Geoff is double tracked in this song, he sings both the bass line and the lead. Live on stage Eli, J or Layne can step in for bass when needed. Eli voiced the Grinch in this video. The Grinch actor remains unknown, we suspect it is because it was a Grinch actor from Universal, who by contract are not allowed to work as Grinches outside the parks.
Adriana Arellano is all of 16, in this video. If I'm not mistaken, her next video with them was "We're Good" (Which was also Cesar's debut). And I was pleasantly surprised by how much her voiced had matured in the meantime.
Thurl Ravenscroft sang "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966). Geoff Castellucci is a fan of Thurl Ravenscroft; his cover of "Headless Horseman" is an homage to the Thurl Ravenscroft version.
I’m glad you reacted to this, I love when adriana sings with VP, her and Rachel are my favorites. I really enjoy your facial expressions watching them and you trying to hit Geoff’s notes
In my house, Boxing Day is still Christmas. We eat about 50% of the food on Boxing Day, and I’m not talking leftovers. Things that we just finished cooking. We have a lot of food on Boxing Day, and we still sing carols and watch Christmas specials. So you’re good!
99.9% of the time Geoff is double tracked in studio recordings if he has a lead and a bass line at the same time. While Eli, J None, and Layne can all hit bass notes, they only take over in live performances if needed. Both Layne and Geoff have confirmed this.
I love the fun fact that VP to this day refuse to reveal who is playing the Grinch. Eli is doing the voice- over though. And Christmas season can extend until Twelwth Night.
I love Adriana in their cover of We're Good. One of my favorite VP covers and the first appearance of Cesar. Love that arrangement, Of course this is an amazing arrangement as well.
Always enjoy your reactions to Voiceplay, Jen! I didn't pay attention to that spoken line of Geoff's until just the other day (I've seen this a gazeillion times). It sounds like he recorded it separately from when he was singing, and maybe whatever settings (?) he had for the vocals was left out or different. It doesn't matter much, just makes for kind of a "huh?" moment. If you want to keep doing Christmas, try their Noel or Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!
I have no idea what kind of boxing this is about, but in Germany the 26th is just the second day of Christmas (presents are usually on Christmas Eve, though), so you are not too late with this video. Which I am now going to watch
Another lovely reaction/analysis to another great Voiceplay cover. They truly go above and beyond with their covers to make sure they do them justice. On a side note, (I'm not sure if you're aware) the music videos you show tend to crackle a bit during the songs. Especially when they are started/restarted. Your voice through your mic sounds perfect so I'm not sure why it would happen just on the music. Just wanted to say in case you weren't aware. Thanks again and looking forward to future reactions 😁
Comment for the algorithm.. although I am surprised for how many subscribers you have, not that many people seem to comment. Wishing you and yours a wonderful time and a Happy New Year. Thank you for working over this period to keep us entertained. I've really needed the distraction ❤️
If you haven't reacted to Small Town Titans Grinch, I highly recommend it. The lead vocalist is a study of tone and timbre. I think it's okay to keep going with Christmas tunes until New Years
If not aware, the song was taken from a TV cartoon animation special that aired originally on CBS December 18, 1966. Boris Karloff (classic movie vampire) was both the Grinch & the narrator although many attribute the Grinch's voice sounding like Jim Carrey from the 2000 movie. I guess it was the race for Christmas dollars racing first with well-written & produced 'Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer' (NBC December 6, 1964), then Charlie Brown Christmas (CBS December 9, 1965), Grinch 1966 & 'Frosty the Snowman' (CBS December 7, 1969). As one commenter already posted, Thurl Ravenscroft ('Tony The Tiger' Kellogg's Frosted flakes) sang the original bass version "You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch" on the special. It was him singing completely throughout the song singing all the lyrics. It wasn't broken into sections for a group. (Interesting fact, he was accidentally removed from the credits. People thought Boris sang it, finally studio recognized error & corrected it listing him.) During the song, at one point Ravenscroft does speak the words and answers himself. If Geoff had done it in the exact manner, no one else could have been able to answer as it goes down & down, so upped it a little talking in his natural speaking voice.
You do know that there are 12 days of Christmas, don't you? :) She was 15 or 16, when she did Frozeń2 and later this one, We're Good, and Good 4 U. By the way I loved your duet with Peter Barber.
I just watched this one last week for the first time. Voiceplay never disappoints. 😁 In my house/car Christmas music/decor starts November 1 and goes through January 1! Definitely still good for Christmas through the end of the year. ❤️ Flipping tables, huh? Interesting. I have a couple of ideas…. Are we supposed to guess what New Year reaction you chose? 😉 This was fun!
