1 word, Welcome. The ptx rabbit hole is a deep, twisted roller coaster of a journey. Relax, sit back and enjoy the ride there will be no regrets 😉. Their catalogue is extensive and varied with close to 100 songs that would be classified as Christmas songs alone and a few hundred more none holiday themed and that's without counting solo/superfruit/colabs ect. Making Christmas is great. I think you will really enjoy that one. Although everything they do is fantastic. There is also a huge community of Pentaholics that love to take the journey with new fans. And Mary Did You Know is very good.
Thanks for the great reaction to this awesome Pentatonix video. they are incredible. They have hundreds of videos and songs and all of them are amazing. I look forward to more of your reactions to Pentatonix videos and music.
Wlecome to Pentatonix! It's funny this was your first PTX song... it's the only solo Matt has. Definitely looking forward to more, you were fun 😄 Mary Did You Know is definitely one of their more popular Christmas songs. It's worth doubling up. After years of listening to PTX, I still have to remind myself that it is all them. Kevin's beatboxing skills are incredible. But all of them can make instrumental sounds, as you will discover (note their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody where Kevin and Mitch are incredible).
If you want to focus on Christmas music, I highly recommend "Oh Come All Ye Faithful," "Little Drummer Boy" and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy." Also, if you have not heard their "Hallelujah" strap yourself in as it is quite a vocal ride! (Technically it is not what I consider a "Christmas" song but it is on one of their Christmas albums and has over 650 million views). Which ever songs you choose, rest assured. You will not be disappointed.

Pentatonix They won The Sing Off in 2011. They made a guest starring appearance on America′s Got Talent as non−competitors a couple of years after that. The founding members are:- Scott Hoying (tall blond guy, natural baritone but has an impressive five−to−six octave range, can go all the way up to high tenor and down to bass, sings the bass lines when the usual bass singer takes the lead);
Kirstin "Kirstie" (Rhymes with "Thirsty")Maldonado (the only female member, natural mezzo soprano, but can go down to low alto and as high as upper soprano, also can sing in whistle notes that are off the scale); Mitch Grassi (a true contra−tenor, can hit high notes in his chest voice with ease and go WAY higher in his falsetto, also with ease); and Avriel "Avi" Kaplan (dark beard and long hair, true basso profundo, trained as an opera singer, also can go up into the tenor range; Not in this video!! Kevin "KO" Olusola (beatboxer extraordinaire, also is a world−class cellist who plays cello on some of their songs, has a beautiful high tenor voice and gets occasional lead vocal solos as well, graduated pre−med from Yale and speaks several languages including Mandarin Chinese). Kirstie, Scott & Mitch grew up together in Arlington, Texas, and began performing together as children in local youth musical theater. They ended up in high school together and performed in the choir. While there, they formed an a cappella group called The Trio which had several performance videos go viral on UA-cam, most notably a cover of Lady Gaga′s "Telephone". The three of them are best friends and consider themselves to be almost siblings. Scott & Kirstie (who were a class year ahead of Mitch) both graduated high school in 2010 and went their separate ways to different colleges, Scott at USC and Kirstie at Oklahoma. While at USC, Scott joined a USC−based a cappella group called the SoCal VoCals, where he met alumnus Ben Bram, who was now an arranger and vocal coach for the NBC TV show The Sing Off, an a cappella competition show. Ben convinced Scott to get The Trio to audition for the show. The three reunited (Mitch had to skip high school graduation ceremonies to go) in Los Angeles for the audition. They found out that the rules had changed, so they needed at least five members to audition. Ben put them together with Avi (a native of Visalia, California), who he knew from Avi′s performing days at Mount San Antonio College in California. They found Kevin (from Kentucky) through one of his UA-cam videos that had gone viral featuring him playing the cello and beatboxing at the same time, a talent that Kevin coined as "Cello−Boxing". Kevin arrived in Los Angeles literally the day before the audition! Scott came up with the name "Pentatonix" after the pentatonic scale. They performed a re−arrangement of "The