When I was a kid I watched soul train just because of the cartoon train... needed to get my cartoon fix on those boring Sunday mornings.. but doing so planted some seeds that have never gone away.
This sounds like it's a step higher than the studio recording. I wonder if they were still playing around with it at this point and hadn't yet settled on what the final key would be.
Yeah. More like half a step, though. I would bet it's due to some VHS rip or something. Because from looking at the freatboards, they seem to be playing it in the original key of G. Also, it would be a bit weird for the sax and especially for the harmonica to be playing an odd key like G#.
@@PedroPetracco you’re probably right. An ageing tape can distort due to minor changes in temperature over time and can sound as if it’s in the wrong key. Little Walter recorded Duke on an A harmonica in second position in the key of E, but you can’t play along to it on an A harmonica very well because the recording has degraded over the years and doesn’t sound like it’s in E anymore.
Either this video is sped up or a different video on youtube is slowed down but if you search, there's another video of this same performance that is much slower than this.
Tons of cowbells sitting there and nobody playing them for the most classic song with a cowbell???????? the lowrider band and war are just as bad live.. Eric burdon has destroyed House of the rising Sun can't sing a song live either!!!!!! Save your money and just listen to the records you will be disappointed when you hear them live that's too bad....
Slippery smooth and in the groove just like banana puddin'.
Baddest funk band.harold brown puts in the work on those drums!
My dad did a warm up act for war once and they invited him and his band up on stage to play this song with them

was that the late Charles Miller singin'? The key sounds off
Awesome,!🙌
Hi Eric, thanks.
this is a great example of how a producer/engineer creates a sound. He was not present on this day to turn the knobs.