I like Voctave's and Small Titans versions better. The former because of the awesome showcasing of their basses, which really don't get any love on their usual stuff, and the latter because it's an awesome rock version of this song.
Hope you had a happy Christmas, Jennifer. Always a pleasure to watch your analyses, and it's icing on the cake when you're reacting to VoicePlay. If you haven't yet had the pleasure, may I suggest you have a listen to a cover of this song by Small Town Titans. It is a rather unique approach to this childhood classic. The lead singer is a vocal coach and I have no doubt his performance will provide plenty of fodder for you to react to should you ever decide to review it in the future. Wishing you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2023!
Merry belated Christmas Jen!🎄 I hope that you had a good weekend spending time with your family. Thanks for the amazing reaction as always, I always love your reaction and analysis videos❤
I think that the Gtonch is one of the character performers from Universal Studios Florida. I can not swear to it, but I di know they have connections to Universal. (Any performors here in Orlando have friends that can give them names of who to talk to. Plus they probably had to get permissions for the character use.) I am saying this because the costume and make=up is so perfecrly matching the character in the park.
As always, a delightful performance! Geoff sounds like Boris Karloff in the early animated version! Great arrangement and great analysis!! Happy New Year, Jen!!
Geoff is double tracked on the bass line during his solos in this song. You'll occasionally hear Layne/J.None/Eli sing a bass part in a VoicePlay song, but for the most part they just double track Geoff.
In the original 1966 animated special this song was sung by Boris Karloff (known for being the 1934 Frankenstein's Monster) who had a lot of fun with it too.
To be honest the only singer in this video I have heard is Geoff. Such a neat arrangement. This is a fun song. BTW, You are a truly beautiful young lady. I only recently stumbled across your channel reviewing David Phelps. I'll be watching more. Have a nice new year, Ron
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! 🎄🎉🥳🥂 I'm glad you did this one! It's my favorite of their Christmas songs. It's just so, so much fun. If you haven't seen "We're Good" from VP with Adriana yet, I'd definitely suggest checking it out. It doesn't have very many views which is a shame because it's a good one. Also, I really wanna know the story behind your table flip! 😂😂
Hi, friends, it's nice to be able to attend your activity, it's really cool and very entertaining. Thank you for sharing the fun video reaction. Keep The Spirit always successful for you.
Jennifer! Cute little headband hat thing! Very festive! Well this is an interesting cover. Quite different from the original version. Very playful throughout though. I found myself getting caught up in what was going on in the video itself and then having to be brought back to the music by professor Jennifer. 😁 You did get in a little low note practice didn't you though? Wait, you flipped a table? Yes why would you flip a table? 🤔 Or maybe it was accidental ... you do have occasional accidents with bumping the microphone and camera. 😅 Amazing reaction and analysis as always Jennifer. 😊
Do you know of Lucy Thomas from Great Britain?? YOU NEED TO!!! 17 or so and a voice from heaven. Hope you will check on her. You won't be disappointed!!!
Another fun and informative reaction! One thing as a 'constructive feedback' comment... I get a lot of static and dropout from your feedthrough (if that's what it's called). YOU sound fine. It's only the music you are reacting to that does this. It's a very consistent thing with your reactions (regardless of who you are playing). Anywayzzz... I really like how you called out the section where they go into that 'half beat' and the triplets with Geoff jumping all over! Later you used the word 'groovy.' Such an old term, but it applies PERFECTLY here! They definitely have that groove thing going! Great stuff! Thank you!
Thank you for the reply! I listen to you a lot! One of these days, MAYBE you’ll give up trying to match Geoff! 🤣. Just kidding… it’s very endearing… sort of a ‘trademark.’
I notice that the reactions from you are spot on, But I would love to hit you with just a few what I call great vocals plus good songs from different kinds of music and different years. First let's start with a kind of music that falls in the Folk Country and the artist is John Denver, the so g is Rocky Mountain High. Then let dive into a deep Country singer Calle Collin Raye and the song is : Love Me. Now for the POP side the artist is ABBA and the song is : Winner Takes It All. And just for fun let's do Boston and the song is : More Than A Feeling. Finally let's check your diversity with the Carpenters and the song : We've Only Just Begun. Oh I have an ear for music so let's see if my ears are as good as I believe. Note, I'm 64 years old and have a very wide range of music I like so I can give you so much you will get lost in the music.

