someone could misunderstand what's happening. The stereo has already been manually set to the rear camera display before the poster began recording. That's why the display reads no signal. I just did a little scrolling through the comments and looks like davidroland441 found that his stereo wasn't switching to to the camera when he put it in reverse, Jumper Man (the op) replied to say that he has to manually put his stereo in rear camera mode and that maybe he shouldn't have cut the red wires. I installed a Boss stereo similar to this one on a Ford van like this one and found that I had to connect the red wires from the rca cable for the reverse trigger to work. I was sure glad I didn't cut the wires and just wanted to save someone from making that mistake. Better to have them and not need them then need them and not have them!

      On most vehicles both are hot, there's not a positive or negative. The bulb is grounded in its housing, or isn't grounded. Because cars use DC for lighting, one wire has power coming in to the bulb and one has power going out. But both have power.

      well that doesnt make any sense. This guy did it without them. If you connect your reverse light switch leg to the reverse + coming from the stereo, then the deck now knows when to turn on reverse screen and if you connect the camera to reverse switch leg it now gets powered up meaning the 2 red short wires are useless. the only way those 2 wires would be of use is if possibly you do not have a reverse + coming from the back of your deck, which doesnt make any sense either.

      It actually depends on the stereo. If you don’t connect the red wire to the reverse wire on the harness, it won’t sense the car going in reverse. The stereo that he’s using doesn’t need it, because it senses the video through the yellow rca, and that’s by design of the manufacturer

      Gucci is wrong. It's still needs the signal wire. I have the same radio. If you don't connect the short red signal wire on the camera end to power and the radio end to the reverse in wire (purple) there's no way for the radio to automatically sense it. In the video he has the camera up on screen already with no source, until he puts it in reverse.

      @davidelliott8324 2 роки тому

      @@madmicky4088 it's been over a year since I did it myself, but let's see if I can explain it. The red signal wire on the camera end needs to be hardwired to your vehicle's reverse light wire. On the radio end, the short red wire needs to be connected to the purple " reverse in" wire that goes into the boss radio. Basically the little red wires create a straight line from the reverse light power wire to the radios purple wire.That way you're making a circuit from your white backup light to the radio that automatically connects when you put the vehicle in reverse. The radio will automatically show the camera feed on screen over any other function automatically as long as the vehicle is in reverse. Hope this helps you picture what you need to do.

    • @davidelliott8324
      @davidelliott8324 2 роки тому

      To use the camera as a dedicated back-up camera, you need to connect the camera end red wire to the reverse light and the radio end red wire to the purple radio harness wire. Imagine they red wire runs straight as one long red wire all the way from the reverse light to the purple wire on the radio. Then the camera only gets power and turns on in reverse, because the white reverse light only turns on in reverse. And the radio is designed to show that purple wire source at all times when it is getting power.

      I have to click the camera mode and when I put my car in reverse, the camera gets energized. Most people just put their cars in reverse and it goes straight to camera mode without having to manually be in camera mode. There was 2 red wires if I remember correct that I wasnt sure what to do with them. Those wires might be what overrides everything but I'm not sure. It might just be this cheap BOSS audio equipment haha thanks for watching!

      @JumpermanTech  3 роки тому +1

      There should be but I'm not exactly sure how. When you put the car in reverse then it should automatically come up. Might be there setup or something to do with those 2 wires I taped off that were for the camera screen

    • @shakeydavesr
      @shakeydavesr 2 роки тому

      I replied to another question about the same thing.
      Tapping into the reverse light is the initial trigger and turns on the power to the camera.
      Then the “purple” or whatever colored wire from the HU is to trigger the HU that the vehicle is in reverse and should therefore turning on the screen so you can see so you can then make an informed choice as to weather you want to proceed with caution or wreck-less abandon,,,,,,lol
      But aside from the joking, doe what I’m saying make sense?
      I mean, why else would there be a wire (violet & white in this case) coming out of the head unit?
      It’s like the white & green coming out for the paring brake, it is to prevent the video player from working while the car is in motion.
      Unless of course you’re into burning up your rear brakes trying to be the newest member of The Fast & Furious,,,,,,lol

    This is only half correct. He is wrong about the other two red wires at either end of the rca jack cable. the one at the stereo needs to splice to the reverse light wire coming out the back of the stereo and the one at the camera end needs to also splice to the red (load) wire of the reverse light. If you only do it his way the camera won't come on when youre using android auto or apple or if you're in any screen other than the boss home screen. The red on the rca jacks doesn't supply power to the camera or stereo but the presence of current on that wire does make the stereo screen switch from whatever app or music or whatever to the reverse camera.

    Look man no hate at all. I thumbed up your video however these instructions are completely wrong. The camera should always be energized through the wiring and not just when in reverse. You do need to tap in separately for that but to my understanding not on the camera end but on the head unit end to trigger the camera hence why they generally have you do it somewhere near your shifter. While your method works fine to have it be energized while it reverse hence working while in reverse it will never activate like a regular back up camera. For the third time while I have had time I'm tackling the issue again and I will update other curious people on how this should be wired up to activate when in reverse.

    Jumper man, you really should delete this video and make a new one. The way you show to hook up the backup camera is not correct. When done correctly the backup camera comes on when you put the car in reverse, the same way all factory installed backup cameras work. You do not have to go into a menu on the touch screen to turn on the camera. Those two red wires are an essential part of the design to make the camera work when the car is in reverse. Your other video is OK, but that is for a backup camera that is not part of an infotainment system, and you can use it whether you are going backward or forward.

    That's a really terrible video from someone who has obviously no idea about the topic! Don't tell people to cut essential cables just because you didn't understand what they are doing and why they are there. That's really bad! To your information, the red cables you were cutting are for the radios reverse trigger input. Ever wondered why your radio never switches to the backup camera automatically when engaging the reverse gear!? That's because you cut those cables! When wired correctly, those cables tell you head unit that the reverse gear is in and that your head unit should switch to the reverse cam. You even pretended everything works by manually going into the rearview video feed submenu. That's just misleading your audience fooling them into believing your head unit is actually switching automatically. Well that's not the case as you are already in the submenu and the head unit just shows the video feed once the camera is powered. I wonder how many people screwed this up because of you! I was almost one of them but luckily checked out how to do this correctly! Please delete/redo this terrible video...