Telephone" for the audition and passed, despite having been together as a five−piece group for less that 24 hours! They won The Sing Off that season (all of the performances are available on UA-cam), in which they received a substantial cash prize AND a record contract with Epic Records. They pooled their prize winnings together and all moved to Los Angeles, and all got apartments right next door to each other in the same building. But just a week later, Epic dropped them because the marketing people didn′t think an a cappella group could sell records. Instead of giving up, they were determined and began recording their own songs on UA-cam, hiring Ben Bram as their producer and arranger. These usually consisted of the five of them sitting on a couch and performing cover songs live. Several of the videos went viral, and Sony (the parent company of Epic) decided to give them another chance by placing them on one of their smaller labels, Madison Gate. They released two secular EPs and one Christmas EP on Madison Gate, all of which were strong sellers. But when their cover of a medley of songs by Daft Punk not only went super−viral, but also won them their first Grammy, they were promoted all the way up to RCA Records, Sony′s top label. They began writing and producing their own songs in addition to their covers, began putting out a Christmas album just about annually (which has become their best−selling genre), and have had multi−platinum album sales, sold−out world tours, and have won two additional Grammys. Avi began getting burned out with all of the touring and heavy recording schedule, was suffering from anxiety and personal problems, and learned that his mother had been diagnosed with cancer in 2017. He announced he was departing from the group and taking some time away from the music industry. Matt Sallee (from Baltimore) was brought in as the new bass singer in early 2018. When he attended the audition for the group, he had already mastered the Bass part for most if not all their past catalogue. He was successful and has proved that he fits in well with the group. After a year away from music, Avi has now returned as a phenomenal solo artist in the Folk/Americana/Roots genre. Ben Bram has been in charge of their production, including arranging and directing from the beginning. He is often referred to as the sixth member. Scott and Kevin are major players in the arrangements, but every member contributes. Also, all members are songwriters for both Pentatonix and their own solo work. Ed Boyer who mixes everything of theirs (even the HWB Livestream) is the one who pulled Ben Bram into the sing off in the first place.
There are times when they do use instruments, but not that often. Whenever they use an instrument, though, you will see the instrument in the video. The beatboxer also plays Cello, and he invented Cello Beatboxing 🙂 I really hope that you decide to go down "the Pentatonix Rabbit Hole"....You won't be disappointed! Their catalog is ENDLESS, and they NEVER miss! The current bass singer, Matt Sallee (who sings lead on Grinch), joined the group in 2017, and he replaced the original bass singer, Avi Kaplan. Pentatonix considers themselves as a band. Kevin, the beatboxer, has a drum kit in his mouth. Although 95% a cappella, they will occasionally use instruments. The focus is always on the vocals though. Recommend their version of Bohemian Rhapsody.
Their Christmas music is fire. They also do a lot of covers that the fans call upgrades because they're fire. And they have several original pop albums that are incredible! Thanks for the fun reaction!
"Mary Did You Know" is one of Pentatonix's most popular songs. Other top tracks are "Hallelujah" (there is an original video and a couple of good live versions) and "Little Drummer Boy". But they have 7 Christmas EP / albums and probably around 100 Christmas songs. They also have several albums with covers of pop songs and a couple originals albums. And this is maybe the only group where I can say you can't pick a bad or disappointing song. So pick a Christmas song that you think is boring, see if they have a version and prepare to have your opinion changed. Some of my favorites -- "Carol of the Bells", "Deck the Halls", "The First Noel" and their original "That's Christmas To Me". Subbing in hopes of more Pentatonix.
Another fun Christmas one is the Twelve Days of Christmas. In this song, each member really highlighted. It will help you figure out who is doing what. FYI: The lead on this one, Matt Sallee is the bass singer. Scott Hoying, the blond, is a baritone and he takes the bass line when Matt is doing the lead.
