I grew up listening to Eric Burdon and the Animals in 1964 with House of the Rising Sun and liked his vocals and of course the organ (I am an organ player) and then when Eric Burdon declares War came out it showed me his eclectic stylings and roots and creativity. In 1982 I toured with Eric for the year and did some recording but I never saw him do the same show twice - always creative. But that period with War I liked more. Eric never felt he was the band leader, only a member and musician in the band and guided and suggested rather than dictating and he always worked on direction with the keyboardists - Alan Price, Dave Rowberry, Zoot Money, Lonnie Jordan, Brian Auger and others and I was lucky enough to work with him in 1982 and 2006-2016. In 1982 we played at the Roxy and Lonnie came to the show - we went to the after party at a friend of Eric's house and Lonnie and I played 4 hands for several hours on an old square grand piano. I had not seen a lot of the videos of the band Eric & War had together but thanks to the internet and UA-cam I can finally see not just hear the collaborations. It's very refreshing knowing what was inside Eric back then and what I heard in the years before and after I played with him. Inspiring...

In 1982 Lonnie Jordan and I played 4 hand piano at a party after I played at the Roxy in LA with Eric. Did 4 albums with Joan plus 3 years of touring. I worked with Cher on a TV special (and of course with Sonny on the road) and Dolly was a special guest. I was fortunate enough to see Eric Burdon at the Arena in Vienna in 1976 or so. Some time before the gig he was sitting alone in the sun enjoying a drink - still overwhelmed by the encounter - yes, I was a fangirl :o) - I finally "dared" to ask him for an autograph on the backside of a tram ticket (I didn't have anything else), which he gladly gave me. I still cherish it to this day!

I'm not sure but in some venues dancing was actually not allowed due to the small size of the space, something about fire codes etc at the time, maybe that was the case here
Forgot about your Birthday Eric, 80 years old my man, so happy birthday. I first heard House of the Rising Sun and I new you were the man. From Animals to Eric Burden and the Animals,War and all of your solo work.Best of the British invasion.
When I was getting ready to go to war in Vietnam in 1964 it was the British Invasion and the Beatles and Rolling Stones were the most 'Popular' bands at the time, and I dug what they were doing BUT Eric Burdon and the Animals were of another level that appealed to my 19 year old soul and nothing has changed. Eric Burdon is still the BEST :)

WAR with ERIC BURDON playing live in the early seventies...can this ever go wrong? Seriously, this is something EVERYBODY should watch to fully understand the degree music has fallen into these days!
Mats Nilsson : You are so right Mats, sucks that these day's you never see a multi racial band that creates such great music, WAR w/ Eric Burdon belong in The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!!
plenty of great music around these days, if you're not too lazy to find it and seek it out. the record companies are dead. that's the difference. it's not all controlled by old men in suits any more. deal with it, and support your local scene rather than complaining.
@@mj.l There's nothing like this around anymore or if there is they're playing the oldie circuit. This was top 40 music in 1970, all you had to do was turn on the radio in 1970 and just about every song was great in some way or other, I'm not saying you liked everything you heard but it was almost all quality music and played by all humans not computers nd no pitch correcter back then.
Arguably the greatest jam band ever! The improv showed the commonality and talent of all on the stage. What they did with this was set the stage for other great bands like Zep, Skynard, Allman Bros, the Dead and others that pulled off great musical improv live in front of the audience. Eric Burdon knew what he was doing when he put together WAR... all very talented but no virtuoso/standouts that could hog the spotlight... no, this was all about the music; greater than any individual musician. That ability to create music on the spot, live... that's an artform if you do it right. Growing up, WAR was one of my greatest influences (them, Zep and Allman's)... the "art of the improv" came from Jazz and Blues and when done right, in Rock and Roll, becomes something of beauty, energy and admiration... THANK YOU @Eric Burdon Tribute Channel 11 for this awesome rare vid... you make my life more complete!

