Thanks Guys! I installed it today May 31, 2024. Took a bit of effort to get connection off but got it following your instructions. When pulling the cable though, there was a cable support a little above the connection, I used a flat screw driver to pop it out and then side cutters to cut it loose from the cable. What an improvement, sharp and clear image. The wide angle view will take a bit to get familiar with. Highly recommend this product. Installed in my 2015 Silverado LT.
Great job guys! Informative step by step video with zero jib-jab. I'm replacing the back-up camera on my 2014 GMC Sierra Texas Edition. Many Thanks, Brother.
Great option. Just picked up a 2014 Silverado for my daughter. Not impressed at all with the camera. I’ll replace with this camera and probably a Wolfbox rear view & front view mirror camera. A little redundant but it also records. I wonder how this new camera would look on an upgraded head unit. Maybe I’ll find out. Thanks for the vid
I bet it would look better on a better head unit, but it's still a lower end camera due to the way they wired this thing to the truck. You'd have to run an entire new cable to get an HD quality image.
I bought the 14.4 inch Tesla style screen for my ‘15 sierra denali and the picture quality is substantially worse. But also just looked at my lens the other day and it had these oil slick looking spots on the inside of the plastic lens. So that’s probably why. About to order a new one as we speak after watching this video lol
I just bought a 2020 Silverado LT 1500 and have to agree that the camera supplied is pitiful. Being that this truck is not a high level edition, it only has the one view camera. I can put up with it in the daylight, but at night the camera is absolutely useless! I'm surprised these cameras were never recalled because of how bad they are at night. Fortunately, I'm very good at using my mirrors, but I paid for a backup camera and it still would help eliminate blindspots. I asked the Chevy Dealer if I could get the camera replaced with one of the newest ones and they said not possible. When I've checked for aftermarket cameras, they were running wires all the way up front into the cab and even replacing the cable going for the Sharkfin antenna too! I wasn't able to find a excellent camera only replacement like you. I still believe that the night time issues alone should have warranted a safety recall.
Agree with you 100%! It's a terrible camera. This newer camera is definitely way better that the OEM, but still not near as good as it could be. You're right the only way to fix that issue is to run a new, high quality camera all the way to the dash and an aftermarket stereo head unit. Lot of time and money for a simple backup camera.
Getting ready to upgrade mine. I got a new radio, and the Car Toyz store who installed it told me that it was going to cost me another $600 for them to install an HD camera, and that they were going to have to run a whole new line, and that it wasn't just a plug and play like. That's just criminal! I knew that it had to be simple like that. I just knew it. It only makes sense.
A direct replacement camera is currently limited by type of cable Chevy used. While you'll get a much better image quality than oem with this replacement, it's definitely NOT a crips HD. For that to happen they are correct you'd have to run an entire new line from the back of your tailgate to behind your radio head unit. It's not a huge job but it's still a pain. Definitely something to consider. That said we are very happy the the results of this camera swap and have no intention of running a whole new cable. Hope all goes well for you!
Well shit, just figured my truck was old. I just bought a 2104 1500 LTZ. Had to replace the trailer brake control unit already, I guess the camera is next on the list.
You could save yourself a lot of time by simply removing the two screws holding the cable assembly to the camera and plug the old cable into the new camera, rather then trying to unplug it underneath the truck and pulling the cable through the tailgate. I did mine in less than five minutes that way and didn’t have to get under the truck at all.
Thanks Guys!

I am struggling getting old connection off.
Is there a tab to depress?

I have a 2018 Silverado and the camera is great. Looks like I am watching a tv screen.
Thank you man was just looking to do this.
Happy to help!
Does the aftermarket camera still turns along the steering wheel while reversing?
No change in functionality, just better image quality.
@@honestreviewsandhowtos Perfect 👌🏽 thanks

Great video, going to replace my camera on 17 silverado.
Thanks. Hope it goes well for you!
Is it any better at all at night?
It's much better than the one we had. Still not near as good as it should be though. they really dropped the ball on these model trucks.

Great tip. We wanted to show folks how to replace the whole thing. If your camera model supports this it's not a bad idea at all. Thanks for sharing.
Lol😂
Does my screen on the dash need to be upgraded from the smaller one to make this work?
This replaces an existing camera. If you already have one, yes this will work with your system.
Thank you!
you're welcome!
I did it!! Thanks