Great reaction! They own Christmas music, but any of their music is fire. Just subbed to hear more PTX. O Come All Ye Faithful. Joyful, Joyful live is great as well. Can’t wait to hear more.💕💕
There are tons of non Christmas songs too. So many to list here!! They do covers and originals too. I recommend checking out the Popspring 2016 concert. They do 4 numbers LIVE. 3 originals and one Michael Jackson Medley. It’s a great way to see how they do live in front of a huge audience of screaming fans.
Check ptxofficial for their over 200 songs. Pick any of them. Quick background - formed in 2011, won the Sing Off. moved to LA, started UA-cam channel, started touring. Won three Grammys, nominated for a 4th this year, multiple gold and platinum albums, awarded star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame 2023. Scott Hoying -tall blond - baritone, fills in for the bass as needed Kevin Olusola - beatboxer, cellist, tenor Mitch Grassi - counter tenor, has been called a-once-in-a-generation voice Kirstin Maldonado - mezzo soprano, very powerful voice Matt Sallee - bass, drums, came on board Christmas tour 2017 Avi Kaplan - basso profundo, left the band in 2017, personal and family health issues.
Matt was the perfect choice to lead this one. But what the other 4 are doing in the background with timing, dynamics, and chord structure is insane. Love, love, love the swing feel-SO GOOD and so much fun.
They do a beautiful rendition of Mary did you know... along with a ton of others... Welcome to the PENTATONIX Rabbit Hole... The Pentaholics will bombard you...
ToneyReactions quick little warning... don't take Pentaholics too seriously... they get a little testy if they don't agree or have differing opinion. I've seen some just being downright nasty or rude... Stay true to yourself... and remember you don't need to give them the satisfaction of playing into their misery... I'll be watching, I don't say much... because everyone else does. Ill give you a "Hey" when I'm watching. Look forward to more videos... 🎄Merry Christmas 🎄
This is just one of many outstanding Christmas songs you can do. Above all, don't miss O Come All Ye Faithful, by far the best version of that carol that has ever been made.
Lol you just stumbled upon the FASTEST way on the planet to grow your UA-cam channel! Pentaholics are incredible! Keep up the Pentatonix reactions and watch your sub counts soar
You react, they will come...fans. Pentatonix has loads of fans from 9 to 97. They have 6 or 7 Christmas albums and 200+ upgrades (we don't call them covers) and original songs. if this one blew you away, you need to react to Daft Punk and Bohemian Rhapsody...I can't wait!!
PTX is nominated for a Grammy for their 2021 released Christmas album, "Evergreen". It would be their 4th if they win. "The Prayer" is on the album so you might want to react to it (your dad might really enjoy it, too) beforehand so when they win (I'm thinking positive) you'll know why. Here's some info. Matt Sallee sang "Mr Grinch and has been with them since 2017. Before that, Avi Kaplan was their bass. He left on good terms & his mother was battling cancer. That is the ONLY change in the group. Kirsty (rhymes with thirsty) & Mitch (the high counter- tenor) change their hair colors & styles quite often, so don't be fooled. Looking forward to more reactions from you. LOVE your smile. Very infectious.
Welcome to the PTX experience/rabbit hole. Keep reacting to them. Your ears will thank you. The first Christmas song me and my wife watched was "Little Drummer Boy". Their version of "Mary Did You Know" is one of the best versions. Do Check it out, it's worth hearing that song again.