I never heard of eric i was listening to the dead and it Popped up. A voice said bet thats fire. And here i am!!!! Listeningon my bose alone here i am.
It's a shame these guys didn't get the same longterm recognition as bands like Santana, but man am I glad I found these collaborations
I saw War, w/o Eric Burdon, Summer of '76- they opened the Doobie Bros. Opening song -"Why can't we be Friends?" They were fantastic, as were the Doobies, 1st song of their set was... "Jesus is just Alright". It was a special time - I was privledged to be there! So much spirit of LOVE & Unity ❤️
I saw War about 20 years ago at the Liberty Lunch, Austin, Texas. They played all of the old hits and jammed on them. Played for 2 hours easy. Memorable show.

Bonsoir depuis Paris ( France ).
Eric Burden always brings it with the cowbell.
Greetings from Oregon. One of the hardest working bands ever. Thanks. Inspirational.
Love you Eric. Keep the spirit of the music. Maybe someday people will find a way to get together again. I sure hope so.
I feel like everyone needs to take a moment to appreciate Harold Ray Brown...everyone took a break in the song except him. The man's arms had to be burning banging on the skins non-stop for thirty minutes straight! What a great song, great band and what a gnarly drummer!
Who's the big guy playing percussion? I'm pretty sure he was also in Exuma's band.
@@silverspaceflyer Papa Dee Allen. He was a basketball player (hence, his size) and a percussionist. As far as I can tell, War was his only big claim to fame. He did, however, also play saxophone.

Nobody ever since Eric Burdon & WAR reached this intense level of spoul and spirit and rock!
He was born for THIS
Awesome ❣️
Praise the Lord for giving you a powerful voice and talented musicians with so much passion to touch the hearts deeply.
God bless you all 🙏💛⚘️
Mr Eric Burdon one of the most underrated vocalist .... he puts mick to shame !! .. and when WAR and eric came together nobody could touch them ... the time they spent together should be a documentary .. they have that special attachment that blends together !!
Can't believe I'm just discovering this now. These guys were on fire

Eric Burdon 80 ... can't be ... his heart is a teenager ...
Happy Birthday Mr Eric Burdon Master of the Legends of Rock & Blues 🎸🎸🥁🎹🎷
Can't believe i never came across this before,what a collaboration,outstanding .
how the audience was so chill is beyond me because i was so on board that i could not have sat
that still!

Yeah from Brasil
Albert Blevins I was 14 in 1973 when the troops came back home from the Vietnam war. And Eric Burdon had that exact same affect on me. I respect him more than any other musician in this world. I love him so much!
Me too! Eric is still my favorite.

I write poems about the guy!!!!! Such a legend Eric is!!
Rest in peace to BB Dickerson!

This band was on fire and Eric, WOW! Eric was possessed! His voice, his charisma, his movement, his natural talent & raw sex appeal off the scale! What a man, what a soul! 🔥🔥🔥
So true Jo! Eric never tries to be anything, he's just having fun. The essence of cool.
He was great with the animals , but then went on to another level with war , what a combo !.
My dad had this LP of the animals but i never heard Eric with War before. Fuck this guy had an amazing voice and had lots of soul.👍👍👍👍
WAR with ERIC BURDON playing live in the early seventies...can this ever go wrong?
Seriously, this is something EVERYBODY should watch to fully understand the degree music has fallen into these days!
You said it bro, music is in a sad place these days -- Eric Burdon and War c-o-n-n-e-c-t-e-d with soul.
Mats Nilsson this is the shit! right hear! love this kind of music! for real!
I would not last 5 minutes on those bongos playing a rhythm that hard... One Hell of a percussionist!

Damn, listening to this just shows how far musicianship has dropped.
bullshit
@Ronald Williams Agreed to a degree, musicianship has dropped, compare musicians today to jazz musicians of the past.
Except in metal. They still play really well in metal.
@@dizzywilliams3557 There's no bullshit about that ... it is what it is everything out there is pure garbage now... none of these musical artists can light a candle to the artists of yesterday why do you think kids of today are listening to bands from the 70's & 80's you think it's a coincidence that these kids are going back that far to explore real music?