She and Cesar also interact well together, both vocally and presence.
This was absolutely great to listen to. There's a part you might find really good
Well, for my 2 cents' worth, the 12 days of Christmas start on Christmas Day and go until Jan 5th. You can do Christmas until Epiphany with impunity!
So happy we got a double treat of you and Peter doing an analysis of this song this month. Loved your song together, too!

Fun fact: Eli voices the Grinch. I think it really shows his talent for character voices.
I love the fun fact that VP to this day refuse to reveal who is playing the Grinch. Eli is doing the voice- over though. And Christmas season can extend until Twelwth Night.
T. hey did this so well!! So much fun and I loved Geoff's arrangement. Great reaction again Jen
I love Adriana in their cover of We're Good. One of my favorite VP covers and the first appearance of Cesar. Love that arrangement, Of course this is an amazing arrangement as well.
Yes, Rob Dietz did the arrangement in We're Good video.
Love the reaction. She's also in We're Good
Christmas is just getting started, so of course you can do this song. Today is day 2, 10 more to go!
Love the reaction, glad seeing this before 1 hour mark
Shes getting closer to finding that subharmonic sound you can hear it
My favorite Grinch version!
Mine too!

Thanks so much!!

HIT that "bass" Jen. You got this. 😉

I've noticed this as well. Background process stealing cycles during recording or transcoding?
I know… sometimes it’s ok but sometimes my laptop plays up? I’m hoping it doesn’t happen all the time!
I always look forward to Jen singing bass 😄
Definitely sounds like Geoff used a high-pass filter for his little spoken part.
Comment for the algorithm.. although I am surprised for how many subscribers you have, not that many people seem to comment. Wishing you and yours a wonderful time and a Happy New Year. Thank you for working over this period to keep us entertained. I've really needed the distraction ❤️
Oh thank you❤️
Love to hear you talk about the part when Geoff goes up, it is one of my favorite parts of this song from Voiceplay.
Ms. Jenn. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I appreciate you for what you're doing.
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
Eli does bass when Geoff leads.
despite having heard this countless times you still managed to make me notice things ive never heard before
The 12 Days of Christmas starts on the 25th and runs through Jan 5th, so you're good.
If you haven't reacted to Small Town Titans Grinch, I highly recommend it. The lead vocalist is a study of tone and timbre. I think it's okay to keep going with Christmas tunes until New Years
I can't Second this strongly enough, you won't be sorry.
Can we just acknowledge Jen's new found ability to hit the low notes🤔
👏👏👏👏👏Bravo👏👏👏👏👏
😎😎😎making a basement dweller out of her yet😎😎😎
🙌🏼😂
They never would say who played the Grinch. Believe me, they were asked. 😊
Best of the holidays to you!
Enjoy your holiday Jen.

Yess two of my favorite reactors uploading their reactions to one of my favorite VP videos within 2 days?! Amazing Christmas 😁 Happy holidays!
Ah thank you! 😁
Always love your analysis! Watching you enjoy the videos is enjoyable. Your bubbly personality shines through.

The base that you hear when Jeff costellucci is singing the lead is Jeff it's just overlapped in post-production
Thanks!
I just watched this one last week for the first time. Voiceplay never disappoints. 😁

Geoff has said Eli can and has done some bass lines.
Merry belated Christmas Jen!🎄 I hope that you had a good weekend spending time with your family. Thanks for the amazing reaction as always, I always love your reaction and analysis videos❤
Merry Belated ChristmasJenn, love the reaction and analysis as always!!

12:54 I see you. you hit that!
Twelve days of Christmas lasts until Jan 6, so you're completely good!
FWIW, there is a band called Small Town Titans that does an amazing cover of this song. Even if you don't react to it, it's worth a listen!
Always love your reactions, Jen!!! Merry (belated.. lol) Christmas!!

😂😂 sorry hahah!
Do you know of Lucy Thomas from Great Britain?? YOU NEED TO!!! 17 or so and a voice from heaven. Hope you will check on her. You won't be disappointed!!!

react to Gabriel Henrique singing Oh Holy Night, please!!!!!
can you analyze the song We are from One Ok Rock live performance
Please react to 'Poor Wayfaring Stranger - Epic Version Feat. Chris Rupp' by Simon Korolskiy. It is really amazing.