Subbed for more Pentatonix. How, they are just that damn good. This isn't even a good example of what they are capable of. I suggest O Come All Ye Faithful next. OH yeah, only PTX a group that does not use instruments can win a Grammy for a song that has no words (Dance of the sugarplum fairy Their second grammy,)
PTX does so many songs that I didn't like by the orginal artist and others who did covers but once I heard their cover I am blown away, their arrangements are magical. What I love is there doesn't seem to be big egos, truly a sum greater than their individual parts
first time watching you, I am a Pentaholic, I would suggest a couple of other songs for Christmas period being 'Mary, Did You Know?' and 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy' which is an instrumental piece (orchestra usually for 'The Nutcracker' Ballet). All PTX songs are NOT covers they are Upgrades so have a look at their version of 'Mary Did You Know' as I can assure you it will be different to what you have already heard
They actually won their second Grammy for the “Dance of the Sugar Fairy”. The 1st being their Daft Punk medley and their 3rd Jolene (with Dolly Parton). They just got nominated for the album ‘EverGreen’.
@@Acadian_Proud all true and pretty awesome!!! hoping they come away with their 4th but Matt's 1st would be amazing!!!, I was just going for something to show more of their 'instrumental' abilities in it, as we all know and Toney now has a small insight into their vocal/singing abilities I wanted to show the other side. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I really think you should react to last year's Grammy Nominated "Over The River" cuz when you realize what Christmas song it is you'll be astonished! It's 🔥!
Lucky for you they have about 8 million Christmas songs, even some that had nothing to do with Christmas until PTX annexed them. I would go with God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (actually a Christmas song) and My Favorite Things (PTX says it's a Christmas song now so it is one periodt)
👀If you want to hear A Christmas Carol that is really changed up, then you have to listen to "O' Come All Ye Faithful". That's another one that you listen to saying what? How? but it was so good. ✌❤😎
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Here’s a starting place if you want Christmas songs, Mary did you Know, Little Drummer Boy, Oh come all ya faithful but if you’re looking for non Christmas try Sound of Silence or Imagine or anything really. They’re just good so any of the their stuff will impress.
Pentatonix owns Christmas (besides Mariah Carey lol) so you can hear their Christmas songs everywhere during the season. I’d check out Oh Come All Ye Faithful or 12 Days of Christmas!
@@ToneyReactions if you mess with the video some (make it more transparent and put a watermark over it) that usually works for reactions! So sorry it got blocked, PTX’s record label is notorious for blocking their videos.
I love that you have discovered PTX with this song. I have subscribed (a devoted Pentaholic) in hopes of watching you, as many others, get lost in the PTX rabbit hole ☺️. Great reaction!
Hi new sub to follow (hopefully) your Pentatonix (PTX) journey. I'll add my suggestion to the many you will receive! 12 days of Christmas, My Favourite Things, Carol of the Bells and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They are incredible and do all this live.
If I hadn't already subscribed to your channel after another reaction I'd watched, I would have immediately subscribed after this one. I love how much you loved this, were confused by it, were in awe of it, were amazed by it, had to remind yourself that the stacking you heard was all THEM and that the instruments were also all vocals... You're one of my favorite reactors now and I can't wait to continue to backtrack through and get caught up on all of your posts. You're the first person I've ever seen react to Grinch, by the way, who knew the words!! This was one of my favorite Christmas movie songs as a kid - I always waited for the old 60s and 70s movies to come on TV (back in the late 70s, and all of the 80s when we had no cable and our TV was one that you still had to turn the channels with a knob) and I especially loved singing along to all of the non-traditional Christmas songs written just for the movies, like "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch." (Rest in peace, Mr. Thurl Ravenscroft, an incredible voiceover artist for Disney who never got credited for originating the vocals and singing the incredible bass on "Grinch.")
@@ToneyReactions I actually JUST found out they were on the current season of TMS! I don't have TV/cable at my house & don't subscribe to any streaming services at the moment, so I am basically living under the world's largest TV rock. I have no clue what's on, who's on what, what's good... but I did know that TMS had a new season on. I hadn't heard about any of the eliminations, though, which is weird because you usually see something on youtube or msn or *something* after someone gets the boot. I just saw a thumbnail of them in fuzzy suits minus whatever heads they were wearing a couple hours ago. Were you as thrown off hearing ACTUAL instruments behind them as I was?
Hi Toney, they are very good. I remember them when they were on the TV singing show called Sing Off and won. They also does some of Michael Jackson songs.
Welcome to a wonderful ride with Pentatonix! I didn't know how many different types of music you wanted on your channel, but they are great! Been a fan from the beginning on Sing Off
You need to watch Queen's original video of Bohemian Rhapsody, then watch Pentatonix's version. Their musical ability is simply amazing. Not only can they sing they make all their music vocally as well. BTW, the metaphor in the PTX version is only a prop. Mitch did the guitar solo with just his voice.
They are doing a Christmas tour right now but the closest concert is too far for me. Pentatonix sing so many different genres; you will have fun looking through all their videos. Thanks. I love that mean Grinch song, as my daughter use to say.
I just subscribed. I love Pentatonix never disappoints. Please react to more Pentatonix. Can't wait for you to react to more. Watch Sugar plum fairy and Carol of the bells. They also do Bohemian Rhapsody, Hallelujah, The Evolution of Michael Jackson and so much more. Enjoy
There's actually a short behind the scenes video for this song too! (Of course featuring Floof, Kirstie's dog and the unofficial PTX mascot) ua-cam.com/video/5gAu0dh5j04/v-deo.html
This was an epic reaction! I’ve never seen anyone discover them with this song!!! So awesome! I would suggest listening to Oh Come all ye faithful.

The beatboxer also plays Cello, and he invented Cello Beatboxing 🙂
I really hope that you decide to go down "the Pentatonix Rabbit Hole"....You won't be disappointed!

Lol I'm excited to dive in
This is darling! Thank you for reacting to it. Happy Holidays my dear!
Definitely will be more!
They are 5 incredibly talented oeople
Frfr
You will LOVE their arrangements. Thank for reacting to more PTX.
So glad you gonna do more. You won't be disappointed if you do Mary Did You Know... WE NEED THAT!! Sir!
Lol uh oh y'all coming full force!!
What a great first-time reaction!
Glad you enjoyed it!
PTX is amazing!! I think better Live - totally shows they don’t use backing tracks or autotune.
Thank you for sharing your time with us. ☮️
Imma get to some of those too!!
@@ToneyReactions they are on tour right now. You can see if they are coming to your area. There's quite a few videos of their stops so far.
Ive enjoyed the ones from the Hollywood live show.
YAAS Thank you Toney. My 79 yr old mother loves PTX❤️✌️
Great reaction! Mary Did You Know by PTX is awesome! ❤PTX
Yes please!!! PTX is amazing 😊
You will like New Rules X Are You That Somebody? They mash up the two songs. Not a Christmas song but it's fire.
Awesome reaction! (And their Mary Did You Know is absolutely beautiful)
Welcome to Pentatonix
Love it ❤️🙌. Thank you for reacting to this AMAZING group of alien unicorns. They have SO many Christmas gems to delight you & us! 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Scott Hoying -tall blond - baritone, fills in for the bass as needed
Kevin Olusola - beatboxer, cellist, tenor
Mitch Grassi - counter tenor, has been called a-once-in-a-generation voice
Kirstin Maldonado - mezzo soprano, very powerful voice
Matt Sallee - bass, drums, came on board Christmas tour 2017
Avi Kaplan - basso profundo, left the band in 2017, personal and family health issues.
Matt was the perfect choice to lead this one. But what the other 4 are doing in the background with timing, dynamics, and chord structure is insane. Love, love, love the swing feel-SO GOOD and so much fun.
'90s Dance Medley - the beatboxing will make you get the "rag" out!
You REALLY REALLY need to listen to their version of Mary Did You Know! It gives me chills every single time!
The best.
They dope!
They do a beautiful rendition of Mary did you know... along with a ton of others... Welcome to the PENTATONIX Rabbit Hole...
The Pentaholics will bombard you...
Lol I can see!!
@@dawnmarieallenkent2495 appreciate that warning! Lol 💪🏽💯
I adore their version of this song!
Lmao appreciate you all!!
If you want Christmas songs, Mary did you know, Carol of the bells are wonderful. If you want to branch out... Daft punk, Hallelujah.
Pentatonix also has a version of Mary Did You Know that is amazing to hear!
Welcome to Pentatonix!!
Your Christmas music selection will never be the same ❤
So true!
"they got more songs?" oh, honey...😂 Welcome to the rabbit hole! You're never getting out. You'll love it!
Love your reactions! Love Pentatonix! ❤️
Welcome to Pentatonix!
Little drummer boy is awesome!
OH yeah, only PTX a group that does not use instruments can win a Grammy for a song that has no words (Dance of the sugarplum fairy Their second grammy,)
its up already!
My recommendations for Christmas would be their renditions of Carol of the bells, or Winter hymnal.
Appreciate the love!! And okay imma check them out
They actually won their second Grammy for the “Dance of the Sugar Fairy”.
It's 🔥!
Dude! Do more! You have only scratched the surface. Your reactions are awesome!!
Listen to Matt sing Kiss From a Rose, and Kevin's 5th, while Kevin is playing a Cello, Singing, Beatboxing, and dancing, while Matt is on the drums.
Welcome to PTX. Original songs “Thank You, Sing, Love Again. Thank you.
Fantastic first reaction to PTX! Subbed to see if you dive down this rabbit hole.
Pentatonix owns Christmas (besides Mariah Carey lol) so you can hear their Christmas songs everywhere during the season. I’d check out Oh Come All Ye Faithful or 12 Days of Christmas!
It's BLOCKED but I swear I was Mitch slapped lmaooooo
@@ToneyReactions if you mess with the video some (make it more transparent and put a watermark over it) that usually works for reactions! So sorry it got blocked, PTX’s record label is notorious for blocking their videos.
I love that you have discovered PTX with this song. I have subscribed (a devoted Pentaholic) in hopes of watching you, as many others, get lost in the PTX rabbit hole ☺️. Great reaction!
They're very unique! I liked that🙂
Next: PTX: Mary, Did You Know?
Yeah my students are definitely gonna listen to this album this week during work time! Lol
Definitely more on the way!!
Lol thank you so much! Did you know it was them on Masked singer!??? I knew right away!!
Here are some options for you to react to… The Sound of Silence, O Come All Ye Faithful, Tge Prayer. Basically anything they do is fabulous!
😂 ik
They're a great group! I will sub if you react to more pentatonix content.
Well you might as well sub right now lol
Subbed for this rabbit hole
Just put up "o come all ye faithful"!
@@ToneyReactions watching it now
Loved your reaction! What a way to start with Pentatonix! Please share some more reactions to them - you'll love it!
I think your next reaction should be "Oh come all ye faithful"
Hi Toney, they are very good. I remember them when they were on the TV singing show called Sing Off and won. They also does some of Michael Jackson songs.
New sub here. It is so funny that this is your introduction to PTX and I loved your reaction. Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole.
Aha! At Star Vista
Daft Punk medley
Can’t Hold Us
Welcome to a wonderful ride with Pentatonix! I didn't know how many different types of music you wanted on your channel, but they are great! Been a fan from the beginning on Sing Off
😂 thank you. New sub for more PTX. Pick anything you will not be disappointed. Check out the Dance of Sugar Plum fairies, got them a Grammy.
Great reaction! Another must-hear Christmas song is Silent Night by The Temptations. You won't regret it!
Lol that's a all the classic!!!
More Pentatonix!
I gotchu!!
Enjoy
Oh Lord you need to do their Mary Did You Know.
They keep saying that lol
There's actually a short behind the scenes video for this song too! (Of course featuring Floof, Kirstie's dog and the unofficial PTX mascot) ua-cam.com/video/5gAu0dh5j04/v-deo.html
